Obituary Preview: Charlie Earl Ward, Jr. better known as “C-Note” was the third child born to Wanda and Charlie Ward, Sr. on January 21, 1975, in Indianapolis, Indiana and he passed on  March 26, 2022 at the age of 47.Charlie had an incredible and creative mind he was great with his hands.  He was an entrepreneur of sorts working on cars, home improvements and electronics.  He loved his family and friends. “Laugh now & cry later” That quote is something that Charlie used to say all the time and that is exactly how Charlie lived his life.  Full of laughter and animated with color.  You couldn’t’ do anything but have a good time when you were around him.  He always gave you those feel-good kind of vibes. Preceding him and death is his sister Leeia Dial and his father Charlies Ward, Sr.  He leaves to cherish his life his mother Wanda Ward; sister, Mia Ford (Jeffrey), and many children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He loved life and life loved him.  He lived on his own terms and lived by his own rules. He was funny, loving and was always the life of the party.  Charlie was loved by so many people, and he will be greatly missed.

Robert "Bobby" Wilson - April 17, 1951 - March 20, 2022

Obituary Preview: Robert Wilson was born April 17, 1951, in Indianapolis, Indiana to Russell Wilson and Delores Golden (Duffy). Robert, was affectionately known by his family as “Bobby.”  He accepted Christ at an early age at Our Savior Lutheran Church in June of 1962.
He attended Indianapolis Public School #36 and Shortridge High School. At Shortridge, Bobby excelled in athletics. He earned varsity letters in football and in basketball and received Indianapolis All-City recognition in basketball. He graduated from Shortridge in 1969.
After high school, he earned scholarships to play basketball. First, at Trinidad State from 1970-1971. He went on to play for NE Louisiana for two years, and then played for Iowa State University where he later graduated. He was drafted by both the Memphis Tams of the ABA and was a 3rd round selection of the Houston Rockets (41st pick) in the 1974 NBA draft. He worked many years in sales in both the insurance and automobile industries. Robert loved sports, chess, and music of all kinds. He loved his mother, children, grandkids, and family, in general. He enjoyed many things, but his favorite of all was food!
Robert earned his wings to heaven on Sunday, March 20, 2022 at the age of 70. He was preceded in death by his grandmothers, Alice Duffy, Lovely McGee: father, Russell Wilson; brother, Michael Wilson; his only aunt, Lucinda Carson and special cousins, Jo Carol Ray and Wesley Ray.
Robert Wilson lives forever in the hearts and memories of his mother, Delores Golden; his children: Robyn Lynn Wilson, Tiffany Nicole Zachary (Gabe), Warren Wilson (Lenae); his grandchildren: (Dainondre, Cournell, Anika, Alaysha, Alana, Caleb, Iesha, Jasmine, Jacob, Lil Warren, and Tynaesha: nine great grandchildren: sisters, Deborah, Sanora, Cheryl, and Jana Wilson: brothers, Russell Jr, Russell A, and Andre Wilson; and special cousins: Thomas Gregory Ray, Joseph Edward Ray (Connie), Wendell Keith Ray (Falisa), Sonia Jean Ray, and Teresa Gail Ray (David); and many nephews, nieces, cousins, in-laws and a host of other family members.

Obituary Preview: Mr. Willis Bellamy, Sr. (Sookie) was born in Columbus, Ohio on June 17, 1928, to the late Lucille Staples Bellamy the late John H. Bellamy.
He accepted Christ at an early age joining South Calvary Baptist Church. He later attended Bethesda Missionary Baptist Church and went on to become a faithful member until his health failed him. Willis (Sookie) received his primary and secondary education in the public school system. He then entered the United States Navy. Willis (Sookie) was a sociable person. He loved to play cards, play the numbers, and play the tickets and he knew everybody’s address. Willis (Sookie) was his nickname and everybody knew (Sookie.)
After leaving the Navy he went on to be employed by Goldberg’s Trucking Co., and the City of Indianapolis Department of Public Works. He also was employed by the United States Postal Service, retiring in 1986 after 30 years of service.
Willis (Sookie) was united in marriage to the late Mary Jane Lackey Bellamy for 58 years.  She was the love of his life. This union was blessed with eleven (11) children. He was a wonderful husband, father, brother, grandfather and friend to so many.
Willis (Sookie) went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, March 6, 2022, at the age of 93 years. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Jane Lackey Bellamy, parents John and Lucille Bellamy. Brothers, James Bellamy and Thomas Bellamy. Sons, Stephen P. Bellamy and Willis Bellamy, Jr.  He leaves to cherish his memory, sons Kenneth R. Bellamy, Sr. (Jacqueline) Richard A. Bellamy (Veronica) Michael V. Bellamy (Ronnie) Jeffrey W. Bellamy, Jerald D. Bellamy, Phillip B. Bellamy (Sonya). Daughters Marilyn Hill, Suzanne Price (Robert) Carol D. Bellamy, Paula D. Obituary Preview: Percie Sherels was born January 9, 1939 in Canton Mississippi to Corrine and Percy Peale.
Percie, accepted Christ and was baptized at an early age.  She was a faithful member of South Calvary Baptist Church. She loved to sing and was a lead alto soloist.  If you heard Percie sing, she made you feel like you were in heaven.  She was also a cook for the church, this was another one of her gifts.
Percie held a variety of jobs such as cooking, cleaning, baby sitting and she retired from Logo 7.  She also enjoyed a good friendly game of cards with her nephew Anthony Holloway. Percie and Tony were always partners and would gladly talk you through with everyone laughing.  She was a comedian and had a gift to make you laugh. She received “The Watch Me Make God Laugh Award” presented to her by Pastor John Woodall.
Percie loved her flowers and would wake up early in the morning just so she could weed her beautiful flower out.  She won best yard from Mayor Bill Hudnut one year when she lived in the “hood”. She always said it wasn’t where you lived but how you lived.
Percie departed this life on February 24, 2002 at the age of 83. She is preceded in death by her parents, sisters, Mildred Jefferson and Anna Jefferson and son Derrick Sherels. She is survived by four children, Marvin Peale, Gregory Sherels, Yvette Sherels (Michele), Bruce Sherels; three sisters, Mavis Holloway and Ida Eldridge; ten grandchildren, Quinn McCallister, LaManda Perryman, Kierra Vaden, John Sherels, Destiny & Gregory Sherels, Shannon Williams, Lakis & Antionette; four great-grandchildren, Nevaeh M, Terrace H, Lavion P, Dewayne W, and a host of nieces, nephews church family and friends.

Timothy Tyrone Shelton - July 18, 1953 - February 01, 2022

Obituary Preview: Reverend Timothy Tyrone Shelton was born on July 18, 1953 in Chicago, Illinois to Ida and Richard Shelton. He was the youngest of six siblings. Timothy received Christ as well as his call to the Ministry at the age of twenty-five, while still residing in the hometown that he loved Chicago, Ill. He was set on entering law school when God called him into the ministry, and he never looked back.  Tim earned a Master of Divinity from Garret Evangelical Seminary, Evanston, Illinois; as well as completing all Doctor of Ministry Course Work from Westminster Seminary in Escondido, CA. leaving only his manuscript to publish.   Tim pastored multiple UMC churches across the state of Indiana. He retired from the UMC, after answering the call to plant The City of God a nondenominational church in Indiana. Tim worked tirelessly for the Lord, which was his greatest pleasure! He started Timothy Shelton Ministries, had two radio ministries, worked with a prison ministry, while pastoring in Muncie and he would later take the Word to inner city nursing homes in Indianapolis. Timothy loved the Lord and His Word! He took the Word to China, Africa and across the United States. Always seeking to bring others into the Kingdom of God with him, which was his greatest desire in life!  Tim was smart with a quick wit and was known for his humor and signature laugh, which he did often as he was always laughing and sharing a joke. He loved learning and reading for knowledge as he would say.
He was a devoted and loving husband and father to his wife Kim of nearly 26 years, and daughter Hannah Rose Ruth. Pastor Shelton had already decided early on that if he ever had a daughter she would be named after Hannah from the old testament. The King James reads that Hannah rose from praying and that is how we got our Hannah Rose Ruth. He also loved his family of origin taking his nieces and nephews to the library and cultural points of interest in Chicago, Ill.  Tim had a love for traveling domestically and abroad.  Tim and Kim began their married life together in San Diego, CA and California has continued to be the family’s favorite place to get away.  Tim also loved to drive and often shared the story of driving across country with his older brother Charles. He enjoyed being on the open road whether it was a short trip to Louisville, or Chicago or an even shorter trip to Muncie where he Pastored Trinity UMC for seven years.  Reverend Timothy Shelton departed this life on February 1, 2022. Timothy was preceded in death by his Mother and Father, Richard and Ida Shelton, Sister, Kay Shelton, Brothers, Charles Shelton and John Shelton.

Elizabeth devoted her life to being a loving mother and a devoted partner. Elizabeth (Bookey or Liz) enjoyed listening to music, going to the park with her children, and watching her son play basketball, but most of all she loved cooking for her family. Many times Elizabeth would cook a bunch of food, and have her friends and family gathered around enjoying life and having fun.
Elizabeth was truly a loving mother, a caring daughter, a thoughtful sister, and a friend that was unmatched by no other. She loved to have a good time and be around her family. Her children, son Savion, daughters Taraji and Zendaya, were her everything. Elizabeth was truly dedicated to being the best mommy in the world.
Elizabeth Ann Murff departed this life on Thursday January 27, 2022. She was preceded in her death by her mother Alice Jean Starks, her maternal grandparents Alfred Vernon Starks and Carol Jean Bunnell Starks, and paternal grandfather Jesse Murff Sr.

She was the definition of self-care she made a point to tell everyone often to improve skin and healthcare routine. She could often be heard asking her family “How much water did you drink today” “You need to use this type of product for your hair” etc.   Although she didn’t have children, she truly was a mother to hundreds. When she was not cleaning cooking or taking her daily walks through the neighborhood, she would watch her favorite shows on television Jeopardy. In which she should have been a contestant on the show as she knew all the answers. Sharon was a loving and devoted sister aunt and friend she lived her life to the fullest…. she did exactly what she wanted to do and there was nothing you could tell her to change her mind! Sharon Dickerson departed this life on Jan 25, 2022 at the age of 71 years old she was preceded in death by her parents Herman Whitley and Alberta G. Perry, Her older siblings Constance L. A few things to remember about Helen Faye were her love for shopping at thrift stores, growing plants and most importantly her love for the Lord and her church family.  Helen Faye was sassy, sophisticated and lived a colorful life. Helen Faye Woolery passed on December 28, 2021 at the age of 83. Preceding her in death are her parents, Alonzo and Helen Woolery; her son, James Woolery; brothers, Raymond, Alonzo, James Woolery and her sister, Louella Johnson. He received his education in the Philadelphia Public School System.
In 2012 Kevin moved to Indianapolis to start his new life with his sweetheart Stephanie, and they were married the same year.
Kevin was a hard worker. He spent from 2014 to 2020 as a parking attendant at the Indiana State Fair.  He also worked for the Double 8 food chains and as a dishwasher at Kilroy’s. When not working for a company, he used his trade skills that he learned over the years in dry wall, painting, and lawn care.
Kevin was a good provider, loved to sing and spend time with his family.
Kevin Murphy departed this life on December 20, 2021 and was preceded in death by his parents, and special aunt Tanya Munroe. Evelyn Briscoe Bey-Parker - February 10, 1931 - October 10, 2021

Evelyn accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized in Tennessee. She graduated from County High in Tennessee and moved to Milwaukee Wisconsin where she married and started a family. Evelyn relocated to Indianapolis, Indiana in the late seventies and united with the Mt. Olive Baptist Church where she sang in the choir. Later she united with the Greater St. Mark Missionary Baptist Church under the pastorage of Rev. Joy L. Thornton where she served as a choir member and a member of the Mother’s Ministry (Mothers of Ministry).
She was married to John Ford who preceded her in death, and to this union three children were born. She later married Mr. Walter Briscoe Bey who preceded her in death and Mr. Hezekiah Parker also preceding her in death.
Mother Parker worked for years as an inspector for Master Lock and in later years as a Senior Companion, a job she loved until her health failed. She also enjoyed catering and decorating for special events. Mother Parker often said “I have lived a good life and I loved the life I lived.” Mother Parker had two children to precede her in death, her daughter and her son.
She leaves to cherish her memory one son, John D. Ford, Jr.; one brother, Ronald Muse of Florida; special nephew Patrick Bland of Louisiana, four grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends who were like family to her.

He had a small circle, most of whom had been there close to thirty years. Closest being Emerson Phelps, Anthony Warren, Special Auntee’s Melissa Birdsong and Shonia Folden and Special Unc Kirk Wright.
Antonio  passed away September 5, 2021 at the age of thirty-nine years. Obituary Preview: FRANK COURTNEY JR. was born to the proud parents of Frank Courtney Sr. and Mary R Courtney on August 17, 1947 in Indianapolis, Indiana.  Frank attended grade school #37 (Hazel Hart Hendricks) from 1952-1961, graduated from Arsenal Technical High School in Indianapolis, Indiana in 1965 then pursued a higher education at College of San Mateo in San Mateo, California from 1974-1976. Frank displayed a strong work ethic at an early age by beginning his career at A & P grocery as a store clerk, along with seasonal entrepreneurship of selling shopping bags. After graduating high school, he began working for RCA until 1966 when drafted into the US Military/ Army. He was deployed to Vietnam where he served as Private E-1 in the Vietnam War until 1968 when he formally completed his tour of duty with honorably discharged of service. Upon Frank’s military release he returned to RCA for 2 years. Frank officially met Sadie V. Brown in 1968 and ultimately moved to California. Upon his arrival to San Francisco, California in 1970, Frank began his career as a technician for Western Electric.  In 1972, he married Sadie V. Brown. They birthed first born and daughter, Monica L Courtney in 1974 and son, Frank JD Courtney in 1978. Frank also worked for Pacific Bell as a Field Manager, where he proudly worked 20+ years until his retirement in 1991. Upon his retirement, Frank and his family settled in Indianapolis, Indiana in 1992.  When returning to Indianapolis, Indiana, he worked as a forklift driver for Excel Distribution in 1997. He then transferred to Genco-Stryker of Plainfield Distribution while ending his career at FedEx Supply Chain Inc. Frank was a committed believer of Jesus Christ. He became a proud member of Word of Faith Christian Church, Pastor Julius Stephens and First Lady Carol Stephens. He accepted Christ and was baptized in 2005.  Frank was one of many gifts, musically, intellectually and morally. He had a great fondness for music and found great reward in playing various instruments. He can be found most famous for his profound flute improvisations. He loved the sciences and technology and could always be found current with new scientific discoveries or the latest gadgets. He absolutely loved to dance and was not shy when an opportunity to dance presented itself. Frank was the true definition of love. He loved God, immediate and extended family, friends, colleagues and his country. He loved LIFE!! He was well known as the advisor on the go, he could be found counseling in almost any setting. A true giver at heart, Frank’s selfless personality will be remembered by many who knew him. Amongst many memorable moments, Frank enjoyed the ongoing laughter between him and brothers Ronald and David! Such moments of laughter were medicine to his soul and a sign of lifelong connections. Frank transition from this life to be with the Lord on Saturday, August 28, 2021.  He was proceeded in death by parents, Frank Courtney Sr and Mary R Courtney, brothers Gerald Courtney, Paul Courtney and Michael Courtney and granddaughter, Rhilee M Courtney. Obituary Preview: Mary Magdalene Turner, Affectionately known as "Peggy Jean", transitioned from time into eternity on Wednesday, August 4, 2021, at home in Columbus, Ohio. She was born on November 10, 1938, in Danville, Illinois to Lillian McMillan Churchill and Keneth Carr.
Mary graduated from Danville High School where she played trombone and was a Majorette. She also took courses at Illinois Central College. On December 3, 1957, Peggy married the love of her life, Thomas Franklin Turner, affectionately "Tee", in Crawfordsville, Indiana. They were married for 63 years!
Mary was a vibrant soul. She love people and never met a stranger. She was kind, caring and giving. She loved having a good time and being happy. Her family, including nieces and nephews alike, enjoyed being in her presence and hearing her laugh. Mary's greatest joy was her family. She often said her children were her life! She also loved spending quality time with close friends. Her friendships were rich and lasting. Mary enjoyed listening to music - especially jazz, dancing, bowling, photography and shopping. She later developed a passion for fine jewelry, designer purses, exquisite perfumes and T-shirts. Not afraid to enjoy life, her motto could have been "Do it, Be it, Buy it!".
Mary was an industrious person. She was gainfully employment at Caterpillar, from which she retired in the year 2000 after 28 years of service. While working and raising her children, She still found time to sell Avon and Amway, host garage sales and work as an aid with District 150. During the Christmas season, she could be found working in retail stores, such as Bergners. Mary also supported her husband's pursuits by being a design consultant for Turner's Home Improvement and co-owner of Turners Entertainment Center (a records and billiards store). After a brief retirement, she work at various clothing stores and for District 150 as a crossing guard.
Mary had strong faith in Jesus Christ. Her favorite prayer was the Serenity Prayer and her favorite scripture was James 5:13-15. She was a member of St. Paul Baptist Church, where she faithfully served as an office assistant, kitchen aid and an usher.
Mary is survived by her children: Ronald Turner of Indianapolis, Indiana, Steven Turner and Rob (Cherry) Turner both of Peoria, Illinois, and Patricia (Tom) Edwards of Columbus, Ohio; cousin Barbary Hughes; sisters-in-law, Sally Rodgers of Inglewood, California, and Emma Turner of Indianapolis; brother-in-law, James Turner of Indianapolis, Indiana; grand children, Petey Adams, Patricia Davis, Tory DeBose, Audra Edwards, Brittany Harris, Teressa Holly-Moore and Tamika Randolph; great-grandson, Tevion Price; special sisters, Patricia Jordan and Barbara (Clarence) Sterling; and host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Tonya didn’t have any children of her own, but was a nurturing type of person, good at listening and giving the best advice to many young adults in her life who loved and respected her dearly, able to steer them past life’s difficulties in the right direction to better themselves. Tonya also had a passion for clothes just like her mother Karen, always dressed to kill from head to toe. After becoming ill Tonya was a pretty private person, not able to do too much, but kept in touch with friends and family by phone and Facebook most of all, reading her Bible and always asking, if you knew what the word Bible stood for? And she’d tell you it’s: (Basic Instructions Before Leaving Earth) and what it takes to gain your wings and entrance into the Pearly Gates of Heaven.

She was an account specialist with Brinks and Kroger before becoming a Lead Teacher in the child care program at the Concord Neighborhood Center. Lisa was a loving, supportive woman during her short time here with us. She embraced many roles on her journey.  Self-less daughter, caring sister, loving auntie, hardworking mother, supportive Go She was in her words, a jack of all trades in the midst of mastering most!  She enjoyed cooking for her family, crocheting, and watching sports especially Lebron playing basketball and Serena winning championships!   In her spare time, she enjoyed her movies, music, working puzzles and problem solving.  She had an aptitude for numbers and math and was everybody’s tax lady!
Her role as Auntie created the avenue to further her understanding of life. The love she had for her nieces and nephews crossed 3 generations of children she loved as her own. While embracing this role it fostered her creativity, softened her heart and understanding ear, making her a teacher long before her final career as a Lead Teacher at Concord Neighborhood Center.
While embracing her short empty nester phase, she conquered her fears of planes and boats during her Hoosier Lottery won Bahamas cruise with her Sister and Best Friend Lynnette Corbin. The joy and happiness that trip brought her stayed with her until her final days. To be loved by her meant right or wrong you could count on her to be by your side!  The loyalty she extended was nothing short of everlasting! In her final moments her love of music from Gerald LeVert to Ice Cube, Gangsta Rap to Gospel kept her in high spirits as she made transition home.
After a courageous battle with cancer, Lisa departed this life on May 12, 2021 at the age of 55 years, 7 months and 12 days.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents, parents Lowery and Willa a sister Lachelle  and brothers Leonard, Britt and Lyle.
She leaves to cherish her memory daughter Tia (William Elliot), granddaughter Elle Marie; sisters Laura, Lynn (Tammy), Lezlie (William), Lynnette; brothers, Eric, Mark; nieces and nephews Alisha, Terri, Buffy, Marc, Ashanta, Lakeisha, Rhonda, Raquel, Jonathon, William, Anjela, Brittany, Lyle Jr. Ronald, Ashlee, Zaire and Azhure; aunts and uncles, Charles (Johnnie), James (Jolene), Joan, Delores, Cynthia, and Marianne..
