Albert Drake - October 28, 1951 - September 14, 2023

Departed: 09/14/2023 (Crystal River)
Obituary Preview: On Thursday September 14, 2023, Albert Drake Jr. “Sonny, Al” 71 of Beverly Hills, FL, passed away peacefully at home with his beloved wife, Margie (Fulton) at his side. Sonny, the second eldest of four children, was born on October 28, 1951, to Albert Sr. and Pauline (Stinchfield) Drake in Worcester, MA. After graduating from Susquenita High School in 1969, he enlisted with U.S. Marine Corps. Earning his dress blues while in boot camp, Sonny graduated at the top of his class. He was proud to be a Marine and conducted himself as such throughout his life. Sonny, like all true Marines, have an uncommon willingness to fight and win battles—a distinction that sets the Marine Corps apart. As said by the memorable Gunny SGT. Hartman, “Marines die, that's what we're here for. But the Marine Corps lives forever. And that means YOU will live forever.” After the Marines, Sonny worked at his parents’ bar, Sonny’s Tavern, and as a machinist and welder for the Penn Central/Conrail Railroad. Once starting his federal career at the former Naval Ships Parts Control Center (Navy SPCC), Sonny worked with various Federal agencies such as the FBI, CIA, Navy Seal Teams and Special Forces, US SOCOM. He retired as a Special Security Officer after 36.5 years of service. Sonny also owned and operated Drake Brothers Construction with his brother, Donald. Sonny’s inquisitiveness and keen intellect drove all his pursuits. He immersed himself and excelled at every endeavor. He is a life member of the VFW Post 882, 32nd Degree Mason at Perry Lodge 458. An Endowment Member of the NRA, and a former Post Commander of American Legion Post 340. Sonny’s real passion was motorcycles and classic cars. He even owned 16 Harley Davidsons throughout his life. After buying his first bike, a 1967 XLCH Sportster in 1970, he restored and rebuilt many custom bikes. His last bike, half ‘47 Knucklehead / half ‘48 Panhead, is a one-of-a-kind, pure, and sacred showpiece. Sonny poured his heart into everything that he did. His love of riding motorcycles evolved into being a Proud Diamond of the PAGANS’s Motorcycle Club. When he opted for four wheels, he would take in a drag car race or hit the town in his trophy-winning ’55 Chevy Bel-Air with his best girl, Margie. Sonny and Margie married in 2013, in Landisburg, PA, where they resided until 2021, when they moved to Florida. Sonny used this opportunity primarily to perfect his golf game, hitting the course a few times a week with the boys. He and Margie were soon surrounded by new friends, ready to make a lifetime of memories. Sonny was always game for adventure. Whether it be taking in a Steelers football game, a Tiki boat ride in Tampa or anything in-between, If his beloved, Margie and friends were going, he was in! Whenever plans changed at the last minute, he’d put on his best grin and roll with it. Sonny left an impression on everyone he encountered. His wisdom and ability to captivate and inspire was unrivaled. This was in part due to his evolving spiritualistic views. As a young person, he made a profession of Christian faith and was active in the church while raising his family. He later parted ways with organized religion, but never left behind the teachings of Christ. He was a principled man of integrity, always in search of the truth. Continuing his quest for wisdom even when he was dying, Sonny knew the power of the reality he faced. He saw his passing as a trial by fire that moved him deeper into a connection between the mysteries of life and death. In recent telephone conversations with a high school friend, Sonny said, “I’m always searching.” “Where did we come from? Where are we going? It’s a process, what I’m going through. Not

What information is typically included in an obituary?

A typical obituary includes the person's name, age, date of birth and death, place of residence, occupation, education, hobbies, achievements, and surviving family members. It may also include information about funeral or memorial services, charitable donations, and other relevant details.

Who writes an obituary?

The task of writing an obituary often falls on family members or close friends of the deceased. Funeral homes or obituary writers may also assist in crafting the obituary.

How long should an obituary be?

The length of an obituary can vary depending on the publication or platform. Typically, it ranges from a few sentences to several paragraphs. Online obituaries often have more flexibility in terms of length.

Can I include photos in an obituary?

Yes, many publications and online platforms allow you to include one or more photos with the obituary. This can be a great way to personalize the tribute and make it more engaging.

What is the difference between an obituary and a death notice?
