Henrietta Jeane Shallenberger - April 18, 1932 - April 08, 2024

Departed: 04/08/2024 (Loves Park)
Obituary Preview: Henrietta Jeane Shallenberger, 91, of Rockton, IL, passed away peacefully at her home on Monday, April 8, 2024, surrounded by her loving family and her sweet dog, Sam, who never left her side, or her feet.
Born April 18, 1932, in Rockford, IL, Jeane was the daughter of William Alfred and Leota Murrial (Froh) Schwenk.  She proudly graduated from Harlem High School, Class of 1950.  She was a dedicated member of Willow Creek Presbyterian Church in Argyle, IL, and worked for Dr. Phillip Dupont and Dr. Sung Chow, at the same clinic for 40 years.  After her retirement, at the age of 80, she then volunteered at the local elementary school, where she helped students with reading.
Jeane was full of love and energy, raising eight children:  Jody Peavler, Betsy (Tom) Oswald, Ted (Jean) Shallenberger, John Shallenberger, Dann Shallenberger, Jamie (Doug) Powell, Joy (Steve) Langley, and Joshua Johnson.
She adored her many grandchildren and their spouses:  Jessie (Austin) Crow, Maggie (Nick) Oswald Sandquist, Kelsie (Andrew) Burns, Allison (Craig) Nenneman, Amy (Jason) Madel, Elijah (Hannah) Shallenberger, Dylan (Gardenia) Shallenberger, Matthew Shallenberger, and Mandi Shallenberger, along with her numerous great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Throughout her life, Jeane cherished her friendships, including special bonds with Becky Aylesworth and Marilyn & Jerry Johnson.  She will be remembered for her warmth and kindness, always there with a listening ear or a comforting word.
She is predeceased by her parents; her former husband of 32 years, Fred Shallenberger; son, Ted; brothers, Joseph Schwenk and John Schwenk; grandchildren, Zachary Peavler and Casey Peavler; sisters-in-law, Ruth Corning and Virginia Schwenk; close friends of 80+ years who became family, Ruth & Bob Hughes.
Jeane’s spirit of community extended beyond her family and friends.  She served as a Deacon at Willow Creek Presbyterian Church and dedicated many years as an election judge in Loves Park.  She was a firm believer in the importance of participation and encouraged her children and grandchildren to pursue their passions, whether it was sports, music, school, or theater.  She showed up for everything - concerts, football games, baseball and softball games, swim meets, dance recitals, plays and any other event big or small.
In her free time, Jeane found joy in reading and cheering on her favorite sports teams and athletes, especially in football and golf.  Her love for life was infectious, and she brought her brightness (and potato salad or noodles) to every gathering she attended.  Her phone rang all day long as she stayed connected to friends and family near and far.  For many years she had a monthly potluck with her nurse’s training friends and monthly lunches with her girlfriends from high school.  She could tell you every detail about her great-grandchildren’s lives.  She never wanted to miss an important moment in the life of someone she loved.  She loved to travel, even in her 90s, and usually found her way to warmer weather once a year.
A celebration of Jeane’s life will take place at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 11, 2024, at Willow Creek Presbyterian Church, located at 7300 Belvidere Road, Caledonia, IL, with visitation to be held from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service.  Arrangements are entrusted to Delehanty Funeral Home, 401 River Lane, Loves Park, IL.

Obituary Preview: Nancy Ann Humpal, 79, formerly of Loves Park, IL, of Wauwatosa, WI, passed on to eternal life with our Blessed Lord on Saturday, March 23, 2024, in her home after a long battle with cancer.  Born August 20, 1944, in Rockford, IL, the daughter of Raymond P. and Mary Alice (Govern) Humpal.  Nancy attended St. James Catholic School and later was in the first graduating class at St. Bridget Catholic School.  She graduated from Bishop Muldoon High School just in time to begin a life of adventure and “Fun”!  Just for “Fun”, while in high school she entered and won a hula hoop contest that led to a video appearance on American Bandstand.  After graduation, Nancy eagerly got a job as a legal aid that afforded her the opportunity to buy brand new “Fun” sports cars including a 1962 Corvair Monza, a 1965 Ford Mustang, a 1969 Pontiac Firebird and several more over the years.  Songs from Elvis, Frank, Tony, and Liza blared from the speakers as she tooled down the road for “Fun”.  Her inquisitive and spunky nature led her on many an adventure, just for “Fun”.  Whether venturing out to California to check out the surfing scene, exploring in Jamaica, watching a circus parade or jaunts to the north woods of Wisconsin.  It was always just for fun.  Always the life of the party, Nancy planned many family gatherings, including making homemade films.  She adored her five brothers, and continually coerced them to perform in various skits and dances at her ‘Parties’.  Despite the protests of “her boys” as she called them, they always complied.  After all it was just for “Fun”.  She loved her sports too: Bears, Packers, and of course her guy, Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs.  Parties were to Nancy just an extension of the way she lived life, and boy, did she live.  Nancy was always upbeat and always cared about others.  She was that beautiful Irish rose that stood out in a field of flowers.  You couldn't help but like Nancy, her smile and gregarious personality were infectious to all whom had the privilege to meet her.  She “ran the great race, finished the course, kept the faith” all for the love of her Savior, Jesus Christ.  She is survived by her beloved brothers, Patrick (Mary Ellen), Thomas (Julie), Timothy (Carmen), James (Mary), and William (Mary Jo); and she was the favorite aunt for many nieces and nephews.  Nancy was predeceased by her parents, Raymond and Mary Alice Humpal.  Grateful appreciation from the family is extended to all of Nancy’s wonderful friends, medical staff and family members who supported Nancy in her final journey.

Why are obituaries important?

Obituaries serve as a way to inform friends, family, and community members of a person's passing, allowing them to pay their respects and offer condolences. They also provide a lasting tribute to the deceased, preserving their memory and legacy.

Who writes an obituary?

Typically, a family member or close friend of the deceased writes the obituary. In some cases, a funeral home or newspaper may assist with writing the obituary or provide guidelines for its composition.

What information should be included in an obituary?

A standard obituary should include the person's full name, age, date of birth and death, place of residence, and details about their survivors (spouse, children, grandchildren, etc.). It may also include information about their occupation, hobbies, achievements, and any notable contributions they made during their lifetime.

How long should an obituary be?

The length of an obituary can vary depending on the publication or online platform it will be published on. Generally, it should be concise and to the point, ranging from 100 to 500 words.

How do I submit an obituary to a newspaper or online platform?

The submission process varies depending on the publication or platform. Some newspapers have online forms or email addresses where you can submit your obituary, while others may require you to contact them directly. Be sure to check their specific guidelines before submitting.
