Obituary Preview: Jane M. (Bosley) Boyd (80) of Town Hill Road in Whitingham passed away peacefully at Southwestern Vermont Medical Center in Bennington, Vermont on June 21, 2023, after a brief period of declining health. Born on July 5, 1942, in North Adams, MA, the daughter of the late William E. Bosley and Myrtle E. (Berard) Bosley. Jane grew up on Bosley hill in Readsboro, attended Readsboro School and graduated from Whitingham High School as president of the first class to graduate from the new Whitingham School Facility in 1960. At a young age, Jane learned how to play piano. Although she professed to not know how to read music, she could usually play any song requested. In her teen years she played piano and organ at the Readsboro Baptist Church as well as regular dance recitals and other local events. Jane was proud to be trained at the Henry Bishop School of Nursing in Pittsfield, MA. She became the School Nurse and Town Nurse in Whitingham and served for nearly 50 years, fondly known as “Nurse Jane.” Her natural skill for healing, mending, counseling, and cuddling her patients and friends of every age, provided warm comfort for everyone she touched. She spent many years and travelled many miles making house calls to care for the elderly and the sick and to provide end of life support for those in need, no matter the day of the week or the weather. Jane married Donald Boyd of Whitingham on October 12, 1963, in Readsboro. She lived on Sadawga Lake and Town Hill in Whitingham for 60 years where she raised her family and welcomed visitors all days and all hours. Jane knew how to have fun. She often entertained her guests by playing her accordion and singing late into the night. Summer clambakes are still remembered by family and friends as a noteworthy annual event where the true meaning of “fun was had by all” will not be forgotten. In 1980 Maria Theresa Gonzalez, a student from Chile, became a part of Jane’s family. A highlight of her life was a trip to Chile in 2006 to visit Maria and meet her extended family on the coast of South America. Another memorable trip included a Caribbean cruise that Jane hosted for her family 2012. Family over everything. Jane was a quietly powerful head of the family. Her most treasured time was spent with her family. Intimate gatherings at home or away were always special. In recent years, “Jane’s Deck” was the place to find her. Food, fun, and laughter were always on the menu. Friends were always welcome to sit and chat and watch her remarkable collection of wild birds with a view of Sadawga Lake. Jane is survived by her husband Donald Boyd and her children, Naomi Bolognani and husband Richard and Seth Boyd and wife Kerri, all of Whitingham, her grandchildren, Tarryn Schneider and husband Keith of Center Rutland, Vermont, Skyler Boyd of Muskego, Wisconsin and Sadie Boyd of Whitingham, her great grandchildren, Taden and Karver Schneider, her brother, Robert Bosley and wife Isabel of Readsboro. Jane’s grandson Jarred Bolognani passed away in 2016. Her brother Edward Bosley and sister Joyce Russel also passed before her. Memorial services will include an open-house celebration of her life at her home at 103 Town Hill Road on Saturday July 8, 2023, from 1:00-4:00pm. Refreshments will be served. Jane’s wish was for music, laughter, and memories. Donald E Ward - January 07, 1931 - June 02, 2023

Departed: 06/02/2023 (Wilmington)
Obituary Preview: "Donald “Donnie” Earl Ward of East Dover, Vermont, passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, June 2, 2023, at the age of 92. He is survived by his wife, Abigail; daughter, Kathleen (from his late ex-wife, Lena Gregorowitz); and granddaughter, Stacy, daughter of the late Wayne “Blackie” Blackadar. His funeral and celebration of life will be held Thursday, June 8, 2023, at the West Dover Congregational Church at 11:00 am, with a reception immediately following at the West Dover Inn 1846 Tavern next door to the church.
Don was a proud Air Force veteran who returned to his hometown of Branford, CT, upon completing his service in the Korean War. After working at the telephone company for many years, he moved to Vermont because of his love of skiing. There he built his successful electrical company, Ward Electric. Although dedicated to his business, he nonetheless enjoyed every weekend skiing at Mount Snow in the winter or playing tennis at the Sitzmark in the summer. Early retirement was an easy choice for Don as he then turned his attention to woodworking and house building. Retired but never still, Don demonstrated how the accomplishment of hard work amplified the pleasure of a cold beer at the end of the day. Don remains affectionately known as Pop Pop by his granddaughter. Stories of his cowboy-hat-wearing gruff attitude contrasted by his underlying kindness and steadfast commitment to doing right by others will always be remembered."
If friends desire, memorial gifts in Don’s memory may be made to The Veterans’ Home in Bennington, VT, ℅ Covey, Allen and Shea Funeral Service, P.O. Box 215 Wilmington, VT 05363To send the family personal condolences please visit www.sheafuneralhomes.com.

Obituary Preview: Judith A. LaFiura, age 80, of East Dover, Vermont died on April 16, 2023 at Crescent Manor Rehabilitation home in Bennington, Vermont of complications following her long battle with Alzheimer’s disease.
Born in Newton, Massachusetts on February 2, 1943, she was the daughter of the late Donald and Helena (Mezeiva) Allen.
She is survived by her beloved husband, Charles LaFiura of East Dover, her sons, Todd LaFiura (his wife Caroline) of Rockport, Maine, Gregory LaFiura (his wife Jennifer) of Allendale, New Jersey, Judy’s grandchildren, Brit and Greer LaFiura and Reid LaFiura, Judy’s sister, Constance Nelson (her husband Marshall) of Venice, Florida, her daughter Christina Hungria of Austin, Texas (her husband Anderson) and children Mila and Roman and numerous cousins.
Judy spent her early years living in numerous locations in the United States, as the family followed her father during his career in corporate America. Eventually, the family settled in Ridgewood, New Jersey where she graduated from Ridgewood High School in 1961. It was in high school in 1958 that she first met her husband, Charles, thus beginning a relationship of 65 years, first in a courtship of eight years then in a marriage of 57 years beginning in 1966.
Judy obtained her BA degree in English in 1965 from Douglas College, the women’s college of Rutgers University, where she was elected president of her class by her classmates. She then taught 8th grade English in Ridgewood for 9 years before her children were born. After her children became older, she attended the Ramapo College of New Jersey where she was awarded another bachelor’s degree, this one in art. Upon graduation from Ramapo College, she taught art and advanced American literature at Northern Highlands Regional High School in Allendale, New Jersey for 8 years before retiring from teaching in 2002.
Judy and her husband raised their family in Ho-Ho-Kus, New Jersey which they called home for 22 years. While living in Ho-Ho-Kus, Judy served as an officer of the Ho-Ho-Kus women’s club and on the vestry of Saint Elizabeth’s Episcopal Church in Ridgewood.
Judy and her family spent much time skiing in the Deerfield Valley of Southern Vermont as her boys were growing up, during which time Judy and her husband determined to retire to East Dover in 2005. Judy very much enjoyed her life in the Deerfield Valley, socializing, boating, hiking, golfing, cross country skiing and snowshoeing with friends and family. Before Alzheimer’s disease began to limit her abilities, Judy gave back to the Deerfield Valley in many ways, serving on the Board of The West River Habitat for Humanity, as the President of the Friends of the Dover Free Library, as an usher at Memorial Hall, as a distributor of diapers pursuant to the Baby Basics charity, as a helper at the Food Pantry and as a member of the Deerfield Valley Rotary Club.
Judy’s painting and other art forms were an integral part of her life. While in New Jersey, she created many of the stage settings and much of the scenery for numerous high school theatrical productions and also painted the murals depicting biblical scenes on the walls of the activities room of Saint Elizabeth’s Church. In Vermont, she took part in art projects sponsored by the Deerfield Valley Chamber of Commerce by painting two chairs in “the Best Seat in Vermont” and by painting the bear that was selected as the “Raffle Bear” in the “Bears in the Valley” fund raiser. She also served as one of the judges of the Holiday lighting display competition in Dover.
Judy very much enjoyed visiting with family and friends who lived away from the Deerfield Valley and having them visit with her and her husband in East Dover, Vermont. Traveling abroad with her husband and friends was also an important and enjoyable part of Judy’s life. Friends and family in describing Judy’s life and considering her epitaph would often say that “she always did the right thing.”
Celebrations of Judy’s life will be held in the Deerfield Valley of Vermont and in New Jersey at dates and places to be determined.
