Beverly Ruberg Burgess - Unknown - April 12, 2024

Departed: 04/12/2024 (Pittsfield)
Obituary Preview: Beverly Ruberg Burgess,79, passed away at home in Pittsfield on April 12, 2024. She was born in Eltingville, Staten Island, NY, the daughter of Signy Gudrun Ruberg (Hansen) and Roy Edward Ruberg. From an early age she cherished friendships and counted a number of her lifelong friends from the neighborhood in which she grew up.
She attended Tottenville HS and upon graduation, Mary Beyers School in Manhattan. Her first job was with Morgan Guarantee Trust Company. After she married Donald A Burgess on January 21, 1967, the couple lived first in Brookline, Mass., then in Syracuse NY and later 46 years in Needham, Mass.
Beverly worked for over 37 years rising to financial manager at Government Systems Corporation, a subsidiary of GTE until 2000, when it was sold to General Dynamics. She retired in 2010. Early in her career she graduated from Bentley College (AS, accounting 1979, and BS, management 1982).
Bev was a generous hostess, noted for her great cooking skills, creating meals to treasure, learned from her grandmother and mother. She often cooked the family dinner starting when she was 10. Her baking ability was legendary in her family notably especially her Christmas trifle, Norwegian waffles and krumkaker Christmas cookies. When not at home, Beverly enjoyed traveling to visit friends, both old and new.
Having lived in Syracuse during her early marriage, Bev was well acquainted with the wildest of snowstorms (209 inches the first year). Driving in bad weather did not deter her travel. She loved to celebrate the Christmas holidays with family, always arriving like Santa…on time and laden with colorful bundles.
Reflecting her good taste, Beverly enjoyed touring museums, attending theater, the symphony and all that The Berkshires had to offer. Every January she would also spend a full week in NYC catching up on current offerings. It was no coincidence that these mini vacations were timed with New York’s Restaurant Week. She was known to research both old and new restaurants and took the demise of an old favorite as an opening to try something new and potentially exciting.
Travel was a pleasurable part of Beverly’s retirement years. Cruises to Scandinavia, the vistas of Northern Lights and the Mediterranean among others were times of full enjoyment. There were also many other excursions to visit family and friends that Bev undertook, crisscrossing the US to the west coast and back.
Of special note were 52 years of summer vacations at Eagle Camp on Grand Isle, Vermont. Bev could easily be found either playing a round of (unique!) golf croquet, reading the latest adventure novel or sharing her cabin’s porch—along with a cup of coffee—with her many camp friends. Beverly found serving on the Board of Directors at Eagle Camp for a 9 year term highly rewarding.
Beverly served for 5 years as a member of the board of Directors of the residential community, The Pines at Bousquet Condominiums, as it transferred from the control of the developer.
Beverly is survived by her beloved husband of 57 years, Donald A. Burgess of Pittsfield; her brother, Ronald Ruberg and wife Elizabeth “Beth” of Fair Haven, NJ; a niece Melanie and two nephews, David and Daniel.
