Obituary Preview: Russel Clay Greer, 93, of Peach Bottom, passed away on Friday, May 3, 2024, at Lancaster General Hospital. He was the husband of the late Hazel M. (Hershour) Greer, with whom he shared 61 years of marriage at the time of her passing in 2011.
Born on May 14, 1930, in Ashe County, NC, he was the son of the late Lillard and Ethel (Roop) Greer.
Russel moved to Pennsylvania when he was 14 to help on his brother-in-law’s farm. He worked as a farmer all of his life and also performed carpentry work and built houses with James Tucker and Bill Morris.
He is survived by his children, Granville Greer, of New Providence, Ruth Rogers, of Sarasota, FL, and Susan Greer, of Peach Bottom, a grandson, William Greer, of Peach Bottom, and his two buddies, Olive and Diesel. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Steve Rogers, and seven siblings.
Traditional interment will be private at Little Britain Presbyterian Cemetery.

Robert Daniel Nance - May 16, 1942 - May 02, 2024

Obituary Preview: Robert Daniel Nance, affectionately known as Bob, departed from this world on May 2, 2024, at the age of 81, leaving behind a legacy of love, faith, and generosity. Born on May 16, 1942, Bob's life was a testament to the power of family, faith, and community.
For 42 years, Bob shared a deeply cherished marriage with his loving wife, Sandra June Taddei Nance. Their union was a shining example of love, resilience, and commitment.
Bob's impact lives on through family: his brother, Richard William Nance (wife Barbara); his daughters, Christa Darleen Dardaganian, Amy Rebecca Richardson (husband Kent), and Danielle Elizabeth Nance; his grandchildren, Kailey Catherine Winkler (husband Matthew), Theodore William Boeke (wife Taylor), Faith Elizabeth Witherow (husband Will), Jessica Dardaganian, and Sarah Frances Dardaganian; and his great-grandchild, Shepherd Matthew Winkler. Their lives were enriched by his love, wisdom, and support.
He was preceded in death by his parents William Franklin Nance and Helen Frances Ary Nance, daughter, Robyn Cathleen Nance, and brother, Donald Benjamin Nance.
Bob's love extended beyond his immediate family to his nephews and niece, whose lives he enriched with his kindness and wisdom.
Bob's faith was the cornerstone of his life, as demonstrated by his active involvement in the First Presbyterian Church of Ambler. His spiritual journey provided him with strength, comfort, and perseverance through life's trials and triumphs.
In addition to his dedication to family and community, Bob graduated from Redlands High School in 1960 and went on to earn a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Redlands. He served as a member of the United States Marine Corps and California Highway Patrolman before transitioning into a successful career as a pharmaceutical executive. Bob's diverse experiences reflected his passion for excellence in every endeavor he pursued, leaving an enduring history of professionalism and service.
A man of many interests, Bob approached life with boundless curiosity and enthusiasm. From his love of Philadelphia sports to his appreciation for the arts and sciences, he embraced every opportunity to explore and learn.
Bob found immense joy in travel, whether exploring the world, hitting the slopes on ski trips, or continuing the cherished tradition of visiting Ocean Isle Beach annually for over 30 years. These gatherings fostered enduring memories and deepened the bonds of love and togetherness within his family.

Obituary Preview: Anna May Henry went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, May 1, 2024, at her home in New Providence. Born on April 25, 1924, to the late Parke S. and Ruth H. (Evans) Shaub, she passed away six days after her 100th birthday. She was the loving wife of the late Samuel J. Henry, with whom she shared 56 years of marriage at the time of his passing in 1998.
Anna May made a career working in production at J.L. Clark, retiring with 48 years of service. In her spare time, she enjoyed crocheting, gardening, and spending time with her family. Anna May was a life member of Refton Fire Company, and she was a long-time member of Lampeter United Methodist Church.
She is survived by a brother, Howard Shaub, husband of Kathy, of Willow Street and grandchildren, Robin, Robert, and Rhonda. She is also survived by 8 great-grandchildren, 12 great-great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-great-grandchildren, and a dear friend with whom she resided, Josephine Lockhart, of New Providence. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Geneva Wilburn, brothers, Parke, Jr., Raymond, Charles, John, and Robert Shaub, and sisters, Shirley Krause, June McCauley, Betty Jane Kegel, and Bonnie Sue Shaub, who died soon after birth.
A Graveside Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, May 7, 2024, at Conestoga Memorial Park, 95 Second Lock Road, Lancaster, PA 17603, with Reverend Dr. John G. Smith officiating.

Obituary Preview: Mary E. Mellinger, 86, formerly of Quarryville, entered into rest on Wednesday, May 1, 2024, at Lancaster Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Born in Lancaster, she was the daughter of the late J. Lester and Reba G. (Sechrist) Glackin. She was married to the late John R. Mellinger for 50 years at the time of his passing in 2007.
Mary grew up and returned to raise her family in Chestnut Level, a very precious place to the Glackin and Mellinger families. Mary was a 1955 graduate of Solanco High School. She then worked as a bank teller and was also employed by Cash and Carry Electrical Supply in Quarryville. Mary loved music and was well known for performing on the marimba. She also played piano and organ at Chestnut Level Presbyterian Church, where she was a member for over 50 years. Her faith was very important to her. She enjoyed crocheting, reading, gardening, and spending time with her family at the hunting camp in Potter Co.
Mary is survived by 2 children: Dale H., husband of Marilyn Stein and Toni, wife of Jeff Phillips; 4 grandchildren: Stephanie, Stacie, Trevor, and Selah; and 3 great grandchildren: Denny, Cece, and Ariel. Also surviving is a sister, Harriet Bowen. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Carol S. Bushman, and her brother, Roy M. Glackin.
A Memorial Service will take place on Monday, May 13, 2024, at Chestnut Level Presbyterian Church, 1068 Chestnut Level Road, Quarryville at 3:00 PM. The family will receive friends at the church from 2-3 PM. There will also be a reception in the Family Life Center following the service. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family.

Obituary Preview: Mary Ann Thomas, 79, of Little Britain, passed away at her home on April 26, 2024, after a lengthy illness. She died peacefully with family. Mary Ann was born August 26, 1944 in Oxford to the late Oscar and Ethel (Cregger) Bard. She was preceded in death by her husband David C. Thomas (1941-2020). They were married for 59 years.
Mary Ann was a graduate of Oxford High School. She was employed for 27 years and retired from her husband’s business. She enjoyed traveling with Dave and was a big country music fan, spending many vacations in Nashville and surrounding areas. An avid photographer, she enjoyed taking wildlife photos. Mary Ann loved spending time at the family cabin in Potter County watching wildlife and rocking with Dave on the porch. Watching her sons, and then grandchildren play sports provided so much enjoyment for her. She rarely missed an event.
Mary Ann is survived by two sons, David, Jr. (Michelle) Thomas and Joshua (Paula) Thomas both of Little Britain; 5 grandchildren, which she adored: Ben Thomas, Brooke (Thomas) Connor, Brady Thomas, David and Aiden Ortega. She is also survived by a brother, John O Bard of Oxford.
A Private Funeral Ceremony will be held at Dewald Funeral and Cremation Services, 227 West Fourth Street, Quarryvile, followed by interment in the Cochranville United Methodist Cemetery.

Born in Paradise, she was the daughter of the late J. Earl and Mary Margaret (Miller) Rice. She was the loving wife of Paul J. Reinhart for 67 years at the time of his passing in 2017.
Kay was a graduate of Paradise High School. She was a longtime member of Middle Octorara Presbyterian Church. She enjoyed being social, especially during her time working at Good ‘N Plenty Restaurant and the Amish Farm and House. She retired as a file clerk from Hartman, Underhill and Brubaker Law Firm. Kay loved spending time with family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Kay is survived by two children, Michael Reinhart of Lancaster; and Jan, wife of Scott Tanguy of New Providence; two grandchildren, Joelle, wife of Chris Eyster and Jarid Tanguy; two great grandchildren, Noah and Oliver Eyster; and siblings, Mary Brown and Joseph Rice. She was preceded in death by a son, Curtis Reinhart and a sister, Jean DeVerter.
A Funeral Service will take place at Middle Octorara Presbyterian Church, 1199 Valley Rd., Quarryville, PA on Friday, May 3, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. There will be a viewing at the church from 10-11 a.m. Private interment will be in the adjoining cemetery. Obituary Preview: Donald G. Herr, 86, of Quarryville passed away on Friday, April 19, 2024. Born in Lancaster, he was the only child of Grable S. and Martha B. (Herr) Herr. He was the loving husband of Doris (Landis) Herr for 63 years.
Don graduated from Solanco High School in 1955 and went on to farm for most of his life. He retired from the family-owned trucking business, Edgar M. Herr, Inc. He was a member of Mechanic Grove Mennonite Church, where he had been a life-long member. Don had served on the Solanco School Board and the Black Rock Retreat Board of Directors. Donald loved spending time with his family. He also enjoyed listening to Gospel music. Collecting farm toys and trucks was one of his favorite hobbies. In recent years, he enjoyed giving his collectibles away to family. Don was a soft-spoken and patient man.
In addition to his wife, Don is survived by 3 children: Dwight L., husband of Sharon (Pease) Herr of Quarryville; Darlene F., wife of Dean Groff of Kinzers; and David L., husband of Erika (Buchen) Herr of Quarryville; 10 grandchildren, and 10 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a granddaughter.
A Funeral Service will take place at Mechanic Grove Mennonite Church, 735 Church Rd., Quarryville, PA on Friday, April 26, 2024 at 10:30 AM. Interment will be private in the New Providence Mennonite Cemetery.
Viewings will be held at the church on Thursday evening from 6:30-8:00 PM and also one hour prior to the service on Friday.

Barbara M. Jones - July 08, 1941 - April 19, 2024

Obituary Preview: Dr. Barbara M. “Barb” Jones, 82, of Quarryville, PA, and formerly of Cherokee, NC, and Ercildoun, PA, departed this life on Friday, April 19, 2024. She was the wife of the late Owen L. Jones, Sr., with whom she shared 21 years of marriage at the time of his passing in 1988.
Born in Kenosha, WI, she was the daughter of the late Donald Frank Siver, Sr., and the late Margaret Lucy (Clarke) Siver-Lashway.
Barbara was a graduate of Kemper Hall in Kenosha, WI, class of 1959. She went on to earn a bachelor’s degree from Ripon College in 1963, followed by attending Temple University, where she earned master’s and doctorate degrees.
Dr. Barbara M. Jones had the privilege of working and serving as a counselor, teacher, or supervisor with every age group from infancy through elementary age, middle school, young adult, and completed the full spectrum, most recently working as a receptionist in senior living settings.
During school at Ripon College, Barbara worked as a teacher with preschoolers at a day camp in the near north side of Chicago, IL, and another summer as a counselor at a work camp for teens out of New York City. She worked as a personal-adjustment and vocational counselor for young people in a residential treatment facility. Barb developed and supervised a day school program for middle school children with learning disabilities. She also supervised classroom programs for early childhood education. For a number of years, she operated several tutoring centers, providing individual tutoring in reading for elementary-level children.
Barbara was proud of her work with special education programs and services for all levels from infant through high school for the Cherokee Indian Reservation in North Carolina. She also taught math for several years at the Job Corps Program and conducted an individualized special needs accommodations program as well as adult literacy.
Dr. Barbara Jones felt very blessed in her career of service to people through education. She also was a loving wife, sister, cousin, aunt, and friend. She loved her family and the Lord. She was decorated in horsemanship, jumping, and fox hunting.
Barbara also loved her community, her friends, a.k.a. “The Conowingo Clutch,” her Amish neighbors, and the calm country way of life. She had an intense love of horses, birds, cats, nature, and gardening, as well as reading and writing poetry. She loved music and playing mandolin, hosting friends and family for a “Hootenanny” of singing, playing, and dancing.
Barbara was a global philanthropist and a great friend to many people across the US. She was a safe haven for all neighborhood stray cats as well as her own beloved “Tessy”.
Lastly, and most of all, she loved to use her life for purpose: service to humanity and God’s creatures. As said by Barbara, “I believe the saddest part of life, when people have to die and leave us. I believe they go to a place of peace and joy and no more pain.” We will miss her deeply.
She is survived by her nieces, Marie Sorensen, of Salem, WI, Michele Lodge, of Frazer, PA, Melinda Mattson and Jessica Guyer, both of Coatesville; cousins, Frank Siver, of CT, and Stanford Siver, of WA; a stepdaughter, Carolyn Julye, of Mount Airy, PA; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband and her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Donald Frank Siver, Jr. and George Ray Siver, and a stepson, Robert Jones.
A Viewing will be held from 12:00 noon – 2 PM on Saturday, April 27, 2024 at Dewald Funeral & Cremation Services, 227 West 4th Street, Quarryville, PA 17566. Interment will follow the viewing at Church of Christ Cemetery, Ercildoun, PA.

Born in Lancaster, he was the son of Leo N. Tollinger, of Quarryville, and Patsy (Groff) Eller, of Little Britain.
Gary had worked for Buck Iron as a tow motor operator. In his early years, he enjoyed going camping. He also loved to hunt and fish and he enjoyed cooking on the grill.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Pete Tollinger, husband of Cheyenne, and their children, Hailey and Alexis, all of the Buck; brother, Leo (Denise) Tollinger, Jr., of New Providence; sister, Trudy (Dale) Waite, of Huntingdon County; aunt, Joanne (Harold) Hogg, of Atglen; stepmother, Barb Tollinger, of Quarryville; stepbrother, Jeffrey (Danielle) Ankrim, of New Providence; two nieces, two nephews, and a close family friend, Jake Murr. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Norris and Margaret (Childress) Tollinger, maternal grandparents, John M. Groff and Anna (Brooks) Groff, aunt, Elaine Simes, stepfather, David L. Eller, and a niece, Danielle Lorraine Tollinger.

Joseph A. Metzler - November 02, 1948 - April 13, 2024

Obituary Preview: Joseph Aaron “Joe" Metzler, 75, of Mount Vernon, OH passed away after a lengthy illness and was received into his Lord and Savior's care on April 13, 2024. He was born on November 2, 1948, in Holtwood, PA, to Christian Leaman and Anna (Walters) Metzler. He grew up on a farm in what is now Muddy Run Park. He was the husband of Rhoda June (Long) Metzler. They were married on December 24, 1975. His first wife, Irene Marie (Esch) Metzler passed away on March 3, 1975. They were married on May 1, 1971.
Joe attended Penn Manor High School and later completed his course of study with the Church of the Nazarene. He worked for Queen Dairy in Lancaster, farmed for his brother-in-law Clyde Miller in Quarryville, and sold auto parts for Jerome H. Rhoads. Later, Joe and Rhoda worked together here as he managed Rhoads Service Center and she managed Rhoads Mart in Intercourse, PA. Joe later worked for Ephrata Auto Parts.
Joe chose Jesus as his Savior and Lord at a young age and he lived his life in service to God. Joe and Rhoda volunteered on several Work and Witness teams and did prison ministry through the Ephrata Church of the Nazarene throughout the 1980s and 1990s. Joe served as pastor at both Romney and Grafton Blueville Church of the Nazarene in the late 1990s and early 2000s. He loved working on automobiles for family and friends, and also enjoyed hunting for archery, rifle, and muzzleloader seasons.
In addition to his wife, Joe is survived by three children: Stuart, married to Laura (Hess) of Lancaster, PA, Joni Bertram of Elkhart, IN and Jed, married to Jennifer (Haines) of Rio, WV; eight grandchildren: Jamison and Hope Bertram and Isabelle, Benjamin, Toby, Nicholas, Malachi and Christopher Metzler; and four siblings: Barbara Miller, Samuel Metzler (Janie), Lillian Yoder (John), and Arlene Carpenter (James). He was predeceased by a brother-in-law, Clyde Miller, brother, Christian Lehman Metzler, and sister, Susan Metzler.
Thanks to Whispering Hills Care Center for providing long-term care for the past two and a half years.
A viewing will take place at New Danville Mennonite Church, 103 Marticville Rd., Lancaster, PA on Friday, April 19, 2024, from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. with the service by Pastor Jed Metzler to follow at 12:00 noon.

Rose Ann Brown - August 14, 1959 - April 03, 2024

Obituary Preview: Rose Ann Brown, 64, of Palmyra, passed away at her home on Wednesday, April 3, 2024. She was the beloved wife of Robert M. Brown, with whom she shared 13 years of marriage.
Born in Lancaster, she was the daughter of Helen G. (Jeffries) Tyson, of Palmyra, and the late John E. Tyson.
Rose was a graduate of Manheim Central High School, class of 1978. She was employed as a Certified Nursing Assistant at Penn State Hershey Medical Center, where she retired from with 24 years of service. Rose was an active volunteer in her community. She served as an EMT with Lawn Ambulance and she served as a firefighter with Lawn Fire Company and Campbelltown Fire Company. She also attended fire school to receive Wildfire Training.
In addition to her husband and her mother, she is survived by her cousins, Harry Tyson, June Knight, Evelyn Todd and Charles Blevins. She is also survived by a brother-in-law, William H. Brown, husband of Judith, of Florida. In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by a cousin, Franklin Shreckengast.

Dennis J. Witmer, Sr. - March 25, 1951 - April 02, 2024

Obituary Preview: Dennis J. “Denny” Witmer, Sr., 73, of New Providence, passed away at his home on Tuesday, April 2, 2024. He was the beloved husband of Shirley A. (Flora) Witmer, with whom he shared 52 years of marriage.
Born in Lancaster, he was the son of the late Amos G. Witmer and Mary E. (Henry) Warner.
Denny was a graduate of Solanco High School, class of 1970. Following high school, he attended the Willow Street Vo-Tech to study HVAC. Denny went on to have a career in industrial maintenance, working for Herr Pump Company, Frank Ix & Sons, Inc./Mirarobles, Inc., and most recently for Keystone Weaving, where he retired as a maintenance supervisor.
Denny was known for being able to work on many different things, such as electrical wiring, HVAC, and automobiles, performing both mechanical and body repairs. In his spare time, he enjoyed going fishing and going on cruises. He was also an avid fan of WWE. Denny attended New Providence Church of God.
In addition to his wife he is survived by his sons, Dennis James “DJ” Witmer, Jr., husband of John David Brunson, of Middletown, DE, and Michael Witmer, of New Providence; grandchildren, Danielle Witmer, fiancée of Caleb Pousima, Chad Witmer, and Davin Caldwell; brothers, Kenneth E. Witmer, of Holtwood, and James A. Witmer, of Mountville; a stepbrother, Richard Warner, Jr., husband of Cindi, of Arkansas; and a step-sister, Marianne Gerlach, wife of Jeff, of Millersville. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a stepfather, Richard R. Warner, Sr.
A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 10, 2024, at Dewald Funeral & Cremation Services, 227 West 4th Street, Quarryville, PA 17566 with Pastor Dwight Lefever officiating. Jack had worked for Exelon Corp. as a maintenance technician for over 40 years.

Ken graduated from Eastern Nazarene College in Quincy, MA with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology and a minor in Chemistry. He held various positions over the years, including working in research at Beth Israel Hospital in Boston, MA, quality control, and as a part-time professor. The profession he enjoyed the most was being a self-taught Master Kiln Builder and Potter. He designed or built kilns in Switzerland, Portugal, Australia, Mexico, Canada and the United States. His pottery has been shown in multiple national and international exhibitions. He also taught wood firing workshops in several places.
In his spare time, Ken enjoyed visiting nursing homes, gardening, spending time by the river and reading his Bible. He was a devout Christian and attended New Providence Baptist Church.
In addition to his wife, Ken is survived by two sons, Erik, husband of Ofeliya of Walpole, MA and Joshua, husband of Mari of Marina, CA; one grandson, Valentino of Marina, CA; a brother, Byron, husband of Lisa of Lancaster; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Born in East Lampeter Township, he was the son of the late Amos and Mary (Glick) King.
Amos proudly served in the U.S. Army from 1964 -1966. As a young man he learned to be an electrician, first for High Steel, then he worked many years for Lapp Electric, and most recently he worked for Yarnell Security, retiring at the age of 80. Amos was a diehard fan of NASCAR, collected NASCAR memorabilia, and followed several drivers. He was an excellent electrician, known for being a hard worker, and he could figure out and fix most anything. Amos was a member of Calvary Church for 40 years. Having been blessed with marriage after being single for many years, Amos frequently stated, “I became a husband, father, and grandfather with one I do.”
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his sons, Paul (Larry) Ayers, of Lancaster, Douglas Ayers, husband of Cindy, of Lancaster, Stephen Ayers, husband of Tonya, of Washington, NC, Theodore Ayers, of Ohio, and Christopher Ayers, husband of Beverly, of Lancaster. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Scott, Andrew, Heath, Amanda, Breana, Alyssa, Brent, Christopher, Jr., Austin, and Jordan, and 6 great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, John, Jake, Daniel, and Aaron King, and sisters, Lydia Beiler, Susie Smoker, Sadie Lantz, and Katie King.

Francy was preceded in death by a daughter, Darlene Rush and 9 brothers and sisters. She is survived by a son, John H. Jr., husband of Rebecca Rush of New Providence; two grandsons, Brett, husband of Dawn Rush of New Providence and Chad, husband of Hannah Rush of Nottingham. Also surviving are four great-grandchildren: Jonathon (Alissa) Rush, Jordan (Jessica) Rush, Abigail (Keith) Sassaman and Brooke Rush.
Francy was a life-long member of Mt. Hope United Methodist Church. She loved her church and served faithfully for many, many years; always willing to do whatever needed to be done. She was a Sunday school teacher for over 40 years. She enjoyed doing things for others, making meals, visiting and taking flowers.
Francy grew up on a farm and worked alongside her husband on the family farm until 1976. In her spare time, she loved gardening, crocheting, reading, and spending time with her family. She loved baking pies, sugar cookies and hundreds of pecan tarts. Francy spent over twenty years babysitting in her home, giving parents the peace of mind that their children were being loved and well cared for.
A celebration of Francy’s life will take place in the Ellingsworth Auditorium at Q.P.R.C., 625 Robert Fulton Hwy, Quarryville, PA on Saturday, April 6, 2024, at 4:00 p.m. The family will greet friends from 3-4 p.m.

In her spare time, Opal enjoyed reading and traveling. During her lifetime she was a member of an Assembly of God Church, most recently Lancaster First Assembly of God. Opal had a passion and a ministry for working with children, being involved in children’s church, Sunday School, Christian Club, and Bible to School for over 50 years. She enjoyed doing things for others, and she was known for being one of the kindest people you would ever meet.
She is survived by a son, George MacDurmon, husband of Roe, of Edmond, OK; daughters, Kathryn MacMullen, of Strasburg, and Joanne Holden, wife of Ryan, of Willow Spring, NC; grandchildren, Jonathan (Stephanie) MacDurmon, Lindsay (Daniel) Dickey, Allyson (Shaun) Williams, Reagan Greer, and Meredith Greer. She is also survived by 5 great-grandchildren, and a brother, Roger Sweitzer, husband of Dorinda, of California. In addition to her husband and her parents, she was preceded in death by an infant son, Daniel MacDurmon, sons-in-law Allyn Greer and Charles MacMullen, 1 brother and 1 sister.

He is survived by his siblings, Lindsay Harnish, wife of J. Donald “Chubb”, of Conestoga, Allan Druck, husband of Beverly, of Quarryville, and Dennis Druck, companion of Beverly Bareham, of Quarryville. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
