Vincent Andrew Brough - October 23, 1960 - February 27, 2024

Departed: 02/27/2024 (South Wales)
Obituary Preview: South Wales, NY - Vincent Andrew Brough was surrounded by his loving family when he passed from this world on February 27th. His life was cut short after cancer spread through him in a rapid progression. He was 63 years old. Vince was born in Stoke-on-Trent in West Staffordshire, England on October 23, 1960. He was a son of the late John and Jean (Bradbeer) Brough. Vince emigrated to the states with his family as a young boy and they settled in the West Falls hamlet of the town of Aurora, NY. He attended school there and was a graduate of East Aurora High School with the class of 1978. Vincent was a proud veteran. Soon after school he enlisted in the U.S. Navy, serving aboard the USS Hermitage from 1979 – 1983. While on active duty, Vince earned several awards, medals and ribbons for his honorable service aboard the vessel during the conflict in Lebanon. His work in the Navy honed a talent for machinery which led to a career as a CNC Machinist in parts production and the plastics molding industry. On July 25, 1981, he married Gretchen Weeks, the girl next door, and they spent the following 42 years together enjoying a life filled with love, family and music. Settling close to where they grew up, the couple raised their two beautiful daughters in Western NY. They later built a home that would accommodate four generations of their family, taking care of each other. He enjoyed camping with the utility trailer he adapted for use as an RV. They also loved vacationing at the cottage on Keuka Lake that Vince’s father and second mom, Rita owned. Vincent was an extremely talented musician and with his music he enjoyed being a performer. He was the lead singer and guitarist with several bands over the years. People would go to area taverns, pubs and gathering places to hear him sing, and dance to his music with bands such as Midnight Run, Liquid Courage, Chameleon, Whiplash, Bad Little Doggie, Mudslingers, Old Iron Blues, Krossfire and most recently with Krossbones. Vince’s legacy will not soon be forgotten. His loss will be mourned by all who knew him, especially by the family with whom he made his home in South Wales: his beloved wife and soul mate Gretchen, his second mother Rita (Horschel) Brough, daughter Heather and her daughter Bailey Ranahan. He also leaves his daughter Andrea, her husband Mathew Cox and their daughter Andaline, all of Colorado; brother Anthony and his wife Linda (Mayle) Brough of Akron, his niece Amanda (Alex) Ames, nephews Eric Mayle and Matthew Brough; mother-in-law Barbara Weeks; a host of Weeks family members, Horschel family members, Brough and Bradbeer family in England, musician friends, fans, and followers. It was hoped that Vince would be present in body, but now only in spirit for the benefit for his family on Sunday, March 24th from 12 – 6 PM, to be followed by a Celebration of Life with Military Honors at 6:30 PM at the American Legion, 365 Center St. East Aurora, NY. A portion of the proceeds from the benefit will be used to establish a Music Scholarship in Vincent's name. Vince’s family members are filled with heartfelt gratitude to all the people, including friends, family, work colleagues, and strangers alike who have supported and continue to support him and his family through this very difficult time. Your generosity will never be forgotten. For online condolences, memorials, and remembrances, please visit www.comfortfuneralhome.com www.auroramccarthyfuneralhome.com

Shirley A. Donnelly - September 20, 1928 - December 31, 2023

Departed: 12/31/2023 (South Wales)
Obituary Preview: Shirley A. Donnelly December 31, 2023
Shirley was born on September 20th, 1928, on her parents’ farm on Bullis Road in Elma, NY. She attended a one-room schoolhouse where she received her first job in eighth grade as the school janitor. Shirley then moved onto the high school on Main Street in East Aurora and graduated in 1946. Before graduation, she was recommended by her principal, Mr. Barber, to begin employment at the East Aurora Advertiser. Shirley thoroughly enjoyed working at the Advertiser for Al and Sig Spooner for almost a decade. She recalled waiting on Mr. Fisher and Mr. Price when they would come into the Advertiser to place ads for toys.
Shirley married WWII veteran, Howard Donnelly when she was eighteen. The couple had two daughters, Lori and Leesa. While raising her girls in Wales Center, she worked at the sales party business of selling Stanley Home Products and Sarah Coventry Jewelry. In 1973 Shirley earned her real estate license and embarked on a career that would be her passion until she retired at age 90.
Shirley worked for five agencies in the WNY area and helped hundreds of customers purchase their first and last homes. She thoroughly enjoyed helping her many clients (who became her lifelong friends) hunt for and “seal the deal” on their perfect home. Shirley’s tireless work ethic was a character trait that she was well known for. Shirley received numerous awards for her real estate sales numbers. In 2013, she earned the Emeriti Award from the National Association of Realtors, recognizing her 40 years of service.
Shirley’s hobbies included collecting antiques, especially vehicles. She relished them all but had a special 1931 Ford pick-up truck that she enjoyed displaying in local car shows and driving in parades while she donned her big picture hat.
Shirley enjoyed animals of all kinds and instilled that love in her children by raising any stray animal that came to her doorstep. She also loved children and enjoyed fussing over them.
Shirley was small in stature but mighty in many ways. When thinking of adjectives to describe Shirley, the word FIESTY was the first thing that came to mind by all her family members. Her warmth, smile, and zest for life will be dearly missed by all who knew her. Shirley “never met a stranger” and loved to greet people wherever she went.
Shirley is survived by her daughters Lori (late Michael) Yuzwak and Leesa (William “Trey”) Braun. She was the dear grandmother to Melissa (George) Martin, Mara Yuzwak, William Braun IV, and Shelby (Michael) Reynolds, and adoring great-grandmother to Grant Martin, William Braun V, and Howard Reynolds. She is also survived by several cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Shirley is predeceased by her parents Wallace and Gladys Mau, brother Clayton Becker, fiancé Larry Schultz who was the love of her life for twenty-six years, and son-in-law Michael Yuzwak.
Services will be held on Saturday, January 6,  at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 2131 Woodward Road, Elma. There will be a viewing from 10:30 AM to 11:30 AM with a service immediately following.
