Selah Faulkner - April 06, 2008 - April 18, 2024

Departed: 04/18/2024 (Cayce)
Obituary Preview: Selah had an extraordinary spirit of love and was a profound member of our family. She blessed us with her unconditional love and friendship for 16 wonderful years! Selah was a constant in our family activities, trips, and daily lives. She was always smiling, always playing, and always quick to lick away any tears when we were hurting. Selah loved to cuddle, play games, and find snacks. Most of all, Selah always wanted to be so close to those she loved. She would always wait patiently by the door whenever we would leave the house, ready to greet us with excitement every time we returned. She was just so full of love and always happy to give it! We are so deeply thankful that God allowed us to be her family during her long and very happy life! Selah was a sister, a daughter, and a best friend. She was our adorable little bear cub, the sweetest girl who has ever been, and our baby before we had any. We believe we will snuggle her like a baby and boop her nose again one day, but until then we are sure she is happy and pain free- and giving Jesus all her love and kisses!

Bella Boo Caban - January 01, 2000 - April 06, 2024

Departed: 04/06/2024 (Cayce)
Obituary Preview: Bella Boo Bella Boo of the white dog crew. 2011-2024
Bella is preceded in death by her first sister Tora Jean. She leaves behind two cats, Willow and Mercy; and two dog sisters Bowie and Jessi. Though she leaves behind an abundance of humans who love her, she had three favorites; her daddy Adam, little girl Veda, and her Grampy. Bella came to us as "Sparkle" through rescue as she was pulled by BaRCSE from the shelter early 2012. She was placed in our foster home where with the grayest eyes that turned into honey brown she won over her daddy's heart and of course never left. She joined our Tora at the time. Known fondly as our gruesome twosome they were sisters from the start keeping each others on their toes. They participated in St. Pat's and Christmas parades in Columbia, babysat a few hounds, and went to rescue events as ambasset-dors. Her favorite past times included basking in the sun, killing the squeaker of toys, sneaking food she wasn't suppose to eat, acting as a referee of her sisters play, and trips to Grandma's house.
People will say of course dogs were the best boy or best girl, but Bella really was. She never gave us major trouble and could only be guilty of demanding pets and love from all of us. She became her daddy's first basset of his own and leaves a lasting impression that will not be matched for him. Bella Boo girl, we love you and there will not be enough words to express that. We find our own comfort in that you will no longer have pain, can breath easy, rest, and be free to cross over the bridge surrounded by love. We are certain you'll be met with the biggest welcome and re-united with your first sister, and four paw family that came throughout your years.
Thank you for allowing us to share your light for the 12 years we were blessed with you being with us.

Henry Wells - January 01, 2020 - March 22, 2024

Departed: 03/22/2024 (Cayce)
Obituary Preview: Henry, beloved feline friend, of the Wells and Heathcote families, crossed the Rainbow Bridge, Friday, March 22, 2024.
Henry came into our lives because he was an extremely friendly, outgoing, loving cat and he continued to be so throughout his life. He was happiest chasing strings, snuggling up on the couch, and stealing yogurt off the kitchen table while no one was looking. He was quite the social butterfly, becoming good friends with everybody in the neighborhood everywhere he lived, and even making himself at home in neighbor’s houses, who welcomed him gladly. He always happily came home at the end of every day. Even though he had a cat door and was welcome to come and go as he pleased, he could often be found relaxing near the front door and excitedly welcoming us home and accompanying us through the front door at the end of the day.
He was a wonderful, loving, friendly, playful cat who lived a great life and we are lucky to have considered him part of our family.
Have a great time hunting birds and chasing strings and exploring up there with your brother Luke in kitty heaven, Henry. We love and miss you.

Mitzy Fulwood - January 01, 2000 - March 21, 2024

Departed: 03/21/2024 (Cayce)
Obituary Preview: Chelsea, beloved Toy Poodle, of the Fulwood Family, crossed the Rainbow Bridge, Thursday, March 25, 2024. She will be missed always. Mit, was such a joy to have in our lives, and brought many laughs along the way. From her constant critter findings, chicken chasing, 4wheeler riding, and golf ball fetching. Boy she loved to help in the flower beds, and gardens. She thoroughly enjoyed going to the flower festival every year!
She had been sick for a while, but proved a lot of people wrong. She was a fighter and lived years beyond what we originally thought was her inevitable end. Small but mighty: She loved keeping the big girls in check.
We'll forever miss her. Knowing she is whole again, and no longer in pain or struggling gives me the most solace. I know your sister greeted you with open arms at the Rainbow Bridge.
I can't thank my mom, Ashley and dad, enough for being their for me while Jordan was out of town.

Yogi Bear Anderson-Truett - March 22, 2020 - March 07, 2024

Departed: 03/07/2024 (Cayce)
Obituary Preview: Yogi Bear Anderson/Truett March 22, 2020 – March 7, 2024
Cayce House of Cats mourns the sudden loss of Yogi Bear to a presumed heart attack on March 7, 2024. He was close to 4 years old.
Yogi was preceded in death by his mother, Black & White Mama of the Suggs and Kelly feral colony. He leaves behind his sister, BooBoo Bear (of the home), a brother, Chewy (adopted by Chad Henderson and Bonnie Boiter-Jolley), a sister, Misifus (adopted by Luis Marica), 2 additional sisters, Adalyn Austin and Evalyn Jane (adopted by Sharon and Ivan Baughman) and the remaining residents of Cayce House of Cats (CHOC).
Yogi was one of six “miracle” kittens rescued (in utero) from the Suggs and Kelly (S&K) feral colony on March 21, 2020. He was born at CHOC the next day – 2 days before the feral colony property was destroyed for re-development.
He was a handsome fellow – sitting tall and proud with his long grey fur and inquisitive eyes. He and his sister, BooBoo Bear, were named in honor of BearBear - a former CHOC patriarch.
Yogi – we are stunned that you were taken from us so soon. Just the evening before, you were in your favorite spot under the kitchen table happily munching your dinner. We recognize that there is always the possibility that this kind of thing can happen at any time, but it is still very hard to accept. We also know that, as you make your way across the Bridge, you are re-united with your Mama and are welcomed by everyone from CHOC and S&K who have gone before. Thank you, Yogi, for allowing us to be part of your short life. We love you and miss you, sweet boy… Stoney and Valerie

Sparkie Zeluff - October 03, 2009 - February 25, 2024

Departed: 02/25/2024 (Cayce)
Obituary Preview: Sparkie Zeluff 10/03/2009-02/25/2024
Sparkie crossed the rainbow bridge on 02/25/2024. He was the sweetest, most loving, and relaxed dog ever. Truly just looking at him made you smile. We were extremely blessed to have Sparkie in our lives for a little over 14 years. We adopted Sparkie when he was a 5 month old pup from a family that thought he was “aggressive”. It’s very ironic because he had no aggression in him at all! Our family has so many fun memories of Sparkie and all of our phones have 100’s of pictures of him. Some of our funniest memories were Sparkie “chasing” things, which basically meant he would slowly waddle towards them. He would also run laps around the house in his younger days and loved to steal our socks or toys which was always funny. He was part of our grumble of three pugs and when they were young the kids performed a marriage ceremony for Sparkie and Shadow. He was in both the kids senior high school pictures.
Sparkie was literally the best dog ever, will be forever missed, and we were blessed to have him be part of our family. Eternal snuggles and hugs Sparkie aka Bubby, Sparkopotamus, we love you.

Skittles Meeks - January 01, 2000 - February 16, 2024

Departed: 02/16/2024 (Cayce)
Obituary Preview: Skittles, known to all simply by that sweet and vibrant name, embarked on her final climb to the great sunny spot in the sky on February 16, 2024.
Skittles was the embodiment of love, a kind soul who never met a lap she didn't like, or a sunbeam she wouldn't bask. Her days were filled with the thrill of exploration. Every other week she'd be finding a new spot to sit or a new window to climb. She loved climbing many things, including people. She just loved to be held and carried around. She'd even sit on my shoulder like a bird.
Skittles was the sweetest cat you could ever meet. Always the friendly face in any crowd, Skittles had a gift for making every room brighter and every heart lighter. She taught us that life is about the simple pleasures: the warmth of the sun, the thrill of discovery, and the comfort of being close to those we love. So, let's not say goodbye but rather, "See you later!" because a spirit as loving as Skittles never truly leaves us.
She's just exploring the great beyond, waiting for us to catch up.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is an obituary?

An obituary is a written notice that announces the death of a person, typically including their name, age, date of birth and death, and a brief biography. It's usually published in a newspaper, online obituary platform, or funeral home website to inform friends, family, and community members of the passing.

Why are obituaries important?

Obituaries serve as a way to honor and celebrate the life of the deceased, while also providing essential information for those who want to pay their respects. They help notify people of the passing, provide details about the funeral or memorial service, and offer a sense of closure for loved ones.

Who writes an obituary?

Typically, the family members or close friends of the deceased write the obituary. However, it can also be written by a funeral home or a professional obituary writer. In some cases, the deceased may have written their own obituary in advance.

What information should be included in an obituary?

A typical obituary includes the person's full name, age, date of birth and death, place of residence, occupation, education, achievements, hobbies, and surviving family members. It may also include information about the funeral or memorial service, charity donations, and other relevant details.

How long should an obituary be?

The length of an obituary can vary depending on the publication or platform. Generally, it should be concise and to the point, ranging from 100 to 500 words. Longer obituaries may be more suitable for online platforms or memorial websites.

Can I include photos in an obituary?

Yes, many publications and online platforms allow you to include one or more photos with the obituary. This can be a great way to personalize the tribute and help readers connect with the deceased.

How do I submit an obituary to a newspaper?

Contact the newspaper's obituary department directly to inquire about their submission process and deadlines. You may need to provide the written obituary, photo(s), and payment information. Some newspapers also offer online submission forms.

Can I publish an obituary online only?

Yes, there are many online platforms and websites that allow you to publish an obituary without printing it in a newspaper. These platforms often offer additional features such as guest books, condolences, and memorial pages.

How much does it cost to publish an obituary?

The cost of publishing an obituary varies depending on the publication, word count, and additional features. On average, you can expect to pay between $50 to $500 or more for a printed obituary. Online platforms may offer free or low-cost options.

Can I edit an obituary after it's been published?

In most cases, it's difficult to make changes to a printed obituary once it's been published. However, online platforms may allow you to edit or update the obituary at any time.

How long does it take for an obituary to be published?

The publication timeline varies depending on the newspaper's schedule and deadlines. Typically, an obituary will be published within 1-5 days of submission. Online platforms usually publish immediately or within a few hours.

Can I write my own obituary in advance?

Yes, many people choose to write their own obituaries in advance as a way to control their legacy and ensure accuracy. This can also be a therapeutic exercise in reflecting on one's life and accomplishments.

What is a death notice?

A death notice is a brief announcement of someone's passing, usually including only the basic facts such as name, age, date of death, and funeral information. It's often used when a full obituary is not desired or necessary.

What is the difference between an obituary and a eulogy?

An obituary is a written notice announcing the death and providing biographical information, whereas a eulogy is a speech or written tribute delivered at a funeral or memorial service to celebrate the person's life and legacy.

Can I include humor in an obituary?

Absolutely! An obituary can be a great opportunity to showcase the person's personality, quirks, and sense of humor. Including humorous anecdotes or quotes can help make the tribute more relatable and memorable.

How do I handle errors or inaccuracies in an obituary?

If you notice an error in an already-published obituary, contact the publication or platform immediately to request corrections. Be prepared to provide proof of the error and corrected information.

Can I republish an old obituary?

In some cases, yes. If you want to republish an old obituary on its anniversary or for another special occasion, you may need to obtain permission from the original publication or copyright holder.

What is a living obituary?

A living obituary is a written tribute or biography created while someone is still alive. It can be used as a way to celebrate milestones, achievements, or special occasions.

Can I include quotes or lyrics in an obituary?

Absolutely! Quotes, lyrics, or poems can add depth and meaning to an obituary. Just be sure to obtain necessary permissions or citations if required.

How do I find old obituaries?

You can search online archives of newspapers or genealogy websites like Ancestry.com or Findmypast.com. Local libraries or historical societies may also maintain archives of old newspapers and obituaries.

Can I create an online memorial page instead of an obituary?

Yes! Online memorial pages offer a flexible way to share memories, photos, and stories about the deceased. They can remain active indefinitely and provide a space for ongoing tributes and condolences.

What is the purpose of an online guest book?

An online guest book allows friends and family to leave condolences, share memories, and sign their names digitally. It provides a convenient way for people to express their sympathy and support from anywhere in the world.

How long do online obituaries remain available?

The duration varies depending on the platform or website. Some online obituaries may remain available indefinitely, while others might expire after a certain period (e.g., 30 days). Be sure to check with the platform for their archiving policies.

Can I use social media to share an obituary?

Absolutely! Social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter, or LinkedIn can be effective ways to share an obituary with a wider audience. You can post a link to the online obituary or share key details along with your personal message.

What if I don't want an obituary published at all?

In some cases, families may choose not to publish an obituary due to personal preferences or cultural traditions. This decision should be respected; however, it's essential to consider how this might affect those who would like to pay their respects.
