Obituary Preview: Patricia (Pat) Ann Hamnett Gerheim, age 84, of Leechburg, entered eternal rest on July 11, 2023, at Forbes Regional Hospital after an unexpected accident. She was born June 24, 1939 to Florence and Bernard Andrews Hamnett, in St. Catherines, Ontario, Canada. Pat spent her entire life serving others; her husband, entire extended family, patients she treated, and countless children who she shepherded through numerous volunteer organizations.
Pat graduated from St. Michael’s Hospital in Toronto as a Registered Nurse, and began her career in St. Catherines and at the Easter Seals Camp. She continued nursing in San Francisco, CA in 1961, and, in 1963 she moved to Washington DC, where she met her husband, Michael Lee (“Mike”) Gerheim, on Valentines Day, 1964. Patricia enjoyed cooking and baking, planning family events, and planting gardens, and native trees and shrubs for pollinators and wildlife. She loved to zip around at top speed on her tractor, while mowing grass and listening to her favorite tunes on Pandora. At 84, she even kept the property neat with her own chainsaw!
