She ran a lucrative cleaning business for years, and she had quite a love for dogs and cats. She enjoyed going to the mountains and the beach and having bonfires with friends. Jeanette was born on November 14, 1951.  She is survived by her daughter Juanita Pattillo, stepdaughter Rena Brook, stepson Joseph Pattillo (Mary), brother Dean Berry (Connie); and numerous grand and great grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her parents Hershel Dean and Florence Hood Berry, husband Rex Pattillo and stepson John Pattillo.
Until her retirement in 2021, Jeanette was employed by LifeSouth Community Blood Center, in Opelika, where she was affectionately known as "Mrs. J".  She was loved by everyone who knew her.
A graveside service led by Pastor Bobby Carpenter will be held on Thursday, April 4, 2024, at 12:00 pm at Salem Macon Baptist Church in Notasulga, AL.

Beloved husband, father, and grandfather, he is survived by his wife Cathy, son Chase (Hilary) Seals, grandson Aimen Seals, and godfather Rear Admiral Harold “Rick” Grant. He was also adored by his fur babies Callie, Lulu, and Jacks. Mark was a member of the Notasulga Masonic Lodge #119.
Forever passionate about motorcycles, vintage racing brought him lifelong joy. He was a member of the 1994 USA ISDE team and raced in Tulsa, OK. As the years went by, he spent his days in his shop restoring bikes.
Mark was dearly loved by his community of family and friends. A memorial service in his honor will be held at his family home in Franklin, AL, on April 2, 2024, at 11:00 AM.

Obituary Preview: It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Jewel Diana Griggs, who left this world on March 24, 2024. She peacefully went to be with her Savior as she was surrounded with love from her family. Diana, better known as Diane, was a loving spouse, parent, grandparent, sibling, daughter and friend. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her, but her memory will forever live on in the hearts of those who loved her. Diana’s speech exhibited grace, encouragement and kindness to all. Her loyalty was unmatched to those she loved. Born on April 7, 1946, in Pontotoc, Mississippi to the late James and Jewel Loyd of Lake City, Florida. As a daughter of an aircraft sheet metal specialist in the ‘40s and ‘50s, she moved frequently and met her future husband, Bobby Eugene Griggs in 1962, while Bobby and Mr. Loyd worked at Hayes Aircraft in Dothan, Alabama. Diane graduated from Dale County High School and married the love of her life and had two children. She later started a career at the Alabama State Board of Missions in Montgomery, Alabama, where she retired after devoting 23 years. Diane lived a full and vibrant life and was known for her kindness, generosity, and genuine care for people around her. She had a passion for reading, sewing, watching baseball, and singing Gospel music with her husband. When she joined her husband in Okinawa, Japan they wore out the road to the library and would read five to six books a week. Once her grandchildren came along, she sewed and smocked many gowns and outfits. She touched the lives of so many with her warm spirit and gentle nature. Diane is survived by her loving family, Bobby, her devoted husband of almost 60 years; her children Sandra (Dallas) Vick and Robert (Tracie) Griggs, six grandchildren, Samantha Taylor, Jessica (Jay) Wainwright, James “Austin” Vick, Jackson Griggs, Tanner Griggs, and Lucy Brynn Griggs; seven great grandchildren, Kennedi Graham, Wesley Graham, Paisley Wainwright, Penelope “Nelly” Graham, James “Phillip” Wainwright III, Jace Taylor, and Charli Taylor; and sister, Susanne Jones of Dunnellon, Florida. She will forever be remembered for her unwavering love and devotion to her family. A visitation service will take place at Eastmont Baptist. Church in Montgomery on April 1st at 12:00 pm, followed by a memorial service at 1:00 pm.  The graveside service will be held at Salem Macon Baptist Church in Notasulga at 3:00 pm, officiated by Reverend Mike Stephens. Flowers will be accepted at Eastmont Baptist Church, or donations in honor of Diane may be made to First United Methodist Church Montgomery’s Respite Ministry.

Ricky is survived by his wife of 57 years Elaine Spratlin; his sons Richard Thomas Spratlin, III (Allison), and Kenneth Eldred Spratlin (Kim); his grandchildren Jessi Head (CJ), Kenneth Austin Spratlin (Taylor), Kimberly Lauren Booker (Colby), and Maggi Spratlin; his great grandchildren Kayley Head, Trey Head, Kevin Wyatt Spratlin; his siblings Carol Strickland, Linda McNair (Don) and Teresa Driggers; several nieces and nephews; and his golf cart buddy Dooley. Pallbearers will be Tom Mangum, Gene Cole, Everett Story, James Garrett, John Harper, and Jim Heartsill with Tommy Patterson as an honorary pallbearer.
Ricky was a member of the Little Texas Community Church and Tabernacle. He was a wonderful husband, daddy, and papa. He loved the outdoors and sharing his garden with everyone. His love of the outdoors led him to be a land manager for Wiregrass Construction for many years where he gained many lasting friendships. He was very proud of all his family and his children, and he passed his work ethic on to his sons. He was a very special man, and his passing has left a void in so many lives.

She is survived by her son Jerry (Tina) Bishop, daughter Jan (Mike) Pearson, granddaughter Erin Williams, great grandson Heath Craft, great granddaughter Mackenzie Craft, several cousins, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her mother Gladys Inez Reeves, her grandmother Henrietta Woodall, her grandfather Eugene Reeves, and her infant brother Paul.
Visitation will be Wednesday, March 27, 2024, from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm at First Baptist Church of Reeltown.
The funeral will be at 3:00 pm at First Baptist Church of Reeltown with Rev. Joe Richardson and Pastor Tim Smith officiating.
Burial will follow at Saugahatchee Assembly of God. The pallbearers will be Larry Rodgers, Tim Philips, Bill Maynard, Roger Reeves, Bo Lauderdale, and Andrew Wise. Also, incredibly special honorary pallbearers will be Rodger Brown and Ed Maynard

Mr. Akin is survived by his wife of 66 years Jeanette Casaday Akin; his daughter Donna Rivers of Reeltown; his son Chris Akin of Reeltown; his sister Joann Jarrett of Talladega; his granddaughters Ashley Huie Strong and Cassidy Hartley; and his great grandchildren Ava Hartley, Soren Strong, and Kenny Hartley. He was preceded in death by his father O.T. Akin, his mother Avis Nichol Akin, his mother Ina Akin, his son Keith Akin, and his sisters Hilda Young, and Betty Akin.
Mr. Akin served three years in the U.S. Marines. He then worked 30 years for Mount Vernon Mills in Tallassee. He also drove a school bus for Reeltown for 22 years and served as part of the chain gang during football games under coaches Duane Webster and Jackie O’Neal. His favorite hobby was to watch birds at bird feeders he built while sitting on his back porch. He loved to cut grass and walk outside. He also cut grass at First Baptist Church of Reeltown for over 20 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents James and Juanita Hogue of Lewisville, Ohio, and his sister Mary Alice Arnold of Marietta, Ohio.
Mr. Hogue is survived by his wife of 58 years Marjorie Hansen Hogue; his children Johanna “Joey” Hogue Courson (David) of Smiths Station, AL, and Christina “Christy” Nelson (Phillip) of Tallassee, AL; his grandchildren Caroline Walker (Trey) of Smiths Station, Catherine Courson of Smiths Station, Caleb Courson of Smiths Station, Faith Nelson of Tallassee, and Mason Nelson of Tallassee; his sister Marjory Fouss (Doug) of Sun City Center, FL; and several loved nieces and nephews. He was a member of Bradford’s Chapel Methodist Church.
After struggling with alcohol addiction for many years, Walter entered rehabilitation where he worked hard to achieve sobriety. He acknowledged that addiction was a daily struggle, and attended Alcoholics Anonymous for over 31 years.  He faithfully served as a sponsor for others with similar struggles.  He found new passion and purpose through serving his local AA chapter and supporting others in their journey of sobriety.  If Walter could give anyone words of advice, he would tell others it is never too late to change.
His pride and joy was his family. The family remembers his sense of humor and generosity. He enjoyed the outdoors and spent many hours fishing and camping with family. He had a strong work ethic and instilled that into others.  In his retirement years, he enjoyed reading his Bible on a daily basis.

He was preceded in death by his parents Lee and Vera Gates, his sister Martha Adams, and his brothers Charles Gates and Jimmy (Barbara) Gates.  Mr. Gates proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War as a Morse code interceptor. He was a huge Auburn fan. He served as an elder at Woodland Presbyterian Church. He spent his career in law enforcement in various capacities though mostly with the Alabama Department of Corrections.

He leaves his wife of 63 years Muriel Jean(ie) Earnest; three children and their families: Johnny Troy Turner (Richelle Webster), Jeanie Kaye Turner Huddleston (Todd), Earnest Kip Turner (Lisa Atkinson); 8 grandchildren: Nicki Huddleston Powell (Ryan), Courtney Jean Turner, Audrey Turner Cross (Philip James), Shane Turner (Morgan Hall), Katie Huddleston Mushunje (Brandon), Dr. William Turner Huddleston (Carly Banks), Dawn Louise Turner Jones (Ben), Frankie Gorden Turner; 14 great grands: Bronx, Brayken, Briggs, Brixie, Brogan Powell; Brody, Blakely, Lacy Cross; Jon Carter, Addie Ann Turner; Shona, Luke, Eli Mughunje; River Callaway Jones; and his sister Phyllis Pitchford (Graham). Johnny enjoyed his large family.
Johnny was born April 5, 1941, Dadeville, AL. He attended Union High School, Dadeville, where he enjoyed playing basketball, and did well. He was an Auburn University graduate and attended Auburn in Montgomery for his Masters.
He put Walnut Hill, Dadeville, on the map after purchasing property at junction 49/50 from Catherine Cosby Ponder who had faith in his entrepreneur spirit. He built Walnut Hill Gro. In its day it was a thriving community business known for its “Biscuits by Rochelle” (Greathouse); and its “lady pleasing, gas pumpkin” Otis. It was frequented by neighbors, travelers to and from Lake Martin, and even the governor on occasion stopped for a biscuit; children and “bussed road prisoners” were always treated with goodies.
When the new area maps were produced, Walnut Hill was included.
Johnny and Jeanie attended Beulah Baptist Church, Dadeville, where through the years, he served as a deacon and Sunday School teacher. In later years, he attended and also served as deacon at First Baptist Church, Columbia Falls, MT, where summers were enjoyed.
Johnny served his country 5 years in the Air Force.
Johnny enjoyed hunting, fishing, and in later years golf, often playing with golf pro-am team of West Glacier, MT.
He also enjoyed traveling, seeing all 50 states, mostly with family on vacation. He and Jeanie also took in most of Canada and were privileged to see Egypt and The Holy Land, Israel.
Johnny lived a full life and productive life. He knew his faults and appreciated God’s forgiveness and often witnessed boldly for the Lord. He had numerous health challenges that he claimed only made him stronger and ready to meet his Lord at the appointed time.
Funeral services will be at Beulah Baptist Church on Wednesday, February 28, 2024, at 11:00 A.M. with Rev. Tim Davis officiating. Visitation will be prior to the service beginning at 10:00 A.M. Pallbearers will be Turner Huddleston, Shane Turner, Frankie Turner, Ben Jones, Wade Turner, Philip James Cross, Chris Pitchford, Wayne Pitchford, Scottie Knox, Jody Knox, and Matt Sharp.

Howard Lee Griggs - February 29, 1944 - February 10, 2024

Obituary Preview: Howard Lee Griggs, a lifelong resident of Little Texas, Alabama, went to be the with Lord on February 10, 2024.  Howard was born on February 29, 1944, to parents Willie Lee and Willie Clyde Griggs.  Howard graduated from Tuskegee High School in 1962. After graduation he opened Howard Griggs Trucking, Inc. which he ran until retiring in 2008.
Howard enjoyed life to the fullest and had many friends.  He spent much time at the ball fields watching his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren play sports. He loved helping those less fortunate especially young children and the elderly people of his community. His greatest passion was drag racing. Howard was known to many as Willie-Get-It. He won awards on the drag strip from 1962-2017. On March 19, 2017, Howard received the Legend of the South Lifetime Achievement Award at the Phenix City Drag Strip.
Howard is preceded in death by his parents Willie Lee Griggs and Willie Clyde Griggs and a brother Jimmy Donald Griggs.  His survivors include his loving wife Judie W. Griggs; brothers Gene Griggs (Alice), Monroe Griggs; sisters-in-law Annette Holliday, Carol Scott (Ernie); daughter Jane Adams (Hal); sons Terry Lee Griggs (Mary Beth), Buck Noble (Beth), and Philip Noble (Michele); grandchildren Ashley Powell (Josh), Emily Pruitt (Jason), Tripp Adams, Samantha Lewis (Tyler), Anna Schell (Matt), Abby Cannon (Zach), Lilly Noble, Cole Noble (Maggie), Josie Noble, Katelyn Harris (Tyler); great grandchildren Sawyer and Barrett Powell, Ansley and Landon Pruitt, Parker and Brooks Schell, Will and Aneyli Lewis, Ridge Cannon, and Holden and Hattie Harris.  Howard is also survived by a family of close, loving friends who will feel his loss terribly.
Visitation for Howard will be Wednesday, February 14, 2024, at The Little Texas Tabernacle from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm. Funeral services will immediately follow at 2:00 pm. Pallbearers will be Randy Adair, Daryl Guess, Billy Tally, Buz Yarbrough, Johnny Ezell, Brian Allen, Michael Cardwell, Wesley Capps, and Earl Brown. Obituary Preview: Sylvia C. Miller passed away February 1, 2024 at E.A.M.C.  Graveside service will be Monday 5, 2024 @ 2:00 P.M. Central time, at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Notasulga. Sylvia enjoyed her family, gardening, sitting on her front porch on sunny days, and watching her favorite cooking shows. Sylvia was married to her childhood sweetheart Kenneth Miller for 45 yrs. Sylvia spent most of her life caring and taking care of her husband, children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.  Sylvia had a close relationship with her son David who was always there for her day or night and if David called to check in on her, Sylvia would answer because she knew he would come running! Sylvia and her daughter Miranda were very close and would talk on a daily basis about cooking, gardening or kids, and make plans for summer and what they would do. Every Holiday or special occasion Sylvia would request a red velvet cake, peach cobbler, or pecan pie, and Miranda would make sure she had what her mom requested! Every Mothers day Miranda would bring her yellow roses, which were her favorite flower to plant in her garden.  Sylvia had a special relationship with her granddaughter Alyssa (Mickey) who she raised from a small child. Alyssa cared for Sylvia  for many years, good times and bad, making sure daily Sylvia never wanted or needed anything.  Sylvia also shared a special bond with her great granddaughter Ana.  Ana was her moon stars and everything in between. When you talk to Sylvia she would talk about Ana with pride. Sylvia would gloat on how smart and bright Ana was and that she made straight A's in school. Sylvia was always taking time from the day to show Ana her love. Sylvia would spend time with her daughter Barbara and talk about old times and remembrance of childhood days. Barbara also helped care for her mother making sure Sylvia had everything she needed and lots of love. Barbara and Sylvia shared a special love and relationship with Sylvia's mother Jeannie W. Kittrell who is greatly missed. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Kenneth W. Miller, One Brother Billy W. Kittrell, One sister, Shirley Wilson, a special friend and caregiver Augustus Motley. Survivors are; her three daughter, Miranda (Randy) Langford, Barbara Grant, Tammie (Wayne) Bentley; One Son David Miller; 7 grand children, Alyssa (Bruce) Childress, Brandy (Toby) Reaves, Michael (Tiffany) Davis, Charlie Davis, Cheyenne Allred, David Saylor, Kendria Macon; 10 Great grandchildren, Ana Childress, Sinjin Reaves, Haley Reaves, Kane Reaves, Caleb Davis, Michael Davis Jr., Scarlett Davis, Jacob Webster, Austin Miller, Nathan Butler, Aiana Macon; One Sister Annette (Lee) Mann; and Numerous other family members.

Mr. Fomby is survived by his wife of 40 years Wendy Fomby; his children Josh Fomby, Brandon (Loren) Fomby, Audrey (Jordan) Moran, Sarah (Zach) Foley, and Johnathon (Amy) Creamer; his grandchildren Sadie Grace, Kylee Moran, Mary Hanlyn, Mavie Kay, and Maggie Ruth Fomby, and JJ and Christopher Creamer; his mother Kay Massey; his father Kenny Fomby; his brothers Mark (Donna) Fomby and David Massey; his mother-in-law Becky Carlisle; and his father-in-law James W. Carlisle. He was preceded in death by his step father James Massey; his grandparents Marry Ellen and Lehman Fomby, Frances Wadsworth, and JD Peters; his brother Michael Massey; his sister Linda Massey; his granddaughter Ann Creamer; and his brother-in-law James Wendell Carlisle, Jr.
Chris was loved by all his family and was known as “Pops” to all of his grandchildren. He loved his whole family, and he loved to work. He also loved his place on Hatchet Creek where he had spent the last several years building their next home. He always put his family first, but he was a father figure to many young men in the community.

She was preceded in death by her parents Ransom Clark and Minnie Lee Coan Ruff, her husband Elder Douglas Cannon, her daughters Virginia Cannon and Dianette Butler, and her daughter-in-law Diana Cannon. She was a devoted member of Elam Baptist Church where she spent much time working in the nursery. She was a loving and caring mother and grandmother. She was also an extremely hard worker throughout her life being involved in several family businesses. She loved working in her garden and her yard especially with her flowers and plants. She also enjoyed playing rook and dominos.

Funeral services will be Monday, January 22, 2024, at Carrville Baptist Church at 2:00 pm with Rev. Tim Davis offficiating. Burial will follow in Carrville Cemetery. Visitation will be at the church prior to the service beginning at 12:00 pm. Mr. Hill is survived by his son Josh (Melissa) Hill and his grandson Seth Hill. He was preceded in death by his sister Cathy Traywick, and his parents Howard and Martha Hill. Jimmy worked for over 30 years at the Tallassee Post Office as a clerk and carrier. After he retired from the post office, he went to work at Bass Pro Shops in Prattville for several years where he became their first employee of the year. Jimmy was an avid fisherman, but he was also a great athlete. He played college basketball at ACJC, and he was well-known as a great softball and tennis player. There is no telling how many kids he coached and mentored in Dixie Youth Baseball in Tallassee over the years with great memories of those times. Jimmy never met a stranger and seemed to be loved by everyone that knew him. He was a wonderful Father, grandfather and friend.

Linda worked at Tallassee Tribune where she typed the paper from many years. She then moved to Sikorsky where she worked her way up to become the executive assistant.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers and sisters: Bud, Rooster, Mary Emma, John, William, Pat, Betty, PeeWee, Lois, and Kathy. Linda was the baby of the family. She is survived by her daughter Julie (Butch) and Jenny (Shey); her granddaughter Jenna (Chase); her great granddaughter Jayne Rae; her dog Rusty; and many nieces and nephews that she loved dearly. A celebration of life will be held at 2:00 pm at First Baptist Church of Reeltown on Monday, January 8, 2024. Visitation was Sunday, January 7, 2024, at First Baptist Church of Reeltown from 3:00 to 5:00 pm.

He was generous without hesitation.  An avid sports fan, especially enjoying his Auburn Tigers. Memorials may be made to Pleasant Springs Baptist Church. She was blessed with four grandchildren: Joni (Steven) Soltau of Auburn, Alabama, Dusty (Amanda) Weldon of Phenix City, Alabama, Drake Morris of Hamilton, Alabama, and Kinley Copen of Thorsby, Alabama. She also leaves behind four great grandchildren: Parker Smith, Kenadie Smith, Kennedy Soltau, and Sutton Soltau, all of Auburn, and many nephews and nieces.
Services will be held on Thursday, December 28, 2023, at Notasulga First Baptist Church beginning with visitation at 10:00 am, service at 11:00 am, immediately followed by interment at Memory Gardens in Notasulga. Andy Chamness will be officiating the services.
Serving as pallbearers will be her nephews Kim Peters (Tallassee) and Klay Peters (Tallassee), grandsons Dusty Weldon (Phenix City) and Drake Morris (Hamilton), and great grandson Parker Smith (Auburn).
