Mary E. Predel - March 12, 1932 - March 18, 2024

Departed: 03/18/2024 (Schenectady)
Obituary Preview: Mary Elizabeth Predel Rexford - Mary Elizabeth Predel (née Weatherwax), 92, entered into eternal rest on March 16, 2024, 3 weeks after complications from a fall.
Born on March 12, 1932, in Rotterdam Junction, NY, she lived a full and blessed life. She was the widow of the late Thaddeus A. Predel, who predeceased her in love and life.
A matriarch to her family, Mary is survived by her devoted children John (Pamela Nunziato) Paige Jr., Joseph (JoAnn) Paige, Jeffrey A. Paige, and Jody (Deborah) Paige. She was a cherished grandmother to 13, a proud great-grandmother to 17, and a delighted great-great-grandmother to one. She now joins in Heaven her late parents Jennie Ann Pritchard and Walter Joseph Weatherwax, her beloved husband Thaddeus, her sons Jerry and James Paige, and her granddaughter Audrey Paige.
Mary liked to say that "she was born a junkie and would die a junkie" but her lifestyle had nothing to do with drugs or alcohol. She literally meant junk. She would fondly recall summer days in her youth where she would trail behind her father as he visited farms asking for paper, rags, or iron. Predel was the 12th of 15 children and her father started picking up scrap in the Great Depression to help feed his family.
When she was a child, Mary's father sold scrap to T.A. Predel. Years later, when Mary was a divorced mother of 6 who needed a job, "Mr. Predel" hired her as a bookkeeper in 1962. In 1976, Mary remarried, and became part-owner of T.A. Predel and company. After Thaddeus's death on Christmas Day 1988, she ran the business until it was sold in November 2018. 56 years as an employee and 30 years as the head of a major company, is a career that is remarkable for a woman of that time. Working in downtown Schenectady would only be part of her life's work and on Feb 10, 2000, she set her sights on her farm and opened Predel's Ranch. A quaint farm store that would sell farm raised eggs, meat, and other delectables such as pies and spreads. It was a perennial host of Farm Fest which delighted many families in the area. She would often leave one business just to drive and run the other in the same day, not a usual activity for a woman in her 80s!
Her commitment to work was only in competition with her commitment to faith. Settling into Clifton Park, Mary was a pillar of the Shenendehowa United Methodist Church, where she was a major contributor both in work and in philanthropy. Her donations lead to the completion of the churches' room, multiple stained-glass pieces, and general support. Her time was spent on almost every position in the church as well as a representative to many United Methodist national conventions. Her faith was a huge influence on those inside and outside of her family.
The Paige family extends their gratitude to the Daly Funeral Home for their compassionate assistance with the funeral arrangements. Friends and relatives are invited to pay their respects and celebrate Mary's life. Calling hours Friday evening 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Daly Funeral Home, Inc. 242 McClellan St., Schenectady, NY 12304 Funeral service Saturday morning March 23, 2024, 9 a.m. at the Shenendehowa United Methodist Church, 971 NY-146, Clifton Park, NY 12065
Interment Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery, Niskayuna.

Martin F. Quinn - December 08, 1960 - February 25, 2024

Departed: 02/25/2024 (Schenectady)
Obituary Preview: Martin “Marty” Quinn, (63), of Schenectady, NY, passed away on Sunday, February 25th, 2024. Marty was a larger-than-life character who was well known for his infectious sense of humor and fun-loving attitude. As a lifelong culinary professional, working in both food sales and as an executive chef, his passing sent shockwaves throughout Capital Region restaurant communities. Additionally, anyone slated to receive one of his famous cakes will be sorely disappointed.
Growing up in Schenectady, from an early age, Marty was known for his athletic prowess. Whether it be baseball, basketball, hockey, football, golf, Marty was a competitor. Outside of competition, he was a dedicated fan of the Minnesota Vikings, Cincinnati Reds and occasionally the Yankees, Giants, Bills, or whoever was hosting the party.
Marty spent most of his adult life and raised his children in Saratoga Springs, quickly becoming a fixture at the races. He formed relationships with trainers, horsemen, movers and shakers, gaining access to the most exclusive experiences at the race course. For him, family birthdays, addresses, and phone numbers were all worthwhile numbers on a betting ticket.
Marty also had a great love of music. His mind was an encyclopedia of rock and roll lyrics and he always knew someone who could get prime tickets to SPAC concerts. Additionally, many have remarked on his air-guitar capabilities.
There is no doubt the spaces Marty so lovingly occupied will be a little colder with him gone. Our stomachs will be emptier, our lives a little less full of laughter, and Canadian Club bottles will be a little fuller.
Marty is survived by his partner AnnMarie Kinzel, three sons, Jack (Melissa), Andrew (Abby) and Thomas and granddaughter, Mia Quinn. Additionally, his five siblings, Jack (Sally) Quinn, Pam (Roger) Press, Dennis (Marcy) Quinn, Susan (Bart) Pastiglione, identical twin brother Mark (Christine) Quinn and his many, beloved nieces and nephews.

Penney Pagones - October 20, 1944 - February 19, 2024

Departed: 02/19/2024 (Schenectady)
Obituary Preview: Latham - In the early morning hours of Monday, February 19th, Penney Pagones left this life as peacefully as she lived it, at the age of 79. She leaves a legacy of kindness, warmth and generosity and her memory is already a comfort and inspiration to the family and friends she leaves behind.
Penney was born on October 20, 1944 in Schenectady, New York as a middle child, to Peter and Sophie Corsones and spent her entire life within a few miles of her birthplace. Those early years helped foster what became a lifelong appreciation of faith, via the Greek Orthodox Church and family through the close bonds formed with her loving sisters, Georgia (Peter) Chamberas and Demetra Corsones.
Penney's future happiness was set before she realized it, when she agreed to attend a wedding in Syracuse, New York. There she met Peter Pagones, who she would marry on November 9, 1969 and with whom she would enjoy 54 years of marriage. Motherhood and a sense of fulfillment followed soon after their wedding with the births of their children, Elaina and Damian. She instilled in them values of honesty, caring and a fierce loyalty to those they love, that has resulted in deep friendships that they benefit from, to this day.
In her life Penney held several jobs but they were all taken in furtherance of her true passion…Family. It was within the family context that she held all the titles of significance to her life; daughter, sister, wife, aunt, grandmother (yia yia) and friend.
After working with Peter to help raise two wonderful children, her welcoming nature extended to their non-Greek spouses; Susan (Damian) Pagones and Stephen (Elaina) Rayburn to whom she expressed a mother's love and treated as if they were her genuine children and considered honorary Greeks.
Penney took great joy from her involvement with The Greek Orthodox church. Over the years she was a valued member of the Philoptocos Society, lent her voice to the choir and spent hours each September manning the food line at the Greek festival. She always enjoyed traveling with Peter and visited casinos across the country from Las Vegas to Atlantic City. She had a talent for Greek cooking and Orthodox Easter will not be the same without her avgolemono soup that was a highlight of the holiday meal or the Easter eggs that acquired their distinctive red hue from her tireless efforts obtaining onion skins from the Price Chopper near her home. Her grandchildren (James, Kaelyn, Sophia, Clare and Sam) have fond memories of waking on their birthdays to hear their names called over the radio, and on more than one occasion, to win a cake from a local bakery. While birthdays were special, nothing says "yia yia" to the grandchildren quite like a personalized wish on their name day. Her proud smile was a constant presence at countless sporting events, dance and music recitals and awards ceremonies over the years. Despite her natural spirit of selfless giving, Penney had a mischievous side and was not above placing hexes on opponents in games of Yahtzee. It is also a poorly kept secret that her purse carried out more than its share of orange marmalade packets from local diners. She loved bunnies, the color yellow, the scent of lilacs and superstitious rituals like tossing pocket change on the floors of new cars to protect from accidents.
Penney is also survived by her sister-in-law, Trudi (Brad) Hennmuth as well as beloved nieces and nephews (Thomas, Sophia, Evan, Jason and Randy).
The family cannot imagine enduring this challenging time without the extraordinary attention and care provided by Damian's in-laws, Jeff and Kathy Uzzilia as well as the Albany Med ICU personnel, who through their sincere compassion, lessened the pain of what was a trying experience for all involved.
Funeral services will be held at St. George's Greek Orthodox Church in Schenectady at 12 noon on Monday, February 26th and all who knew Penney are welcome. There will be a brief viewing at Daly Funeral Home from 11-11:30 am prior to the funeral. Interment Parkview Cemetery.
