Joseph Gillen Evans - March 26, 1968 - April 19, 2024

Departed: 04/19/2024 (Bastrop)
Obituary Preview: JOSEPH GILLEN EVANS COX FUNERAL HOME BASTROP, LOUISIANA
Joseph Gillen Evans was born at Garnier Clinic in Bastrop, Louisiana on March 26, 1968.  He passed away peacefully on Friday morning, April 19, 2024 in Alexandria, Louisiana.  Joe is preceded in death by his mother Joanne Gillen Smith, his brother, David Harp Evans, step-brother Keith Boudreaux, and his grandparents Bonnie Martin Gillen and Joseph Gillen and Vivian Harp Evans and Carnel Evans.
Joseph, Joe, Cousin Joe, whatever he was known to you by, was loved by all.   He was a veteran of the United States Army,  attended Louisiana Tech for a very short time, was a vagabond traveler while working for AutoZone, and a talented massage therapist.   Joe often got himself into some questionable situations.   However he had the knack, luck, ability, and the gift of gab to usually come out of such predicaments with newfound friendships and adventurous stories.   "Hey man" or Hey brother" often times preceded any storyline or sentence he spoke.  Joe also had the innate ability to move around many social circles and make everyone feel accepted and at ease in his presence.   He could be the life of the party, your trusted confidant, or if you were in need he was your "Good Samaritan."  He thoroughly enjoyed helping others.  He would give you his last dollar, even if he had to borrow it from someone else, to ease your burden.
It was no secret that Joe fought many personal battles and demons, however he never blamed others for his mistakes, he took responsibility for his actions and he persevered.  The last few months Joe faced many health challenges but he did not let his struggles define him. He renewed old friendships, visited with family, went to Florida to move a friend to a new home,  and he fought hard to keep on living everyday to make new stories and memories with his friends and family.  As a testament to his love and the joy he received in giving to others, Joe through his choice to be an organ donor, gifted his corneas to improve the sight of a fortunate recipient. However, as much as Joe was loved here on earth he knew there was a place prepared for him in the loving presence of his Lord and Savior who also loved him and welcomed him into a place of eternal joy and peace.  The greatest decision he ever made was asking Jesus to come into his heart and become a child of God.  Joe has received his reward, is healed, and at peace.  Thanks be to God!   ...."Love Ya Man"
Joe is survived by his parents Dan and Shirley Evans, step-brother, Dale Boudreaux and his wife Donna,  best friend David Bass and his wife Karen, aunts Norma Evans and Patricia Evans, numerous cousins, and many friends.
A time of visitation for family and friends will begin at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, April 27, 2024 followed by memorial services celebrating Joe's life at 11:00 a.m. at the Chapel of Cox Funeral Home of Bastrop with Pastor Jeffrey Robinson officiating.   Joe will be laid to rest with family at the Bonne-Idee Harp Cemetery.

Departed: 01/15/2024 (Bastrop)
Obituary Preview: LINDA JANE WHITE CARR COX FUNERAL HOME BASTROP & DELHI LOUISIANA
Linda Jane White Carr was born August 13, 1948 in Delhi, Louisiana to the late Martha Jane "Mottsie" Bryan White and Sidney Davis White, II. She passed away on January 15, 2024 at the LeGrand Health and Rehabilitation Center in Bastrop, Louisiana. Along with her parents Mrs. Carr is preceded in death by an aunt, Mary Bryan "DeeDee" Thomas; uncles, William Lamar "Billy" Bryan, George Bennett Bryan, and John Carl "Penny" Bryan; and a beloved cousin, James Calvin "Jim" Thomas.
Linda was a lifelong resident of Delhi, Louisiana and a member of the Delhi Presbyterian Church. She was a respected and beloved teacher at Delhi Elementary School for many years. After retiring from the school system, she became the education facilitator at the Tallulah Women's Prison where she continued teaching the women studying to obtain their GED. Linda will be remembered for the love and devotion she had for her family.
Her grandsons Eli and Hudson were the light of her life as she was their “Nonny”. Although she was theirs, she was also Nonny to a host of friends and teammates. Her joy was hitting the road for every game to watch her grandsons play football and baseball. If there were no games scheduled Nonny tended to end up at practice invited or not to every one’s surprise to find out who all wanted to go out afterwards to eat. She was also known to lend a helping hand to any umpire or referee that needed clarification of rules or assistance with calls if need be. Nonny brought joy wherever she was and we know that Heaven is a lot louder and ballparks will be much quieter.
Linda was a devoted fan of the St. Frederick Warriors. Among other things she loved were LSU Tiger Football and Baseball and Kim Mulkey’s Lady Tiger Basketball. She also looked forward to her many annual trips with her dearest of friends better known as the “Buzzurd Bells”. Special thanks to Dr. Kenneth E. McDonald III., the nursing staffs of both Richland Parish Hospital-Delhi and LeGrand Health and Rehabilitation Center in Bastrop, LA and to devoted special caregiver Emma Washington.
Mrs. Carr is survived by her son, Steven Lamar Carr and his wife Tiffany Garrett Carr; beloved grandsons and the apples of her eyes, Eli Graham Carr and Hudson Bennett Carr; brother, Sidney Davis "Trip" White, III; an aunt, Ann Lynn Bryan; and a host of cousins and extended family.
