His family will receive friends at Toale Brothers Funeral Home in Sarasota on Friday, Dec. 16 from 4 pm - 7 pm.
A service will be held at Incarnation Catholic Church on Sat., Dec. 17 at 1 pm. Interment will follow at Sarasota Memorial Park where he will rest peacefully beside his father and son, Jeff.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is an obituary?

An obituary is a written notice that announces the death of a person, typically including biographical information, accomplishments, and details about their life. It serves as a way to inform others of the person's passing, share their story, and provide information about funeral or memorial services.

Why are obituaries important?

Obituaries play a significant role in honoring the deceased, providing closure for loved ones, and serving as a historical record of the person's life. They also give family and friends an opportunity to pay tribute to the deceased and share their memories.

Who typically writes an obituary?

In most cases, the family of the deceased or a close friend writes the obituary. Funeral homes or crematories may also offer assistance with writing and publishing obituaries.

What information should be included in an obituary?

A typical obituary includes the person's name, age, date of birth and death, cause of death (optional), surviving family members, notable achievements, and information about funeral or memorial services.

How long should an obituary be?

The length of an obituary can vary, but it's usually between 100-500 words. The goal is to provide a concise yet meaningful summary of the person's life.

Can I include photos in an obituary?

Yes, many online obituary platforms and newspapers allow you to upload photos or other multimedia elements to accompany the written obituary. This can help bring the person's story to life and make the tribute more personal.

What is the difference between an obituary and a death notice?

A death notice is a brief announcement of a person's passing, usually including only basic information such as name, age, and date of death. An obituary, on the other hand, provides a more detailed account of the person's life and accomplishments.

How do I submit an obituary to a newspaper or online platform?

Check with the specific newspaper or online platform for their submission guidelines and deadlines. Some may accept submissions online, while others may require email or phone submissions.

Is there a cost associated with publishing an obituary?

Yes, many newspapers and online platforms charge a fee for publishing an obituary. The cost varies depending on the publication and the length of the obituary.

Can I write my own obituary in advance?

Yes, some people choose to write their own obituary in advance as a way to reflect on their life and leave a lasting legacy. This can also help reduce the burden on loved ones during a difficult time.

How do I find an old obituary?

You can try searching online archives, visiting local libraries or genealogical societies, or contacting the newspaper or funeral home where the obituary was originally published.

Can I edit or update an existing obituary?

This depends on the publication or platform where the obituary was published. Some may allow edits or updates, while others may not. It's best to check with the original publisher for their policies.

What if I want to keep my loved one's obituary private?

If you prefer not to share your loved one's obituary publicly, you can opt for a private online memorial or create a password-protected page. Alternatively, you can choose not to publish an obituary at all.

Can I include charitable donations or memorial funds in an obituary?

Yes, many families choose to include information about charitable donations or memorial funds in lieu of flowers. This can be a meaningful way to honor the deceased and support a worthy cause.

How long does it take for an online obituary to be published?

The publication timeframe varies depending on the platform or newspaper. Some may publish immediately, while others may take several hours or days.

Can I republish an obituary from one platform to another?

This depends on the terms of service for each platform. Be sure to check copyright laws and permissions before republishing an obituary.

What if I need help writing an obituary?

You can ask a friend or family member for assistance, or consider hiring a professional writer or funeral home staff member who specializes in writing obituaries.

Can I include humor or personal anecdotes in an obituary?

Absolutely! An obituary is a celebration of the person's life, so feel free to include humorous stories or personal touches that capture their personality.

How do I handle errors or inaccuracies in an already-published obituary?

What if I want to publish multiple versions of an obituary?

This is acceptable, especially if you want to tailor different versions for different audiences (e.g., one for social media and another for a local newspaper).

How do I ensure that my loved one's obituary is easily searchable online?

Can I include quotes, poems, or songs in an obituary?
