Eugene "Gene" Joseph Pelletier - November 05, 1926 - September 11, 2023

Departed: 09/11/2023 (Old Forge)
Obituary Preview: Eugene (“Gene”) Joseph Pelletier Old Forge, NY
Eugene (“Gene”) Joseph Pelletier, 96, of Liverpool, NY and formerly of Ormond Beach, FL and Old Forge, NY passed away at Iroquois Nursing Home on September 11, 2023.
Eugene was born in Utica, NY to Elias and Roccatella (Cavallo) Pellettieri. Yes, the spelling of his last name is different! The story is that when Gene entered the Navy, his name was entered incorrectly and he just kept it that way. He married Evelyn Conliffe on June 18, 1949 at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Utica, NY.
As a Seaman 1st Class Radar Striker in the US Navy, he served from 1944-1946 primarily aboard the USS Rutland (APA 192) in the Pacific Theater. As he was not of age to enter the Navy, he had to get his father’s permission to enter and also was not able to complete high school. He did receive an honorary degree from Liverpool High School, some 70 years later, in recognition of his service.
Gene retired from GTE/Verizon where he was a telephone repairman for many years. He installed many telephones in Old Forge and the surrounding areas, and repaired many downed lines during numerous storms (most times having to get to these jobs via snowmobile or boat). He served as Town Justice for the Town of Webb during the 1960’s. Eugene was active in the Old Forge Fire Department (being one of the “original” BINGO callers!), the Covey Pashley American Legion Post 893 (cooking many pots of clam chowder!), and the Knights of Columbus. He also was one of the Polar Bears at the Winter Carnivals as he was, supposedly, the only one who could fit into the costume. Hosting Sunday pool parties was a common event along with the annual softball tournaments where his brother Vinnie would bring teams down from Saranac and Tupper Lake for a weekend takeover.
He is survived by his daughters Paula (Thomas) Masuicca of Lorton, VA, Patricia (John) Duffy of Liverpool, NY, four grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and friends from New York and Florida and all places in between during his 96 years. He was predeceased by his wife Evelyn (Peggy), son Peter and Brothers Vincent and Richard.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, September 15, 2023, 11 am, at St. Bartholomew’s Church, Old Forge, NY. There are no public calling hours. The family will receive visitors at the conclusion of the Funeral Mass. Burial with military honors will follow at Riverview Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Old Forge Fire Department, PO Box 1170, Old Forge, NY 13420 or Honor Flight Syracuse: https://honorflightsyracuse.org/donate-online/ For online expressions of sympathy please go to www.dimblebyfh.com

Paul was a graduate of Camden High School and furthered his education at Syracuse University studying music. On September 21, 1996, he was united in marriage to Julie M. Helmes and shared a blessed union of 26 years, filled with much love and devotion. Paul was a very well-known self-employed musician, playing locally and all the way down to Florida.
In his free time, Paul loved to go fly fishing, wherever the fish were biting. Music was his life and his proudest achievements were winning 2 Sammy Awards. In 2017 he won the Hall of Fame Award and in 2023 he won the Sammy for Best Singer Songwriter Recording. Paul made countless friends over the years. Paul has left a legacy to not hundreds, but thousands of people that not only love his music, but also loved the man. You didn’t have to be a musician to be close to Paul, you just had to be a friend. Never letting distance or time be a factor. Many times, Paul would call friends to reach to see how you were doing, to say hello, and tell you that he loved you.
Unmatched in his resolve he was a true warrior, battling his illness with courage to hang on to the life he loved so much. Paul may no longer be with us in the physical sense, but all of us, especially in the Adirondacks, will have his gift of friendship and music in our hearts forever. Let us go forward and live our best lives as we all know Paul would want us to, but to be sure to do in his words, with “A Little More Heart”.

Jonah A. Hoffert - October 28, 2002 - May 11, 2022

Departed: 05/11/2022 (Old Forge)
Obituary Preview: We know that death is not the end, not an error, not a failure. We understand on the physical and subtle level that energy cannot be created or destroyed, that it is in constant motion, morphing, and bending and waving. We feel the transformed presence of your soul’s vibration all around us. Not a bit of you is gone; you’re just less orderly.
Jonah Alan Hoffert, 19, returned his physical body to earth and his soul to the cosmos on May 11, 2022 in Rome, NY, where he loved to explore silly and exhilarating ways of being with his best friends. He began his culminating adventure on the material plane barefoot and unexpectedly, like taking off a tight shoe worn well to run free in the tides of the eternal.
Jonah took his first breath in his human form in the space-time continuum of Lowville, New York on October 28, 2002. A sensitive soul from the start, as a baby he loved to cry to the sound of the harmonica. He attended Town of Webb and Adirondack schools, where he boldly refused any limits set on his intellectual and relational endeavors as a true student of the universe.
His soul is cloaked with a sense of humor, zen-like equanimity, and unapologetic authenticity that he brought to all of his encounters with the living world. He loved asking deep questions, experimenting with different modes of consciousness, and making and eating chocolate chip pancakes.
He is survived by his parents (Amanda and John) his grandparents (John and Therá, Craig and Beverly, Bonnie and Dean, and Larry), great grandfather John, his aunts and uncles, (Morgan, Whitney [Brandon], Alexandra [William], Jordan [Garrett], Jeremy, Lance, Jared, Larry [Charity], Alexander [Mikala], and Casey [Samantha]), friends (Shaq, Jamal, Kazzie, Buddy, Jules, Noah) and countless family, friends, and fellow travelers.
There will be a celebration of Jonah’s life on Friday, May 20, 2022 at 3 Willows Event Center in Lyons Falls, NY from 2 – 5 p.m. The family encourages you to wear what makes you feel alive and uniquely you as Jonah always did. Bathrobes, sunglasses, and the color pink are highly welcome. Donations may be made in his memory to PO Box 1072, Old Forge, NY 13420. “To live is to risk it all; otherwise you're just an inert chunk of randomly assembled molecules drifting wherever the universe blows you.” – Rick
