Mary Catherine Langenbach - Unknown - February 08, 2022

Departed: 02/08/2022 (Kenmore)
Obituary Preview: LANGENBACH – Mary Catherine
It is with extreme sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Aunt Mary Catherine Langenbach on February 8, 2022 after a year-long illness.   Mary was born in Kenmore, NY on February 17, 1934, and she was reunited in death with her parents, Catherine R. Langenbach and Leo Langenbach, and her brothers Joseph (Charlotte) and Michael Langenbach. We are all saddened by her loss. During her year-long health battle, her fight to get better was like no other.  She surprised her family and the medical community as well.
Aunt Mary is survived by the eight nieces and nephews she adored. Michelle MaCove (Craig), Michael Langenbach, Jr., Matthew Langenbach, Mark Langenbach, Susan Hushaw (Dwayne), Maureen Langenbach, Marcie Langenbach-Mitchell (David), and Melissa (Colin) Hilton.  She also leaves behind thirteen great nieces and nephews, Sarah Beguiristain, Michael and Madison Macove, Allana Langenbach, Erin and Nolan Mitchell, Dylan, Ryan, Colin, and Liam Hushaw, and Shane, Evan and Adam Hilton.
Mary was born and raised in Kenmore, and was a proud resident of Western NY for 87 years. She attended St. Paul’s Country Day School in Kenmore and she graduated from Mount St. Mary of Kenmore.  She loved the beauty that Kenmore and Western New York had to offer, and never had plans to leave. Mary had a wonderful career with Bell Telephone Company (now Verizon) and after 40 years of service, she retired at an early age as a way to enjoy her life!  She was a dedicated member of the St. Paul’s Choir at the Church in Kenmore, where she sang for over 30 years. Mary was also a volunteer at Artpark for the span of several years.  Mary loved to bake, she was an avid reader and she spent years creating award-winning needlepoint pictures.  She especially loved to travel to Las Vegas to visit her family. She was a phenomenal best friend to Jean and Nancy, and she adored her time with the members of her weekly craft club.  More than anything she loved her dogs.
Our family will miss the traditions that Mary was able to keep alive after our parents’ passing.  We will continue to gather as a family and share the amazing foods that have been made for over 80 years.  Our favorite was her potato salad, but we will definitely never forget Mary’s chocolate chip cookies either.  As we say goodbye to the matriarch of our family and the last living relative born a Langebach in that generation, we will miss sitting in Mary’s house on cold winter days, and watching it snow while the fireplace warmed our hearts. We will surely miss taking long walks on the Riverwalk in Tonawanda in the summer while enjoying ice cream.  We will miss the never-ending, repeated stories she shared of her childhood and the traditions her parents instilled within her. We will think about her always, as we continue these precious traditions with our families.
Thank you, Aunt Mary for being a great example to us.  With you leaving, our hearts are broken, but we know how blessed we are because you loved us!  We are so happy you are finally at peace. In remembrance of Mary, volunteer your time to those in need. Everyone can use a little help.
A private family service for Mary will be held in July, 2022. Please share condolences at www.GinnaneFuneralHome.com

Why are obituaries important?

Obituaries serve as a way to inform friends, family, and community members of a person's passing, allowing them to pay their respects and offer condolences. They also provide a sense of closure and help to celebrate the life of the deceased.

Who typically writes an obituary?

Obituaries are usually written by family members or close friends of the deceased, although some funeral homes or newspapers may offer assistance with writing and publishing the obituary.

What information should be included in an obituary?

A typical obituary includes the person's name, age, date of birth and death, and a brief biography. It may also include information about their family, occupation, hobbies, achievements, and funeral or memorial service arrangements.

How long should an obituary be?

The length of an obituary can vary depending on the publication or online platform, but it's generally recommended to keep it concise and focused on the most important details. Aim for 100-200 words.

Can I include photos or other multimedia in an obituary?

Yes, many online obituary platforms and some newspapers allow you to include photos, videos, or other multimedia elements to enhance the tribute to your loved one.

How do I submit an obituary to a newspaper?

Contact the newspaper's obituary department directly to inquire about their submission process and any specific requirements they may have. Be prepared to provide the necessary information and payment for publication.

Can I publish an obituary online?

How do I handle sensitive or private information in an obituary?

Can I include charitable donations or memorial funds in an obituary?

Yes, many families choose to include information about charitable donations or memorial funds in lieu of flowers. This can be a meaningful way to honor your loved one's memory and continue their legacy.

How do I proofread and edit an obituary before publication?

Carefully review the text for accuracy, grammar, and spelling errors. Consider having multiple family members or friends review it as well before submitting it for publication.

What if I need to make corrections to an already-published obituary?

Contact the publication or platform where the obituary was published as soon as possible to report any errors. They may be able to correct it online or issue a correction in a future print edition.

Can I reuse an obituary from one publication in another?

You may need to obtain permission from the original publisher or author before reusing an obituary in another publication. Be sure to check copyright laws and permissions before sharing it elsewhere.

How do I preserve an obituary for future generations?

You can save a physical copy of the newspaper clipping or print out a digital version. Consider creating a scrapbook or memory book with other mementos and keepsakes related to your loved one.

Can I use social media to share an obituary?

Yes! Social media can be a powerful tool for sharing news of a loved one's passing with friends and family who may not have access to traditional newspapers. You can share a link to the online obituary or post a summary with relevant details.

What if I'm struggling to write an obituary due to grief or emotional distress?

It's completely understandable! Consider seeking help from a trusted friend, family member, or professional writer who can assist you in crafting a beautiful tribute to your loved one. Take your time, and don't hesitate to ask for support when needed.

Are there any specific guidelines for writing an obituary for someone who died under unusual circumstances?

In cases where the death was sudden, unexpected, or involved sensitive circumstances (e.g., suicide), it's essential to approach the writing process with compassion and sensitivity. Focus on celebrating the person's life and avoiding sensational details that might cause further distress for loved ones.

Can I include quotes, lyrics, or poetry in an obituary?

Absolutely! Incorporating meaningful quotes, lyrics, or poetry can add depth and emotion to the tribute. Choose pieces that resonate with your loved one's personality, interests, or values.

How do I ensure that an online obituary remains accessible over time?

Select online platforms that have a proven track record of preserving content over time. You can also consider saving a copy of the obituary locally on your computer or printing it out for safekeeping.
