Alfred Leon Broady - November 16, 1931 - May 06, 2024

Departed: 05/06/2024 (Guthrie)
Obituary Preview: Alfred Leon Broady was born on November 16, 1931 in Blue Earth, MN to Lloyd and Elsie Broady. Alfred had one older sister, Lois, and then a younger sister, Lila and finally his brother, Kenneth. Alfred professed his choice to follow Jesus at Menomonie, WI convention when he was 16 years old. He offered for the work when he was 18, but was drafted into the Army during the Korean war where he was an ambulance driver in combat from 1952-1954. He found others that had shared faith and they had little meetings in the back of his ambulance almost every Sunday. When he returned from his service at 22 years of age, he entered the ministry with Harry Johnson as his first coworker in Southern Minnesota. Alfred spent 1954-2015 in the ministry, traveling around the north central US: Minnesota (1954-1958), North Dakota (1958-1980), Wisconsin (1980-1995), Kansas/Nebraska (1995-2011), Minnesota (2011-2014). In 2015, Alfred began to show signs of dementia and also was experiencing trouble with his feet and ankles, so he retired to Redbud Canyon in Guthrie, Oklahoma where he spent the next 9 years. At Redbud Canyon, he loved visitors, musical sessions by the piano on all sorts of instruments, hunting gophers, writing poetry, and walking the trails. Alfred is survived by Ken (MN) and Lila (AZ).

Frequently Asked Questions

What is an obituary?

An obituary is a written notice that announces the death of a person, typically including their name, age, date of birth and death, and a brief biography. It may also include information about their surviving family members, funeral arrangements, and any charitable organizations or causes they supported.

Why are obituaries important?

Obituaries serve as a way to inform friends, family, and community members of a person's passing, allowing them to pay their respects and offer condolences. They also provide a permanent record of a person's life and legacy, which can be cherished by loved ones for generations to come.

Who typically writes an obituary?

In most cases, the family of the deceased or a close friend writes the obituary. Funeral homes or mortuaries may also assist with writing and publishing the obituary.

What information should be included in an obituary?

A typical obituary includes the person's full name, age, date of birth and death, place of residence, occupation, education, military service, hobbies, and surviving family members. It may also include information about funeral services, memorials, or charitable donations.

How long should an obituary be?

The length of an obituary can vary depending on the publication and the family's preferences. Typically, it ranges from 100 to 500 words.

Can I include photos in an obituary?

Yes, many publications allow you to include one or more photos with the obituary. This can be a meaningful way to personalize the tribute and help readers remember the person who has passed away.

How do I submit an obituary to a newspaper or online publication?

Contact the publication directly to find out their submission guidelines and deadlines. Some publications may have online forms or email addresses where you can submit the obituary.

How much does it cost to publish an obituary?

The cost varies depending on the publication and the length of the obituary. Some newspapers offer free or discounted rates for obituaries, while others may charge by the word or line.

Can I write my own obituary in advance?

Yes, some people choose to write their own obituary as a way to reflect on their life and legacy. This can be a therapeutic exercise and ensure that your story is told in your own words.

What is the difference between an obituary and a death notice?

A death notice is a brief announcement of a person's passing, usually including only basic information such as name, age, and date of death. An obituary is a longer, more detailed tribute that provides a fuller picture of the person's life.

Yes! Quotes, lyrics, or poems can add depth and meaning to an obituary. Choose something that resonates with the person's personality or values.

How do I proofread an obituary for errors?
