Katie Rose Lancelle - August 31, 1983 - April 19, 2024

Departed: 04/19/2024 (Denmark)
Obituary Preview: Katie Rose Lancelle, 40, of Denmark, passed away peacefully at home on April 19, 2024 after a lengthy and courageous battle with Alzheimer’s disease.
Katie, the daughter of Paul and Nancy (Nesvacil) Lancelle, was born on August 31, 1983 in Beaver Dam, Wisconsin. She left us 134 days before her 41st birthday…which was ALWAYS a cause for massive celebration! She was a proud graduate of the Denmark High School class of 2002, and a further graduate of Syble Hopp School in De Pere. She was a past employee of Friendship Manor and Harmony House in Denmark. In her prime, Katie led a very active social life and was well known and made many friends in the Denmark area and beyond. If you were ever walking the aisles of Target with an infant in your stroller, there’s a good chance you’ve met Katie at some point. Some of her favorite and best memories came during her time served as “coach and manager” of both the Denmark and Kewaunee high school girl’s basketball teams.
In addition to her parents, Katie is survived by three loving (and teasing!) brothers and two wonderful and caring sisters in law, Garrett (Tara), Joe (Brenna) and Max. She is further survived by nieces and nephews Olivia, Gavin, Isabelle, (goddaughter) Jasper and Raena, her “special sisters” Angie Bielinski and Mandy Ruechel and several aunts, uncles and cousins. She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Nic and Maureen Nesvacil, paternal grandparents, OJ and Laurine Lancelle, uncle Jay Nesvacil, aunt Nora Olsen and her “little friend” Katie C. We also know that she was welcomed at the gates of heaven by some great Moms who also left us too soon….Ellen C. Sara B. Patty Y. and Monnie U.
A celebration of Katie’s life will be held Wednesday, April 24 at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Denmark, with visitation from 9:00-11:45 am and the memorial service beginning at 12:00 pm with Pastor Andrew Zoerb officiating.
The family would like to thank the staff at Aurora Hospice for the caring support provided these past several months, and especially Angie Bielinski for always being there. Also, to our network of friends who have paid us visits, brought over food, lent your shoulder and showed your support over the past couple years…it will never be forgotten.

When back in Wisconsin, John played two seasons with the Manitowoc Chiefs, a semi-professional football team. His passion for sports led him to being a longtime coach of basketball and football at St. Phillips school.
John met Clare Finnel at the 616 Club in 1959 and they were married at St. James Church, Cooperstown on August 20, 1960. John and Clare lived in Green Bay, Cooperstown and at the Circle Tap in New Denmark while starting their family. Together they had 5 children.

He was also involved in other businesses including Video Doctors and Pocket Change Arcade. It was in 1972 that he and John Duckett formed The Bar on Lime Kiln in Green Bay, and expanded to other areas later when his sons became involved. Any success in business, he attributed to his mentors (Eddie Whipp and R.O. Miller), partners (John, Gary, Mike, Dale, Brice, and Milt), employees and family.
John enjoyed many trips to Las Vegas and playing Blackjack, winning three tournaments. He even won his last big bet moments before passing. His other hobby and love was supporting and sponsoring local sports teams; including Circle Tap, Denmark Dukes, The Bar, Denmark Devilbears, and Denmark Youth Baseball & Softball. His passion for softball earned him an induction to the ISC Hall of Fame as a contributor in 2012. There is nothing that brought more joy to John than cheering on his own children and especially his grandchildren in all their sports and activities at Denmark, De Pere and West De Pere.
John gave back to the community in many ways including belonging to the VFW, American Legion, Denmark Lions, FFA Alumni, Knights of Columbus, Denmark School Board and Sting Cancer.

Winiecki (Kvitek), 61, of Maribel, WI, passed on to a new life with Christ on December 13, 2023, at Meng Hospice Residence in De Pere with family at her side following a courageous battle with breast cancer. Cindy was born to John & Marleen (Muench) Kvitek on September 29, 1962. She was a member of the 1980 graduating class at Denmark High School. Cindy married Greg Winiecki in 1983 and built an amazing life together, raising their children David and Lori and living on the same square country mile where she grew up. Their own slice of heaven. She is a proud grandmother to four wonderful grandsons whom she cherished profoundly.
She worked for Denmark State Bank for 27 years where she formed countless meaningful relationships with colleagues, customers, and members of the wider community. Cindy thoroughly loved serving God and her parish community as a lifelong member of Holy Trinity, playing the organ there, at St. Joseph in Kellnersville and any other parish in need of help, with Dad singing alongside her. They were a beautiful duet. The people she knew meant the world to her and she was so proud to support them throughout all aspects of their lives in the work and ministry she did.
She had a wonderful sense of humor, and you never knew she was picking on you until it was too late! Mom supported us all so much throughout our lives, in all of our endeavors, and fostered the love of learning. She loved to travel near and far with her family and made treasured memories in places like the Czech Republic, Florida, Door County, St. Germain, and more. She especially loved our annual fishing trip where she would quietly out-catch the rest of us while dropping fish in our laps to remove them from the hook so dirty hands didn’t have to turn the pages of the books she loved to read. She loved to thrift and enjoy a glass of wine. She was very active, enjoying running, long bike rides, and walks in the beautiful countryside. Her passion for sewing, quilting, canning, and anything homemade was so creative and beautiful, just like her. May she be known for her heart of gold and a glowing smile that she held onto through the very end.
She is survived by her husband and best friend of 40+ years, Greg Winiecki, who never left her side. Also, their son, David (Brianna) Winiecki, and their sons, Mason, Aden, and Asher, and their daughter, Lori (Brian) Borowski, and their son Arthur. Why are obituaries important?

Obituaries serve as a way to honor and celebrate the life of the deceased, while also providing important information to those who need to know about the passing. They help to notify people of the funeral or memorial service details, allowing them to pay their respects and offer condolences to the family.

Who writes an obituary?

Typically, the family of the deceased or a close friend writes the obituary. In some cases, a funeral home or obituary writer may assist with writing the obituary. The writer should be someone who knew the person well and can provide an accurate and heartfelt tribute.

What information should be included in an obituary?

A typical obituary includes the person's full name, age, date of birth and death, city of residence, and a brief biography highlighting their accomplishments, interests, and relationships. It may also include information about their survivors, such as spouse, children, grandchildren, and siblings.

How long should an obituary be?

The length of an obituary can vary depending on the publication or platform. Generally, it should be concise and to the point, ranging from a few sentences to a few paragraphs. Aim for 100-200 words for a traditional newspaper obituary.

Can I include photos in an obituary?

Yes, many online obituary platforms and funeral home websites allow you to upload photos or videos to accompany the obituary. This can be a meaningful way to share memories and celebrate the person's life.

How do I submit an obituary to a newspaper?

Contact the newspaper's obituary department directly to inquire about their submission process and deadlines. Be prepared to provide the necessary information and payment for the publication.

Can I write my own obituary?

Yes, some people choose to write their own obituary in advance. This can be a therapeutic exercise and ensure that your life story is told in your own words. However, it's essential to keep in mind that your loved ones may still want to add or modify certain details after your passing.

What is the difference between an obituary and a death notice?

A death notice is a brief announcement of someone's passing, usually including only basic information like name, age, and date of death. An obituary is a more detailed tribute that provides additional biographical information and context.
