Obituary Preview: Jack R. Daugherty, 82, of Farmersville, IL, formerly of Sunset and Otter Lake, passed away Wednesday afternoon, April 10, 2024, at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield, IL.
Jack was born on February 5, 1942, to Clarence and Alice (Nagel) Daugherty in Honey Bend, IL.
Jack graduated from Lanphire High School with the class of 1960. In 1961 Jack married Kay (Combs) Long, and they later divorced, and then in 1980, he married Peggy (Lafferty) Giles, and they later divorced.
Jack owned and operated several businesses in the Girard and Palmyra areas. He was most noted for his restaurant in Girard, The Grub and Pub. He was also owner of The Old #7 Tavern in Palmyra and Daugherty's Corner Tavern in Morrisonville. Jack also owned the Gents Only clothing store in Girard. After his retirement, Jack bartended at K and K Tavern in Virden. He was definitely a people person, and always had a smile.
Jack loved watching racing, and was a proud member of the 50 Year Race Club at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, having attended the Indy 500 for 53 years. He also enjoyed and sponsored sprint car racing.
Jack is survived by his daughter, Kelly (Kelly) Sonneborn of Girard, IL; two sons, Jacob (Misha) Daugherty of Orange City, NJ, and Patrick (Mallory) Daugherty of Virden, IL; Four grandchildren, Kaylee Sonneborn, Kenzie (Justin) Sonneborn, Kenadi (Adam) Sonneborn, and Rhoades Daugherty; a great-grandchild, Stevie J. Naugle; two sisters, Carol (Howard) McDermott of Monticello, IA, and Sharon Graham of Springfield, IL; brother, Joe (Julie) Daugherty of Sherman, IL; several nieces and nephews.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence H. and Alice R. Daugherty, brother, Bernard Daugherty, and his nephew, Allen Daugherty.
Visitation will be held Thursday, April 18, 2024, from 3:00 pm - 7:00 pm at the Girard Community Center, located on the south side of the square in Girard, IL. A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, April 21, 2024, at 3:00 pm at the K+K Tavern, located at 280 E. Jackson in Virden, IL

Obituary Preview: Audrey Regina Kates, 93 of Carlinville, IL, passed away Friday, April 5, 2024, at Carlinville Rehab and Health Care in Carlinville, IL.
Audrey was born June 7, 1930, in Carlinville, IL, a daughter of Charles and Genevieve (Schaefer) Rhodes. Audrey graduated from Gillespie High with the class of 1948. After high school she married Herman T. Rugel, and he passed away in August of 1967. On October 14, 1970, she married Robert W. Kates in Carlinville, he survives.
She loved creating ceramic works of art and especially at Christmas, of which Christmas trees were her specialty.
Audrey enjoyed playing cards with her friends and was a part of the hand and foot card club for many years. Audrey's work career was both as a bookkeeper and secretary for F and M Bank for several years. She would then put that knowledge to great use at the Carlinville Chamber of Commerce. Counting numbers and counting cards were similar skills she excelled in, which led her to flourish in both her work and in winning hands with her friends.
Audrey loved her religion and church dearly. She was a loyal and proud member of Ss Mary and Joseph Catholic Church, where she was involved in the Catholic Daughters and Forever Friends. But even before her faith lay her family, whom she cherished with all her heart, from her children to her great-great grandchildren, from her siblings, here and passed to her plentiful nieces and nephews.
Audrey was preceded in death by her parents, 1st husband, Herman T. Rugel; daughter, Karen Rosentreter; sister, Kathleen Harms; brothers: Emmitt, Dale, and Wayne Rhodes; and granddaughter, Andrea Sonneborn.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 9, 2024, from 9:30-11:00 am at Ss Mary and Joseph Catholic Church, Carlinville, IL.
Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 11:00 am, Tuesday, April 9, 2024 at Ss Mary and Joseph Catholic Church, Carlinville, IL, with Fr. Leon Martin officiating.
Burial will follow in New Calvary Cemetery, Carlinville, IL.
Audrey is survived by her husband, Robert W. Kates of Carlinville, IL, son, Gary A. (Dena Marie) Rugel of Scottsdale, AZ, daughter, Sandy Trump (John Kahl) of Carlinville, IL, brother, Loren (Rosemarie) Rhodes of Carlinville, IL, 4 grandchildren; Jenni McDowell, Kate (Brett) Coleman, Kelli Trump, Matt (Stephanie) Rosentreter, 6 great grandchildren, 3 great-great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Thomas Elmore - December 06, 1960 - April 05, 2024

Obituary Preview: Thomas Richard Elmore, 63, of Chatham, IL, formerly of Farmersville, IL passed away Friday, April 5, 2024 at St. John's Hospital in Springfield, IL.
Thomas was born on December 6, 1960 to Robert and Betty (Luce) Elmore in Springfield, IL.
Tom was a 1979 graduate of Raymond-Lincolnwood High School, and then graduated from DeVry Institute of Technology in Chicago with a B.S.E.E.T. degree. He was an honor student and a member of NU DELTA Chapter of PAU ALPHA PI. He started his working career for Honeywell Corporation (Alliant Techsystems, Inc.) in 1984 in Minneapolis Minnesota as an electronics engineer and then moved back home in 1994 where he then worked as the director of engineering for DICKEY-john Corporation in Auburn and took over the family farm in Farmersville. After 16 years at DICKEY-john, he retired and farmed full time.
Thomas was a member of New Life Family Church in Auburn, a board member of the Montgomery County Farm Bureau, and served on the Farmersville Township Board for several years. He enjoyed fast cars and owned a 1969 Plymouth GTX. He loved to travel and took his family on many trips, with Cancun being their favorite destination. He also enjoyed shooting and collecting guns, and had a special bond with his German Sheppard dogs.
Thomas is survived by his wife Donna, two daughters, Alexandra N. Elmore of Farmersville and Amber L. (Walter) Jarvis of Famersville; sister, Barb Jean (Chuck) Pearson of Wheatfield, IN, and several nieces and nephews.
Thomas was preceded in death by parents, Robert and Betty Elmore, and his brother, Bob Elmore.
Visitation will be held Thursday, April 11, 2024, from 4:00 pm - 7:00 pm at Davis-Anderson Funeral Home, 226 N. 3rd Street, Girard, IL.
Private Funeral services will be held on Friday, April 12, 2024, with Pastor Larry Griffith and Pastor Tony Sale officiating.
Burial will take place in the Rovey Cemetery in Farmersville, IL.

Robert was born September 10, 1936, in Loneport, KY, a son of Catte Watkins. He married Linda Fultz on July 18, 1978, in Girard, IL.
Robert's friends called him "Roob". He drove a truck for Prairie Farms and was a mechanic most of his life and could fix just about anything. Robert enjoyed watching ballgames. Everyone that knew him would say he had a spunky personality.
Robert was preceded in death by his mother, Catte Watkins, and spouse, Linda Watkins. Burial will follow at a later date in Girard Cemetery, Girard, IL
Robert is survived by his son, Joseph (Annette) Watkins of Deltona, FL, daughter, Diann (Jim) Opremchak of Auburn, IL, and son, Kendal (Angela) Watkins of Port Orange, FL, 5 grandchildren, brother, John (Mary Lou) Lutz of Girard, IL, and sister, Ruby (Larry) Baker of Girard, IL.

John was a member of the US Marine Corps and served in Vietnam. He was awarded a Purple Heart. John was a laborer and retired from Alladin Steel, Carlinville, IL, in 2013. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was a backyard mechanic and loved woodworking. He will be greatly missed by those who knew him. John was preceded in death by his son, Jason Pocklington, granddaughter, Michelle Baker, father, James Edward Thomas Pocklington, mother, Allie Marie Pocklington, siblings, Geraldine, James, Charles

Donna was born August 1, 1937, in Rural Lakewood, IL, a daughter of Marion and Alice (Herten) Sherwood. Donna graduated from Girard High School with the class of 1955.
Donna was preceded in death by her father, Marion Sherwood and mother, Alice Sherwood.
Donna retired from the Illinois State Department of Conservation after 35 years. Following her retirement she worked as a teller at First National Bank in Girard. She also helped with the Girard Food Pantry including serving on the board as president.
Donna was a member of the Girard Methodist Church. She enjoyed cooking for and eating with her family and friends.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 18, 2023, 4:00 to 6:00 pm at Davis-Anderson Funeral Home, Girard, IL.
Funeral Services will be conducted at 10:30 am, Thursday, October 19, 2023 at Tower Hill Cemetery and burial will follow.
Donna is survived by her son, Brad (Amy) Wylder, grandson, Zachary (Lisa) Allen, granddaughter, Hilary Wylder, grandson, Hayden Wylder and two great-granddaughters and two great-grandsons.

She was born August 9, 1936, in Springfield, IL, a daughter to Edward and O.Bernice (Conlee) Fricke of South Otter township. She was a Girard High School alumna, class of 1954. She married Robert (Bob) Bray on January 2, 1958, at Girard First Baptist Church, where she was a life-long member. Robert passed away in April, 1994 in Jacksonville, IL.
There will be a graveside service at Girard Cemetery at a future date. The family suggests memorials to be given in Marilyn's memory to Pleasant Dale Place or Elara Caring Hospice, Springfield, IL (or a hospice of one's choosing).
Marilyn is survived by children, Lynda Marlene (Ralph) Moshage, Darren L. (Corina) Bray, Donna M. Seelbach. Also surviving are 11 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren; Scott (Elizabeth Richardson) Moshage and their children, Adam and Natalie; Nick (Erika) Moshage; Sara (Sid Sethupathi) Moshage; Chris (Vanessa Aguirre) Moshage; Joshua (Kayla) Bray and their daughters, Taya and Hannah; Stephanie (Peter) Schellenberger and their boys, Logan, Wil, Leland and Dean; Caleb (Elise) Bray and their daughter Reagan; Ethan and Sherrylee Bray; Bryan Seelbach; Zachary (Claudia) Seelbach and their children Mia, Tyler and Max.
Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents, sisters, Darlene Arpke, and Cheryl Marie Fricke, and grandson, Ryan Bray.
Marilyn was very proud of her years working as a professional telephone operator, first at Illinois Bell and later for the federal government as an operator and in other rolls. She showed her love through caring and serving her children, especially in making delicious pumpkin pies for the holidays. Marilyn had an enduring love of nature, especially cardinals and other wild birds, flowers, and her many faithful dogs and one very special cat, Kitty-Witty. The family farm was her favorite place in all the world and sharing stories of her childhood farm adventures gave her great joy. She had a sharp wit and many of her "zingers" will be humorously recounted by family and caregivers for years to come. Marilyn and Bob were avid St. Louis Cardinals fans and passed on that love to their children and grandchildren.
The family thanks the Pleasant Dale Place owners (Jan and Dave) and all of the staff (especially Amy and Peggy) for their truly exceptional care for Marilyn during the past 5 years. Marilyn felt so at home there; knowing this gave us, her family, a rare peace of mind and heart. We are also grateful to the Elara Caring team for their guidance and care for Marilyn during her last illness. Thanks also to Davis-Anderson Funeral Home for their supportive services.

Obituary Preview: Elizabeth Jane "Liz" Whitler, 97 of Girard, IL passed away Sunday afternoon, September 17, 2023, at Carlinville Area Hospital.
Elizabeth was born May 9, 1926, in Girard, IL, a daughter of James Ibra and Josephine (Wyatt) Burns.
She married Victor Dale "Vic" Whitler December 13, 1942, in St. Charles, MO.
Liz was a lifetime resident of Girard and a lifelong member of First Christian Church of Girard. She was a pianist and sang in the choir for many years and later became the director of the choir.
From 1955 to 1963, she was the receptionist for the medical office of Dr. Howard Finney in Girard. In 1963, she became the secretary to the Girard Superintendent of Schools and completed 25 years of service to the school district, retiring in 1988. In retirement, she enjoyed volunteering at the Girard Food Pantry and at her church and entertaining family and friends. Cooking was her joy and pies were her specialty.
She will be remembered for her optimism, her compassionate ways, her love for her family, neighbors and friends and her warm and inviting home.
Liz was preceded in death by her parents, husband Vic Whitler, December 2, 2010, son, James Mark Whitler, and great grandson, William Dale Aeschleman.
Visitation will be held Saturday, September 23, 2023, 11:00 am to 1:00 pm at the First Christian Church, in Girard.
Funeral Services will be conducted at 1:00 pm, Saturday, September 23, 2023, at the church with Rev. Dick Whitworth and Rev Marty Nagel officiating.
She will be buried next to her husband in Girard Cemetery.
Elizabeth is survived by her daughter, Vicky Jo Godfrey of Boise, ID, daughter, Connie (Jerry) Lambert of Flossmoor, IL, chosen daughter, Karen Snell of Modesto, IL, eight grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren, sister, Evelyn Lane of Sullivan, IL, and several nieces and nephews.

Penny was born on June 1, 1954 to William Leslie and Kathryn (Dixon) Elmore, Jr. in Carrollton, Illinois.
Penny graduated from Greenfield High School with the class of 1972. She married Don A. Baldes on April 20, 1973 in Rockbridge, Illinois at the Methodist Church. Penny worked in the trucking industry for over forty years at companies like Lippold and Arnett, Curry’s Ice and Coal, and Passalacqua and Powell in Illinois. Most recently in Colorado she worked for Rocky Mountain Soils, before returning to Illinois. She loved reading and ATV riding in the mountains of Colorado.
Penny is survived by her husband, Don; son, Scott (partner, Neal Kirby) Baldes of New Orleans, Louisiana; two sisters, Margaret (Gary) Bridgewater of Rockbridge, Illinois, and Nancy (W.A.) Baker of Frisco, Texas; 1 niece and 2 nephews.
Penny was preceded in death by parents, William Leslie Elmore, Jr., and Kathryn Elmore, and a nephew, Brett Bridgewater.
No services are planned for Penny.

Obituary Preview: Norma Jean Chasco, 91, of Palmyra, formerly of Chatham, Illinois, passed away Monday afternoon, September 26, 2022 at her residence in Palmyra, IL.
Norma Jean was born on October 22, 1930 to Montie and Mable (Scott) Claybourn in Springfield, IL. On January 25, 1950 she married Edward Chasco in Lincoln, IL. They later divorced and he since has passed away.
As a child Norma Jean grew up at the Odd Fellow-Rebekah Home in Lincoln. She graduated from Lincoln High School. She retired in 1985 as a clerk for the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Norma Jean was a member of the Modesto Christian Church. She spent much of her free time studying and collecting her family's genealogy, and was very proud of her family's history.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date for Norma Jean.
Norma is survived by her granddaughter, Michelle (Chris) Eades of Palmyra, IL; grandson, Lee (Moranda) Chasco of VA; Caregiver and special friend, Amy Ball of Hettick, IL; several nieces and nephews.
Norma was preceded in death by her parents, Montie and Mable Claybourn, son, Michael Chasco, daughter, Susan Chasco, great-grandson, Remington Eades, and 3 brothers.

Wilma retired in 2001 from FandM Bank as a teller. She was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church in Carlinville and enjoyed spending time sewing, gardening and crocheting.
Wilma is survived by her husband, Vince Clevenger of Carlinville; son, Jody (Michelle) Clevenger of Farmersville, IL; 1 grandchild and 3 great grandchildren.
Wilma was preceded in death by her parents, Louis Turner and Genevieve Larla, as well as a brother, Lyndall Turner.

Don started his trucking career with Straub Brothers for over 18 years. He had also been employed by White Line and retired from Hays Trucking in 1998.
He enjoyed watching his children in their sporting events and later followed his grandchildren with the same enthusiasm. His passion was watching the St. Louis Cardinals.
Don was preceded in death by his parents, brothers; Richard, Stephen, Al Ban and sister Victoria.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 26, 2021, 5:00 to 7:00 pm at Davis-Anderson Funeral Home, Carlinville, IL.
Graveside Services will be conducted at 10:00 am, Friday, August 27, 2021 at Prairie Lawn Cemetery with Pastor Gary Harding.officiating.

Don was preceded in death by his parents, brothers; Richard, Stephen, Al Ban and sister Victoria.

Mary Ruth was born March 30, 1933 in Carrollton, Illinois, a daughter of James B. and Ruby Royal Clardy. She married Lowell L. Getz July 5, 1953. He survives.
Arrangements were handled by the Davis-Anderson Funeral Home in Carlinville, Illinois.
Grave-side services and burial were held, June 23 at the Chesterfield Cemetery, Chesterfield, Illinois.
Mary Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers: James B. Clardy, Jr., Hugh R. Clardy, Edward L. Clardy and three sisters, Virginia A. Joseph, Kathlyn E. Gerdes, and Norma C. Kvitauskas. In addition to her husband, she is survived her two daughters, Colleen Marie Getz of Arlington, Virginia and Allison Lynn Getz (Partner, Larry Williams) of Skokie, Illinois and grandson, William Ilyia Getz, of Skokie, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mary Ruth was a 1951 graduate of Carlinville, Illinois High School. She attended Blackburn College from 1951-1953 and graduated from the University of Illinois in 1971. Mary Ruth worked for Post Engineers, Fort Devens, Massachusetts from 1954-1955 and the Department of Political Science at the University of Michigan from 1955-1957; she was Departmental Secretary from 1956-1957. Mary Ruth was a secretary in the Department of Horticulture at the University of Illinois from 1971-1999. In recognition of her unstinting assistance to them, the student Horticulture Club dedicated the annual Mom’s Weekend Flower and Garden Show to her the year she retired.
Mary Ruth was a member of the Alliance Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. One of her proudest moments in life came when her high school classmates voted her the DAR’s Good Citizenship Award. Mary Ruth was an accomplished pianist who studied the piano throughout her life. Possessing limitless intellectual curiosity, Mary Ruth loved reading serious non-fiction and always enthusiastically pursued new cultural activities and travel. She also loved ballroom dancing; she and her husband were long-time members of several ballroom dance groups. She loved flowers and took great pleasure in her backyard garden and in watching the birds and squirrels that visited its many feeders. Above all, she was devoted to her family and was unfailingly kind and generous to her husband and children, her grandson, her sisters and her many nieces and nephews.

Kyle was born on October 16, 1994 to Brad and Stacy (Wells) Kleeman in Belleville, IL. He graduated from Carlinville High School with the class of 2013. Throughout his high school career, Kyle was a very accomplished athlete, competing in basketball, football and track. His talents led him to a scholarship with McKendree University in track and field where he graduated in 2016 with a Bachelor's Degree in Sociology with an emphasis in criminal justice.
After college, Kyle worked as a youth specialist for the State of Missouri, Division of Youth Services. He recently moved back to Carlinville to be close to his family and was employed with Marcus Davis Lawn Care. Kyle enjoyed playing the piano, guitar, and recently the ukulele. He had a passion for fishing and Marvel movies. One of his special loves along with athletics was Michael Jordan and he wore his number 23 on his jerseys while playing basketball and football.
Kyle is survived by his parents, Brad and Stacy Kleeman of Carlinville; two brothers, Ryan and Reid Kleeman both of Carlinville; paternal grandparents, Lynn (Ramona) Kleeman of Freeburg, IL; maternal grandfather, Leslie Wells of Centralia, IL; three aunts, Tina (Shawn) Sullivan, Christie Carter, and Amanda (Dan) Novak, as well as numerous cousins.
Kyle was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Melba Wells; uncle, Justin Wells and aunt, Trinetta Beasley.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 19, 2021, at 11:00 am at Cross Church, located at 1030 West Main Street, Carlinville, IL 62626, with Rev. Tim Rhodus officiating. Following the service, friends will be dismissed and have the opportunity to express their condolences to the family.

Obituary Preview: Dr. Paul John Walton, 79, of Carlinville, passed away Monday morning, June 7, 2021 at his residence in Carlinville, IL.
Paul was born on January 12, 1942 to Raphael and Helen Cecelia (Cerar) in Carlinville, IL. Paul was a 1960 graduate of Carlinville High School and a 1963 graduate of Logan College of Chiropractic.
Paul began and ended his life in the town of Carlinville, surrounded by many of his beloved family. From growing up in Standard Addition to living here as an adult, Paul was always known as a kind and charismatic person that made strangers feel like friends. Paul was a staunch warrior for chiropractic and began his professional career in London, England shortly after graduating from chiropractic college and ultimately practiced chiropractic in the states for many decades. Paul left a true legacy in the profession, mentoring and helping dozens of young chiropractors to begin successful careers, always focused on helping others to create abundance in their lives. Paul was also a devout member of Emmanuel Baptist Church in Carlinville, where he taught Sunday school for 25 years. He had a true passion for bible study and sharing the love of Jesus with others. While many knew Paul as simply “Doc”, what he was most proud of in his life was his family. Paul loved his six children and seventeen grandchildren and also loved to travel; cherishing his time traveling with his wife and true love, Karen. So many things could be said about the dash between Paul’s birth and death, and he created many amazing memories for and with his family. To those that know him best, he’ll always be known as PJ, Pappy, Paul John or “Bingo Daddy”, and we all rest easy knowing that he’s in heaven today calling the numbers and watching over his loved ones.
Paul is survived by his wife of 42 years, Karen Sue Walton of Carlinville, IL; son, Dr. Rodney Paul (Lisa) Walton of Springfield, OR; son, Dr. Adrian Paul (Amy) Walton of Carlinville, IL; daughter, Shawna Christine (Michael) Veydt of Venetia, PA; son, Dr. Damon Paul (Becky) Walton of Carlinville, IL; daughter, Erica Nadine (Chris) Gibbel of Carlinville, IL; daughter-in-law, Leah Walton of Westchester, IL; 17 grandchildren; two brothers, Don R. (Carole) Walton of Springfield, IL and Gerald E. (CarolAnn) Walton of Largo, FL, as well as several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Trevor Paul Denby Walton.
Visitation will be held on Friday, June 11, 2021 from 9:30 to 11:00 am at Emmanuel Baptist Church, Carlinville, IL.
Funeral services will be follow visitation at 11:00 am at the church with Rev. Cliff Woodman officiating.
