Absolutely. Pre-planning your cremation services is a thoughtful way to ease the burden on your loved ones and lock in current prices. Our society can assist you in making these arrangements in advance.

What should I do when a loved one passes away?

When a loved one passes away, contact the Cremation Society of the Carolinas immediately. Our staff is available 24/7 to provide instructions and assistance for the next steps.

Are there any additional fees or costs?

Our cremation packages are comprehensive, but there may be additional fees depending on special requests, expedited service needs, or if death occurs outside of our service area. We maintain transparency in our pricing and will explain all potential costs upfront.

Is a casket required for cremation?

A casket is not necessary for cremation. However, we do require an alternative container made of combustible material to maintain dignity during the cremation process. We offer a range of containers to choose from.

How long does the cremation process take?

Cremation itself is a process that typically takes 2-3 hours. The overall timeframe from the passing of the loved one to receiving cremated remains can vary, usually taking a few days to complete all necessary procedures and paperwork.

Can my family witness the cremation?

Yes, we offer the option for family members to be present for the start of the cremation process. This is arranged on a case-by-case basis and can be discussed further with our staff.

What happens with the cremated remains after cremation?

Post-cremation, the remains are processed and placed in an urn or container selected by the family. The cremated remains can then be kept, scattered, or interred according to your wishes.

Can I personalize the cremation service?

Certainly. We encourage families to personalize the services to reflect the life and preferences of their loved one. This can include music, readings, or other personal touches.

Does the Cremation Society of the Carolinas help with obituaries?

Our staff can assist in writing and submitting obituaries to local newspapers and provide guidance on best practices for obituary notices.

Is cremation environmentally friendly?

Cremation is considered more environmentally friendly than traditional burial because it requires less land use and eliminates the need for embalming chemicals. However, some emissions are produced during the cremation process.

Do any religions prohibit cremation?

Certain religions may have specific beliefs or customs related to cremation. We recommend discussing with your religious leader or consulting with our experienced staff to ensure that your cremation services adhere to your personal or religious beliefs.

Can I arrange for a memorial service with the cremation?

Yes, we can help you coordinate a memorial service before or after the cremation. Some families choose to have a service with the urn present, while others may opt for a more traditional service beforehand or a casual gathering after.

Are your services available for pets?

We understand that pets are beloved family members too. While our main services are focused on human cremation, we can provide resources or recommendations for pet cremation services.

How can we ensure the remains we receive are those of our loved one?

We follow a strict chain of custody with rigorous identification procedures to guarantee that the cremated remains you receive are indeed those of your loved one. Our meticulous protocols are designed to provide peace of mind during a difficult time.

Is embalming required for cremation?

Embalming is not required for cremation unless there is a public viewing or a delay in the cremation process. If embalming is not chosen, refrigeration is used to preserve the body until the cremation takes place.

What is the difference between a funeral and a cremation service?

A funeral is a service that typically involves a viewing or visitation with the body of the deceased present, followed by a burial or entombment. A cremation service may take many forms, from a traditional service with the body present to a memorial service with or without the ashes present, or even a simple, direct cremation without a formal ceremony.

Can we scatter the ashes in a public place?

Ash scattering is subject to local laws and regulations. Some public places may require a permit or have restrictions. We advise families to check with the local authorities or ask our staff for guidance regarding ash scattering policies.
