Linda Sue Anderla - May 25, 1951 - March 16, 2022

Departed: 03/16/2022 (Elk River)
Obituary Preview: Age 70, of Buffalo, MN, formerly of Ontonagon, MI and Colfax, WI, passed away on March 16, 2022, after a long journey with cancer.  She spent her last days in hospice with family at her bedside.  Linda was born on May 25, 1951 in Ontonagon, MI.  She is the daughter of Phyllis and the late John R. Bailey.
She was happiest with her toes in the sand hunting for agates or looking for shells on a Florida beach.  If the beach was not nearby, you’d find her with her fingers in the dirt tending her gardens.  If the weather was foul, you could find her with her needles in hand skillfully crafting one of her many knitting projects.  And always nearby, you’d find one of the latest novels she was devouring.
Her greatest joy was time spent with family.  She deeply loved her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.  At family events she was notorious for giving everyone a job helping to prepare the meal.  It is well known within her family that in her own subtle way she was the quiet leader that kept everyone bound together.  She was always there to lend an ear and to help solve life’s greatest trials and tribulations without judgment or criticism.
Linda is survived by her husband, Charlie Anderla; her mother, Phyllis Bailey; brothers, Ed, Byron, and Chad (Tammy) Bailey; sons, Jarrid (Alice) and David (Jeana) Menzemer, Mike (Jacqueline) Anderla; daughter, Connie (James) Teaney; grandchildren, Cody, Brianna, Max, and Luke Menzemer, Sarah (Colton) Hertzog, Jackie Olson, Katy Satriano, Kirby and Kylee Anderla; great grandchildren, Skylar, Jax, Bailey, Bennett, Brea, Justin, and Mason.

During his years of raising his family in Ramsey, MN, Wendell enjoyed fixing up old cars, spending time with neighbors, working on home projects, fishing, hunting, and spending time up north.  He also enjoyed taking road trips to longtime friends and relatives.
Wendell enjoyed many different hobbies in retirement such as wood working, assembling model ships, visiting antique shops, and making toys for family and friends.  His biggest passion, however, was collecting and refurbishing vintage pocket watches.  As a proud, self-taught repair man, he loved to share his enthusiasm and knowledge of his pocket watches with all.
He loved his family deeply and especially adored his grandchildren, Jacob and Noah, who will always remember him as "Bumpa Wendell".
Wendell was preceded in death by his parents, Merle and Hazel Nielson of Atwater, MN. Memorial service will be held at Noon on Friday, April 15, 2022 at Dare's Funeral Home, 805 Main Street NW, Elk River, MN 55330, with visitation starting at 11:00 AM.  www.daresfuneralservice.com

Mark Andrew Temke - April 14, 1946 - February 17, 2022

Departed: 02/17/2022 (Elk River)
Obituary Preview: Husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, Vietnam Veteran, and man of complete faith in God passed away and entered the gates of heaven on February 17th, 2022 surrounded by his wife and children.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Sherry (who he told the first time they met, “I’m going to marry you”), seven children, eighteen grandchildren, two sisters, three brothers.
Mark was a force to be reckoned with. Measured, he stood an average size yet his contagious laugh and the energy he emitted elevated his stature to something truly larger than life. In his youth, Mark traveled the world but later in life he most enjoyed sitting by his wife Sherry’s side, to whom he was completely devoted to. Following his graduation from Cretin High School, Mark served proudly in the United States Air Force and saw combat in Vietnam from 1967-1968. He earned four medals serving his country. Some of Mark’s favorite pastimes included reading his Bible (daily), family gatherings, utilizing his lead foot while driving around to meet with business colleagues, closing on a deal (Mark was a passionate salesman), watching Westerns, and taking naps in his favorite chair while surrounded by the warm chatter of family.
Mark was blessed to be engaged in the work of Gideons International and enjoyed doing God’s work alongside friends. He was happiest when sharing his personal testimony for God with others. While he was a strong patriarch, hard worker, and provider for his family, he also had a gentle, empathetic soul underneath the gruff, masculine exterior. Mark championed the underdog. He had a unique gift to engage in conversation with anyone. Mark was generous and never hesitated to be the first to give, whether it be money to a friend in need or the coat off his back (sometimes literally). Mark did all things with love and without complaint. His family is missing him terribly but know that he was ready to đi đi mau to heaven.
Mark’s life will be celebrated at Christ Church Otsego, 15849-90th St NE, Otsego, MN 55330, on February 25, 2022, at 11:00 AM with visitation one hour prior followed by a light luncheon.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is an obituary?

An obituary is a written notice that announces the death of a person, typically including their name, age, date of birth and death, and a brief biography. It's usually published in a newspaper, online obituary platform, or funeral home website to inform friends, family, and community members of the person's passing.

Why are obituaries important?

Obituaries serve as a way to honor and remember the deceased, while also providing important information to those who need to know about the funeral arrangements, memorial services, and other details. They also offer a sense of closure and help loved ones begin the grieving process.

Who writes an obituary?

Typically, a family member or close friend writes the obituary with the assistance of a funeral home or obituary writer. In some cases, the deceased may have written their own obituary before passing away.

What information should be included in an obituary?

A standard obituary usually includes the person's full name, age, date of birth and death, place of residence, occupation, education, military service (if applicable), surviving family members, and any notable achievements or hobbies. It may also include funeral service details and memorial donation information.

How long does it take to write an obituary?

The time it takes to write an obituary can vary depending on the complexity and length of the piece. On average, it can take anywhere from 30 minutes to several hours to gather information and craft a well-written obituary.

Can I include photos in an obituary?

Yes, many online obituary platforms and funeral homes allow you to upload one or multiple photos of the deceased to accompany the obituary. This can help personalize the tribute and make it more meaningful for loved ones.

How do I submit an obituary to a newspaper?

Contact the newspaper's obituary department directly to inquire about their submission process and guidelines. Some newspapers may accept online submissions, while others may require email or phone submissions.

Can I write my own obituary?

Yes, some people choose to write their own obituaries before they pass away. This can be a therapeutic exercise and ensure that your life story is told in your own words. However, it's essential to keep in mind that your loved ones may still need to add or modify information after your passing.

What is the difference between an obituary and a death notice?

A death notice is a brief announcement of someone's passing, usually including only the basic facts such as name, age, date of birth and death. An obituary is a longer, more detailed tribute that provides a fuller picture of the person's life.

Can I include humor in an obituary?

Absolutely! Humor can be an excellent way to celebrate the deceased's personality and spirit. Just be sure to use good taste and consider the feelings of all who will be reading the obituary.

How long should an obituary be?

The ideal length of an obituary varies depending on the publication or platform. Generally, aim for 150-300 words for a traditional newspaper obituary and up to 500 words or more for an online tribute.

Can I include quotes or lyrics in an obituary?

Yes! Quotes, lyrics, or poems can add depth and meaning to an obituary. Choose something that resonates with the deceased's personality or interests.

What if I'm not comfortable writing an obituary myself?

DON'T WORRY! Funeral homes often provide assistance with writing obituaries, or you can hire a professional obituary writer. Additionally, many online platforms offer templates and guidance to help you craft a beautiful tribute.

Can I edit an obituary after it's been published?

In most cases, yes. If you need to make corrections or additions to an already-published obituary, contact the publication or platform where it was posted. They'll guide you through their editing process.

How do I share an online obituary with others?

You can share online obituaries via social media, email, or messaging apps. Many platforms also provide sharing links or buttons to make it easy to spread the word.

Can I create a memorial website or page for my loved one?

Absolutely! Memorial websites or pages allow you to create a permanent online tribute where friends and family can share memories, photos, and condolences. You can use platforms like Facebook Memorials or dedicated memorial websites like Legacy.com.

What is the purpose of an online guestbook?

An online guestbook allows friends and family to leave messages of condolence, share memories, and pay their respects to the deceased. It provides a space for people to express their feelings and connect with each other during a difficult time.

How long do online obituaries remain available?

The duration varies depending on the platform or publication. Some online obituaries may remain available indefinitely, while others might be archived after a certain period (e.g., 30 days). Be sure to check with the specific platform for their policies.

Can I request donations in lieu of flowers in an obituary?

Yes! Many families prefer donations to charities or organizations instead of flowers. Include the charity's name and any relevant information in the obituary so that mourners know how to contribute.

What if I want to keep my loved one's funeral private?

You can specify in the obituary that the funeral service is private or by invitation only. This will help manage expectations and respect your wishes for privacy during this difficult time.

Can I include pets in an obituary?

Absolutely! Pets are often considered part of the family, so it's perfectly fine to mention them in an obituary as surviving companions or beloved pets.

How do I handle errors or inaccuracies in an already-published obituary?

Contact the publication or platform where the obituary was posted as soon as possible. They'll work with you to correct any mistakes and republish the revised version.

What is the etiquette for responding to condolences expressed in an online guestbook?

A simple "thank you" or acknowledgement is sufficient when responding to condolences left in an online guestbook. You can also respond privately if you prefer.

Can I reuse content from another source (e.g., social media) for an obituary?

Better safe than sorry! While it might seem convenient to reuse content from social media profiles or other sources, it's best to start from scratch when writing an obituary. This ensures accuracy and helps avoid potential copyright issues.

How do I preserve my loved one's legacy beyond the initial grieving period?

Create a lasting tribute by establishing a memorial fund, planting trees in their honor, or engaging in activities that continue their passions and values. You can also revisit their online memorial page periodically to reflect on cherished memories.
