Elizabeth "Betty" Ann Oates - June 15, 1953 - October 11, 2023

Departed: 10/11/2023 (Tecumseh)
Obituary Preview: It is with sadness that we announce the passing of our sister Betty Oates. Sister of Margaret and Nil Parent, Barbara Carlton and Patti Kelly.
To explain the love she shared with her sisters is impossible. Connection, love and support is what she gave them and what they gave to each other.
To her family she was Aunt Betty - always the favourite aunt. She took great interest in all of their lives. She always said "I have 7 children. They just don’t live with me". She was always the biggest cheerleader for Margaret and Nil’s children - Danielle, Geoff (Chante) and Lise (Shane) Parent; Patti’s children - Stuart and Erin (Brandon) Kelly and Barbara’s children - James and Taylor Carlton. She was delighted to become a great aunt to Knox, Vayda and Melo.
She certainly set an example of how to live a life centered on others. This was evident in Betty’s career. It was her dream to be a nurse and with this dream, she touched many lives. In her retirement she supported many families with their aging parents. In a gentle way, she was a gift to those she supported in their final days.
She always had a smile on her face. However, for most of her life, she struggled with her mental health. She fought bravely. Often supporting those struggling as well, she advocated for better understanding and improvement of treatment for people living with the disease. She knew the battle.
In her memory, she would wish for a greater understanding of the realities of mental illness. If so desired, donations to honor Betty's life may be made to the Canadian Mental Health Association (Click Here) and/or by simply showing respect and kindness towards those struggling.
In the end many physical issues seriously compromised her health. She was strong in the face of this decline and chose to take control of her own destiny through MAID.
As per Betty's wishes, cremation has taken place. A celebration of her life will take place on Sunday, October 29, 2023 at St. Angela Centre & Hall, 750 Erie St. E., Windsor, ON from 1-4 p.m with a service to take place at 2 p.m.

Valerie Jean Walter - September 11, 1949 - March 17, 2023

Departed: 03/17/2023 (Tecumseh)
Obituary Preview: Rejoice with me, for I am going home. This is not a time of sadness, but one of thanksgiving, for the promise of eternal life will not be broken. My time on earth was a mere blink in comparison, but it has been cherished. Over the years I have learned that it is not in the big events that we measure our existence, but rather in the small, seemingly mundane things. If I was able to bring a smile to just one person's heart, or some comfort in a time of need, then I leave this world with no regrets.
There are so many people who have touched me deeply, and who I will greatly miss. I pray that I have been able to express what you mean to me. To my dear brother, Donald, who sacrificed so much to make my mom's last years easier, I offer you my everlasting love. To my sisters and brothers-in-law, Colleen (Bernie) Gignac, the late Virgery Vanier, Pat (Dave) Rouffer, the late Marg (Bill) Rukas, your constant love and support has filled me with joy. To my nieces and nephews, Allen, the late Cheri (Dave), Rob, Amy (Ken), Jennifer (Tom), Dale, Erin (Greg), and Cam, and to dear, sweet Noah, Sarah Mae, and Sophia - I couldn't have loved you more if you were my own children. To my relatives and dear friends - I have been blessed by your presence in my life. Each one of you has been an important part of my life, but now I turn to a new life in a beautiful Kingdom, joining my mom and dad, Mae and Lavalle, and other loved ones who are waiting there for me. There will be a Mass of Resurrection held at Parish of the Atonement (2940 Forest Glade Dr, Windsor, ON N8R 1L5) on Saturday March 25, 2023, at 11am. If you wish to remember me in some small way, please do not send me flowers that I can neither smell nor see. Instead, do other life-affirming things. Smile at a passerby on the street. Tell someone you love them. Perform a random act of kindness to a total stranger. Make a donation to an organization such as the Iris House, the Downtown Mission, or Habitat for Humanity. The possibilities are endless!
Until we meet again, you know you are loved. Your Friend, Valerie Arrangements entrusted to Cremation First (Tecumseh) 519-398-9188. Online condolences and cherished memories may be shared with the family at www.cremationfirst.ca
