Obituary Preview: Dorothy Jean Aebi Wells went to heaven to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on April 7, 2024, at age 90. She was born on September 30, 1933, in Herington, KS to Milton and Marjorie (Johnson) Aebi. She was the granddaughter of a Swiss immigrant. She grew up on the family farm north of Woodbine and graduated as valedictorian of the class of 1951 from Woodbine High School. She had only one sibling, Darrell, who died in a car accident in 1961. Jean married her lifelong love, Albert Edward Wells of Dade County, GA, on August 22, 1951, in The Chapel of the Transfiguration in Grand Teton National Park, WY. Al preceded her to heaven on August 7, 2022.
They made their home in Enterprise for most of their 70 years of marriage.
Jean was a homemaker while her children were young, and later worked at Froelich’s Grocery Store in Enterprise, and then at the Dickinson County Bank. She was a member of Enterprise EHU and served on the Enterprise Library Board.
She attended Emmanuel Church in Abilene and was active in a women's Bible study until her health prohibited it.
In addition to Al, she was also preceded in death by her parents, her brother Darrell Aebi, and son-in-law Ray Van Sickle.
Jean is survived by her daughter Christiane Van Sickle of Newton, and son Kenyon (Kathy) of Olathe. Also, grandchildren Melodi (Caleb) Wood, Brent (Jennifer) Van Sickle, Abbie Bazan and Ashley (Francisco) Pacheco as well as 7 great-grandchildren: Shane and Sawyer Wood, Brook, Braden and Bryce Van Sickle, and Jude and Oliver Bazan. She was devoted to her family.

He was preceded in death by his parents and former wife, Bobbie Jo Torrence. He is survived by wife, Pattie, of the home; sister, Sheri (Roger) Dowding, Syracuse, NE; brother, Tanner (Leah), St. Joseph, MO; son, David (Melinda), grandchildren, Joseph and Nathon Mayhew, Okarche, OK; Daughter, Janna (Mike) Medlin, grandchildren Ethan Medlin, Dillon Smith and Kylee (Kendon) Brown, all of Oklahoma; Stepson Brian (Desiree), Lorissa and Davin Bailey, Leavenworth, KS; stepdaughter, Heather (RJ) Ferrari, Avalyn of Manhattan, Kansas and Mackenzie Ferrari and stepson, David P. Leach, Chicago, IL
He attended Fairbury College, Fairbury, Nebraska. Following his attendance there he joined the National Guard and was subsequently activated in 1969, serving in Vietnam. Other duty assignments included Kansas, Alaska, Colorado, and Maryland. He retired from his military career as a Major and subsequently served as a civilian with the Directorate of Logistics, as the Ft. Riley Property Book Officer.
During his retirement years, he loved bird-watching; photography, serving the Boy Scouts in Abilene; Konza prairie as a docent; Maxwell Wildlife Refuge, Canton, KS; President of the Kansas Ornithological Society; President of the Smoky Hill Trail Association and on the Board of Trustees for the Dickinson County Historical Society.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Dusty Bookshelf, 700 N. Manhattan Ave., Manhattan, KS 66502.
A celebration of life reception will take place Saturday, May 11th from 10AM until 3PM at the Abilene Rec Center. A private family inurnment for the family will take place at a later date.

Obituary Preview: Jane Schenck, 62 of Abilene passed away March 19, 2024. She was born October 27, 1961 the daughter of Robert and Doris (Holm) Schenck. She graduated from Abilene High School in 1980 and went on to receive her B.S. in accounting at Emporia State University. On November 11, 2011 she was united in marriage to Mark Biggs. He preceded her in death February 17, 2023. Jane worked 30 years for WardCraft Homes in Clay Center as a comptroller and HR Manager. Jane is survived by her sister, Robin Schenck and husband Curt Harman of Garden City, Kansas. Two brothers, Tim and wife Susan of Abilene and Jason of Arlington, Texas. Two step-sons, Mark Biggs of Abilene and Austin Biggs and wife Shannon of Salina and two step-grandchildren, Caelyn Biggs and Caedyn Biggs and nieces, Katie Medlock, McKenna Schenck. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband. Memorial services will be 10:30 A.M., Wednesday, March 27, 2024 at the Faith Lutheran Church in Abilene. Burial will follow at Abilene City Cemetery. Family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 5-7 P.M., at Danner Funeral Home. After graduating from high school, Gil served in the Air Force at Forbes Air Force Base in Topeka, Kansas for four years and met his wife Marjorie.
He graduated from Emporia State University with a degree in Education and went on to his first teaching job at Herington Junior High in Herington, Kansas where he was a health and PE teacher as well as a coach.
Gil moved to Abilene, Kansas where he taught and retired from Abilene Middle School after 35 years. He coached football, basketball and track. He also had a long career of refereeing volleyball, basketball and football, receiving an honor for 50 years in 2018.
In the summer months, Gil was Camp Manager at Camp Mary Dell in Abilene.
He was married to Marge Green for 68 years and had three children. He is survived by his wife, two daughters, Nancy Hawley (Michael) of San Diego, CA and Lori Schartz of Wichita, KS.
They have four grandchildren and two great grandchildren, and other friends and relatives.

Obituary Preview: William R. “Bill” Gillespie passed March 8, 2024 surrounded by family and friends and in the loving care of Home Health and Hospice of Dickinson County and Abilene Memorial Hospital staff who treated him like family. Bill was born March 16, 1949 in Marysville, Kansas the son of Robert U and Ethel E. (Brandt) Gillespie. After living briefly in Waterville, his family moved to Abilene and he attended local schools. After graduating Abilene High School in 1967, Bill’s work centered around his passion of cars and automotive repair including Sinclair/Ambulance Service for True Meserve, John’s Conoco (now John’s Service) for John Dunlap, Civil Service at Fort Riley, Service Manager at Green Ford, Owner of Bill’s Kerr McGee, and Owner of Bill’s Texaco. During retirement, he worked part-time for NAPA Auto Parts. In all of this work, he enjoyed being helpful and making friends along the way.
Bill enjoyed camping and boating, was a proud sponsor of youth baseball teams, was active in Masonic Lodge #559, was an ambassador for Isis Shrine, serving in the Clown Unit, and Member of Elks Lodge #1675. Bill attended the Demolition Derby reunion in 2014 and was proud to share his 1978 Championship stories with his grandkids.
Bill married Thelma Dolton in 1970, later divorcing. Bill married Cindy Atkinson in 1998. Bill is survived by son Rob Gillespie (Rhonda) of Lawrence and their children Jacob Gillespie and Jenna Gillespie; daughter Lori Wilson (Brad) of Tonganoxie and their children Brandon Wilson and Kate Wilson and his sister Lola Needham (Wade) of Abilene. He was preceded in death by two infant brothers, his parents, wife Cindy, and sister Charlotte (Reeves) Larson.

Obituary Preview: Kim Michelle Lake of Abilene, KS died February 22, 2024, from complications of Primary Progressive Multiple Sclerosis.
Kim was born on October 18, 1959, in Abilene, KS to Bernice (Barlow) Davis Abbott. Kim was adopted by Robert Davis and his loving family after the union of Robert and Bernice.
Kim lived her entire life in Abilene, graduating from Abilene High School in 1977. Kim attended Cloud Community College.
On July 19, 1980, Kim married James Ray Lake. Jim and Kim had two children, Jeremy Ryan Lake and Jessica Robin Lake. The couple were married for 43 years.
Kim worked for Duckwall ALCO for 34 years until its closing in 2015. In 2015, Kim started working remotely for Orscheln Farm and Home as a PC Technician. Kim made many lifelong friends while working. She medically retired on April 29, 2022.
Kim enjoyed working in her flower garden, watching the Kansas City Chiefs with Jim’s grandma, Leona Stammeyer, listening to Elvis tunes, fishing at Milford Lake, spending time with her brothers and sisters and playing with her children and grandchildren.
Kim and Jessica had grand adventures across the US; diamond mining, hot air ballooning, gambling in Las Vegas, shopping at the US’s largest mall, sampling teas at Celestial Seasonings, emerald and ruby mining in the Carolina’s, attending renaissance festivals, whitewater rafting, touring national parks, camping and horseback riding in the Colorado mountains, viewing movies, dinner theaters, Broadway plays, and zoo trips.
Kim is survived by husband Jim; daughter Jessica; three grandchildren; Brianna Lake , Kohen Luchsinger, and Bryce Dickerman and three great granddaughters; Lavaeh Burdine, Palmer and Aurora Moffith; siblings; Chris (Roxie) Davis of Salina KS, Lisa (Al) Wal of Chino Valley AZ, Curt (Lori) Davis of Delphos KS and Julie (Dean) Gier of Wichita KS; Mother-in-law Vivian Lake, sister-in-law Kimberly Lake, many loved family members, and Shaun the beloved family dog.
Kim was preceded in death by her parents; stepfather, Allen Abbott; grandparents OC and Elma Barlow & Darrell and Arlene Davis; son, Jeremy; brother, Mark A. Davis; father-in-law, James E. Lake; infant nephew, Jacob Driver; and several aunts and uncles.
Memorials may be made to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention or Dickinson County Home Health and Hospice and may be sent in care of the Danner Funeral Home, 501 N. Obituary Preview: Kaye Frances Eveleth (Murphy) 83 of Abilene, left her earthly life on February 22, 2024 at Memorial Hospital in Abilene. Kaye was born April 30, 1940 in Long Beach California to Warren and Melva (Fisher) Murphy. Kaye grew up in Dickinson County and attended Chapman High School graduating with the class of 1958.
Kaye met her husband to be on a blind date and following graduation from high school John Alvin Eveleth and Kaye were married on October 26, 1958. To this union three sons were born. Warren Kent Eveleth, Terry Lee Eveleth, and Perry Dee Eveleth who died at birth.
Kaye was active in the Order of the Eastern Star for over 50 years and served several times as Worthy Grand Martha. For over 40 years as a member of the Daughters of the Nile serving as Queen in 1994. Kaye and John were enjoyed traveling for the ISIS Shrine for many years. Kaye and John were members of Emanuel Church in Abilene.
Kaye had worked for 17 years at Vacu-Blast, and 17 years at the Duckwall-Alco warehouse. She also filled in as receptionist and Waitress at Brown Memorial Home, and Frontier Estates as well as helping her son Kent at the Shamrock Cafe in Chapman.
Surviving Kaye are here sons, Warren “Kent” of Abilene and Terry Eveleth of McFarland, Kansas. Kaye was preceded in death by her parents and her husband John and Infant son Perry. Memorial services for Kaye will be held Thursday February 29th, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. at the Danner Funeral Home 501 N. Buckeye. The family will receive friends from 9:00 to 10:00 preceding the service at the funeral home. Inurnment will follow the service at the Abilene Cemetery. Tom was born in Rome, Georgia on January 15, 1942, and graduated from South Gate High School in California, in 1960. Tom loved to bowl and was part of a junior bowling team where he would travel all over California. During his life he bowled a perfect game on multiple occasions, throughout the world. Tom was enlisted in the Army in 1964 where he served for 22 years in various jobs including Material Control and Accounting Specialist, Military Police, and Subsistence Supply Specialist. He traveled all over the world. Tom was united in marriage to Linda McCarty on August 14, 1971 in Las Vegas, Nevada, before moving to Abilene, Kansas. After retiring from the Army, he spent 15 years as a security guard at the Eisenhower Presidential Library.
Tom was preceded in death by his loving wife of 52 years, Linda E. Padgett.
He is survived by his son Michael (Trina) McCarty of Manhattan, KS, daughter Mary (Dennis) Van Dorn of McPherson, KS, grandchildren Ashton (Jeff) Reitz, Zachery Van Dorn, Brian (Allie) McCarty, Ethan (Kaylee) Van Dorn, Shannon McCarty and 5 great grandchildren, Liliana Reitz, Averie Reitz, Chandler Reitz, Kadence Van Dorn, Halstyn McCarty. Luther worked as a butcher and baker before serving his country in the United States Army for 15 years attaining the rank of Sergeant. He was a member of the Community Bible Church and enjoyed building and racing RC cars and doing crossword puzzles.
On April 27, 1974 he was united in marriage to Teresa McCook in Kansas City, Missouri. Teresa survives of the home. Other survivors include his daughters Brandi Marie Cross (Reggie) of El Dorado, Arkansas, Kimberli Anne Hoette (Chris) of St. Peters, Missouri, brothers Randy Griffin, Leslie Griffin of Kansas City, Missouri, three grandchildren Devin Triplet, Joshua Cross, Jonathan Hoette, and three great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Obituary Preview: James “Jim” Baker, Jr. of Abilene, Kansas passed away surrounded by those who loved him at Village Manor Nursing Home on 01/26/2024. Jim survived cortical basal degenerative disease years passed expectations lifespan partly due to the care he received from his children, son in law, grandchildren as well as Dickinson County Home Health. He was known to walk multiple times day throughout the park with his dog Tony, searching for treasures keeping him active. He loved to visit with those who brought his meals on wheels each day as well. Jim never met a stranger and always spoke to those who passed him. He was a KC Chiefs and K-State Wildcats fan!
Jim was born on 12/23/1953, in Salina, KS to James Baker Sr. and Joy Koerner. Jim spent his adult life following in his stepfather Ron’s career path of a meat cutter/market manager at Dillons where Jim served since the early 1970’s. Jim did open Augusta Meat and Deli Shop in the 1990’s prior to him returning back to Dillons where he eventually retired.
Jim spent his retirement years in Abilene close to his children attending his grandchildren’s activities watching his granddaughters Shaylee and Malee’ dance, sing and be sassy. His grandson Lockett loved watching the black and white westerns with his Grandpa. Grandpa didn’t mind sitting in the summer heat watching Shaylee and Lockett play ball too. Jim had recently learned to FaceTime with his youngest granddaughter, Norah watching her grow and babble about her day.
Jim was preceded in death by his mother Joy Koerner, step father Ron Koerner, and sister Tracy Wines, his Grandma Grace who was so special to him he bought his first house next door to her! He is survived by his father James Baker, Sr. and wife Rosie Enid, OK. Sisters Cory Baker, Sherry Baker both of Augusta, KS. Brothers Mitch Koerner Derby, KS, Donnie Koerner of Hays, KS.
His favorite son, Stace Baker and his wife Sarah of Clay Center, KS. Daughter aka his own “Nurse” Sherree’ and her husband, Jim’s “Tech Man” Curtis Osland of Abilene, KS. Daughter, “hoghead” Alexa and son in law Jeff Nathan of Maryland. Jim has “big” grandchildren too, Samantha and her husband Jeremy Nunweiler as well as 2 great grandchildren of Abilene, KS. Adam Osland and Jasmine Seiler of Manhattan, KS. He was very proud of his children and shared that with them even in his final days. He always taught us kids to work hard as he enjoyed traveling and the only way to travel is to work hard.
As a family of our Dad we would like to thank Dr. Holmes, DK County Hospice and specifically all of the staff of hall 5 at Village Manor for the love and care you gave our Dad over the past several months and the care you gave us as we navigate this journey.
Funeral service will be Friday February 2nd, 2024 at 10am, Danner Funeral Home in Abilene, KS. Burial to follow at Elmwood Cemetery in Augusta, KS. Memorials contributions may be given for the future Hospice Room at Village Manor. Other memorials may be given to Meals on Wheels of Dickinson County.

Obituary Preview: Sharon’s life began on September 23, 1941, in Herington. She is the daughter of Harry and Elsie (Brockmeier) Schlesener. Sharon is a 1959 graduate of Herington High School and attended St. Paul’s Lutheran School. She was united in marriage to Larry D. Senner in December of 1959 at the St. Paul’s Church. Sharon worked in the banking industry starting as a teller and working her way up to Vice-President of Citizen’s State Bank in Abilene. She enjoyed traveling with Larry, her friends, and family. During retirement, Sharon and Larry liked to test their luck at the casinos. She is fondly remembered as an outstanding gardener, taking care of the lawn, and being a great neighbor. Sharon loved to do crafts and with her sister Shirley took their crafts to shows across the state of Kansas. She was a strong and determined woman, wife, aunt, and friend. Sharon is survived by her husband Larry and siblings Glen Schlesener and Donna Jean (Dale) Koontz and several nieces and nephews. Sharon passed away on Saturday, January 20, 2023, at Memorial Health System in Abilene, Kansas. She is preceded in death by her parents, sisters Shirley Longabaugh and Carolyn Stewart. Sharon’s family has selected cremation. There will be no services. A private inurnment will be at a later date. On November 4, 1977, he married Patricia Lundberg in Manhattan, Kansas. Lonnie and Patty raised four magnificent children. They were the loves of his life. He opened his business, Modern Plumbing, LLC, in 1979. He spent many years working with friends and family. He retired in 2017, after receiving a cancer diagnosis. He loved the community that supported him throughout the years. His son, Jessie, still runs the family business.
Lonnie enjoyed spending time with his family. He especially enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, playing pool and cards. He never missed an opportunity to take a fishing trip to Canada with his boys and friends. Any time spent outdoors with loved ones was time well spent.
Lonnie was preceded in death by his parents and his parents-in-law, Lenos and Regina Lundberg. He is survived by his wife Patty of the home, his daughter Jamie Hodges of Abilene, his sons David (Angela) and Jessie of Abilene, and Joshua (Kyra) of Garnett, KS. He leaves behind nine grandchildren: Ashley (Jose) Albarron, Ethan, Dalton, Abigail, Logan, Madasin, Natalee, Lenny, and Mila, and two great grandchildren: Elliott and Gabriel. Two brothers, Tim and Jeff, both of Abilene and a sister, Susan Elliott of Manhattan.. He will also be missed by many more loved ones too numerous to name.
A Visitation will be held Tuesday, January 16th, 2024, from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at Danner Funeral Home, 501 N Buckeye, Abilene, KS. A Union Cemetery graveside service is planned for Wednesday, January 17th, 2024 at 10:00 am. The family suggests memorials be made to St. Andrew’s School Building Fund and may be left at Danner Funeral Home.

Sally married Arlo Delay in 1956. He preceded her in death in January of 1980. She married Dan Thomas in 1981. He preceded her in death in 2015.
Sally will be remembered by family and friends as a kind, caring person who devoted her time and energy to many local charities and organizations.
Sally is survived by her son Kenneth (Nancy) Delay and her daughter Deb (Trent) Taylor all of Abilene, brother Jim (Barb) Farber, Lincoln, NE, sister Ruth McCord, Fairbury, NE, grandchildren Chris (Jenna) Delay, Abilene, Ted (Joy) Delay, Jacksonville, FL, Kyle (Brendan) Taylor, San Jose, CA, Cody (Danielle) Taylor, Abilene, 9 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at First Christian Church on Saturday, January 13 at 11:00. Visitation will be at Danner Funeral Home on Friday, January 12 from 5:30 to 7:00. Memorial contributions may be made to Meals on Wheels.

Obituary Preview: Keith Hiatt Rogers was born on Jan. 5th, 1926 in Montrose, Kansas. He was the youngest of 11 children born to Oscar and Inda (Hiatt) Rogers. Keith was a WWII veteran, serving in the Pacific and earning numerous medals including the Purple Heart. After returning from war, Keith married the love of his life, Doris Leona Lamb, of Northbranch, Kansas on Aug. 6, 1950. Keith had 3 children, Rose Rogers, Deanna Walters, and Keith Eugene Rogers (all of Abilene), grandchildren Shawn Walters (Mindy) of Boise, Idaho, and Amanda Aguon, Abilene, as well as great grandchild Jasper Aguon, Abilene.
Keith owned grocery stores in Mankato,Ks. and Burr Oak, Ks. for a time and eventually moved with his wife and children to Abilene where he started working at Viola's Grocery store and then worked at the Commissary in Fort Riley, Kansas until retirement. Being a hard worker and not being one to take retirement easily, Keith came out of retirement several more times over the years and worked at Zey's Grocery Store as their Meatcutter as well as painting houses. Keith was a member of the United Methodist Church in Abilene and was actively involved in matters of Camp Mary Dell, eventually having Rogers Hall named for him as he had built the building along with Richard Reitz. He was preceeded in death by his wife Doris, his daughter Rose, and his son Keith Eugene. He is survived by his daughter Deanna, grandkids Shawn and Amanda,and grandchild Jasper.

Karen married James L. Kamm July 2, 1968 in Talmage, KS. Nearly all of their married life was spent in the Talmage area. Karen was a devoted farm wife, and mother, helping where needed on the farm while also raising greyhounds. Karen loved spending time outdoors, especially with James out at the lake.
Karen loved sewing and woodworking projects and prided herself on being a do it yourself person, loving the challenges that came from those projects. Karen’s real love in life were her grandchildren. She loved attending sporting events, 4-H activities, and watching the kids; instilling the same do it yourself attitude in them.
Karen is survived by her daughter Tanya (Mark) Hagedorn of Talmage and a sister Rita Morgan of Wichita, KS. Three grandchildren Jacob ( Holley) Hagedorn, Abilene, Hannah Hagedorn, Lawrence, Jessica Hagedorn, Manhattan and Brayden Kamm of Warrensburg, MO, and great grandson Braxton Hagedorn. Karen was preceded in death by her husband James Kamm, son Travis Kamm and brother Marvin Mustard. Larry learned auto mechanics while serving his country and upon discharge from the army continued as a mechanic as his profession.
Larry was a huge fan of Roy Rogers, Dale Evans, Trigger and Buttermilk. He also was a TV western buff, his favorite sports were baseball and basketball. Larry had several cars but enjoyed riding his bicycle the most.
Larry is survived by his daughter Wendy Wyckoff and her husband Jason of Ramona, Kansas and his mother Mary Cosby of Burlington Iowa. Larry is also survived by a sister Nadine Odell of Oregon, 2 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Judy Wyckoff.
Honoring Larry’s wishes the family has selected cremation and there will be no services.

Gary worked for Griffith and Robson Oil Company for 42 years. He enjoyed delivering gas to many farmers and friends. Gary made many friends along the way.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Max and Phyllis, grandparents, Son-in-law Kodi Fulton, sister-in-law Dorothy Engle, Brother-in-laws Kenneth and Roy Walters, Albert Miller, Mother-in-law Joy Walters, Father-in-law Harold Walters.
Gary is survived by wife Lois Fitzwater, brother Marlin (Melinda) Fitzwater, 3 children: Lorie (Kevin) Sickler, Mike (Angi) Fitzwater, and Sherry Fulton, 4 grandchildren: Lindsey Hamm, Ashley Fields, Nicole Knox, and Kyle Fulton, 4 great grandchildren: Madalee, Averee, and Elinee Fields, and Allie Hamm, and 4 special doggy friends: Rainee, Boomer, Coco and Tellulah.
