Styx Chapman - Unknown - October 14, 2014

Departed: 10/14/2014 (CORSICANA)
Obituary Preview: We adopted Styx about 14 years ago from the Corsicana Animal Shelter. She was a wonderful addition to our family. She was very protective of me, but she only bit James on occasion. LOL. We had to put her down in October and it was one of the hardest things we have ever done. We miss her terribly but with another trip to the Animal Shelter we have welcomed Sydney to our home and he is a perfect addition to our family. Thanks Corsicana Animal Shelter for all you do in our community.

Maverick Lowry - Unknown - November 30, 2013

Departed: 11/30/2013 (CORSICANA)
Obituary Preview: Maverick Demidogg Lowry was a really good dog. His mother trained him, so it seemed like he was born knowing how to behave. He always watched what I was doing, and knew what to do (most of the time) without being told. He was a breach puppy, so he was attached to me from the minute I delivered him into this world. He has been a better friend to me than people could. The family got pretty attached to him too. My wife thought Mav was her dog, her kids thought he was their dog, and all 70 or 80 of his facebook friends waited for the release of his book "Internet Dating for Dogs" thinking whatever they wanted. I don't know what he was thinking, we didn't talk; we just shared Doritos and passed the time playing video games, watching movies, sitting on the porch and other guy stuff. I miss him quite a lot.

Cinnie Gray - Unknown - March 19, 2012

Departed: 03/19/2012 (CORSICANA)
Obituary Preview: Cinnie, was a 16 year old Pomeranian, and a loved member of our family. Today,March 19, 2012 she went home to a much better place: A place where she can sit under the shade tree, by the lake with Emmit, chase and catch that squirrel, finally get the neighbor's cat, who taunted her for years. Cinnie, was a great source of love, companionship, joy, affection, and comfort. Cinnie was a loyal member of out family: who loved her children, Gary and Robin Gray. There was a special bond between Cinnie and us, which can only be described as unconditional love. Cinnie girl: you will be missed and forever etched into our memories. Know this, my dear friend, you are loved and will be missed terribly. We will think of you every day. Tell Emmit, when you see him: we love and miss him.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is an obituary?

An obituary is a written notice that announces the death of a person, typically including their name, age, date of birth and death, and a brief biography. It is usually published in a newspaper, online, or in a funeral program to inform friends, family, and community members of the passing.

Why are obituaries important?

Obituaries serve as a way to honor and celebrate the life of the deceased, while also providing important information to those who knew them. They can also serve as a historical record, allowing future generations to learn about their ancestors.

Who writes an obituary?

Typically, the obituary is written by the family of the deceased, often with the assistance of a funeral home or obituary writer. In some cases, a close friend or colleague may also write an obituary.

What information should be included in an obituary?

A typical obituary includes the person's name, age, date of birth and death, place of residence, occupation, education, military service, hobbies, and surviving family members. It may also include a brief biography, accomplishments, and any notable achievements.

How long should an obituary be?

The length of an obituary can vary depending on the publication or website it will be published in. Generally, it should be concise and to the point, ranging from 100 to 500 words.

Can I include photos in an obituary?

Yes, many publications and websites allow you to include one or more photos with the obituary. This can be a nice way to personalize the tribute and make it more meaningful.

How much does it cost to publish an obituary?

The cost of publishing an obituary varies depending on the publication or website. Some newspapers and websites offer free or low-cost options, while others may charge a fee based on the length of the obituary or the number of photos included.

Can I write my own obituary?

Yes, it is becoming increasingly popular for people to write their own obituaries before they pass away. This can be a therapeutic exercise and ensure that your life story is told in your own words.

What is the difference between an obituary and a death notice?

A death notice is a brief announcement of someone's passing, usually including only the basic facts such as name, age, and date of death. An obituary is a longer, more detailed tribute that provides more information about the person's life.

Can I include humor in an obituary?

Absolutely! While an obituary should be respectful, it's okay to inject some humor or personality into the writing. This can help capture the essence of the person being honored.

How do I submit an obituary to a newspaper?

Contact the newspaper's obituary department directly to find out their submission guidelines and deadlines. You may need to provide proof of death, such as a death certificate or funeral home confirmation.

Can I publish an obituary online?

Yes! There are many online platforms and websites that allow you to publish an obituary, often with more flexibility and creative freedom than traditional newspapers.

How long does it take for an obituary to be published?

The timeframe for publishing an obituary varies depending on the publication or website. Some may publish immediately, while others may have a delay of several days or weeks.

Can I make changes to an obituary after it's been published?

This depends on the publication or website. Some may allow corrections or updates, while others may not. Be sure to proofread carefully before submitting the final version.

What if I want to keep the obituary private?

If you prefer not to share the obituary publicly, you can opt for a private or password-protected online posting. Alternatively, you can distribute printed copies only to close friends and family.

Can I include charitable donations in an obituary?

Yes! Many families choose to include information about memorial donations or charity contributions in lieu of flowers. This can be a meaningful way to honor the deceased and support a good cause.

How do I find old obituaries?

You can search online archives of newspapers or websites that specialize in genealogy research. Local libraries or historical societies may also have archives of old newspapers and records.

Can I reuse an existing obituary for another family member?

No! Each person deserves their own unique tribute. While you may draw inspiration from another obituary, it's essential to create an original piece that honors the individual being remembered.

What if I'm struggling to write an obituary?

DON'T WORRY! Funeral homes often have resources or staff available to assist with writing an obituary. You can also ask a friend or family member for help or seek guidance from online templates and examples.

How do I handle mistakes in an already-published obituary?

Contact the publication or website immediately to report any errors. They will work with you to correct the mistake as soon as possible.

Can I include quotes or lyrics in an obituary?

Absolutely! Quotes, lyrics, or poems can add depth and meaning to an obituary. Choose something that resonates with the person being honored or reflects their personality.

What if I want to include special memories or anecdotes in an obituary?

This is encouraged! Sharing personal stories and memories can make the obituary more engaging and help celebrate the person's life.

Can I use social media to share an obituary?

Yes! Social media platforms like Facebook and Twitter can be effective ways to share news of a loved one's passing and connect with others who are grieving.

How do I preserve an online obituary for future generations?

You can save a copy of the online obituary as a PDF or printout for your records. Additionally, consider creating a digital archive or scrapbook with other mementos and memorabilia.

Is it necessary to include funeral details in an obituary?

No! While funeral information can be included, it's not required. You may choose to focus solely on celebrating the person's life rather than sharing specific funeral arrangements.
