Obituary Preview: Florence (Miller) Johnson, 92, passed away peacefully at Rosewalk Village Nursing Home in Lafayette, Indiana, on Wednesday, November 29, 2023, at 12:35 pm, surrounded by her loving family. Florence was born to the late Robert and Sena (Geisler) Miller in Idaville, IN on March 1, 1931. On November 25, 1950, Florence married the love her life, Charles Johnson in Monticello, who preceded her in death on September 20, 2014.
Florence graduated from Idaville High School. Florence went to work at Peters Revington Furniture Store in Delphi where she served the community with her knowledge of furnishings and excelled in sales.
In her free time, she loved to spend hours in the kitchen preparing meals for her family. Not only did she have a knack for cooking, she also was well known to have a green thumb. Florence thoroughly enjoyed gardening and tending to her flowers. She consistently maintained a spotless home where she would share love and warmth with her family. Florence cherished time spent with her grandchildren, who she admired greatly.
Surviving Florence include her children; Steven (Denice) Johnson, Shirley (Bob) Burkhalter, brother; Kenny(Judy) Miller, sisters; Darlene (Ralph) Strik, Shirley(Dave) Hefflemire.
Florence was preceded in death by her husband; Charles Johnson, brothers; Leslie Miller, Richard Miller, sisters; Louise Waite, Lulabelle Stidham, Becky Satterthwaite, and Cora Miller.
A funeral service honoring the life of Florence will be held on Monday, December 4, 2023, at 1 pm, located at Davidson-Shirey Funeral Home, 121 N. Union St. Delphi, with Pastor Bob Duke officiating. Jerry W. Wagner - October 17, 1939 - November 21, 2023

Obituary Preview: Jerry Wayne Wagner, 84, of Delphi, passed away peacefully on November 21, 2023, at St. Elizabeth Healthcare in Delphi.  Jerry was born in Lafayette on October 17,1939 to the late Ralph and Hilda (Fisher) Wagner.  Jerry graduated from Delphi High School in 1957 where he was a standout athlete in basketball, football, and track.  Jerry then went on to study and play football at Indiana State University.
Jerry was a local businessman who owned Bassett & Talbert Firestone in Delphi and served the needs of the greater Delphi community as a 60-year member of the Masonic Lodge and an active member of the Delphi Lions Club.
Jerry’s kids and grandkids shared his love of athletic competition.  You could always find Jerry in the bleachers cheering for his kids and grandkids.  Jerry was also an avid fisherman and loved spending time walleye fishing with his family on Lake Vermilion.  He spent hours driving the boat and providing fishing tips to his kids and grandkids.
Surviving Jerry include his wife; Carolyn Wagner, daughter; Tammy (John) Toleno, sons; Joel (Terri) Wagner, Kyle (Suzanne) Wagner, granddaughters; Lauren (Robert) Van Thiel, Caitlyn (Chris) Toleno, Megan Wagner, Madison Wagner, and Hayley Wagner, grandsons; Parker (Rebecca) Munson, Christopher (Emma) Toleno, Jordan (Caitlyn) Wagner, Peyton (Ashley) Wagner, Garret Wagner, great granddaughter; Ella Van Thiel, great grandsons; Hudson Wagner, Hendrix Wagner, and River, brother, Tom (Martha) Wagner.

Obituary Preview: Geraldine Jane (Bayless) Arney “Jerrie”, 89, of Delphi, passed away peacefully at Baptist Health Hospital in Elizabethtown Kentucky, on Friday, November 3, 2023, at 11:30 pm,  surrounded by her loving family. Jerrie was born to the late Ray and Ruby (Trotter) Bayless in Cincinnati, Ohio, on August 6, 1934. On October 3, 1955, Jerrie married the love of her life, Robert Arney in Cincinnati, who survives.
Jerrie graduated from Norwood High School in Cincinnati. After graduation she was a homemaker where she supported and helped raise her family.
Jerrie was an active member of the Ascension Lutheran Church in Saginaw, Michigan, and St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church in Delphi. Jerrie enjoyed volunteering as a Boy and Girl Scout leader. Jerrie was also a Luther League Advisor, where she would mentor youth for the church. Jerrie was recognized for over 1000 hours of volunteer work, which she loved to log at Delphi’s Wah-ba- shik-a’s Nature Center, The Farm at Prophetstown, and at Celery Bog. She also enjoyed playing the piano at Church.
In her free time, Jerrie was an accomplished Master Gardener that loved to curate gardens in her home. Jerrie loved to travel on family vacations where she reveled in creating lasting memories with each generation of the family. Alongside her loving husband Robert, they explored much of the world together and enjoyed making memories together globetrotting. Jerrie had a passion for playing the piano for others, and she found sheer joy in gardening and creating themed flower gardens on her estate. Jerrie’s favorite time was being surrounded by her family.
Jerrie was the matriarch of the family and was always a beacon of love and warmth. Her devotion to Jesus was the true cornerstone of her existence. Her devotion to the Lord helped connect and solidify many people’s faith with the Lord.
Surviving Jerrie include her husband; Robert Eugene Arney, children; Robin (Elaine) Arney, Kelly (Julie) Arney, Tamy (Russ) Denter, grandchildren; Michelle (Joel) Greenwell, Kim Mitton, Aaron (Sarah) Arney, Kara Fenton, Kayla (Mike) Pechin, Tiffany (Nolan) Vanover, Brittany Denter, Cody (Elena) Arney, great- grandchildren; Ocean Ledbetter, Leyton Corbin, Jamison Haas, Nico Greenwell, Mason Pechin, Trace Mitton, Jordon Fenton, Charleigh Mitton, Easton Arney, Emersyn Arney, and Develin Mullins.
Jerrie was preceded in death by a daughter; Deana Kirk, granddaughter; Kristin Mullins, and great- grandson; Braxton Haas.

Phillip Dale Kauffman - January 28, 1946 - October 17, 2023

Obituary Preview: Phillip Kauffman, 77, of Colburn, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 17, 2023, at home surrounded by family. He was born on January 28, 1946, to the late Bob and Maxine (Harmon) Kauffman, in Lafayette, Indiana.
On May 13, 2004, Phil married Brenda (Abrams) Kauffman, at Delphi United Methodist Church.
Phil grew up in Colburn and never lived too far from home. He graduated from East Tipp High School and later went on to serve in the United States Navy for 4 years. After leaving the Navy, Phil started working at Alcoa and eventually retiring in 2007 where he dedicated 38 years of service.
Phil’s first marriage was to Nancy Hawkins, who preceded him in death in 2000. Her daughter Susan (Greg) Shirar of Lexington, KY, always considered him Dad. Susan has 2 brothers living and one sister deceased.
Phil was an avid outdoorsman. From the time he was young he enjoyed fishing, hunting, and trapping. Mushroom hunting was also a passion of his. In earlier years he was an excellent bowler and he enjoyed playing cards. He was also a 53 year member of the Delphi American Legion along with being a union member.
Most considered Phil to be a quiet man most of the time, but he dearly loved his family and having a good time. He enjoyed watching Purdue football and basketball. Brenda and Phil enjoyed travelling to Alaska, and they loved going to concerts together. Phil had a passion for nature and especially for dogs. Many strays were welcomed home.
Survivors include his wife of 19 years; Brenda (Abrams) Kauffman, brother; Van (Diana) Kauffman, of Colburn, several nieces and nephews, and step grandchildren children who gratefully appreciated him.
A funeral service honoring the life of Phillip will be held at 11 am, on Saturday, October 21, 2023, at Davidson Funeral Home, located at 121 N. Union Street, Delphi, In, with pastor Bob Duke officiating. Friends may visit with the family on Friday, October 20, 2023, at Davidson Funeral Home, from 5-7 pm.
Burial will follow at Colburn Lutheran Cemetery where Military Honors will be performed by local VFW post 9383, and the United States Navy.

Neta was born August 26, 1955, in Lafayette Indiana to Gerald and Bertie (Wamsher) Smith.  She was a 1973 Graduate of Delphi Community High School.  On March 6, 2010, she married Douglas Danforth, who survives.
Neta worked for The Flower Shoppe II for 31 years, then for Twin Lakes High School as their Kitchen Manager for 10 years.  Neta enjoyed volunteering for the Delphi Senior Center.
Surviving Neta are her stepchildren; Becky (Lon) Shuler, Kelly Daniels, Steve Daniels, Ron (Dusty) Daniels, grandchildren; Wade (Ashley) Shuler, Jarred Daniels, Jordan Daniels, Braden (Brenda) Daniels, Selby Barbour, Alexis Daniels, Chevelle Daniels, Dustin Daniels, and great grandchildren; Kendall Shuler, Kareena Shuler, Paxton Dixon.

Mark attended Delphi High School, in Delphi, IN. After school Mark went to work as a truck operator for nearly 30 years driving semis for various companies and farms around the area.
In his free time mark enjoyed to go fishing, watching NASCAR, and spending time with his friends and family.

Carol L. Oliver - March 11, 1941 - September 16, 2023

Obituary Preview: Carol Lou (Randle) Oliver, 82, passed away at 4:55 pm, on Saturday, September 16, 2023, at St. Elizabeth Healthcare Campus in Delphi, after a short stay. Carol was born at home in Delphi, to the late Charlie and Ethel (Benefiel) Randle on March 11, 1941, in Delphi, In.
Carol was a bright and inquisitive child, and a joy to her parents. She attended Delphi schools and earned her GED in 1966.
She married Robert C. Oliver on January 25, 1958 and had three children; Jill Marie (Sam Rector), Timothy J. (Melissa Roskuski), and Robin W.; five grandchildren, Charlie, Ben, Ashton, Jane, and Brady and two great grandchildren; Maddie, and Max. As a young mother she threw herself into raising her children as she helped out in Sunday School, Bible School, and Scouts, and was their biggest cheerleader at sports events. The house was always full of 4H projects, sports equipment, games, and books.
Carol had several interests, including raising and showing horses and, later, showing champion basset hounds. She and Robert opened a boarding kennel. In addition to boarding all breeds of dogs and cats, Carol had a grooming business for many years. She was a talented artist. She worked at the Dairy Queen and the Dog and Suds to pay for art courses and learned on her own, too. She mastered china painting and held classes in her in home studio. She was an active member of the Delphi Art Club. She helped organize the annual Art Show during Old Settlers and held various offices in her tenure with the group. Her beautiful work is treasured by friends and family. She had an interest in genealogy and investigated her and Bob’s ancestry. She was also a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Carol was an antique collector and ran a business selling antiques and art for many years.
Carol also worked as a pre-press supervisor at the Herald Journal in Monticello and later at the Carroll County Museum archiving photos into digital formats.
She and Bob wintered in Arizona in Gold Canyon for twenty years. She loved hiking, sightseeing, and making new friends in the parks they stayed in.
Carol was a vivacious and creative woman. She loved life and shared that love as an involved wife, mother, grandmother, and community member.
Carol was preceded in death by her sister, Carmen (Gordon) Stevens, brother, Bill (Sherry) Randle, and a granddaughter. A funeral service honoring the life of Carol will be held on Friday, September 22, 2023, starting at 1 pm, at Davidson Funeral Home, located at 121 N. Obituary Preview: Max E. Raines, 93, of Monticello, passed away peacefully at 7:40 am, September 12, 2023, at Monticello Health Care. Max was born to the late Roy and Della (Spear) Raines on July 2, 1930, in White County.
Max attended Chalmers High School, and went on to enlist in the Army during the Korean War. After returning home Max was a farmer in Tippecanoe County for nearly 20 years. After farming Max worked at the Delphi Street Department as an operator and eventually retiring.
In his free time Max enjoyed working in the yard, riding his motorcycle, and attending Elmwood Church of Christ.
Surviving Max are his two very close friends; Jason (Melissa) Lowry, and Dave (Lorraine) Weckerly. Max was preceded in death by sisters; Elma Raines, Zelma Raines, and a brother; Dean Raines

Obituary Preview: Roger D. Cain, 90, of Lafayette, passed away peacefully at 12:45 pm, on Monday September 4, 2023, at Mulberry Health. Roger was born to the late Clarence and Vera Marie (Seedorf) Cain, on January 12, 1933 in Tippecanoe County. On May 21, 1954, Roger married the love of his life Norma A. (Capper) Cain, who preceded him in death on April 9, 2022.
Roger graduated from Delphi High School and went on to study at Purdue University. Roger went on the serve in the Army for two years and achieved the National Defense Service Medal for his service and dedication. After retiring from the Army, Roger pursued a career at Eli Lilly, where he was a group leader for several years and eventually retiring.
In his free time Roger enjoyed to hunt for antiques, working in his orchid filled gardens, and woodworking. His most cherished hobby was spending time with his family.
Surviving Roger include his children; Rick (Susie) Cain, Robert Cain, Jeffrey (Sandy) Cain, sister; Kay Henry, 10 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, and 1 great great grandchild.
Roger was preceded in death by his loving wife Norma, son; Randy (Cindy) Cain, and sisters; Deloris Wilson, and Marleen Cain.
A graveside service will be held on Friday September 8, 2023, starting at 10:00 am, at I.O.O.F Memorial Gardens in Pittsburg, In, with Pastor Bob Duke officiating. Paul was born to the late John and Ada Beatrice (McAhren) Dickerson, on May 20, 1938, in Butlerville, Indiana. On August 6, 1960, Paul married the love of his life Alice “Kay” (Waldrop) Dickerson, who preceded him in death.
Paul graduated from Sugar Creek High School in Pickard Indiana. Paul enlisted in the Military at a young age and went on to serve in the US Navy from 1958-1971. Paul and Kay were stationed in Norfolk, VA. After retiring from the Navy, Paul and Kay moved to Michigan where his wife was born. After serving in the Navy, Paul held several different jobs and eventually retired from Tenneco, where he was an electrical engineer.
Surviving Paul include his daughters; Ann Michelle (Robert) Greeley, Anita Beatrice (Christopher) Rhodes, Annette Cathlene (Rick) Aper, Sharon Kay Zachary, Sandra Dee (Jeff) Kibler, grandchildren; Rashonda Roller, Aliceshia Slain, Joshua Dickerson, Jonathan Hartlerode, Phillp Zech, Joseph Hartlerode, Justin Snyder, Adam Zech, Jordan Aper and Corey Aper, 23 great grandchildren, and 5 great- great grandchildren.
A memorial service celebrating the life of Paul will be held at the local VFW, post 9383, located at 304 N. Market Street, Delphi, at 12:30 pm, on Saturday, September 30. Tony was born to the late Anthony Oliver Sr., and Josephine (Rizzo) Oliveri, on May 3, 1945 in Chicago, Illinois. On June 22, 1968, Tony married the love of his life Charlene (O’Neill) Oliveri, who survives.
Tony graduated from Willowbrook High School in 1964. After graduating, Tony enlisted in the Army for four years. In his free time Tony loved spending time at the shooting range. He was an active member of the NRA and a proud supporter of the Wildcat Club in Brookston. Tony had worked in technology and sales, where he created his own computer software packages that specialized in accounting and inventory management. Tony was also a train enthusiast, and enjoyed tinkering and working on his model train collection.
Surviving Tony include his sons; Michael (Melissa) Oliveri, Chuck (Kaci) Oliver, grandchildren; Timothy Oliveri, Patrick Oliveri, and Lillian Oliveri. Jeff was currently working at Caterpillar as an engineer where his designs earned several patents.
In his free time Jeff loved everything racing and going fast. He was known for racing anything that had an engine and especially watching racing. Jeff also had his pilot’s license and enjoyed flying. His favorite past time was spending time with all of his nieces and nephews, and watching them play sports during school. Jeff never missed any of his nieces or nephews’ games, and loved them dearly and enjoyed watching them grow up.

Fred was born to the late Paul and Mary (Cartwright) Bergner, on August 7, 1944, in Oregon, Illinois. On October 2, 1971 Fred married the love of his life Barbara (Leleniewski) Bergner, who survives.
Fred graduated from Oregon high school and later went on to study engineering at the University of Illinois. While in school Fred enlisted in the Navy where he served during the Vietnam Conflict. After retiring from the Navy, Fred went to work for Alcoa for several years, and later worked for Bank One where he was the facilities manager. Fred was involved in many community events and organizations such as, Friends of Delphi Library, volunteer for Niches Land Trust, Indiana Master Naturalist, Delphi American Legion, Delphi Methodist Church, and he served as the former finance chair for the Delphi Methodist Church
Fred truly had a heart for serving others, and in his free time he enjoyed spending time outdoors, feeding the birds, traveling with his wife, and he loved to spend time with his grandchildren. Survivors include his wife; Barbara (Leleniewski) Bergner, daughters; Cathy Potter of Columbus, In., Debra (Tim) Hula, of Lafayette, In., grandchildren; Andrew Potter, Katie Hula, Caleb Potter, Isaac Hula, Haley Potter, Mary Angeles Vasquez, and Mary Sophie Vasquez No public services are scheduled at this time. Arlene graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1957, and later went on to marry the love of her life, James Milton Tyner, on July 7, 1957 in Monticello, In, who preceded her in death in 1997.
Arlene attended Warners Beauty College, and became a licensed beautician. Arlene later went on to be a co-owner and operator of the Shiloh Drive In, for several years and then went on to be a co-owner at JT’s Family Restaurant and eventually retiring.  She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star in Clinton County. In her free time, she enjoyed traveling out west with her family, having leisure time at lake Freeman with her friends, playing euchre, and watching movies. She was known for being an avid QVC shopper.
Surviving Arlene are her sons; James (Linda) Tyner of Delphi, John Tyner of Cincinnati, OH, Jeffrey of Lafayette, sister; Echo Scott of Yeoman, In, grandchildren; Nick (Laura) Tyner, Brittany Tyner, Jennie (Damon) Yocum, Emily Tyner, and 4 great grandchildren.

Her greatest passion was spending time with her children and grandchildren, and watching them play baseball.  She was a loving wife and mother who cared deeply for her family and for her friends.

Earl was employed with Gary US Steel Mills, Ford Stamping Plant, and worked for Northern Indiana Public Service Company for 33 years prior to retirement in 1995.  He married Colleen (Kerkhove) Franek of Camden, IN, at Saint Joseph Catholic Church in Delphi, IN, on December 28, 1960, and she survives.
Earl was a union member and served on the Camden Town Board for four years.  He enjoyed nature, bird watching, and tending to his flowers and landscaping.  He also had a passion for boating, fishing, and camping.  He loved his family and looked forward to spending time together.
Earl is survived by his daughters; Rene’ (Jeff) Viney of Delphi, Rita (David) Clifford of West Lafayette, IN, grandchildren; Jared (Morgan) Anderson of Delphi, Colleen (Robert) Griffin-Duncan of Belgrade, MT, and Katie (Garrett) Gee of Wichita, KS, and 6 great grandchildren.

He was a 28-year member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Delphi, a previous member of the VFW Men’s Auxiliary, and the Deer Creek Township Advisory Board where he was newly elected.
He enjoyed fishing with his son, David and gardening and canning. He loved his family and enjoyed helping others. He loved watching his children grow and tried hard to provide for them. Matt was proud to live in Delphi. He enjoyed attending the Purdue Women’s Basketball games.
Along with his wife, Beth Ann, he is survived by his children: Katlyn Burkhart of Greenwood, Jessica Burkhart of Bolivar, MO and David Burkhart of Delphi; his mother, Janice (Matthews) Burkhart of Delphi and his father, William “Bill” Burkhart (Deb) of Lafayette; his brother, Neal Burkhart of Delphi and step-brother, Justin Burkhart of West Lafayette.

Obituary Preview: Sharon Louise O’Farrell was born June 27, 1934, to the late Ralph E. and Mary Louise (Gerard) Hanna in Indianapolis, IN. She was a 1952 graduate of Delphi High School and later graduated from Indiana University, with a degree in theater and journalism. After graduating, one of her beloved memories was spending the summer waiting table at Lake Tahoe with her best friend Sharon Heyes.
Before getting married Sharon lived for a time in New York City working as a switchboard operator at NBC and then as a secretary for Nobel Prize winner Herbert C. Brown at Purdue University, of which she was quite proud.
She married James “Pat” O’Farrell on July 26, 1958 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Delphi. He preceded her in death on Feb. 9, 2006.
Throughout her life she participated in civic theater. As a natural storyteller, Sharon enjoyed portraying different characters and being part of the theater community.
Family was the biggest part of Sharon’s life. She loved being surrounded by family as well as supporting them. She spent many days and nights in the field helping move vehicles and providing meals. She was always in the stands to cheer on her grandchildren. Her grandchildren can all attest that a day with grandma was filled with excitement – whether it was collecting rocks, running around the antique store, helping with a menagerie of animals (cats, dogs, pigs), or a trip to the Sandwich Shop or putt-putt golf course for a milkshake.
Sharon enjoyed rock collecting, acting in several area civic theaters and loved antiquing.
She is survived by her children: Kathleen (Tim) Strasser and Tara (Dan) Shanks both of Camden; Kyle (Tonya) O’Farrell of Delphi and daughter-in-law, Kathi O’Farrell of Monticello; grandchildren: David (Lyndsay) Strasser, Sara Strasser, Hannah Strasser, Nolan (Erica) O’Farrell, Nathan O’Farrell, Adam (Lauren) Shanks, Katelyn (Mason) O’Farrell Fischer & Ryan O’Farrell and great grandchildren: Lyberty Williams and Caroline Strasser.
Along with her husband, Pat she was preceded in death by her son, Kevin O’Farrell, and younger brother, Gerald “Jerry” Hanna.
Visitation will be from 4-8:00 p.m. on Friday, May 19, 2023 at Davidson Funeral Home in Delphi. Rosary will be at 3:30 p.m. Funeral Mass will be at 11:00 a.m. on May 20th at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Delphi with Father David Buckles officiating. Obituary Preview: Marvil June Frances (Koch) Calvert, age 86, of Lafayette (formerly Delphi), passed away on April 24, 2023 in Lafayette.  She was born on November 26, 1936 in Lafayette, Indiana to the late James Koch and Viola (Kendall) Koch Periche.   The oldest of six children, she was raised in Lafayette, in the St. Elizabeth’s Hospital neighborhood, and later West Lafayette (Division Road).  She attended St. Lawrence Catholic School and St. Francis High School.  A fierce lover of all living things, she was loyal throughout her life to the confirmation saint she chose, Saint Francis of Assisi.   Marvil lived in the Lafayette and Delphi areas for most of her life, except for a year in Ceylon(now Sri Lanka).  In her twenties, she worked at a jewelry store and also taught dance lessons at the Arthur Murray Dance Studio in downtown Lafayette.  For many years, she was a school bus driver for Hershey/East Tipp and Delphi Public Schools.  She owned several businesses over the years, including the Hilltop Shell and the Home Movie Center, both located in Delphi.  In her later years, she operated a business selling t-shirts and sweatshirts at regional festivals and various local malls.  Marvil was an outgoing, friendly, and an energetic person who had an infectious laugh and life was always interesting around her.  She was a free and independent person and lived life on her terms until the end.  She had many interests and passions including singing, gardening, canning, sewing, crafting, crocheting, cooking, wine making, and herbal medicine.  Her greatest passion, however, was animals and over the years she raised many animals on the farm, Himalayan cats, and dog breeds including Poodles, Yorkshire Terriers, Shih Tzus, Afghan Hounds, and finally her favorite, Papillons.  She operated Wild Havens Papillons in her retirement and sold many puppies to grateful families all across the country.  Marvil was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Delphi, and generational family church, St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Lafayette.

Donnalou was a former member of the Monticello and Eastlawn United Methodist Churches as well as United Methodist Women.
She enjoyed crocheting and playing cards. She loved spending time with her family and friends.
She is survived by daughter, Sue Foard (Gary) of Lafayette, son, Terry Davidson (Denise) of Delphi; grandchildren: Grant and Danielle Davidson, Amanda and Andy Stark, Andrea and Chris Stout; and great grandchildren: Griffin, Deacon, Miles, Elaina, Micah, and baby Stout on the way; and several nieces and nephews.
Donnalou was also preceded in death by her brother Dale Reingardt; sisters: Gleeta Killin and Letabelle Jenkins; and great grandson, Tyson Stark.
