Excell Moore, Jr. - July 18, 1932 - April 08, 2022

Departed: 04/08/2022 (East Chicago)
Obituary Preview: Excell Moore, Jr.  was born July 18, 1932, in Pickens Mississippi. He was the fourth of the four brothers born to the late Excell Sr. and Katie Moore.
Excell was educated in the Pickens Public School System. As a youngster he and his brothers were taught how to appreciate their land with farming and gardening skills. One of his favorite pastimes was being an avid gardener.  Excell loved to grow many different vegetables and would share his crops with family and friends across the region.  He also loved maintaining his lawn, shooting pool, telling jokes, and most of all hunting. Excell won many trophies and awards for his beagles and hunting skills of small game throughout the years.
In 1966, Excell moved from Mississippi to East Chicago, Indiana, where he was employed as an operator in the Brick Mason Department at Youngstown Sheet and Tube Company where he later retired after 30 years of service.
Recently, in the presence of witnesses, Excell confessed and accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as his Savior.  “If thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.  For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.”   Romans 10:9,10.
On Friday, April 8th at 5:56 pm, surrounded by his family, God saw that Excell’s life down here was troubling and only he could feel the pain.  So, He sent His Angel down to whisper in his ear and said, “you don’t have to be afraid anymore, your work down here on earth is done.  Your flight number has been called, and your seat awaits, don’t worry about leaving your family and friends behind, your precious memories will linger on.”  Excell answered the call and his soul departed on a one-way flight to Heaven from Hospice of the Calumet Region located in Munster, Indiana. “To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord.” 2nd Corinthians 5:8.
Excell leaves to cherish his love and memories to his devoted son Keith (Owana) Miller of Hammond, IN; Daughter-in-Law Jennie Harris, of Pickens, MS; One brother Lee Earl Moore of Jackson, MS; One Sister-in-law Eleanor Moore of East Chicago; five (5) Grandchildren Jenifer( Otis) Davis, Sheila (Jeremiah) Jones of Madison, MS; Gwendolyn (Rodney) Howard of Pickens MS; Keiona (Sean) Conway and Keaira Miller of Hammond, IN; nine (9) Great-grandchildren Javarrius Harris, Rodrevious Harris, Asjah Harris, Gavin Howard, Jordan Jones, Layla Howard, Ayiona Miller, Deandre Hackett Jr., and Alana Conway; two (2) Great-Great Grandchildren Kelsie Harris and Kenslei Howard; Special and Devoted Friends Clara Heard, Ulysses Simmons and Arthur Kendricks all of East Chicago, IN; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents Excell Sr. and Katie Moore, his brothers, Enzie Moore, Lewis Moore, and son John Earl Harris.
Excell will be greatly missed by all those who loved, respected, and adored him.

Margie Green - August 28, 1936 - January 31, 2022

Departed: 01/31/2022 (East Chicago)
Obituary Preview: Margie Green was born August 28, 1926, to her parents Jake Logan and Maggie Waddington in Winona, MS. Margie was the third of three children. She had one sister Annie Lee and one brother, Manuel. She attended schools in Winona, Mississippi.
Growing up Margie loved the outdoors.  Her brother Manuel and she used to play on the banks of the Mississippi.  Manuel and Margie went everywhere together. She brought along with her, her favorite pet, a pig named Nunee.  At a young age Margie learned the value of hard work.  She was a “find-a-way-to-do it” kind of person.  Bereaved of her mother at a young age, she assumed many of the homemaking responsibilities. However, she had to do so without the benefit of having been taught those skills.  So, she taught herself and often in quite ingenious ways.
Many people have been blessed by the skills she developed as a young woman helping out around the home.  She used those skills to minister to her family, neighbors, and church members, always with humility and meekness. Margie served faithfully in the ministry.  She was a hard worker who served at Zion Baptist Church.  She sang in the choir, greeted guest, and served faithfully as a mother of the church.  As her health declined, she was unable to continue most of her activities, however, she loved her church family and made mention of them quite often.
She married the late Willie H Green, on December 19, 1973, in East Chicago, Indiana.  As a selfless wife, she poured her energies into meeting the needs of her family and made many sacrifices to ensure the success of those she loved.  Margie worked for years as a housekeeper and dispatcher.  Hard work was all that she knew.  Margie was an active member of the eastern stars, along with her late husband Willie Green. They enjoyed traveling the country attending different events on behalf of the eastern stars.  Other leisure interest included traveling to baseball games and she loved watching Wrestling, both live and on television.
God ushered Margie into eternity on Monday, January 31, 2022.  She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Willie Green. Margie is survived by: her niece, Marguerite Thomas, her great nephews, Wali Thomas (Waleeda), her grandnephews, Ethan Thomas, Michael Jackson, and Josiah Thomas, friends, Celestine Hodges, and Steve Tolbert, the Zion Baptist Church family, and several brothers and sisters in Christ.
We look forward to the reuniting with her when Christ calls us home.

Ernest Watson, Jr. - November 05, 1959 - January 28, 2022

Departed: 01/28/2022 (East Chicago)
Obituary Preview: Ernest Watson Jr. affectionately known by his family and friends as “Ernie” was born in Gary, Indiana on November 5, 1959, to Ernest Sr. and Mary Watson. He was the youngest of four siblings.
Ernie loved the Lord and accepted Him as his Savior at an early age and was baptized at Galilee Missionary Baptist Church, Gary, IN by the late Rev. T.P. Johnson.
Ernie was a graduate of Gary, Indiana’s Horace Mann High School class of 1977. Following high school, he enlisted in the United States Navy and attended boot camp in Kingsville, Texas. There he met and wed Maria Tucker in 1985 and to this union two beautiful children were born: Allessandra and Ernest III, known to many as “Bubba”. One of Ernie’s biggest accomplishments was being a father. Anyone who knew him could attest to the immense pride he had in his children and the relationship they shared.
Petty Officer First Class Ernest Watson Jr., favorably nicknamed “EW”, was known as a leader and someone who afforded many of his shipmates a “home away from home”. He was notorious for telling the truth, whether you liked it or not, and steered many sailors back on the right track with his candor. His tours of duty included Misawa and Yokosuka Japan, and San Diego, California.  Petty Officer Watson completed his military obligation after 17 years, 3 years short of a 20-year retirement to become a full-time dad to his two young children.
Recognizing the need to be closer to family, Ernie relocated from San Diego, California back to his hometown of Gary, Indiana in 1999. With the help of his stepmother Dorothy Watson, he successfully raised Allessandra and Bubba while making a transition from a military to civilian lifestyle. While back at home he was a valued staff member at Mac Steel for 10 years and Gordon Brothers Steel for 9 years, respectively.
In 2001, Ernie became a member of Zion Missionary Baptist Church, East Chicago, IN under the leadership of Rev. Dr. J.C. Wade, Jr, Pastor/Emeritus and Pastor Charles L. Thompson Jr. It was there his relationship with the Lord blossomed. He faithfully attended 7:30am morning worship services and was a member of the Men’s Sunday School class. His love and compassion for young people led him to devote his time and talent to the Teen Ministry and serve as a Youth Sunday School teacher. He also volunteered his time providing security during the women’s ministry conferences.
His dedication to the church and love for Pastor Thompson was evident as he never hesitated to lend a helping hand whenever called upon. He was a faithful and cheerful giver and greeted everyone with a playful smile.
In 2012, Ernie met the love of his life, his fiancée Glenda Henderson Tucker. They spent precious years making memories while worshipping together, traveling with family and friends, or simply enjoying each other’s company. The two were engaged to be married in the fall of 2022.
Ernest “Ernie” Watson. Jr left in his wake an indelible legacy of love, humor and compassion. He was an encourager of people and a fierce protector of those who he loved. In his leisure, he was a budding fisherman, avid lover of all sports and music, and master bowler touting two 300-point games under his belt. He will be sorely missed by those who knew and loved him. We love him, but God loved him best.
Ernie made the transition to his heavenly home on Friday January 28, 2022 at Gary Northlake Methodist Hospital. He is preceded in death by his parents, Ernest Sr. and Mary Watson, sister Marie Watson and brother Rickie Watson, Sr.
He leaves to cherish his memories his daughter Allessandra (Ashley) Rhodes of Okinawa, Japan, son Ernest Watson III, East Chicago, IN, (step)mother Dorothy Watson, Indianapolis, IN. Fiancée, Glenda Tucker, East Chicago, IN, two grandchildren Castiel Watson and Blythe Rhodes. Siblings Connie Robinson, Forest City, AR, Damond (Leola) Watson Sr., Cordova, TN, Ernest Jerome Watson, Indianapolis, IN, L’Tanya (Anton) Hall, Snellville, GA, Johnnie Johnson, Indianapolis, IN.   Eight nieces; Shekela D., Michaela, Jenna, Raina, Brooke, Chelsea, Riley, Autumn. Eight nephews; Demond T., James L, Rickie Jr, Damond Jr., Corban, Trevor, Piercen, and Ivan. Ride or Die friends Mallory Webb, Reginald McBride and Regena (Winke) Gains. The 17th and Grant St. shop friends and Olympia Lanes Bowling family. Godmother’s Arlessie McNeil and Erma Monroe. Mentors turned friend, Jerry Davis and Clifton Gooden and a host of cousins, relatives, and dear friends.
