Paul Malcolm Barr - April 16, 1978 - May 07, 2023

Departed: 05/07/2023 (Chesapeake)
Obituary Preview: Paul Malcolm Barr, 45, entered God’s kingdom on May 7, 2023. He was born on April16, 1978, in Chicago, Illinois, to Marie and Malcolm Barr.
Paul, the most loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, son, and brother, is survived by his wife Cheryl; children, Desiree (Scott), Andre, Brandi, and Emily; grandchildren, Robyn, Tyler, Caiden, and Paislee; mother, Marie; siblings, David (Ester),Kelly (James), Mark (JC); three nephews and six nieces. He was preceded in death by his father, Malcolm; grandparents, Oma and Malcolm Sr.; grandfather, Fred Wilcox, Anthony Martinez; and Aunts and Uncles.
Upon graduating from Processer Career Academy, Paul joined the Army to serve his country. After leaving the Army, he joined the Navy to continue serving his country. Paul met the love of his life while home visiting family in Chicago, the woman who stood beside him through thick and thin, Cheryl. Once stationed in Norfolk, Virginia, he left the Navy to work at Norfolk Southern Railroads.
Paul had an infectious smile and laugh for everyone around him. His personality was like no other, and he always looked for the good in everyone. He was a family man, and he’d drop anything he was doing to be there for one of his family members. It wasn’t only family he’d stop to help, and he’d help friends, anyone affiliated with the family in any way, and even strangers on the street. Paul was a giving man; one memory his wife Cheryl finds so special is the day they were on a mini vacation, and a homeless man came up to them and explained he had nothing, not even a shirt. Paul, without hesitation, took the shirt he was wearing, handed it to him, and apologized it was a little big for him.
Paul was truly a great man whose impact will be forever felt by his family, who loves him dearly. He was a selfless man whose passing left an unfillable gap in the hearts of his loved ones. His ability to sacrifice, provide, support, forgive, and love will forever be ingrained in all he knew. Instead of flowers, you might consider making a donation to the family during this difficult time.
