Obituary Preview: Tannette Turpin, age 71, of Cassopolis, died peacefully Monday morning, October 19, 2020 surrounded by her loving family. Her life began April 8, 1949 in Gary, Indiana, to the union of Floyd, Sr., and Jean “Jeano” Foston.

Tannette accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior as a child and then rededicated her life to him in her adult years. Her favorite Scripture was Psalm 23 and her favorite song was “Precious Lord.” She was a kind soul who loved everyone and didn’t have a problem telling someone if she didn’t. She loved going to sporting events especially to watch her grandchildren play and watching her brother coach. Tannette enjoyed traveling and going to the casino and bingo. She would give the shirt off her back and help anyone in need. Tannette had many names, “Momma T,” “Nettie,” “Gramma Tannette,” “Auntie,” “Tanny Gal,” “Slaw,” and “Dude.” Her brother and sister had a very close, loving relationship with her and were able to share anything with her. Tannette and her siblings honored their mother’s request that they would never let anything come between them, but would always love each other and stay close. She has encouraged her children to do the same. She was loved by all.

Tannette will be greatly missed by family and friends. She leaves to mourn her passing and to continue her legacy her eleven children, Darris Foston, Monnette (Tyrone Pompey) Neal, Elmorece Neal, Tammy Turpin, Tanya Turpin, Yvette (Derrick) Bramley, Carmen Turpin, Calvin (Sharrin) Turpin, Jeano (Kyle Solloway) Turpin, Vernell Wilson, Brandy Wilson; thirty-one grandchildren; forty-six great grandchildren with two one the way; two sisters, Doris Irby, Alice Washington; one brother, Floyd (Jacqueline) Foston, Jr; several nieces and nephews; step-mother, Michele Foston; and her close friends, Jane Smith and Nora Lee. She was preceded in death by her parents; the love of her life, Norman V. Wilson, Sr.; one grandson, Jamal Turpin; and one brother, Julian “JuJu” Foston.

Family and friends will gather Thursday, October 29, 2020 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. in Connelly Chapel Wagner Family Funerals, 202 North Broadway Street, Cassopolis. Funeral services will be Friday, October 30, 2020 at 1:00 p.m. in the funeral home with visitation beginning one hour before. Tannette will be laid to rest in Reames and Norton Cemetery in Cassopolis.

He loved watching movies and television. DeWayne was always spending time with his grandchildren. He spent time taking them fishing and teaching them about cars. He could also be found gardening. He was a kind hearted man and would do anything he could for anyone.

Obituary Preview: Lori Jean Strome Lee, age 57, of Edwardsburg, died in her home Friday, October 2, 2020, on the anniversary of her first born son’s birth and passing. What a great moment for her waking up in heaven on his thirty-eighth birthday!

Her life began March 27, 1963 in Dowagiac, Michigan, the oldest of four daughters born to Raymond and Donna Strome. She graduated from Ross Beatty High School in Cassopolis in 1982 and lived in this area all of her life.

As the oldest of four girls, Lori looked out for her sisters and father, especially after her mother died. She loved her daughter and son and was devoted to her granddaughters. Lori enjoyed the weekly sleep overs and the daily telephone calls with her “luvbugs.” She lovingly crocheted multiple baby blankets and hats and enjoyed cooking. Family meant everything to her and she enjoyed family gatherings and events. Lori was a good and loyal friend who was always available to anyone who needed her. She loved capturing pictures of family and friends. Lori was an active member of Union Baptist Church. She was excited about her relationship with God and sharing her faith. Lori loved her trips to Georgia and the beach with her best friend, Jennifer Parsons. She said her bucket list was complete after a visit to the ocean.

Lori will be greatly missed by family and friends. She is survived by her daughter, Erica Lee of Niles; her son, Justin (Chyvon) Lee of Cassopolis; three granddaughters, Emma Jean Lee, Natalie Lee, Alivia Lee; her father, Raymond Strome of Cassopolis; three sisters, Jennifer (Doug) Diltz of Cassopolis, Mary (Gary) Wright of Vandalia, Tara (Kevin) Baker of Dowagiac; a host of nieces and nephews; and best friend, Jennifer (Doyle) Shelton Parsons of Decatur and her family. She was preceded in death by one son, Jeffery Dale Lee, Jr and her mother, Donna Strome.

Roy was born February 12, 1945 in Caruthersville, Missouri to B.W. and Helen Boswell. He married Laverne Shepherd September 24, 1971 in Benton Harbor.

Barney cherished spending as much time as he could with his family. He watched the Price is Right faithfully and could guess winning numbers almost every time. He also loved watching westerns. He enjoyed sitting on his deck with his tomato plants. Roy loved his rescue dogs Buddy and Max. He proudly served in the United States Marine Corps as a Private, and was in Vietnam.

Roy will be greatly missed by family and friends. (Toni) Graves, both of Edwardsburg, Bradley N. (Damie) Medford of Streamwood, Illinois; her mother, Audrey M. Obituary Preview: Charles Edward Thomas, age 72, of Cassopolis, departed this life peacefully, Friday afternoon, September 25, 2020. He was born August 15, 1948 in Attala County, Mississippi, the second child of the late Wardelia Thomas and John Garland. He became a member of Mt. Moriah Missionary Baptist Church at an early age and was educated in the Holmes County Public School System. As an adult, Charles enlisted in the United States Army where he served honorably. He always worked various jobs and traveled to provide for his family. Once he retired, his favorite pastime became talking on the phone, watching the weather while playing on his tablet.

Charles was united in holy matrimony to Ethel Tucker. To this union two children were born, Burnell O’Neal and Edward Tyrone Thomas. Later, he and Flora Day had three additional children: Charles, Latonya, and Latoya Day.

When his health failed in 2016, he moved to Cassopolis, Michigan where he lived with his sister, Geraldine Gatson, who cared for him until he transitioned from this earth.

Charles will be greatly missed by family and friends. He leaves to mourn his passing and treasure his memory three sisters: Geraldine Gatson, Melba (Lee Earl) Wade, and Debra Ann Mabry; one brother: Clarence (Renetta) Thomas; four children: Burnell Thomas, Charles Day, Latonya Day, Latoya Day; five grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives & friends.

Obituary Preview: Alan Palmer, age 72, of New Buffalo, died peacefully Friday, September 25, 2020 in the comfort of his family’s presence.

He was born August 27, 1948 in Virginia to Kermit Sr. and Madeline Mullins. He is survived by the love of his life, William ‘Bill’ Lindblom, who he met in 1998 and married July 22, 2015 in St. Joseph.

Alan cherished his family and the time he spent with them, especially his “grandchildren”, who called him “Grampuncle”, with whom every moment was full of adventure, laughter and boundless love. His greatest loves were his three little puppies, Scooter, Rufus and MayMay, whom he credited with making him a better human being. He had a way with people and made them feel like they were the most important person in the room. He had a larger than life personality that brought joy and humor to everyone and everything he encountered. Alan, a nurturer by nature, was a pillar of the AA community, influencing and inspiring countless lives.

He lived in many places including: Chicago, New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Santa Fe, Palatka and Delray Beach, Florida, Spain and Mexico City. In these various places, Alan engaged in a variety of professions such as: an art gallery manager, owner, and curator, actor, acting coach, Broadway producer, video producer, script analyst, furniture and antiques dealer and designer. He served on the board of the Lubeznik Center for the Arts as a champion for children’s art education. Here in Harbor Country, he was best known as the owner of Charm Cottage.

He found great pleasure and peace walking the Michigan lakeshore searching for crinoids and sea glass. He felt the same way about the buying, selling and trading of most everything. His instinctual appreciation for art and design were refined at the School of The Art Institute of Chicago.

Alan will be greatly missed by all who knew him. He is survived by his loving husband Bill of New Buffalo; and family members Tracy (Josh Silverman) Fisher Silverman, Julie (Jason Rosenthal) Fisher, Fisher (Alexis Bloom) Stevens, Bob Nienhouse: six “grandchildren”, Max, Miles, Parker, Meyer, Otis and Paloma; two sisters, Jo and Sadie; brothers, Michael, Randall, Rod and Jeff; and nieces and nephews including, Carlton, Catherine (Nick Lindsey), David Alan, John Michael, and Sammie. He was preceded in death by his parents.

His life began July 28, 1956 in Niles, Michigan, the youngest of nine children born to Guylor and Ruth Haines of Vandalia. He married Brenda O’Dell in Calvin Township, Michigan. He later married Sheryl Illene MacNeal in Calvin Township, Michigan. She preceded him in death in 2013.

Harland served honorably in the U.S. Army. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Vandalia. Harland could be trying, but his family loved him. He was very active with his family, especially his grandchildren and was present at all their sporting events and other activities. Harland was passionate about hunting and fishing and riding his Honda Gold Wing. He enjoyed his landscaping job and tinkering with lawn mowers and other small engines. Harland had a great sense of humor and wanted others to enjoy themselves. Anyone who ever encountered him left with a smile on their face and a story to be told.

Harland will be greatly missed by family and friends. He is survived by two daughters, Kimberly Haines of Portage, Indiana, Kristi Harris of Elkhart, Indiana; two sons, Harland D. Haines II, of Portage, Michigan, Shaun MacNeal of Elkhart, Indiana; eight grandchildren, Malik Haines, Rashaun Smith, Arianna Wetzel, Austin Wetzel, Aiden Wetzel, Desiree Smith, Keyon MacNeal, Hailey Haines; the first great grandchild, a boy, on the way; three sisters, Mary Bradley of Vandalia, Michigan, Goldie King of Vandalia, Michigan, Adeline Walker of Elkhart, Indiana; last surviving aunt, Lorna Mourning of Cassopolis, Michigan; his companion of many years, Kathy Bosler; and a host of nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Gloria Lane, Alma Robinson; three brothers, Guylor Haines, John Haines, and Eugene Haines.

Family and friends will gather at for a service at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, September 26, 2020 on the grounds of First Baptist Church, 17747 South Street, Vandalia, Michigan with the Reverend Michael Anderson officiating. Full Military Honors will be accorded Mr. Haines at 2:30 p.m. Saturday by active members of the US Army and the Honor Guard of the Lt. William E. Lozier VFW Post 10704 of Cassopolis.

After that she moved to Elkhart, Indiana to be closer to family and friends where she lived the rest of her days.

Richard is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Linda L. Wright of Cassopolis; one daughter, Julie (Dan Ianello) of Edwardsburg; two sons, Richard (Kristi) Wright of Asheville, North Carolina and Chris (Kristy) Wright of Niles; twelve grandchildren: Daniel, Allison, Katie, Zoe, Trenton, Adam, Trevor, Annslee, Noah (Gabrielle) Wright of Granger, Indiana, Eva, Lucas and Jordan; three brothers, Max (Kathy) Wright, Charles (Lori) Wright, and Kevin (Becky) Wright all of Cassopolis; one uncle, Howard Wright of Dowagiac; one sister-in-law, Sandra Wright of Vandalia; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins. Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Charles, Laura Jean, and Margaret; and one brother, Robert Wright.

Richard has played a huge part in the Cassopolis Community over the many years. He was a farmer in his younger days, an active and devoted member and elder at Penn Friends Community Church, a postal carrier for 33 years, a Cass County Courthouse officer for 18 years, and a volunteer fire fighter for Penn Township for over 40 years. While keeping busy in the community Richard also enjoyed hunting, fishing, riding his Harley motorcycle with fellow club members and spending time with his family. Throughout his life, Richard displayed kindness, love, and an unwavering devotion to God. “Well done, thou good and faithful servant… enter thou into the Joy of thy Lord.” Matthew 25:21

He was born April 18, 1970 in Buchannan, Michigan, the son of Frederick and Stephanie (Kaufman) Price. Darin was a 1988 River Valley High School graduate and played basketball, football and was an All-State athlete in baseball. He attended KVCC and was awarded the Academic Athlete Award. Darin went on to receive his Master’s in Education from Western Michigan University.

For the last 25 years he was a beloved teacher at Otsego Middle School. Darin loved his students and enjoyed coaching girls’ and boys’ basketball and boys’ baseball. The joy of Darin’s life was his daughter Kennedy who he loved spending time with.

Surviving along with his daughter are his mother, Stephanie (Paul) Zdanis of Three Oaks, brothers, Gregory (Laurie) Price of Bridgman and Jeffrey Price of Indiana; twin sister, Deana (Donald) Bowman of Kalamazoo along with several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Fred in 1986 and by his grandparents.

Darin will be missed by his family and by his many friends.

Cremation has taken place.

A drive by visitation will be held from 12 noon to 4PM, Saturday, August 29, 2020 at Bulldog Stadium in Otsego.

Burial of ashes will take place at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Three Oaks at a later time.

Her life began September 15, 1936 in Toledo, Ohio the youngest of four children of Harold and Orta Brown. She married Jacob Elard “Al” Horter December 21, 1969 in South Bend, Indiana. After more than twenty-three years of marriage, he preceded her in death in 1994.

Beverly was the strongest woman her daughter’s had ever known. She was their heroine. Beverly was an amazing Grandma, helping to raise all of her grandchildren with love and “that look.” She was steadfast in and drew strength from her faith. Beverly made everyone she met feel like the most important person ever. She liked “her strays,” human and animal. Beverly was her family’s North star, stubborn and beautiful.

Beverly will be greatly missed by family and friends. Her life began July 2, 1932 in Niles, Michigan, the third of four children born to Ormond and Violet Barcus, Sr. She married Richard Hubert Rettic April 30, 1950 in South Bend, Indiana. After more than sixty-four years of marriage, he preceded her in death in 2014.

Prior to retirement, June was Chairman of the American Cancer Society chapter in Saint Joseph County, Indiana. She managed the Torrington Credit Union in South Bend, Indiana and later was Vice President of the Notre Dame Credit Union. June enjoyed spending time with her husband, children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren at their summer home on Diamond Lake and their winter home in Titusville, Florida.

June will be greatly missed by family and friends. Patricia did many things. She worked on the family farm with her husband, children, and grandchildren. She was organist and pianist at Diamond View Missionary Church for many years. She taught cake decorating and ceramics to 4H kids. She was also a talented clarinet player. She worked as a teller at a bank in Cassopolis. She was a cashier at Buy Low in Cassopolis and Farmtown in Dowagiac. Patricia also spent some time as a receptionist for Dr. Brancleon in Cassopolis. She enjoyed gardening especially her tomato plants and flowers. She cherished her family and was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother.

Patricia will be greatly missed by family and friends. She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Joseph Young of Vandalia; one daughter, Patti Jo Clymer of Niles; one son, Joey (Tina) Young, Jr. of Vandalia; seven grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren; one brother, Terry Fosdick of Michigan; and a host of nieces and nephews.

The family will observe a private remembrance.

Patricia will be laid to rest in Birch Lake Cemetery.
