TRANSYLVANIA, LA - Funeral services for Ava Erline (Sandifer) Muse, age 87 of Transylvania, Louisiana will be held at 3 PM on Sunday, March 10, 2024 at Melbourne Baptist Church in the Alsatia Community.
Reverend Butch Goodman will officiate.
Interment will follow in the Herringville Cemetery in Monticello, Louisiana.
Services are under the direction of Cox Funeral Home of Oak Grove.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 3 PM on Sunday, March 10, 2024 at Melbourne Baptist Church.
She passed into eternal life on Friday, March 8, 2024 at St. Francis Medical Center in Monroe, Louisiana.
Ava Erline Sandifer Muse was born April 30,1936 to the union of OD and Corinitha Thompson Sandifer.
Mom grew up in the Monticello Community until she met the love of her life Jimmy Muse. They were married March 30, 1957 and moved to the Goat Road in Transylvania, Louisiana where they raised their family. They remained married until daddy passed away in March 2013 one week shy of their 57th anniversary. Even though he was gone she remained devoted to their marriage until God called her home on March 8, 2024.
Together they raised four children, Michael Wayne (Mike) Muse, James Edward (Sonny) Muse, “Denise” Ann Muse and Patricia “Renee ” Muse Downing. Natalie Michelle Parker Pippin came to live with the family when she was 3 years old. Mom and dad raised and loved her as one of their own.
They were blessed with 12 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren. She loved her family fiercely and gave willingly to anyone in need.
Momma worked alongside daddy on the family farm and still provided three full home cooked meals a day. If she wasn’t on a tractor she was in the kitchen cooking or in her sewing room.
She knew her Lord and Savior and was baptized in her youth. She served as church treasurer and Sunday school teacher in churches she attended over the years.
Mom or Mrs. Erline as she was known to others loved to make candy and was known for her divinity. We’re pretty sure her secret ingredient was love because hers always turned out perfectly. It could be found on the table at most Melbourne Church wedding and baby showers and we knew it was always going to be on the dessert table at Christmas.
Mom was the oldest of 5 children. She loved her siblings and their spouses and her brother in law and his wife and all of her nieces and nephews with an unconditional love.
She remained independent and continued to drive herself to the beauty shop, doctor’s appointments and the grocery store.
Mom passed away peacefully with family by her side.

Honorary Pallbearers are: other grandsons.

Connie (Hughes) Forrest Constiner - March 11, 1938 - March 03, 2024

Departed: 03/03/2024 (Oak Grove)
Obituary Preview: CONNIE (HUGHES) FORREST CONSTINER, 85 OAK GROVE, LOUISIANA Cox Funeral Home Oak Grove, Louisiana OAK GROVE, LA - Born–March 11, 1938   Died–March 3, 2024
Connie is survived by her daughter Darlene Forrest Eubanks (Fred) of Pioneer, LA; granddaughter Carey Eubanks Tomlinson (Phillip) of Lake Providence, LA; granddaughter Kristen Eubanks Campbell (Brwyan) of Oak Grove, LA; great-grandchildren Emerson Tomlinson, Carlisle Tomlinson, Weston Tomlinson, Kennedy Tomlinson, Evelynn Campbell, Madeline Campbell, Kora Campbell, and Lillian Campbell; brother Shelby Hughes (Shelbie) of Forest, La; brother Travis Hughes (Fanny) of Forest, LA; sister-in-law, Barbara Bush Hughes of Jacksonville, FL  and numerous nieces & nephews.
She is preceded in death by her mother, Myrtie Hughes; father, Lacy Hughes; her twin brother, Lonnie Hughes; brother, Wayne Hughes; first husband, Cecil “Red” Forrest; second husband, Ralph Constiner; and nephew, Mark Hughes.
Connie grew up on her family’s farm in Forest, Louisiana. She spent her early days working hard on the farm and hard in school. She milked the family’s dairy cows every morning before school and enjoyed showing her Jersey cow, Daisy, in the local FFA shows. She took great delight that her great-granddaughters followed in her footsteps showing their own cows in 4-H and FFA shows.
In 1956, Connie graduated from Forest High School. She then began studying to become a flight attendant for Delta Airlines. After passing all of her tests, she followed her father’s advice and began an entirely different career. She was a rural mail carrier for the United States Postal Service. It was here that she met her first husband “Red” Forrest. Connie delighted in her new role as wife and mother to Darlene. Red & Connie owned and operated the Mobile Gas Station in Tallulah, LA for many years. They enjoyed hunting and traveling together. During this time, Connie studied and passed her tests to become a beautician. She cut hair for many years in Tallulah. She loved her clients and getting to be friends with each one of them.
In 1979, tragedy struck and Red died suddenly of a heart attack. Connie with her overcoming way was heartbroken but picked herself up and pressed on. She began nursing school and once again passed another set of tests to start a new career. She loved her years serving as a nurse in Oak Grove.
After many years, she met her second love, Ralph Constiner. Ralph won over Connie and many others with his charm and quick wit. He was a decorated veteran of War War II and always had a story to share. He and Connie had a lively and fun relationship. They enjoyed competition with each other which was displayed daily as they tuned into Jeopardy and the Wheel of Fortune to see who could get the most questions correct. They also enjoyed dominoes and Yahtzee that they played often with their grand girls Carey and Kristen.
One highlight of Connie’s life was in 2003, when she was able to take the girls on a special trip to Hawaii. They spent 8 days making memories from snorkeling to eating at a luau and bargaining at the marketplace for special jewelry.
Connie loved beautiful jewelry and traveling all over the country. She traveled from coast to coast including Yellowstone, Mt. Rushmore, Yosemite, Carlsbad Cavern, the beaches of Florida, the Painted Desert, the Grand Canyon, Sequoia National Forest, Niagara Falls, and even Juarez, Mexico. She often commemorated her trips by collecting rocks from each place she visited. You could find them lining her flowerbeds where she would rattle off where each one came from.
In 1999, Connie lost her second husband Ralph to lung cancer. Yet, she pressed on and continued to live a full life. She persevered throughout her life with grit and determination. She would freely speak of how the Lord provided for her in every season with various jobs and friends to help along the way. Even into her last years, one of her favorite things was to host family and friends in her home. She made her famous pot of soup served with her equally famous burnt bread.
Just as her grand girls were her pride and joy, the great-grands were the highlight of her later years. She lit up when they visited and loved sharing her peppermints with them. She loved to show off their pictures, accomplishments and brag on them to anyone who would listen.
Connie will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her. She has passed on her determination and feistiness to the next generation. You did not meet her and forget her. We are grateful that she is now at peace and her struggles have ceased forevermore.

Sherrie Ellen Lemons - April 10, 1968 - February 27, 2024

Departed: 02/27/2024 (Oak Grove)
Obituary Preview: SHERRIE ELLEN LEMONS, AGE 55 OAK GROVE, LOUISIANA Cox Funeral Home Oak Grove, Louisiana
Funeral service for Sherrie Ellen Lemons, age 55, of Oak Grove, Louisiana will be 10:00 Am, Saturday, March 2, 2024, at Goodwill Baptist Church in Oak Grove, Louisiana with Dr. Chris Holloway officiating. Interment will be in Redwing Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Cox Funeral Home.
Visitation will be Friday from 5:00PM – 8:00PM, March 1, 2024, at Goodwill Baptist Church in Oak Grove, Louisiana.
She is preceded in death by her brother, David Robert Lemons; step mother, Margaret “Darlene” Lemons; and her sister, Kathy Mansfield.
Pallbearers will be Luke Holloway, Jared Roper, Devin Roper, Brandon Toney, Jacob Thames, Riley Taylor, and Gerald Lemons. Sherrie On February 27 th, Sherrie Ellen Lemons left behind far more than her nearly 2 decades battle with cancer. She left a shining example of a life lived simply, loving, and faithfully, for her rather large immediate family. Sherrie is survived by her father, Robert “Bobby” Guillet Lemons of Oak Grove, Louisiana; mother, Dorothy Imogene Townsend and Johnny of Bastrop, Louisiana; son, David Michael Lemons and his wife Victoria of West Monroe, Louisiana; grandson, Daniel “Grayson” Lemons; sister, Cindy Smith of Goodwill, Louisiana; sister, Linda Holloway and husband Chris of Charenton, Louisiana; Tammy Collins and husband Marvin of Redwing, Louisiana;
sister, Sue Anna Sullivan and husband Stacey of Goodwill, Louisiana. Amazing how frequently her smile is referenced when talking of Sherrie. The brilliance of her smile captured the light of her genuine gentleness. Gentleness, but never confused with weakness. For she possessed a quiet strength and abiding hope that fueled her determination
to face not only the challenges of cancer, but of life, with a grateful heart and tender hand. As one of 7 siblings in the Lemons household, Sherrie had a robust, beautifully chaotic, upbringing, in all the best of ways childhood can offer in a home that is full of love, faith, chores, shenanigans, and laughter. Although her older and only brother, “David” Robert Lemons, passed from this life at a young age, the influence of his intellect, wit, and presence in her life remained. To the point, that she also named her only child, her son, Michael, David in remembrance of her brother. She was also preceded in death by her older sister Kathy
Mansfield, and her beloved (step) mom Margaret “Darlene” Lemons. Sherrie was a hands-on, there for you, Mom. She was grateful for her little boy, Michael, and the utter joy his presence gifted her life. She did not allow the circumstances surrounding her diagnoses to interfere with her being a great Mom. She desired to be there for her son Michael for all the stages of his life. She was thankful too for the gift of time granted to see her son successfully obtain his college degree, share excitement in his marriage to Toriee, and watch her little boy become a Dad to her ever so cherished grandson Grayson. Even while silently suffering with the effects of treatment, she showed up to be there for whatever way she could for her son, daughter-in-law, and to babysit her grandson. And, how she loved being Nana to Grayson. Even when walking was too difficult, she gave Grayson ‘buggy’ rides on her cart, and
it remains unknown which of the two enjoyed the rides the most. Sherrie had easily recognizable tenderness about her that was demonstrated even in the way she cared for plants, especially those that bloomed. She inherited her Momma Dean’s green thumb trait and shared her Grandmother’s enjoyment of plants. She was attentive, watering that which needed watering, pruning that which needed to be taken away. And such was her way in interactions with others. Noticing, observing, tenderly touching, and moving about that
which she could for others. Sherrie faced life with a resolve that things would work out and while her fight was very personal, she did not fight alone. She drew from the companionship and light-hearted fun she found in beloved pets Rusty and Trouble and was thankful that she was surrounded with the love, faith, and helping hands of her family. In one of her rounds with cancer, her sisters all loaded up the group and took Sherrie to see the ocean for her first and only time. Matching shirts and smiles, they encouraged her and one another. In addition to the joy of the women in her life, Sherrie was blessed by the example of love, strength, and resilience of her Dad, Bobby Lemons. She was proud not only to be his daughter, definitely a Daddy’s girl, but to see that same character she admired in her Dad developing in her son Michael. She was proud and
thankful for the way he cared for her while hospitalized and beyond along with his wife Toriee. Sherrie did not give into despair. Not to say there wasn’t disappointment, or struggles, but despair is debilitating. It hinders life. Regardless of the loss or turmoil around her, she persevered. She fought for life. She looked forward believing that she would see the goodness of the Lord, and she did in ways we will never know, and through all who loved her, her family, and her friends. In the gift of time to hold her grandson. She was blessed by God with a life immersed in love and she knew it. Was grateful for it. Sherrie is, and forever will be, a beautiful, serene beacon remembered for the tenderness of her touch, the light of her smile, and the ever-present hope she embraced and shared. That is why it’s obvious she would want the same for her family now, to know the power she found in Scripture such as found in Psalms 27:13: “I would have despaired unless I had believed that I would see the goodness of the Lord” (Psalms 27:13). And now, in the sweet by and by with family members that made it to their heavenly home before her, Sherrie’s life continues in the goodness of the Lord and her love and
example remains with us all.

Why are obituaries important?

They help to notify others of the person's passing, share details about their life and accomplishments, and provide an opportunity for friends and family to pay their respects.

Who typically writes an obituary?
