Panfilo was a true embodiment of gratitude and kindness. His unwavering love and support for his family and friends was his top priority. Raised on “El Organo” Ranch in San Luis Potosi, Mexico, he learned to appreciate life's simple pleasures at an early age. His love story of over 50 years of marriage with his devoted wife and true-life partner Daria was nothing short of beautiful. Together they raised five children; Marcos, Jose Juan, Rogelio, Maria Luisa and Panfilo, with values that centered around kindness and perseverance.
He was a true inspiration to all who knew him and a reminder that the power of faith can move mountains. He served as an example to his children and grandchildren always offering support, a kind word, or even laughter. He was incredibly hard working and held fast to the values of dedication, integrity and honesty.
In his retirement, Panfilo continued to be a source of guidance and mentorship to his loved ones, and he cherished every moment spent with his family, especially his ten grandchildren. His unwavering love and joy for life were always evident in his eyes, smile, and laughter.
A year ago, Panfilo faced health issues. He accepted this with grace and bravery and knew that he would always be watching over his loved ones from heaven. His life was a true celebration of the joys and beauty that it has to offer. The world was a better place because he was in it. His family will carry him in their hearts always and live by the incredible example that he provided. He will be truly missed but will always be present. His light will shine even more brightly now leading the way for all who loved him so dearly. Obituary Preview: Kenneth J. Fanella, 70, of Hometown. Born April 19, 1953 to Salvatore and Carolyn (Fontana) Fanella. Passed on April 6 with his loving partner Patricia Gutowski by his side. Ken was a retired Illinois Department of Transportation employee who worked many holidays and weekends during his long career in all kinds of weather to ensure motorists reached their destinations and made it home safely to their loved ones. He was an avid fisherman who in his younger years embraced adventure, including skiing and skydiving. He dutifully tended to his home, vegetable garden and perfectly manicured lawn despite the best efforts of his most formidable rival - local rabbits. Ken and Patricia enjoyed three decades together, often traveling to Florida and Lake Como, Wis. to celebrate their April birthdays. In a selfless act of love, he took great care of Patricia during her battle with cancer despite his own health issues. Ken was a self-made man who wasn't shy about sharing his opinion about life and politics. Besides fishing and travel, he loved sharing an Old Style with buddies and his favorite bartenders, thinking up good-natured April Fool's jokes to play on Patricia and telling corny jokes to his youngest grandchildren. He is survived by Patricia, stepchildren Cindy (Mike) Gutowski, Christy Gutowski and Catherine (Sal) Messina, grandchildren Ryan (Sydney), Kyle, Mila and Franco, his middle brother John (Linda) Fanella, sister-in-law Thelma (Patrick) Fanella, nephew Patrick Fanella Jr. and niece Lori (Edward) Donnelly and great nieces, great nephews, cousins and others, including best friend John Anderson. Ken was preceded in death by his parents, oldest brother Patrick W. Fanella, Sr. and many other loved ones.
