Jimmie Ann Graves-Edwards - December 07, 1941 - December 30, 2023

Departed: 12/30/2023 (St. Louis)
Obituary Preview: Jimmie Ann Graves- Edwards was born on December 7, 1941, in Jackson, Mississippi. She was the first of two children born to the union of James Oliver and Anna Marie Rudd. Her parents, two sons, Andre K. Graves and Roche' D.
Graves, aunt, Ernestine R. Patton, mother-in law, Mary E. Edwards, special nephew, Joseph Dumas, and best friend, Louise Nicholas, all preceded her in death.
Jimmie Ann was baptized at Christ The King Catholic Church in Jackson, Mississippi which she attended throughout her life while living in Mississippi. After moving to St. Louis, Missouri, she attended St. Elizabeth Mother of John the Baptist Catholic Church then St. Alphonsus Liguori "Rock" Catholic Church. Jimmie Ann received her education in the Jackson Public Schools. She was a graduate of Jim Hill High School, class of 1959, where she was a drum major leading the High School band. Jimmie Ann was a scholar and pursued a career in education at Jackson State University where she received a bachelor's degree, a master's degree, a specialist degree, and continued work on her Ph.D. in education. She was also a majorette during her under undergraduate years with the Jackson State Band, "The Sonic Boom of The South."
Jimmie Ann was an educator. She was cherished and respected highly among her academic colleagues and students. She loved children, teaching, and taught elementary school in the Jackson Public School System for more than 20 years. After raising and educating her children, Jimmie Ann retired and joined her family in St. Louis and continued her career teaching in the Ferguson-Florissant School District. Jimmie Ann was a loving and devoted mother. She was a sweet, down to earth, cool, and fun-loving mom that everyone wished they could have. She was patient, a good listener, easy to talk to, and if you needed advice, or someone to confide in, she was always there. But don't get it confused, or she would "get you told" when necessary. She set the boundaries, made them clear, and you knew not to cross them, "you understand," as she always said. In other words, "don't you try it." Her children meant the world to her. She made no distinction between biological, step, chosen, or grandchildren. She treated them all the same, making each one feel special and loved. Jimmie Ann was a beautiful woman inside and out. A
lady of grace. She exemplified a kind, loving, and thoughtful spirit. And was generous to a fault, always willing to give a helping hand to those in need. After a time of living in St. Louis, Jimmie Ann met and fell in love with John William Edwards, Jr. She entered into Holy matrimony with the love of her life, on September 3, 2016, and had the wedding of her dreams. Jimmie Ann and Johnny had a beautiful relationship, a special bond that many couples wish for. They enjoyed all the same things and were inseparable. They were soulmates, a match made in Heaven. As Johnny described it, they were a perfect team, a circle with no scratches. He brought a joy into her world that she never experienced, making her very happy. She loved that man!
And he sure loved her.
Johnny showed her the world literally. She traveled extensively with her beloved Johnny, both domestic and international.
Jimmie Ann enjoyed dancing, going out to eat, amusement parks, botanical gardens, walks in the park, and of course trying her luck at the casinos. But most of all she loved spending time with family and close friends.
On December 30, 2023, Jimmie Ann went home to be with her Heavenly Father and loved ones waiting for her in para-dise. She will be deeply missed.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her loving husband, John William Edwards, Jr., one brother, Leonard G. Oliver (Dorothy), nine stepdaughters, Wavette M. Davis, of Jackson, MS, Darlene Williams (James), of Natchez, MS, Alcinia Pugh, (John), of Jackson, MS, Annette Singleton, of Natchez, MS, Mary Ann Jackson, of Natchez, MS, Dana D.
