Clifford Stanley Dillard - Unknown - February 16, 2023

Departed: 02/16/2023 (Bullhead City)
Obituary Preview: The Patriarch of our family, everything he ever did, was with his family in mind. Cliff led by example and was our greatest mentor. Clifford was a devoted husband, a loving father and grandfather and as hard working as they come.
A miner with his Dad and his brothers in the early years, as well as a heavy equipment truck driver, working with his brother Edwin before he left Wickenburg, Az. for the big city life, in California, where he met his wife Joyce and started his family. Just two days after his daughter Judith Joyce was born, he was drafted into the U.S Army. While stationed in Germany, he was assigned to artillery and later worked as an MP at Fort MacArthur, in San Pedro, Ca. His military accomplishments include the National Defense Service medal
and Expert Qualified badge, as well as the Army Occupational medal for his time in Germany, during the end of the Korean War.
Upon returning to the states, while stationed in Ft. MacArthur, their son Kenneth Clifford was born in 1954. Cliff worked as a welder in California before entering the Boilermakers Union in 1955.
In 1963 their family grew again, welcoming Cherlyn Kae and Kathryn Marie. His little family of four grew to a family of six and Cliff continued working hard to provide for his family, sometimes working as many as three jobs to put food on the table for his beautiful family.
In 1968 he started commuting to Bullhead City, Az. to work at the Mohave Generating Station. By 1970 Joyce and the the family joined him to live at Lake Mohave, where the family spent several years enjoying boating and skiing until Cliff and Joyce bought a 10-acre ranch in Fort Mohave.
Cliff enjoyed his retirement years, always finding projects around the farm to keep him busy, spending more time at home with his grandchildren and wife. He got a kick out of teaching each of the grandkids how to drive "Old Red" (his tractor) and taking them for drives to the hardware store.
He took pride in building a home on the ranch for his Mother and Father in-law, so they could be nearby, and helped his wife, Joyce, with caring for both of them until their passing. It wasn't long before Joyce's health also took a turn and there couldn't have been a more doting husband. Nurses who came to the house often commented on the things he would construct to make things easier on his "sweetheart".
Fate brought Joyce and Cliff together after meeting one summer afternoon at a public pool in Bell Gardens, Ca. The young couple created a life they loved, and he cherished his time at home with her and the kids. When Joyce passed in 2008 Cliff took up an unlikely hobby that kept him busy outdoors. He found a love for gardening, which he enjoyed very much, as well as spending time being in the front row at his great grandchildren's sporting events and playing Chess with his son and grandsons.
We are confident that if you knew Cliff, every memory you have of him was a good one. He was always joking and making his friends and family laugh. He enjoyed being surrounded by family and friends.
Our family is incredibly lost without him, and his fun-loving spirit. Although he lived nearly 92 years, to us it was still too soon. He will forever be one of the strongest and smartest men we've ever had the pleasure of knowing.
After a very special Valentines Day, surrounded by family and playing games with his great- great Granddaughter, he left us peacefully, on February 16th, knowing how loved he was by his family.
We are confident that he is reunited with his loving wife of 56 years, Joyce. Preceded in death by his wife, Leola Joyce Dillard Clifford is survived by his loving family: Judith & Larry Dietrich, Kenneth Dillard, Tonya McKnight & Jimmy Hibbard, Ashton Draper, Korbyn Draper, Mario and Easton Rabanales, Cheri & David Smith, Tammara & Sheldon Hoyt, Elijah, Noah and Leah Tabatha, Jarred Blount and Drake Kathryn & Phillip Harris, Tyler & Shawna Boatwright, Ocean, Brooke and Lucy Terry & Brittany Boatwright, Aiden and Harper

Carrie Frances Croatt-Moore - Unknown - December 05, 2022

Departed: 12/05/2022 (Bullhead City)
Obituary Preview: The Croatt and Moore families announce the passing of Carrie Frances Croatt-Moore, 48, on December 5, 2022 in Lake Havasu City, AZ
Carrie was born May 17, 1974 in Sibley, Iowa to Dennis and Mary (Shea) Croatt. She spent her early years in Bigelow, MN and the Northwest Iowa towns of Hospers, Granville, and Paullina. She was a 1992 graduate of South O'Brien High School in Paullina. After graduation she enrolled at Briar Cliff University in Sioux City, where she completed a Bachelor of Science degree with an emphasis in Microbiology in 1996.
While enrolled at Briar Cliff, Carrie met her husband, Aaron, in the Fall of 1993. They were married in Sioux City at the Cathedral of the Epiphany on June 21, 1997. Carrie and Aaron spent the first three years of their marriage in Sioux City where Carrie was employed in the St. Luke's Health System Nursing Library before moving to Emporia, KS in 2000, where Carrie opted to pursue her advanced degree as a Master of Library Science with Emporia State University. After she earned her MLS degree, Carrie and Aaron moved to Detroit, MI where Carrie took positions with the Detroit Public Library as a Librarian I, followed by a position as Librarian II in the Science and Engineering Library of Wayne State University, Detroit. Carrie's love of Science and education drove her to serve the Wayne State and Detroit communities, serving with numerous organizations and on myriad committees while traveling the United States, presenting on academic librarianship.
Carrie and Aaron welcomed their two beautiful children, Madeline and Anthony, into the world while living in Detroit. Carrie spent the kids' early years as their mother caring for their needs and taking great joy celebrating their many academic achievements and extra-curricular activities. She was always dedicated to their happiness and health as a first priority and loved being "Mom" in every way.
In 2011, Carrie took a position with Boise State University in Boise, ID where she served out her academic career, with her final role serving as Assistant Dean of the Albertson's Library. The Croatt-Moore family, greatly inspired by Carrie's love of all things and her strength, lived the next 10 years in Boise exploring Idaho and beyond while raising Madeline and Anthony.
Carrie semi-retired from academia in 2019, to focus her energy on serving as a full-time care provider for her son, Anthony, working in tandem with Aaron as they dedicated the next phase of their life together to caring for Anthony's needs as a cognitively impaired special needs person.
Carrie loved to travel. Her favorite travel highlights were the several journeys she took with her family to the corners of the United Kingdom and Canada. In November of 2021 the 4 members of the Croatt-Moore family chose to travel the United States for eighteen months, focusing their travels on fulfilling their goal of visiting the national parks and monuments of the USA while seeking out regional experiences along the way. Carrie and the family enjoyed taking in the sights in many never-before seen and quirky places in the US, but they especially enjoyed their bonding time together as a family: cooking, baking, playing games, hiking, walking, bike riding, singing, or relaxing around a campfire.
Carrie was known for her light, energy, beauty, and laughter. She always approached the world with kindness and love, and gave every person the gifts of her smile and her joy. She was graceful, tactful, unassuming, and unselfish. She loved food and especially enjoyed cooking, grilling, and baking at home. She loved gathering with friends and relatives to socialize, and the quiet evenings spent with her immediate family. It is an understatement to say Carrie was a renaissance person, as she tried many new things that took her interest. She often said with a smile, "I can't tell you what I want or what I like. I can only tell you what I don't want or I don't like." This is the result of her love of trying many things and trying as many new things as possible. As she would say to Madeline and Anthony, "Try it once. If you don't like it, you don't have to try it again. But you have to try it once; so you know."
Those who celebrate the life of Carrie include: Aaron, Madeline, and Anthony Moore of Boise, ID. Her dearly loved brothers: Nathan (Jen) Croatt of Cloverdale IA, Joshua (Ashley) Croatt of Hospers, IA, and Matthew (Jodi) Croatt of Glenwood, IA; her Croatt nieces and nephews, with whom she always cherished time spent; her beloved aunts, uncles, and cousins form the Croatt and Shea families; her mother-in-law, Anne (Bob) Moore of Boise; her sister-in-law, Kendra, of Norman OK; the many members of her extended in-laws of the Folchert, Lukowski, and Moore families, and her vast network of adored friends she acquired over her years on this earth. She was preceded in death by her mother and father, Mary and Dennis Croatt of Granville and her maternal and paternal grandparents, Roman and Vivian Shea, and Jane and Dave Croatt.
Per Carrie's wishes, Carrie will be cremated and a portion of her cremains will be laid to rest with her parents following a Catholic funeral mass during a memorial service planned for the Spring of 2023.
Offerings of condolence can be arranged with the Croatt and Moore families. carriecroattmoorememorial

Hazel Ward - Unknown - April 27, 2022

Departed: 04/27/2022 (Bullhead City)
Obituary Preview: Hazel Marie Ward, who passed away on April 27, 2022 in Prescott, AZ, was a 68 year resident of Bullhead City, AZ. Born in Checotah, OK on May 6, 1932, Hazel moved to Arizona as a young woman where she would meet Ralph "Jack" Ward at a dance hall near Picacho Peak. Jack was a lineman and they moved with the powerline as it was built. Living in Prescott, AZ in 1949-1950, they moved to Bullhead City in 1951 where she remained until 2019 when she
moved to Prescott to be with her son and his family during her final years. Hazel was a devoted mother of three boys, Allen, Dean, and Robert, and a loving grandmother to Kelly Anne and Jack Ryan. An adventurer and world traveler, Hazel joined her husband Jack on a number of African safaris and became renowned for being the last American woman to take the African Big 5. Her pursuits were memorialized in several well-known books on African hunting. Hazel deeply enjoyed travel and she hunted and explored every continent except for
Antarctica. While at home in Bullhead City, Hazel was an avid golfer and spent many of her days on the Chaparral Golf Course where she won numerous awards over the years. It was on that golf course at Hole 9 where she received the news that the "stork had arrived" and her third adopted
son, Robert, who was 3 days old, had arrived after being flown home by the Oehlers. Hazel loved motherhood and spent her time artifact hunting, camping, shooting, and exploring with all of her sons. She is fondly referred to as "Bugs" by her brother James, who likened her and Jack as being like Elmer Fudd and Bugs Bunny. She was the action behind many of Jack's
ideas and kept the books for their many businesses and land developments over the years. Her laugh was infectious and frequent throughout her days. She found joy in everything she did from playing cards at the club, to learning how to fly, but most of all, in playing with her two grandchildren who she nicknamed "her little man" and "her princess." Just a few days shy of 90 years old, Hazel's life embodies a life well lived and at the end she was ready to go home to be
in heaven with her husband, Jack, and her sons, Dean and Allen. Hazel is survived by her brothers, James and Bill Kellog, and by her son, Robert, and his wife
Anne Marie, and their children, Kelly Anne and Jack Ryan. Hazel's service will take place at 10:00am on Friday, May 13 at the Desert Lawn Funeral Home

Frequently Asked Questions

What is an obituary?

An obituary is a written notice that announces the death of a person, typically including biographical information, accomplishments, and details about their life. It is usually published in a newspaper, online obituary platform, or funeral home website to inform friends, family, and community members of the passing.

Why are obituaries important?

Obituaries serve as a way to honor and celebrate the life of the deceased, while also providing important information to those who knew them. They help to notify others of the passing, share details about the funeral or memorial service, and provide a sense of closure for those grieving.

Who typically writes an obituary?

In most cases, the family of the deceased or a close friend will write the obituary. However, some funeral homes or obituary writers may offer assistance with writing and publishing the obituary.

What information should be included in an obituary?

A typical obituary includes the person's name, age, date of birth and death, cause of death (optional), surviving family members, accomplishments, hobbies, and details about their life. It may also include information about the funeral or memorial service.

How long should an obituary be?

The length of an obituary can vary depending on the publication or platform. Generally, it should be concise and to the point, ranging from a few sentences to a few paragraphs.

Can I include photos in an obituary?

Yes, many online obituary platforms and funeral home websites allow you to upload photos of the deceased. This can help to personalize the obituary and provide a visual tribute to their life.

How do I submit an obituary to a newspaper?

Contact the newspaper's obituary department directly to inquire about their submission process and any specific requirements they may have. Be prepared to provide the necessary information and payment for publication.

Can I write my own obituary in advance?

Yes, some people choose to write their own obituary in advance as a way to ensure that their life is represented accurately and authentically. This can also be a therapeutic exercise in reflecting on one's life and accomplishments.

How much does it cost to publish an obituary?

The cost of publishing an obituary varies depending on the publication, location, and length of the obituary. Expect to pay anywhere from $50 to several hundred dollars for publication in a newspaper or online platform.

Can I edit an obituary after it's been published?

In some cases, it may be possible to make minor corrections or edits to an obituary after it's been published. However, this is not always possible, especially if it has already been printed in a newspaper.

How long do online obituaries remain available?

The duration that an online obituary remains available varies depending on the platform or website. Some may keep them archived indefinitely, while others may remove them after a certain period of time.

Can I include quotes or poems in an obituary?

Yes, including meaningful quotes or poems can add a personal touch to an obituary and provide comfort to those grieving.

Should I include the cause of death in an obituary?

This is optional and depends on your personal preference. Including the cause of death can provide closure for some, but may be too sensitive for others.

How do I notify people about an upcoming funeral or memorial service?

In addition to including this information in the obituary, you can also use social media, email, or phone calls to notify friends and family members about the service.

Can I include charitable donations in lieu of flowers?

Yes, many families choose to include this option in the obituary as a way to honor their loved one's memory and support a meaningful cause.

How do I handle condolences and sympathy messages?

You can include contact information in the obituary for those who wish to send condolences or flowers. You may also consider setting up a memorial page or guestbook online for people to leave messages.

What is a death notice versus an obituary?

A death notice is a brief announcement of someone's passing, typically including only basic information such as name, age, and date of death. An obituary provides more detailed information about the person's life and accomplishments.

Can I write an anonymous obituary?

In general, it's not recommended to write an anonymous obituary. Obituaries are meant to be a public tribute to someone's life, and anonymity may detract from their significance.

How do I find old obituaries?

You can search online archives of newspapers or genealogy websites that specialize in collecting historical records. Local libraries or historical societies may also have archives of old newspapers that you can access.

Can I reprint an old obituary?

If you're reprinting an old obituary for personal use or as part of a family history project, you generally don't need permission. However, if you plan to reprint it publicly or commercially, you may need to obtain permission from the original publisher or copyright holder.

What is a living obituary?

A living obituary is a biographical sketch written about someone while they are still alive. This can be done as a way to celebrate their life achievements or as part of a legacy project.

Can I include humor in an obituary?

Absolutely! Humor can be a wonderful way to capture someone's personality and spirit in an obituary. Just be sure to keep it respectful and tasteful.

How do I proofread an obituary before publication?

Carefully review the text for accuracy, spelling errors, and grammar mistakes. Ask multiple people to review it as well before submitting it for publication.

Can I update an online obituary with new information?

In many cases, yes. Online platforms often allow you to edit or update an existing obituary with new information or photos.

What is the difference between an obituary and a eulogy?

An obituary is a written notice announcing someone's passing and providing biographical information. A eulogy is a spoken tribute delivered at a funeral or memorial service that celebrates the person's life and shares personal anecdotes.
