Corey Richard Tourangeau - April 09, 1981 - April 16, 2024

Departed: 04/16/2024 (Bark River)
Obituary Preview: Corey Richard Tourangeau, 43, of Wilson, passed away on Tuesday, April 16, 2024 after a valiant battle with pancreatic cancer. Corey was born on April 9, 1981, son to Wally Tourangeau and Jo Ann Neubauer.
Corey spent most of his early childhood days at the family farm on 551 in Wilson, then tried out city life in Escanaba for a few years. A first-class tinkerer, the connection to 551 was strong and by his mid-teens, Corey moved back to the farm with his dad. Corey loved to spend his days taking apart engines, or anything that did or did not need fixing, and putting it back together his way and often better. Corey was usually covered in grease or dirt, but anything most considered work he did with a beaming smile and many laughs.
Life at the farm suited Corey, he built race tracks and sprint cars, lifelong friendships, started projects, finished most of them and took care of his dad. Corey would test all the limits, never worried about time and skipped convention to really just enjoy his life. He would fall in love with each new hobby, which usually involved a motor, but he also ventured into gardening and eventually took his carpentry skills to the workforce. When the opportunity presented itself, Wally sent Corey across the street where he bought a house of his own.
Corey was a hard worker, was always up for a challenge and once something no longer served him, he moved on. He tried everything from cutting trees in the woods, to running cable with his brother, to industrial painting and laying asphalt. One of his favorite gigs was selling Christmas trees in Chicago for Dombrowski’s and other local tree farmers. The stories he came back with were a highlight of the family Christmas gatherings, and left his family all but certain he was kind of famous in some little suburb of Chicago. Eventually work took on a new meaning when he found his way in construction and started working at Viau Inc. A company that embraced his talents and a job he did with great pride and dedication for as long as physically possible.
Corey found his special someone and married Shannon (Nantelle) Sexton on January 25, 2019. They added two daughters to their blended family and he put all his love and passion into being a doting dad and husband. Corey's greatest joy was sharing the secret ins and outs of his authentic country life with his family.
Corey is survived by his wife Shannon and their children, Andre Benson, Neeko Perry, Tatiiana and Gentae Sexton and Arriahnna and Zayda Tourangeau, all of Wilson; his mom Jo Ann (Dick Larsen) Neubauer of Escanaba; siblings Kelli Tourangeau, Jaimee (Andrea) Tourangeau, Brian (Jenny) Tourangeau, Becky (Zach) Ericksen all of Escanaba, Art Tourangeau of Wilson and bonus brother Rick (Jess) Larsen of Escanaba; and many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
Corey was preceded in death by his dad Wally Tourangeau, mother-in-law Sandra Wellman, infant brother Richard Tourangeau and his loyal dog Itchy.
A visitation for Corey will take place for friends and family at Crawford Funeral Chapel, 1236 Old Hwy 2 & 41, Bark River on Wednesday, April 24th from 3-6 p.m., with a prayer service to follow.

Donna Joyce Erickson - November 04, 1935 - December 25, 2023

Departed: 12/25/2023 (Bark River)
Obituary Preview: Donna Joyce Erickson, 88, of Bark River, MI, passed away peacefully at home on Christmas morning, December 25, 2023, with her loving family by her side. Donna’s life was a testimony of her close relationship with Jesus Christ, and her family is grateful that she was able to join Him in Heaven on such a special day.
Donna was born to Oscar and Nellie (DeYoung) Tuinstra November 4, 1935, in Grand Rapids, MI. She graduated from Lee High in Grand Rapids and then attended Calvin College. August 15, 1958, Donna Tuinstra married Leonard Erickson in Grand Rapids. In 1962 they relocated to Harris, MI where they raised their 6 children.
Donna was a secretary, then a piano teacher before earning her Certified Nursing Assistant degree and working at Pinecrest Medical Care Facility in Powers, MI for almost 20 years. Following her retirement from Pinecrest, she provided adult foster care in her home for 15 years.
Donna was a loving and nurturing wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, caregiver, and friend who was known for her beauty, both inside and out. With her gentle voice, kindness, warm hospitality, genuine interest in others, positive attitude, and deep faith, she blessed and inspired all those with whom she came in contact. Even as an exceptional caregiver with many talents such as playing piano, cooking/baking and writing, she downplayed her abilities and preferred to give praise to others. She was “the hands and feet of Jesus” whose primary concern was that her family and friends would be spiritually prepared to join her in Heaven someday.
Donna’s sweet, angelic nature was combined with an attention to order and routine and an avid curiosity about the world around her. She had a twinkle in her eye, and a quick wit that both amused and kept others on their toes. She is deeply missed and remembered with tears and laughter.
She is survived by her husband, Leonard; 6 children, Lori (Tim) Portfleet of Pinehurst, NC, Bryan (Tina) Erickson of Harris, MI, Mary Beth (Paul) Frost of Superior, WI, Janice (Greg) Jacobson of Watertown, TN, Steven (Nicole) Erickson of Burlington, WI, and Kristi (Jim) Harrington of Ortonville, MI; 17 grandchildren, Jordan (Melissa) Portfleet, Danielle Portfleet, Alicia (Rob) Benson, Mitchell (Christina) Frost, Dominic (Helena) Frost, John Michael (Cheyenne) Wenick, Kristen (Shane) Meyers, Christina Wenick, Cody Wenick, AJ (Maggie Diges) Erickson, Tyler (Jennifer) Erickson, Ben Erickson, Gabe Erickson, Ann Marie Erickson, Ashley (Andrew) Waterhouse, Jonathon (Liz Marth) Harrington, and Rylie Harrington; 23 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by five siblings and one grandson, Chad Wenick.
Visitation will be January 6, 2024, from 10 a.m. until noon (EST) at the Ford River Community Chapel, 3103 M-35, Bark River, MI 49807. The funeral service will follow at noon with Pastor Jay Gilchrist officiating.

Roger E. Ives - August 29, 1940 - December 21, 2023

Departed: 12/21/2023 (Bark River)
Obituary Preview: Roger E. Ives, 83, passed away on Thursday, December 21, 2023, surrounded by his cherished family at OSF St. Francis Hospital in Escanaba, MI. He was born on August 29, 1940, to George Sr. and Flora May Ives in Wallace, MI.
Roger's journey on this earth was marked by a profound commitment to faith, a love for his children, and a passion for his hobbies.
Roger graduated from Stephenson High School. On September 2, 1961, he embarked on a lifelong journey with his soulmate, Barbara Marie Jordan, in Racine, WI. Together they built a home and family in Bark River, MI. Barbara preceded him in death in 2017, leaving behind a legacy of enduring love.
A proud veteran, Roger served four years in the U.S. Coast Guard. After an honorable discharge, he embraced the roles of self-employed carpenter and logger, followed by dedicated service within Forestry Industry. In 1993, Roger began Ives Truck and Auto Repair with his son. Roger could talk to anyone and enjoyed conversations with his many customers. Roger and his wife Barb, who was the bookkeeper, drove to work together every day until he retired in 2008.
Roger's faith was a cornerstone of his life, as he was a devoted member of the Bark River Bible Church, finding joy in the melodies of hymns and a deep connection to the lyrics. It would be singing of these hymns that would sustain him in his last months of life.
Beyond his professional pursuits, Roger found joy in the simple pleasures of life. An avid racing enthusiast, he reveled in the excitement of the track and later would enjoy time with his brothers ice fishing and going to local antique car shows showcasing his corvette. His green thumb transformed gardens into bounty, and his love for hunting brought excitement and camaraderie with his family. Most treasured were the moments spent with his grandchildren in the ‘back room’, tinkle-berry hill, and the back-40.
After the loss of his wife Barbara, Roger found the perfect companion in Delores Lehouillier. Her genuine source of care allowed Roger to continue sharing his faith and pursuing hobbies that brought fulfillment until the very end.
Roger is survived by his loving children: Steven (Angie) Ives, Vicki (Jim) Robin, Kathy (Jeff) VanEnkevort, Janelle (Jeff) Donovan, Gwen (Alex) Choi, Beth Ives, Greg (Jessica) Ives, and Candace (Phil) Bellefeuille. His Grandchildren include: Ben (Kelsey) Ives, Heather (Jerek) McKinney, Heidi Ives, Hailee (Tyler) Wilkinson, Jordan Ives, Logan and Ayden VanEnkevort, Kiera and Kallie Donovan, Jamisyn and Gavin Bergeron, Payton, Taylor, Parker, and Shaelyn Ives; great grandchildren, Harbor, Marina, and Jetty Wilkinson, Eliana, Zadie and Zurie Ives, and Zaden and Zelek McKinney.
As the first among his 12 siblings to unite with their Heavenly Father, he leaves behind a profound love for his 5 brothers and 6 sisters, having shared a lifetime of meals, laughter, moments of sickness, and the greatest of victories together. We recognize the undying support and never-ending care of his 11 siblings—Dee Dee (Flora Lee) Jarvis, Donald (Doris) Ives, Lois DeMille, Gale-Peanut (Evie) Ives, Peggy Johnson, Barb (Raymond) Padilla, Lolly Kostreva, L. Bruce (Sue) Ives, George (Mary) Ives Jr., Marcia (Daryl) Peterson, and Gary (Cindy) Ives; and his many nieces and nephews.
In the embrace of his deep faith, Roger has reunited with his parents, George Sr. and Flora May, and his beloved wife, Barb, along with their son, Thomas, who preceded him in death.
Visitation to celebrate Roger's life will be held on Thursday, December 28th, from 1 – 4 p.m. at the Bark River Bible Church, culminating in a funeral service at 4 p.m., officiated by Pastor Bradley Cochrane. Following the service, a meal will be served in the church hall, a fitting tribute to a life well-lived.
Roger's final resting place will be in the Stephenson Twp. Cemetery on Friday, December 29th, at 9 am EST.
For those wishing to convey condolences, a message may be shared with the family at www.crawfordfuneralhomes.net.
The Crawford Funeral Homes are honored to assist the family during this time of remembrance and reflection.
