Obituary Preview: Claire L. Preston, of Hanover Township, passed away on Tuesday, March 22, 2022 at home.
Born in Wilkes-Barre, she was the daughter of the late John and Beatrice Munley Sauer, was employed as a LPN and enjoyed spending time with family.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph J. Preston in 1987; grandson, AJ Uranowski; brother, Joseph Sauer and two sisters, Mildred and Geraldine Sauer.
Claire is survived by daughters, Kathleen Preston of Hanover Township; Maureen Preston of West Pittston; Joan Cochran of Luzerne; Janice Preston-Oltra and her husband, Ed, of Sweet Valley and numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, March 25, 2022, at 10:00 am in St. Robert Bellarmine Church, Barney St. Wilkes-Barre, with Reverend Richard Cirba officiating.  Interment will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, Hanover Twp.
Friends are invited to join the family for a visitation from 9:30 am until time of Mass at the Church.

Obituary Preview: Eugene (Gene) Schultz 58, of Mountaintop, passed away on Friday, January 21st, 2022 with family by his side. Gene was the son of Jean C. (Zielinski) Schultz and the late John B Schultz of Mountaintop. He was the beloved husband of Lisa A. (Boris) Schultz and devoted father of Noah R Schultz, who both survive him.
Born in Wilkes Barre, he was a graduate of Crestwood High School class of 1982. He worked locally at Hydro Extrusions for the past 30 years and was a member of St. Jude’s Church. Growing up in Mountain Top, Gene loved spending time with his family. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing and watching Penn State football. His most cherished time, however, was spent watching his son Noah play football and lacrosse for Crestwood High School.
In addition to his father, Gene was preceded in death by his brother John (Jackie) Schultz.
He is survived, in addition to his mother, wife and son, by siblings, Robert Schultz and his wife Brigitte of Florida. Joseph and his wife Anne also of Florida. David and his wife Kelly of Mountaintop. Niece and nephews.

Obituary Preview: Joseph J. “Jimmy” Pugh, 71, of Mountain Top, died on Tuesday evening, January 18, 2022, in the Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.
Born in Plymouth, he was the son of the late Charles and Amelia McElwee Pugh and worked for Lucas Farms, Hanover Township for many years, prior to retirement.
In addition to his parents, Jimmy was preceded in death by his wife, Alice Marie Nemic Pugh; siblings, Charles Pugh and Sally Pavone.
He is survived by his daughter, Stephanie Kopco and her husband, Andy of Nanticoke; sons, Michael and Joseph Pugh of Wilkes-Barre; dog, Buddy; siblings, Diane Duca, Shirley Noonan, Pat Sabecky, Mary Kitzmiller, William T. “Bill” Pugh, Joan Sistrunk, nieces and nephews.
His wishes were to have no public services with burial in Alberts Cemetery.

JOHN F. RODRIGUEZ - Unknown - January 08, 2022

Obituary Preview: It is with heavy hearts; we announce the passing of John F. Rodriguez (Champ) of Freeland.
Born December 19, 1964, in Wilkes-Barre and reared in Plymouth, he graduated from Wyoming Valley West High School, playing football, baseball and wrestling and Penn State University, where he earned his Associate Degree in Engineering.  He was employed for 36 years by Barletta Materials, Nescopeck as a Quality Control Supervisor.  When his daughters were young, he spent many years as President of Larksville Greenwave Mini Football and Cheerleading organizations, resurrecting the field house and now dedicated the John Rodriguez field house.
In recent years, he enjoyed entertaining family and friends at his and Ruth's home, always keeping busy with projects or adding a new addition to the property.  He loved a good football game, was an avid Penn State and Pittsburgh Steelers Fan and loved his nightly phone calls with his mother, while watching the news or Lawrence Welk.  He enjoyed road trips, flea marketing, watching birds, gardening, canning, listening to music while relaxing on his patio, under his newly built pole barn with Ruth, thinking of the next project, always spending time together, which he wanted no other way. Pop Pop adored all his grandchildren from coaching, giving helpful hints with sports, teaching, playing games, cheering them on and we cannot forget the quad rides!
Everyone's "handyman" and our families go too. Never a project too big, he would methodically think it out, draw it up, and away we go.  The problem solver on multiple levels, knowledgeable on all aspects of life, and for this we are forever thankful.
John was preceded in death by his daughter, Kaylin Jonelle Rodriguez.
He is survived by his mother and best friend, Loretta Rodriguez; by his daughter, Kassie Rodriguez and her fiancé, Greg Solis, of Pringle and their 5 children; sister, Teresa Rodriguez (Harry) of Plymouth; John's companion, Ruth Mason of Freeland, and her 4 children, BobbiJo (Vince); Karissa (John); Robbie (Drea); Nathan (Joeline) and their 14 grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 13, 2022, from 5 to 7 pm at the Desiderio-Lehman Funeral and Cremation, 436 S. Mountain Blvd. Mountain Top with a Mass of Christian Burial on Friday, at 9:30 am in Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception Church, 898 Centre Street, Freeland.  Those attending the Mass are asked to go directly to the church.  Interment will follow in St. Ignatius Cemetery, Pringle.
Everyone is asked to wear a mask to both visitation and Mass. Since John was a transplant recipient, in lieu of flowers, we ask everyone to consider being an Organ Donor or make donations to Epilepsy Children's Hospital and Research Center or Operation Smile. "Until We Meet Again"

She enjoyed going to the beach, reading and doing crossword puzzles.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ronald Birk, Sr.; son, Stephen Birk; grandchildren, Ronald Birk III, Manda Eckrote Birk and sister, Marlene Griffin.
Anna Marie is survived by her daughter, Cindy (Eugene) Manfre of Wilkes-Barre; son, Ronald (Valery) Birk Jr.; grandchildren, Loriann (Eric) Conahan; Mark (Stacey) Manfre; Nicole (Ryan Brown) Manfre; Megan Birk and Christian; Zachery Birk and Autumn; great grandchildren, Olivia and Luke Conahan, Landon Birk, Kaysen and Kennedy Brown, Tucker and Lonie Eckrote, nieces and nephews.

Born in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, he was the son of the late Floyd Tate and Hanna Hart Tate. Robert served his country proudly in the United States Army during Korea and was employed as a machinist prior to retirement. He enjoyed walks with the family dogs, planting tomatoes and word puzzle books. He was active in the community, was a member of the American Legion, Mountain Top and Little Falls, NJ; the VFW of Cedar Grove, NJ and volunteered as FireFighter in Cedar Grove, NJ.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded by his first wife, Marge Tate; second wife, June Tate; two daughters, Susan Miller and Linda Nigra and siblings, David and Jacqueline Tate.
Robert is survived by his son, Thomas Tate of Florida; step children, Michele Clark and Janet Giarratano, both of Mountain Top; William (Joanne) Taylor of Little Falls, NJ; Al (Norma) Taylor of Wayne, NJ; many grandchildren, great grandchildren; siblings, Clarence, Gail and Richard Tate, nieces, nephews; great nieces and nephews.

Obituary Preview: Patricia Ann Gruscavage, of Mountain Top, died on Saturday, December 11, 2021, in the Wilkes-Barre General Hospital. The love of our lives is now watching over us from heaven.
Born in Peckville, she was the daughter of the late George and Helen Tabor Drutarovsky; was a graduate of Jessup High School and earned her Associates Degree from the Scranton State School of Nursing.  Patricia worked as a Registered Nurse in hospital, home health, Allied Services and Private practice over a long nursing career. Pat was a caring and skilled nurse who put her patients as the first priority. She was a member of St. Jude's Church, Mountain Top and Volunteered for many organizations, including St. Paul's Church, Free Medical Clinics. She enjoyed gardening and spending time with her children and grandchildren.
Pat enjoyed traveling, loved historical places and yearly beach vacations at Myrtle Beach. Pat was an avid Notre Dame fan and enjoyed watching college and NFL football, NBA games and baseball playoffs with her husband. Pat and Frank traveled to various casinos over the years for lots of vacation fun.
She is survived by her loving husband of 49 years, Frank Gruscavage; daughter, Jennifer Pachick and her husband, Ray of Huntersville, NC; son, Daniel Gruscavage and his wife, Abbie of Canton, GA; grandchildren, Makenzie and Austin Pachick; Charles, Clara and Lucy Gruscavage.  She is also survived by two sisters, Rose (David) Moczulski of Dunmore; Kay (John) Johnson of Eynon; nieces and nephews.

ROBERT ABDO - Unknown - December 06, 2021

Obituary Preview: Robert J. Abdo, 72, of Mountain Top, born and raised in Scranton, died at home of natural causes Monday, December 6, 2021.  He was the son of the late Edmund and Alice (Golod) Abdo Sr.  He was a graduate of Scranton Central High School, where he was an outstanding athlete and excelled in baseball, football, and basketball.  Bob served his country proudly in the US Air Force, at Phang Rang Air Force Base, South Vietnam.  He also served a tour of duty at Lakenheath Air Force Base, England.  He was the recipient of the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, and Good Conduct Medal. In his early career Bob was a Manager for Rite Aid Corporation and then further served his country for 30 years as a Commissary Supervisor at the Tobyhanna Army Depot.
Robert is survived by his brothers: Edmund (Mary Alice) Abdo Jr. Honesdale, PA.; Garry Abdo Purcellville, VA; Larry (Sheila) Abdo Scranton, PA and nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He enjoyed classic movies and watching the Washington Football Team and New York Yankees.  He conducted daily family text quizzes and was fondly regarded as the “Quiz Master.”  He loved vacationing on Long Beach Island, NJ and was a member of the Mountain Top American Legion.
A Memorial Mass will be held on Monday, December 13, 2021, at 11:00 am from St. Jude’s Church, Mountain Top with Reverend Joe Evanko officiating.  Private interment will follow in St. Catherine’s Cemetery, Moscow.
Friends are invited to join the family for a visitation at the church from 10:00 am until the time of Mass.

Obituary Preview: Marie Antosh left this world to be with her Lord and Savior on December 5, 2021 while being cared for by some of her family at their home in Fredericksburg, Va.
She was born to Stanley and Alice (Kivler) Stuka, in Shickshinny, Pennsylvania on Nov 26, 1928. She was preceded in death by her husband Albert, her son Albert Jr., her parents, sisters Helen and Ruth, and brother Stanley Jr.
Marie is survived by her seven children and their families and her sister Frances and her family. She was devoted to her fifteen grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren. Raising her children was the greatest joy in her life, and she was a remarkable Mother, Grandmother, and Great Grandmother.
After retiring from RCA in 1993, Marie spent much of her time visiting with her family celebrating everyday life, holidays and special occasions including traveling with them to Europe and Hawaii.   She was a talented seamstress who loved any kind of handiwork and enjoyed being out in her yard and working in the garden.
A devout Catholic, Marie and her family were members of St. Jude since its founding in the 1950s, and all her children are graduates of St. Jude School. Marie was a faithful servant of the Lord and her faith touched every aspect of her life.
Funeral service will be conducted on Wednesday, December 15, 2021 at 9:30 am from the Desiderio-Lehman Funeral and Cremation 436 S. Mountain Blvd. Mountain Top with a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Jude's Church, Mountain Top at 10:00 am.  Interment will follow in Calvery Cemetery, next to her husband.
Friends are invited to join the family for a Celebration of Life visitation on Tuesday, December 14, 2021 from 4 to 6 pm and again Wednesday morning from 9:00 am until time of service.

Born in Kingston, November 15, 1935, he was the son of the late Joseph and Catherine Kazmeroski, was a graduate of Wyoming Seminary and earned his Bachelor of Science Degree from King's College. Bernie was employed by Upjohn Pharmaceutical as a sales representative for over 30 years prior to his retirement.   He was a member of St. Jude's Church, Mountain Top, and the Nuangola Rod and Gun Club.
Bernie was an accomplished trap shooter and enjoyed spending time with his friends at the gun club and at the family farm in the Back Mountain area.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 57 years, Theresa Rodriguez Kazmeroski and son, James.
Left to cherish his memory is his daughter, Julie (John) Helinski of Wilkes-Barre; step granddaughter, Rachel Helinski of Philadelphia; sisters and brothers in law, Joan (Carl, deceased) Rodriguez, FL; Stella (Jack) Linehan, Kent, NY; Joe (Patti) Rodriguez of Shavertown; numerous nieces and nephews.
A Blessing service will be conducted on Thursday, December 9, 2021, at 10:00 a.m. from the Desiderio-Lehman Funeral and Cremation, 436 S. Mountain Blvd., Mountaintop, PA with Deacon Jim officiating. Entombment will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery Mausoleum.

John, alongside his wife, Maria, owned and operated JE Quick Marts at Konns Corners and S. Main Road, Mountain Top, prior to retirement. John had a strong work ethic and enjoyed taking care of the garden.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by siblings.
John is survived by his loving wife, Maria Klapacz, children, Lisa and her husband Mike Coulter of Wilkes-Barre; Thomas Colon and his wife Amy of Blackwood, NJ; Antonio Rivera, Frances and her husband, Anthony Joseph Montagnino; Howard H. Colon, all of New Jersey; 4 grandchildren; sister, Ramona and her husband Ralph Garcia, Houston, TX and many nieces and nephews.

GEORGE E. STOZENSKI - Unknown - November 16, 2021

Obituary Preview: George E. Stozenski, a resident of Mountain Top, died on Tuesday evening, November 16, 2021.
Born in Forty Fort on Dec. 29, 1927, he was the son of the late John and Mary Hardish Stozenski.  George was a graduate of Forty Fort High School, Class of 1945, where he was a three sport athlete.  He attended Scranton University on a football/basketball scholarship. Following a year at Scranton, and two years in the Army, he transferred to Drexel University in Philadelphia.  He played football and baseball at Drexel and was a member of Theta Chi Fraternity.
After graduating from Drexel and several job locations, he joined PPL in 1956, as the Senior Industrial Marketing Engineer in Wilkes-Barre.  He spent 35 years with the company retiring as the Wilkes-Barre Area Manager.
Very active in the community, he was a member of St. Jude's Church and served as Chairman of the former Mercy Hospital. President of both the Wilkes-Barre Lions Club and the Wyoming Valley Country Club.  He  also served on the founding board of the Kirby Center.  Other board affiliations included Blue Cross of NEPA, Wilkes-Barre; Chamber of Commerce and the Hospital Trustee Association of PA. In recognition of his community service, he was named "Man of the Year" in 1990 by the Wilkes-Barre Lions Club.
George is survived by his wife of 61 years, Sheila Maughan Stozenski, son, George and his wife, Carolyn of Montville, NJ; daughter, Lisa Dagit and her husband, John of Boothwyn, PA; grandchildren, John and Holly Dagit and William and Ethan Stozenski; several nieces and nephews.  His only brother, Jack, died in 2020.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, November 23, 2021 at 11:00 am in St. Jude's Church, Mountain Top.  Interment with Military Honors will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, Hanover Township.
Friends are invited to join the family for a visitation on Monday, November 22, 2021 from 4 to 6 pm and again Tuesday morning, at the church, at 10:00 am.

Obituary Preview: JoAnn Marie Rinehimer Kotarsky, 47, of Mountain Top, passed away Saturday, November 6, 2021, at home with family by her side.
Born in Berwick, she was the daughter of John H. and Joan E. Myers Rinehimer of Mountain Top and was a graduate of Crestwood High School, Class of 1992, and Luzerne County Community College, Class of 1994, with an Associates Degree in Dental Hygiene. JoAnn worked as a Dental Hygienist for Dr. Johns, Dr. Biscotti, and Dr. Foster, all of Mountain Top and was a member of Emmanuel United Church of Christ, Dorrance. She enjoyed camping, and loved to travel, especially to Ocean City, MD. Her most cherished time was spending it with family. She always looked forward to Sunday afternoons when family would gather for coffee.
Left to cherish her memory, in addition to her parents Joan and John, is her loving husband of 27 years, Jeffrey E. Kotarsky; children, Bradley and Samantha Kotarsky; sister, Jennifer (Michael) Palubinski of Skippack, PA; sister in-law Cher Simon of Bloomsburg who she was most close with; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Funeral service will be held on Friday, November 12, 2021 at 10:30 am in the Emmanuel United Church of Christ, Dorrance. Interment will follow in Emmanuel Dorrance Cemetery.
Friends are invited to join the family for a visitation Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Desiderio-Lehman Funeral Home, 436 S. Mountain Blvd., Mountain Top, and Friday morning, from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service at the church. Born in Brooklyn, New York, on January 20, 1946, he was the son of the late John and Helen Mesaros Senghaas. John was a graduate of Meyers High School, Class of 1963; Wilkes-Barre Business College in 1965 and University of Baltimore in 1968.
Prior to retiring, he was employed by Keystone Automotive, Exeter and Mercy Hospital (Geisinger South Wilkes-Barre) as a patient transporter in the Radiology Department. John was a member of St. Jude's Church on Mountain Top.
He was an avid reader of hardcover books, which were later donated to local libraries, loved everything chocolate and he really enjoyed a good cup of coffee.  He was a devoted fan of the Penn State Nittany Lions, the Pittsburgh Penguins, the Wilkes-Barre Scranton Penguins and the Philadelphia Phillies.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Barbara Redding; his best friend, Mark Eastwood; his furry companions.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley Tokach Senghaas; beloved daughter, Courtney Senghaas (Biagio Manganiello); cherished granddaughter, Amara; cousins, friends and neighbors.
The Senghaas Family extends their sincere thanks and gratitude to the staff and nurses of the Hospice of the Sacred Heart, Dunmore for their compassionate care during John's illness.

Born in Wilkes-Barre, he was the son of the late Cornelius and Margaret Lewis Reilly and was a graduate of St. James High School and earned his Bachelors and Masters Degrees in Chemistry and Physical Science from West Chester University. He served his country proudly in the United States Navy, on the MSO leader, ship known as an Ocean Minesweeper. He did two tours in Vietnam and was the recipient of the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal and the Vietnam Campaign Medal. Prior to retirement, David was an AP Chemistry Teacher in the Downingtown Area School. He was a member of St. Jude's Church, VFW and was very interested in genealogy and his Irish Heritage. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, but mostly spending time with his family and grand kids. During his younger years, he was very active in sports, coaching football, track, girls basketball and wrestling and was a fan for many years of Villanova Men's Basketball.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded by his sister, Dorothy Walrath.
Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife, Doreen Yankosky Reilly; daughter, Coleen (William) Wickman; son, Neil (Alexis) Reilly; grandsons, Andrew and Jackson Wickman; granddaughters, Reese and Norah Wickman, Abigael and Evelyn Reilly; brothers, Thomas (Judy) Reilly and Joseph (Colleen) Reilly; sister, Gloria (Robert) Bowden and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was an at home school advocate; homeschooling her seven children and others in ancient history and science. When not hugging others, she loved being a Mom and Grandmother. She loved traveling, canning food, gardening, arts and crafts and reading about history.
She is survived by her husband, Rev. Dale Mooney: sons: Derek Joshua (Joanna) Mooney of Brunswick, MD; Michael Allan (Brittany) Mooney, of Fairmont, WV; Patrick Donegal (Katherine) Mooney of San Diego, CA; daughters: Shaundra Lynn Allen of Mt. He was preceded in death by his parents, son Rodney M. Smith and brothers: James, George and Thomas Smith; sisters Elizabeth, Myrtle and Mary.

Donna was fearless in her battle, facing every struggle with a smile and a sense of humor, continuing to express her love for her family and faithful friends.
The oldest daughter of Basil (Tony) Desiderio and the late Karla Richardson Desiderio, Donna graduated from Crestwood High School and Luzerne County Community College. For 27 years, she was employed as an Administrative Assistant at First Hospital.
Donna loved simple things: her home and pets, Potenza, Indie and Lacha, hiking and travel, the Atlanta Braves and the tiny mementos she discovered in unlikely places. However, it was her cherished circle of friends and family that she loved the most. Donna was a  warm and gracious woman who possessed a unique mix of good humor, kindness and joy that encouraged people to engage with her. Although she did not have her own children, becoming an aunt to her niece and nephew, Elena and Jack, was one of the most meaningful moments of her life. Her family and her many friends will miss her more than words can express, but also know that her memory will be a blessing carried for a lifetime.
Donna was preceded in death by her mother, Karla, two infant brothers, grandparents, Joseph and Antoinette Desiderio, James and Lillian Richardson, uncle Frank Trybulski and cousin Francis Trybulski. She is survived by her father and primary caregiver, Tony and his wife Mary Ann, sister, Laura Berti, and beloved niece and nephew, Elena and Jack Berti. Donna will also be missed by her longtime partner, Mark Jamieson, aunts and uncles Karen Wickkiser, Madeline Trybulski, Jim and Glenn Richardson as well as many cousins. She also leaves behind her closest friends, Robin Crawford, Tina Carpinello, Maria Merlie and Louann Haydock, all of whom were by her side throughout her illness.

She was a graduate of the Academy of Saint Aloysius in Jersey City, then attended LCCC in Nanticoke for her associate degree in nursing and later received her Bachelor’s and Master's Degree in nursing at College Misericordia. She worked at the old Mercy Hospital in Wilkes-Barre for many years, and continued her career at her Alumni of LCCC as a professor of nursing. She has helped many along the way and has made her mark on so many of the nurses and medical professionals in our area. She loved to spend most of her time with her loving children and grandchildren, especially at the beach. Her hobbies were crocheting, decorating for all of the holidays to make them special for her family, baking everyone’s favorites, playing cards, and traveling. Sandy was known to do anything for anyone. She was very generous to many local charitable organizations not only with her time, but with anything that was needed.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Edward Dondzila.
She is survived by her husband, John Hollock and daughters: Jessica Hollock of Florida; Heather (Eric) Bleiler of Mountain Top; Sarah (Tim) Johnson of Texas and son, Eli (Alicia) Hollock of Yardley; and the loves of her life, her grandchildren: Dakota, Xavier, Alexis, Maximus, Paxton, Skylar, Cooper, Decker, Ellianna, and Esme. She also has many loving family members, a sister, nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and former co-workers.
