Ladies and gentlemen, family, and friends,
Thank you for being with us today to celebrate the life of a truly remarkable woman, my mother, Sylvia “Judy” Clouser. We gather here, not just in mourning, but in humble admiration and gratitude for the impact she has left on each one of us. Judy was a loving wife, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend to many. Today, we remember her as an exceptional, inspirational, and compassionate individual who touched the lives of everyone she met.
Born in 1936, Judy was the youngest of 11 children raised in the small town called Dogtown, near Coupon, Pennsylvania. She grew up with an admiration for her family, and the fond memories she held of her childhood, from simple Christmases with oranges and candies in her stocking to her roller skates and new bike, never ceased to warm her heart.

A woman of immense strength and love, Judy was a devoted caretaker for her siblings who lived in town, showing us the importance of caring for one another. As a nurse and an educator, she made a significant impact on her students, patients, and the entire community of Altoona. Her passion for teaching and her efforts to provide support and comfort to those around her are a testament to a life well-lived.
As a mother, Judy was our biggest fan, cheering us on at every step of life. She fostered our love for knowledge, and her storytelling took us back in time to share in her sense of wonder and excitement. And while life brought its share of hardships, Judy greeted each challenge with faith and resilience, showing us the true meaning of perseverance and healing.
E. E. Cummings' poem, "I carry your heart," comes to mind, as Judy's heart was large enough to carry the love for her family, friends, and community.
"I carry your heart with me (I carry it in
my heart) I am never without it (anywhere
I go you go, my dear…"
Her faith in God was unwavering, and it provided her the strength to live a life full of love. Her involvement in Sacred Heart Church was genuine and spoke volumes to how deeply she cared for others. The friendships she made will forever be cherished, as they shared laughter, love, and support throughout the years.
Judy's love for her grandchildren was immeasurable, and she delighted in watching them grow into the amazing individuals they are today. We are all blessed to have had her as a mother, friend, adviser, and mentor.
As we remember and celebrate my mother's extraordinary life, let us take with us the lessons she taught us - to love, support, and care for one another in our lives.
"I carry your heart (I carry it in my heart)" - E. E. Cummings
Judy, your heart will forever be carried in the hearts of all who love you. We know you are now reunited with your loved ones, smiling and calling out their names with great joy and love. Thank you for being our guiding light, our inspiration, and our unwavering support.
In the words of J.K. Rowling, "Love as powerful as your mother’s for you leaves its own mark. To have been loved so deeply, even though the person who loved us is gone, will give us some protection forever.”
Thank you all for being here today to support our family and honor the exceptional life of Judy. Please join us for a luncheon after the service, where we can come together to share in the love she has left behind.
May your heart be at peace, Judy, and may your love and memories live on in all of us.
