She attended grade school in French Lake and graduated from Annandale High School with the Class of 1956. On June 29, 1957, she was united in marriage to Donald Anderson. They lived in St. Louis Park before moving to Annandale in 1971. In addition to caring for the home, LaVerna also cleaned for a number of home and business owners in the area. She enjoyed cooking, baking, gardening, sewing, going to church, watching Wheel of Fortune, playing pull tabs, and enjoying an ice cold Busch Light. She loved being with her family and friends and many of the things she did was to bring others to fellowship at her table. She cherished her grandchildren above all else in this world.She is survived by her sons, Steve of French Lake and Tom (Jackie) of Annandale; grandchildren, Nichole Anderson, Brandon Anderson, Morgan Nicka, and Alyssa Anderson; and great-grandchildren, Ava Nicka, Tritt Jones, Cameron Anderson, and Aubrey Anderson. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Laura Opsahl; and husband, Donald Anderson.The casket bearers will be Jeff Nicka, John, Jim and Joe Kalthoff, Skip Nolan, and Brandon Anderson. Memorials are preferred to St. John's Lutheran Cemetery, Annandale.Harlan Edward Meyer was born January 24, 1933 in Hamburg, Minnesota to August and Lenora (Klanke) Meyer. He grew up in Hamburg. In order to help support the family, he worked the farm at a young age after his father died. At the age of 17, he enlisted with the U.S. Navy, serving in the Korean War. On November 16, 1957, Mike was united in marriage to Arlene Ann Bandemer. They lived in Minneapolis and Bloomington before moving to Cedar Lake near Maple Lake in 1973 and to Albion Township in 1980. He worked as a tool and die maker for Dana Corp. in Plymouth for 22 years. Harlan was a member of the Maple Lake American Legion Post 131 and St. John's Lutheran Church in Annandale. He enjoyed old time music, fishing, gardening, snowmobiling, traveling to Vegas, and socializing with his neighbors and Legion buddies. He had a love for his faith, church and family; especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren.He is survived by his four children, Machelle Borell of Montrose, Mark Sr. (Sue) Meyer of Clearwater, Melissa Varner of Buffalo, and Marsha (Samuel) Rassat of Rogers; seven grandchildren, Kristin, John, Bradley, Mark, Jr., Jason, Zackary, and Taylor; six great-grandchildren, June, Clara, Devin, Hailey, Sophie, and Henry; and many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, August and Lenora Meyer; wife, Arlene Meyer; grandson, Nathaniel Davids; brothers, August and Venes Meyer; and sisters, Violet Meyer, Deloris Ahline, Arlene Howe, Eunice Johnson, and Jenola Panning.The casket bearers will be Jason Klinzman, Taylor and Zackary Varner, Mark Meyer, Jr., John, Randy and Kristin Borell, and Samuel Rassat. Stueness, age 73, of San Tan Valley, Arizona, formerly of Pelican Rapids, Minnesota died Wednesday, April 13, 2022 at his home under the care of hospice.Funeral Services will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday, April 25, 2022 at Zion Lutheran Church, Pelican Rapids with Rev. Salim Kaderbhai officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery with military honors provided by the West Central Minnesota Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 235, Alexandria Minnesota and the United States Navy. Visitation will be held from 4:00-6:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 24th, 2022 and one hour prior to the service on Monday, both at the church. Memorials are preferred to Grounded No More Veteran Flight Lift.Vance Allan Stueness was born August 12, 1948, in Ada, Minnesota, the eldest of 5 children of Bennie and Veronica (Berray) Stueness. Vance grew up on the family farm in rural Twin Valley, where his love of agriculture began. He attended school in Twin Valley, graduating with the Class of 1966. Following his graduation, Vance enlisted in the United States Navy in September of 1966. He served on the east and west coasts, before being sent to Vietnam in 1970 as part of a search and rescue team. In December of 1970, Vance was honorably discharged from the Navy. He returned home to Twin Valley and worked for the Twin Valley-Ulen Telephone Company. During this time, he also attended Moorhead Technical College for agricultural sales and management. While taking classes he was offered a job at the Kragnes Farmers Elevator Co. in Sabin. Vance worked there prior to beginning his extensive career with Chipman, now known as Syngenta. He started in sales and worked his way to upper management, overseeing 15 states. Vance spent the last two years of his career starting the seed treatment division for West Central Inc. in Willmar. Around 2008, he officially retired. On June 29, 1985, Vance was united in marriage to the love of his life, LeAnn (nee Chandler) Barron, at Grace Lutheran Church in Fargo, North Dakota. They made their home on Pelican Lake, near Pelican Rapids for approximately 30 years. The draw of playing golf year-round and not having to deal with Minnesota winters appealed to Vance and Lea; in 2008, they permanently moved to San Tan Valley, Arizona. They return to Minnesota during the summer months to enjoy their fifth wheel at the Forest Hills Golf & RV Center near Detroit Lakes, Minnesota.As a proud veteran, Vance was a member the Joe Foss American Legion Post #97 in San Tan Valley, West Central Minnesota Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 235 in Alexandria, and former member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #5252 in Pelican Rapids. In addition to his love of golf, Vance also enjoyed boating, traveling, jeeping, and participating in events with his veteran brothers and sisters. Always gracious hosts, Vance and LeAnn often entertained family and friends at their lake home in Pelican Rapids and in later years, they welcomed visitors in Arizona. On February 27, 1953, she was united in marriage to LeRoy "Corky" DeBlois in Waite Park. They made their home in the Fairhaven area, where they raised their six children. Prior to working for the Kimball School in the special education department for 17 years, Erna worked for Aetna in Minneapolis. In 1972, Erna switched careers and worked for Bernatello's in Maple Lake. She was a foster grandma for Annandale Elementary for over 25 years, retiring in 2018. As an educator, children always had a special place in Erna's heart. Erna was a member of Concordia Lutheran Church. She enjoyed embroidery work and spending time with her family.She is survived by her children, Barry of Fairhaven, Laurie (Charlie) Kersten of Fairhaven, Tina Tobin of Annandale, Wendy (Alan) Van Vleet of Annandale, Doug (Stephanie) of Arlington, and Kim (Rodney) Simons of Annandale; 12 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; a great-great grandaughter; and many nieces, nephews, other family members and friends. In the early 1990’s Lynda moved to Annandale with her husband, Gary, where they have made their home since.  In 2001, Lynda re-opened the day care center, The Learning Tree, that her husband Gary helped her maintain over the years until she was diagnosed with a brain tumor, which left her 75% blind. She attended Vision Loss Resource Center in Minneapolis where she was able to relearn daily functions, and continue life not being able to see. She won a state award for a paper she wrote and became a peer mentor to other people who are also visually impaired. Lynda was a strong beautiful woman, she always found light even on the darkest days. She remained positive and brought joy and humor to everyone who was lucky enough to cross her path.She is survived by her husband, Gary of Annandale; daughters, Kamryn of Annandale, and Jaime of Boston; sons, Nykolas of Annandale, and Derek (Malia) of Boston; 7 grandchildren, Devin, Tatianna, Inara, Daquan, Adam, Jaden, and Jenayah; 3 great-grandchildren; brothers, Richard Taylor of New Hampshire, and Larry (Bobby) Taylor of Boston; and other family members and friends. Judith Mary Benoit was born October 2, 1951, in St. Cloud, Minnesota the eldest of 13 children, to Walter and Laura (Paul) Benoit. Judy grew up in Sauk Rapids, where she graduated from K.L. Halvorson High School in 1969. She then obtained her associate's degree from St. Cloud State University. On August 16, 1975, Judy was united in marriage to Theodore Weber at St. Theresa of the Pines in Nederland, Colorado. They made their home in Colorado for 17 years, before moving to Darwin, Minnesota in 1988. After a short time, they settled at their current home in French Lake Township. Judy worked as a claim specialist for State Farm Insurance; she proudly retired from State Farm after over 40 years of service. Judy was a member of St. Ignatius Catholic Church, where she was also a confirmation teacher for many years. Judy also gave much of her time as a volunteer at Quiet Oaks Hospice House. She enjoyed gardening, traveling, gathering with family, and spoiling her grandchildren. Morford, age 75, of Eden Prairie, died Friday, March 4, 2022, at Good Samaritan Society in Inver Grove Heights after a 2-year battle with cancer.Allen was born October 21, 1946, in Hazen, ND to Robert and Pandora (Lang) Morford. He grew up in Bismarck, ND, until the family moved to St. Cloud where he graduated with the Class of 1964 from St. Cloud Tech. Allen served in the army on the front lines in the Vietnam War. While on leave, he was united in marriage to Jeanne Gay at St. Victoria Catholic Church in Victoria, MN. After his honorable discharge at the rank of Captain, Allen earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Minnesota. He worked for Dean Witter as an investment broker until 1987, when he started his own investment firm, Investors First. He retired in 2017. Norah owned her own hair salon for a number of years, before deciding to operate a day care out of her home to allow her to spend more time as a mom. She went back to school to obtain her RN degree, and worked for the St. Cloud Hospital, REM Home Health, and Guardian Angels Hospice. On August 24, 1990, Norah was united in marriage to Paul Poepping in Buffalo. Together, they made their home in Annandale. Norah loved to be outdoors camping, gardening, or simply sitting around a fire. She also enjoyed cooking and getting lost in a good book. Obituary Preview: Bernice M. Thurber, age 94, of South Haven, died Sunday, February 27, 2022, at the Annandale Care Center. Funeral Services will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, March 4, 2022, at Lake Union Covenant Church with Pastor Tyler Menssen officiating. Burial will follow at Lake Union Covenant Cemetery. Visitation will begin one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday. Bernice Mae Maurer was born March 12, 1927, in Parshall, North Dakota to Edward and Alma (Knute) Maurer. At the age of 6, Bernice moved with her family to Craig, Missouri before moving to South Haven at the age of 13. She graduated from Annandale High School in 1945. Bernice then attended St. Cloud Beauty College. In 1948, she was united in marriage to Conrad Hendricks in Minneapolis. Conrad served in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Colorado. To this union, one daughter, Connie, was born. Conrad preceded Bernice in death as a result of the Korean War. Bernice and Connie moved back to Minnesota, where she worked at Honeywell. On April 19, 1954, Bernice was united in marriage to Marrell Thurber in Sioux City, Iowa. They built a home on the shores of Lake Union, and were blessed with 6 more children. Bernice owned and operated Bee's Beauty Shop from her home. Bernice was an active member of Lake Union Covenant Church, where she participated in bible studies and ladies aid. She was also a member of the South Haven VFW Auxiliary. In their retirement years, Bernice and Marrell enjoyed driving their motor home to Texas, where they enjoyed the warmth for over 20 years. They also went on many fishing trips, with salmon fishing on Lake Michigan being her favorite. Bernice was a gifted painter, with many of her family members having one of her works of art. She was also known to be an excellent Krumkake baker. Bernice's sense of humor, sarcasm, and her willingness to lovingly give those around her a hard time will fondly be remembered. Bernice is suvived by her children, Connie (Frank) Porcaro of Tahoe, California, Wanda (Jim) Kuseske of St. Cloud, Pam Engen (Dale Larson) of Belgrade, James (Janet) Thurber of Annandale, Bob (Colleen) Thurber of South Haven, and Don (Bonnie) Thurber of Kimball; 16 grandchildren; 21 and counting great-grandchildren; siblings, Lawrence (Darlene) Maurer of Litchfield and Wilma Hilary of Crystal; and her nieces, nephews, other family members and friends. Catherine Anna Rogers was born May 1, 1938, in Monticello Township, Minnesota to Harry and Irene (Rezineck) Rogers. Cathy loved drinking coffee and visiting with friends. She enjoyed playing yahtzee, cards, reading, crocheting, and fishing. She lived in Delano and Annandale, eventually moving to French Lake with her brother, Frank. As her health declined, she entered the Cokato Manor. Survivors include her children, JoAnn (Carol) Ware and Rick Ware; grandchildren; brother, Frank (Jan) Rogers; sister-in-law, Sylvia Rogers; and many nieces, nephews, other family members, and friends. She was known as the "frog lady" at the Minnesota State Fair. On October 17, 2021, she was united in marriage to her long-time partner in life, John Sinclair. Mary Jo enjoyed creating art, gardening, canning, cooking, and being in the great outdoors. She was especially known for her canned pickles. She had a special talent to bring her family together with her home cooked meals. On July 15, 1950, Vi was united in marriage to David Winters. They continued to make their home in Rochester while Vi worked as a secretary for the Director of Elementary Education. They then moved to Golden Valley, where they were blessed with four daughters. They relocated for a short time to Columbus, Ohio, prior to moving to the home they designed and built on Clearwater Lake, near Annandale, in 1972. David preceded Vi in death in 1985.For 22 years, Vi worked as a secretary for the Annandale High School, retiring in 1992. During this time, she also worked as the clerk for Corinna Township for 24 years, retiring from those duties in 2009. She volunteered as the secretary of the Clearwater Lake Property Owner's Association for 20 years. On May 18, 1991, Vi married Leland Novotne in Annandale. They continued to make their home on Clearwater Lake. Leland preceded Vi in death in 2015.Vi moved to Anthem, Arizona in 2018 in order to be closer to some of her family. Vi enjoyed gardening, tending to her flowers, stamp collecting, and fishing, especially at Reed Lake in Manitoba, Canada. After retiring, Vi was able to travel across the United States, including to the Black Hills, Alaska, Mexico, and Hawaii. He worked at Nilfisk-Advance in Brooklyn Park, Minnesota as an engineer for 39 years, and also worked at C4 Welding as a design engineer in Sauk Rapids for 3 years. Norm enjoyed fishing, camping, riding his motorcycle, gardening, working on projects in his shed, and working on his 3-D printer in his spare time. Ken was owner & broker of his own real estate company, Village Properties, Inc in Annandale, MN for almost 50 years.Ken enjoyed traveling, exploring the terrains wherever he went, snowmobiling in the winters, trail leading for a snowmobile club, motorcycling, boating, and maintaining his resort. Most of all, Ken enjoyed fixing anything & everything; he was known for this by family and friends, and was often called upon by neighbors in the community during his winters in Texas. Ken always took the time and patience to explain in detail how to fix or learn something, in many areas from mechanics to waterskiing!
