Dee leaves behind the light of her life, her daughter Sophia, her sister Cherie and her “brother-in-law” Jim, with their children Kris, Derrick, Josh and Caitlin, her brother Scott and his wife Danielle with their children Sierra & Evan. She also loved going to concerts, going to the casino, having suppers with her friends and their children, writing poetry and she loved the beach.
With many thanks to Nancy Folsom - her hospice nurse, and Lisa Trempe, who not only helped to care for Dee during her days but also gave great support to Cherie and the family throughout Dee’s illness.
A celebration of life will be announced when warmer weather arrives, as Dee’s wishes were for us to celebrate her life with music, laughing, food and enjoying the warm weather together! We will be asking those that attend to bring with them a story or memory written/typed on paper, with a photo if possible for us to create a memory book for Sophia to forever have more details of her mom’s life.

Patricia M. Spettmann - August 25, 1961 - January 17, 2023

Departed: 01/17/2023 (Jaffrey)
Obituary Preview: Patricia ‘Trish’ Spettmann, 61, passed away unexpectedly in the comfort of her home on Tuesday, January 17, 2023. Trish was born in Yonkers, NY, on August 25, 1961, to loving parents Patrick and Licia Servillo. She and her sisters, Mary and Annie Servillo grew up together in Queens, where they often participated in theatrical performances, musical productions, and folk troupes where Trish met life-long friends and shared many of her artistic talents.
Despite a deep love for music and the arts, her one true wish in life was to have a family. This wish became reality when William Spettmann, Jr. entered her life and stole her heart. After what William regarded as the longest waiting period of his life, they married on April 8, 1989. Not long after, she was blessed with three beautiful children; Veronica, William, and Max. Despite her various talents and hobbies, there was never any doubt that Trish's true calling was being a mother. Known simply as "mom" by many friends and acquaintances, Trish's easy-going and loving demeanor, as well as her delicious Italian-American-influenced cooking style made her very popular amongst everybody who was fortunate enough to meet her.
The family lived in New York for many years, building countless incredible memories of weekend trips to the beach, creating unique and silly family traditions, and celebrating together every chance that they could. Throughout the years, the family raised a veritable menagerie of pets due to Trish’s deep love for all wildlife, and William's inability to ever say "no" to his incredible wife.
It was this very love for home, hearth, and nature that led Trish to move with William to Jaffrey, NH in 2020 to have a peaceful and fulfilling retirement. Her most recent passions were looking for wildlife in her backyard, anticipating the birth of her first grandchild, Lyla Grace Spettmann (the much-adored daughter to William and Alexandra Spettmann), experimenting with sourdough breads and other delicious treats, and watching the Yankee games from the beautiful comfort of her back porch. The last few years of her life resulted in a joy and peace unknown to many, but which she never once took for granted. It is hard at this time not to think of a passage from one of her favorite films, A Field of Dreams: John Kinsella: Is this Heaven?
Ray Kinsella: It’s [Jaffrey].
John: [Jaffrey?] I could have sworn this was Heaven. Ray: Is there a Heaven?
John: Oh yeah. It’s the place where dreams come true.
Ray: Maybe this is Heaven.
Trish was in her Heaven on Earth, so it is nice to imagine that her transition to Heaven was as simple as realizing her dreams had come true.
She is survived by her loving husband, children, daughter-in-law, granddaughter, sisters, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and close friends.
Family and friends are invited to calling hours on Friday, January 27, 2023 from 4:00 to 7:00pm at the Cournoyer Funeral Home, 33 River Street, Jaffrey, NH 03452.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, January 28, 2023, at 11:00am in St. Patrick Church, 89 Main Street, Jaffrey, NH. Reverend Wilfred Deschamps, Pastor, will be the celebrant. Burial will take place in the spring at St. Patrick Cemetery in Jaffrey.
In addition to or in lieu of flowers, Trish would have loved memorial donations to be made in her name to Turtle Mountain Animal Rescue. PO Box 896, Rolla, ND 58367.

Sylvia Gray Sears - November 22, 1923 - January 04, 2023

Departed: 01/04/2023 (Jaffrey)
Obituary Preview: Mrs. Sylvia Gray Sears, lately of Keene, New Hampshire, died peacefully at the age of 99 in the early hours of January 4, 2023, at American House Keene. Blessedly lucid, she had, in the days surrounding the Christmas holidays, enjoyed visits from her children, her grandchildren, and her great grandchildren. She was cherished and revered in her immediate and extended family for her virtues, devotion, and wisdom.
Sylvia and her husband of 73 years, Alden, lived most of their adult lives in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, where he was a professor at Moravian College, and she worked part-time as a social worker while raising three children. She was born in Keene, New Hampshire; he in Ludlow, Vermont. They met at Bates College where they earned their undergraduate degrees. They shared the Yankee virtue of frugality which they practiced with joy. Because of their prudence and vision, they built an extended family community of summer cottages in Winchester, New Hampshire, where generations of cousins have grown closer and learned boating, swimming, and, when the elders weren’t watching (which was rare) how to play with fire.
When her husband took a sabbatical year at Oxford, she managed an upgrade from the family’s row house in Pennsylvania to the walled home of an Oxford don in the idyllic village of Iffley. (The dollar was strong against the pound). Sylvia and Alden read Tolkien and C.S. Lewis to the children as the Thames burbled in the background. In the spring of 1964, she organized the family’s exploration of “the Continent” using the guide Europe on Five Dollars a Day—which she interpreted as meaning five dollars for the whole family. The wonderful effect of this was that the family stayed in all sorts of interesting places—pensiones in Italy, a convent in Rome, and various bed-and-breakfast establishments. Her eldest, Stanton, was emerging as an artist so Sylvia made sure he (and other family members) saw, for example, Michelangelo’s Pieta, at touchable range—which was possible in those days. The Louvre, Uffizi, and the Rijksmuseum were all on the list. In later years, she was an inveterate armchair traveler, always curious about experiences others had had in every corner of the world. Moravian College international students lived for many years in the family home which was proximate to the campus.
Both as social worker and mother she was splendidly skilled with children, able to read the signs of impending meltdown and gently re-direct. She made sure children were busy and occupied and learning—without necessarily knowing it. When grandchildren arrived she set aside time (and a special space) for reading with each one.
In Bethlehem she was active in community organizations, most notably the League of Women Voters, for which she was the long-serving local president. For many years she put her formidable command of grammar and usage to use as a volunteer English language tutor for international graduate students and their spouses. She welcomed these students and their families into her home and built lasting friendships. Graduating students who were returning to their home countries would introduce her to new arrivals with glowing recommendations.
When they were well into their eighties, Sylvia and Alden still enjoyed dancing together. At Forest Lake in Winchester, he would tend the buildings and grounds while she organized the Saturday Night picnic. While not a natural athlete, Sylvia encouraged physical activity and the mastery of skills. Because of her long-established habit of daily walking, she remained mobile to the very end of her life.
She is survived by three children, Stanton, Douglas, and Martha; six grandchildren, Russell and Marshall Anderson, Sarah Sears Qin and Hannah Sears, Grayson Sears and Tansy Sears; and three great grandchildren, Tristan Anderson-McKellar and Elliott Anderson-McKellar, and Silvia Qin. She cherished her children’s spouses Andrea Myklebust, Mary Pennock Sears, Cathy Anastasion, and Douglas Anderson. Due to the breadth of her lifespan she was able to welcome to the family the spouses of her grandchildren, Yening Qin, Kathryn McKellar, and Hannah Campbell.
Her legacy is physically manifested in the family’s cherished retreat in New Hampshire. The far greater legacy is the set of habits, skills, and dispositions that she worked hard to instill and nurture in her children and grandchildren—always in understated and diplomatic ways. Her family is abundantly grateful for her devotion and will miss seeing her at her favorite spot on the porch of her cottage at the Lake, where, in later years, she would read and rest, and arise brightly to engage with whomever rapped on the screen door.
No public services are planned at this time. Burial will take place at a later date, in the Evergreen Cemetery in Winchester, New Hampshire.

Linda Ann Santoro - February 12, 1959 - December 28, 2022

Departed: 12/28/2022 (Jaffrey)
Obituary Preview: Linda Ann Santoro, 63, passed away on December 28, 2022 after a long and valiant battle with cancer, with her family and friends by her side.
Born in Worcester, Massachusetts, Linda’s family roots trace back to Maine and the American Revolution, as well as to the more recent Swedish and Italian immigrants who came to New England after World War I. The fact that her birthday, February 12 (1959) was the same day as President Abraham Lincoln’s birthday was a source of great joy for Linda. She loved her community and her country. As a member of the Mary Varnum Platts Peterborough Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, she was active in the DAR’s annual recognition of students from Jaffrey, Rindge and Temple on the occasion of their learning the Pledge of Allegiance and the history and tradition of our flag.
Among Linda’s earliest memories are of whole families coming to pick vegetables in her grandfather’s enormous garden. Her grandfather, Reverend Bernardo Santoro, founded and built the first Pentecostal Church in Worcester with a congregation of over 200 members. He turned his 14-acre homestead into one large vegetable garden for those in need. Congregants and neighbors would come after church to bring food home to their families and to give to others in need in their own neighborhoods. It was this spirit of caring and generosity that was a hallmark of Linda’s life.
Her parents, Shirley Carlson and Bernard Santoro, met on a blind date and lived much of their married life in Holden, Massachusetts. When her father retired, he sought an old house with enough acreage and water so he could have gardens. They found the perfect spot in Jaffrey on Gilmore Pond Road with a stream that ran through the property and enough acreage for a tractor. Once they were settled, Linda found a home in Rindge so she would be nearby to spend time with them and care for them. Linda will join her parents at the Cutter Extension Cemetery in the heart of Jaffrey Center.
Linda attended Holden Elementary and graduated from Wachusett Regional High School in 1977. She loved school and was curious about everything. What she didn’t know, or wanted to know more about, she learned. Throughout her life, Linda was known as a person who could talk to anyone knowledgeably and enthusiastically about almost any subject. Above all, and throughout her life, despite circumstances, Linda possessed a bone-deep cheerfulness and loving-kindness to everyone. Her classmates said of her: “Blessed are those who can give without remembering and take without forgetting”.
While she was still in high school, Linda worked at RH White Department Store in its payroll office. She loved the experience of working in an office, making friends, and getting the job done. After graduation, she studied for her pilot’s license and learned to fly at Worcester Airport. While studying for her pilot’s license, she also worked as receptionist for CK Smith in Worcester, at the time the largest oil supply and delivery business in the northeast. Her natural ability to recognize voices on the phone was an asset for the company during the 1970’s oil crisis when a friendly and familiar greeting helped to diffuse customers’ frustrations.
With the increase in business computerization, Linda joined the Information Technology Department at Arrow Automotive Industries in Framingham, MA. She quickly became a member of the company’s top customer team and was selected to travel with her team for a weekend tour of England’s historic country homes. She recalled that it was like living at Downton Abby for a weekend. When their flight home was canceled, Arrow Automotive put Linda and her colleagues on the first available return flight which turned out to be the Concord. She flew back to Boston at MACH 2 in 3 ½ hours.
Following what turned out to be her first stint at Arrow Automotive, Linda joined AAA in Worcester to learn the travel business. She was recruited to return to Arrow Automotive to join its Corporate Credit department. One of her fondest memories during those days at Arrow were the trips to Nashville with senior staff where she met singer-songwriter Toni Wine, her boss’ sister. Toni, female lead in The Archie’s who wrote “Groovey Kind of Love”, the #1 song of the year in 1988, also sang “Always on My Mind” with Willie Nelson. On one of Linda’s trips there, Toni took her to see the Highwaymen in concert where Linda met performers Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings, Kris Kristofferson and Willie Nelson whose intense gaze and deep blue eyes made a lasting impression.  After Arrow Automotive closed, Linda traveled to Maine where her family had a summer home and worked at Farley and Son Landscaping and Garden Supply.
When Linda moved to Rindge she adopted two rescue cats, Oliver and “Toula”, meaning “light” in Greek. She joined the finance department at Belletete’s and began volunteering with many area organizations. One of those organizations was a local group intent on rebuilding and reopening a 1922 movie house, The Park Theatre, in the heart of Jaffrey’s downtown. While remaining on Belletete’s staff, Linda became the Theatre’s first employee in 2008. Working with a local IT consultancy, Steve Cooke of SBC Consultants, Linda set up and maintained the project’s electronic fund-raising and records system, among her many other activities to support the project. Her work is credited with being a significant part of the project’s success, 12 years and over $6 million dollars later, when the rebuilt Theatre opened its doors in 2020. This is but one example of Linda’s many gifts to her community and by which she will be remembered. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
Linda survived by her sister, Joann Santoro Bartlett and her husband James W. Bartlett who reside in Rutland, MA with their children Brian James and Reagan Elizabeth; her brother David Henry Santoro and his wife Margo Wintersgill Santoro of Stoddard, NH; her uncle and aunt, Kurt and Marie Carlson of Brewster, MA; her cousin Robert H. Carlson and wife Marilene and many more beloved cousins.
A celebration of life will be held at The Cournoyer Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 33 River Street, Jaffrey, NH 03452 on Friday, January 6, 2023, with calling hours from 11 am followed by her Funeral Service at 12 noon.

Departed: 12/07/2022 (Jaffrey)
Obituary Preview: Christopher Patrick AuCoin of Wilton, NH passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on Wednesday, December 7, 2022, at the age of 52.
Christopher was born September 29, 1970, in Keene, New Hampshire, son of Brent and Paula (LeTourneau) AuCoin.
Chris lived in Jaffrey when he was young, and later moved to Merrimack, NH where he graduated from Merrimack High School in 1989.
After high school, Chris joined the United States Marine Corps. He served from 1989 to 1994 and completed basic training at MCRD Parris Island, South Carolina. His military occupation specialty was infantry rifleman, where he was an expert in combat arms and tactics and fire team/squad leadership. He was assigned to New Hampshire’s own Bravo Company 1st Battalion 25th Marines. This infantry rifle company was highly trained as a cold-weather mountain warfare unit, training both here in NH’s White Mountains, and in northern Norway with NATO, in joint teamwork exercises. He fought courageously in the Persian Gulf War and made numerous lifelong friendships with his fellow Marines. He has always been a loyal friend, and a dedicated service man which manifested in meritorious service during his years as a Marine. Chris was always the first to volunteer for difficult assignments and ceaselessly gave maximum effort in all missions during Operation Desert Storm. He excelled as a natural leader, and motivated other Marines with his dedication and pursuit of excellence.
Chris had earned the rank of Lance Corporal and consistently kept his fire team at maximum combat effectiveness. He also displayed strong composure and was an uplifting presence during the difficult times. In one particular event, a Gunnery Sergeant was checking the frontline positions late at night and found Chris lifting weights with a pole attached to sandbags, down low in his fighting position. Just as his dedication to lifting never changed due to circumstances, nor did his selfless service to his country and his friends ever change. Chris served his country with honor and distinction, earning the Combat Action Ribbon, the Southwest Asia Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Sea Service Deployment Medal, and the Kuwait Liberation Medal. He was an inspiration to all who knew him.
After his service with the Marines, Chris came home and studied criminal justice, and earned his bachelor’s degree in business administration from Southern New Hampshire University. He was currently enrolled in the master’s program for psychology at SNHU.
Chris’ law enforcement career began when he was hired by the Amherst, NH Police Department in 1991 and graduated from the 95th New Hampshire Police Academy. He was hired by New Hampshire State Police on June 11, 1993 and was assigned to Troop B as a Trooper where he served as a Field Training Officer and S.W.A.T. Unit member. In 2003 he was promoted to Sergeant at Troop B and in 2004 he was named Commander of the SWAT Team. In 2005, Chris was transferred to Troop C, when he accepted a promotion to Staff Sergeant as the Assistant Troop Commander. His time away from Troop B would be short as in 2008, he would return as the Troop Commander with a Rank of Lieutenant. Upon promotion to Captain in 2011, Chris spent time in both Operations and Support Services prior to his final promotion to Major in 2012. He retired from the division in 2015, with over 22 years of dedicated service. Chris’s career accomplishments can only be summarized by the men that walked beside him, as brothers. Chris was proud to know and serve with all of his friends, and the AuCoin family is forever grateful for the men and women that never left Chris’ side.
Chris enjoyed weightlifting, hiking, running, biking, skiing, fishing, cooking, and cherished bringing his girls lattes. He completed multiple marathons and Iron Man competitions. Physical fitness was a staple in his life. Chris first was a Marine, then a leader in the New Hampshire State Police. He contributed to the well-being of us all. He loved God, family, his country, and lived his life as such.
Chris is predeceased by his grandparents Elmer AuCoin in 1991, Albertena AuCoin in 2017, and Leona LeTourneau in 2005.
Chris will be forever remembered by his parents, Brent and Paula AuCoin, his wife of 29 years, Tracy (Key) AuCoin of Wilton, NH, his three daughters, Kelsey AuCoin and her fiancé Kyle Behnert of York, PA, Bethany AuCoin and Lindsay AuCoin both of Wilton, NH, his two brothers, Nate AuCoin of Rindge, and Chad AuCoin of Bennington, his friends of the New Hampshire State Police and the US Marine Corps, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins aunts and uncles.

Walter had a deep concern for the souls of those around him: his family, those he knew, and anyone he came in contact with. He was a prayer warrior. He knew the only way to eternal life was through the merits of His Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
In 2019, Walter and Elvi moved to South Carolina to be closer to family. There he was diagnosed with Lewey Body Dementia. His loving wife, devotedly cared for him until he went home to be with his Lord, that he so longed to see.
Walter was known for interpreting sermons from Finnish to English (audibly and on paper). He was well read in many subjects, especially the one most dear to his heart, Christianity. Walter was also known for his many phone calls to people near and far. Even if, in Walter fashion, they were quick and to the point. He was always so happy to share that he was blessed with 114 grandchildren and 88 great-grandchildren. He loved introducing any of his children to his many friends, often pulling out his wallet picture of his family. He was very hospitable and giving.
Walter was predeceased by his parents, Arthur and Helen (Autio) Ketola, a sister, Bernice Somero, a son-in-law, Brian Karlsen, five grandchildren: Cainan Talo, Melodie Lampinen, Natalia Ketola, Victor Karlsen and Ava Woodard. Along with a great-granddaughter, Emily Kuusisto.
He is survived by his loving wife Elvi of 56 years; his children: Joel (Denise) Ketola of Ephrata, WA, Rebecca (Brian) Karlsen of Jaffrey, NH, Elizabeth (Brian) Lampinen of Greer, SC, Leah (Keith) Dupuis of Jaffrey, NH, Sarah (Scott) Tikka of Calumet, MI, Priscilla (Abraham) Mills of Inman, SC, Abigail (Bud) Spaulding of Lyman, SC, Rhoda (Jeff) Woodard of Campobello, SC, Abraham (Bethany) Ketola of New Ipswich, NH, Nicholas (Beth) Ketola of Lyman, SC, Benjamin (Alison) Ketola of New Ipswich, NH, Josiah (Ashley) Ketola of Rindge, NH, James (Julia) Ketola of Greer, SC, and Ethan (Amber) Ketola of Lyman, SC; his brother, Warren (Pijro Liisa) Ketola; two sisters: Lorraine (Nathan) Olson and Brenda (Rod) Hannu, along with his beloved grandchildren, great-grandchildren, many brother and sister in laws whom he loved, nieces, nephews and numerous dear brothers and sisters in Christ.
Family and friends are invited to calling hours on Friday, December 2, 2022 from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the Apostolic Lutheran Church, 117 Goen Road, New Ipswich, NH 03071.
The funeral service for Walter will also be held at the Apostolic Lutheran Church at 11:00 AM on Saturday, December 3, 2022.
Burial will take place later in the family lot at Hillside Cemetery in Rindge.
