Patrick J. Moffett, 73, of Hazel Hurst, passed away Thursday Feb. 4, 2021 at UPMC-Kane.
Born Sept. 7, 1947 in New York, NY, Pat was the youngest son of George King Moffett II and Helen Honan Moffett. Loving grandmother, Mary Honan raised Pat and his brothers (George King III, and John Honan) in Hazel Hurst at the Antler Inn after the passing of three parents early in the boys lives. A family of "entertainers" and "show-people" out of NYC, Broadway and Vaudeville, the Honan-Moffett family would dance, sing, act and pantomime at the Antler for local patrons to the likes never before seen in the small Hazel Hurst area.
After graduating from Smethport High School in 1966, Pat enlisted in the United States Marine Corp. with his best friend Charles "Butch" Gregory. Pat served in Vietnam from January to November in 1968 and received the Vietnam Service Medal with 4 Bronze Stars, Combat Action Ribbon, Navy Unit Commendation with 1 Bronze Star, National Defense Service Medal, and many other awards and certifications. Thank you for your service, sir.
Upon receiving an Honorable discharge from the USMC, Pat was employed for 40 years at Stackpole in Kane, where he made lifelong friendships well into his retirement, which was due to health issues as a result of Agent Orange. He and his best friend from work, Leo, would often meet for breakfast at various restaurants in the area.
Along with his parents and grandmother, Pat was preceded in death by his loving wife of 20 years, Diana Jordan Moffett in 2008 and his oldest brother George King Moffett III in 2016.
Surviving are his daughter, Leslie Helen Moffett of Olean, NY, his brother John Honan Moffett of Mt. Jewett and the apple of his eye, granddaughter Selena C. Clemons of Olean, NY. Also surviving are nieces Courtney Moffett Hooks and Cathy Moffett Kirk of Florida, nephews John Honan Moffett Jr. of Florida and Michael Patrick Moffett of Virginia. and many extended family members and friends who are like family and will miss him for the rest of our days.
A member of the Marine Corp. League and the Mt. Jewett American Legion and VFW, Pat leaves behind a multitude of friends and fellow veterans who he cared very much about and was proud to be affiliated with. Pat was an excellent softball player and bowler and played for different teams in his younger years throughout the Mt. Jewett/Kane area. His unmatched knowledge of sports and athletes was impressive and made him an encyclopedia of sports information. Of course, anyone who knew him knows he was a diehard fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers, the Pittsburgh Pirates and the St. Bonaventure Bonnies through the good, bad and ugly. Pat loved attending sporting events no matter how big or small and was a huge supporter of local youth athletics. He especially enjoyed attending the Bonnies games with Leslie and Selena as a long time season ticket holder.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date to be announced this summer for all of Pat's friends and family to fulfill his wishes for "one hell of a party!". However you may have referred to him....Pat, Patrick, Mr. Moffett, MOF, Muffy or any of the other nicknames he had, you are all welcome to attend this celebration of his wonderful life.
Any memorials in Pat's honor can be made to the Mt. Jewett American Legion, The Mt. Jewett Ambulance Assoc., the McKean County SPCA, the Cattaraugus County SPCA or the Old Friends Senior Dog Sanctuary in Juliet, TN. Pat loved all animals, dogs in particular, and would choose to rescue the one who was always overlooked. Also memorials can be made to any Vietnam Vet Organization.
Daddy....You always said I was your angel, now you are mine. I love you, MOST.
