Obituary Preview: Michael Joseph Murphy, November 7, 1944 - April 25, 2022 was born in Manhattan, New York to Michael and Margaret (nee Griffin). Educated in NYC, Michael went on to graduate from the New York Institute of Technology.
Michael joined the New York Police Department in 1967. He was very devoted to his job and also enjoyed playing the bagpipes in the NYPD Emerald Society. Mike ended his 20 year career in the Manhattan North Homicide Squad as Detective Sergeant.
Michael was very proud of his first generation Irish heritage as was keenly demonstrated in his quick, humorous, Irish wit and generous, thoughtful kindness. Mike, an avid fan of crossword puzzles and Jeopardy, also enjoyed “tinkering” in his homemade workshop building furniture and creating stained glass lampshades and windows.
Surviving Michael are his loving wife Laura (Quinn) of 38 years; his children Michael Brian, Kathleen Marie, Timothy Patrick; and cousins Kate Brady (Hugh), Debbie Coleman (Kevin), Monsignor William Foley, as well as many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Michael was predeceased by his sister, Kathleen Morrissey, and brother, Thomas Murphy.
Visitation will be at Coffey Funeral Home on Sunday May 1st from 3pm to 8pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at Transfiguration Church on Monday at 10:30 with burial to follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery.

Obituary Preview: Tara Schatzel of Tarrytown died on April 14, 2022, after a courageous battle with cancer.  She was born on April 26, 1973, to Joseph and Kathleen D’Eufemia.
Tara was a graduate of Manhattanville College and held various office management positions, but most loved the time she spent raising her children.  She is survived by her loving husband Robert, her adored children Ryan and Matthew, her mother Kathy, brother Mike, nephews John and Patrick as well as many cherished cousins.  She also leaves behind very close friends who were like sisters to her. She was predeceased by her father Joe.
Visitation will be at Coffey Funeral Home on Wednesday, April 20, from 4PM to 8PM.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday at Transfiguration Church at 10:30 AM with entombment to follow in Sleepy Hollow Cemetery.

Obituary Preview: Daniel Love, a longtime resident of Sleepy Hollow died April 13, 2022 at the age of 77. Daniel was born in New York City on December 1, 1944 and was the son of Vincent and Stephanie Wojcik Love.
Daniel served in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War. He was a member of the American Legion Post 1038 in Valhalla and the Vietnam Veterans. He also served as a mentor for Provetus.
He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Surviving are his loving wife of 36 years Eileen (Dwyer); his children Daniel and Kaitlyn (Nicholas) Distefano and his grandson Jack Michael. Also surviving are his siblings Patricia, Vincent, Kathleen, Christopher and Debra as well as many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his sisters Eileen and Stephanie.
Visitation will be at Coffey Funeral Home on Thursday from 4PM to 8 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at Transfiguration Church on Friday at 10:30 with burial and military honors to follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery.

Obituary Preview: Thomas Lombardi passed peacefully from this life into Heaven on April 4, 2022 at the age of 94. He was born in Bronx, NY on July 20, 1927, the son of Ernest & Katherine Speno Lombardi. He served as a Seaman 2nd Class in the Navy. On April 19, 1953, he married Mary Vaccaro in Immaculate Conception Church.
Thomas worked in the Shipping Department at Lord and Burnham in Irvington and retired after 38 years. He was also a member of the Sleepy Hollow Fire Department, Columbia Hose for over 50 years.
During his retirement he enjoyed spending time with his many friends in town and as a member of the Tarrytown Seniors.
He is survived by his daughters, Kathleen of Tarrytown, Patricia (Thomas) Abt of Hopewell Junction, and Joanne of Hopewell Junction. He is also survived by his grandchildren Danielle (Christopher) Moreno and Christopher (Ashley) Abt and his great-grandchildren Ayden, Chace and Clyde Abt, and Colton, Grayson and Paige Moreno. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers Patsy and Ernest.
Visitation will be at Coffey Funeral Home on Thursday April 7 from 2 to 6PM. Funeral Mass will be Friday, April 8 at 10AM at St. Teresa of Avila Church. Interment will follow in Sleepy Hollow Cemetery.

Obituary Preview: Jose Eduardo Ojito passed away suddenly on March 27, 2022.   Jose was born on October 12, 1966 to Emelina and Oliver Ojito (predeceased) in North Tarrytown, NY.  On June 9th, 1990 he married his high school sweetheart, best friend and love of his life, Maria Josefa Rama.
He was a life active member of Union Hose Company No. 2 of the North Tarrytown (Sleepy Hollow) Fire Department joining in November 1984.  He held the office of 2nd LT, 1st LT, Captain, then attained the office of Chief Engineer from 2000-2006.  He was currently Deputy Chief and Chief Driver of Union Hose.  In addition, he was a life active member of the North Tarrytown (Sleepy Hollow) Ambulance Corp. where he was an EMT, past Captain, and LT.  He was an associate member of Cataract Engine No. 2 of Ossining FD and Conqueror Hook & Ladder Co. No 1 of the Tarrytown FD.
He was a graduate of Sleepy Hollow High School Class of 1984.  After Graduation, he worked at General Motors from 1985-1990.   On July 9th, 1990 he became a member of the North Tarrytown (Sleepy Hollow) Police Department.  In 1998, he transferred to Tarrytown Police Department where he was promoted from Patrol Officer to Detective on February 20th, 2019.
He leaves to mourn his loss his beloved wife, Maria, and his three greatest joys, Jennifer, Melissa and Lauren, his grandpuppy Snickers, his aunt Migdalia Valle (Angel, predeceased), his cousin Miguel Valle (Doreen), his mother-in-law Maria Rama (Pedro Rama, predeceased), sisters-in-law Eva Rama and Liset Miranda (Ramiro), his nephews Nicholas & Michael Rama and Fabian & Daniel Miranda.
Jose was loved by SO many family, friends, and co-workers, as well as his community.  He continues to give back by being an organ donor.
Visitation will be at Coffey Funeral Home on Thursday from 2PM to 9PM. His Funeral Mass will be at Transfiguration Church on Friday at 10:30 followed by interment in Sleepy Hollow Cemetery.

Dorothy was born in Brooklyn, New York to Roland and Edythe Brown. She grew up in Yonkers, New York and was educated there in the public schools. She later attended the Drake Business School. On June 14, 1950 she and John Garibaldi were married in the Church of St. Paul the Apostle. Together they had four children; John Jr., Jean, James and Joan. They raised their children in Philipse Manor, North Tarrytown (Sleepy Hollow) New York. The children attended St. Teresa School and Sleepy Hollow High School.
Dorothy was a dedicated homemaker and devoted mother. She was active in the PTA and was a volunteer at Phelps Memorial Hospital. She was a member of the National Association of Realtors and worked for the Finnegan Realty Company. She and her family enjoyed the Philipse Manor Beach Club along with the Tarry Crest Swim and Tennis Club.
In 1996 Dorothy and her husband moved to Peridia Golf and Country Club in Bradenton, Florida. She enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, bridge and mahjong. She also enjoyed golf and tennis. She liked entertaining and traveling. She loved visits from her family.
She is survived by three children, John Jr. (Karen), Jean Sidwell and Joan Weder (Rene), Seven grandchildren: Christopher and Cynthia; Paul, Phillip and Christian; Mary Ann and Jimmy. Nine great  grandchildren: Jacob and Joseph, Lucas and Ryan, Austin and Parker; Jeffrey, Avery and Braden. She was predeceased by her husband John (March 18, 2003) and her beloved son James (September 27, 2009). A memorial service will be held at Union Church of Pocantico Hills on June 2nd at 11:00 AM

Edith was born in North Tarrytown, New York on August 30, 1933, to Edith and Lewis T. Papp, where she grew up with her sister Gladys Zelensky, and her two late brothers Helge Lund and William Papp.
Edith was mother to William (Bill) Hongach, Linda Pometti, Laura Cassetta, Edith Felis, Louanne Ucci, Lewis Hongach, and Andrew Hongach. A long-time residence of Irvington, NY where Edith raised her children with love and devotion with her late husband William J. Hongach. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
As an Accountant/Bookkeeper, Edith was retired and loved spending time with her family. She was a great listener and offered such great advice, which we all will miss dearly.

Obituary Preview: Robert Goldstein, better known as "Goldie", passed away on March 3rd, 2022 after a battle with cancer. Born October 25th, 1944 to Elizabeth and Nathan in Bronx, NY, Goldie quickly moved to Tarrytown and planted his life. Along with being a professional Fire Safety Director for Sarah Lawrence College, Goldie spent more than 55 years of his life doing what he loved to do most - helping others and having fun doing it. Goldie was a 9-time Ex-Captain from Engine 77 of the Tarrytown Fire Department and a longtime Department Safety Officer. No matter the time or day, you could find Goldie responding to hundreds of emergencies within the village every year.
When Goldie was not with the Fire Department, he was officiating local youth sports. In fact, if you or your children have played basketball, football, or baseball in the past 35+ years in Westchester, you have either laughed with Goldie or yelled at him on the court or field. A past President of the International Association of Approved Basketball Officials, Goldie truly loved being on the court in the action.
Goldie also enjoyed taking on other community activities. After recognizing a need for a travel baseball program in the area, Goldie founded the Tarrytown/Sleepy Hollow Hawks baseball team. His passion for the game combined with his drive to help others created a fun and safe place for hundreds of players from the area.
Predeceased by his loving wife, Kathie, Goldie passed peacefully just the way he wanted to - in his own home at an age that meant a lot to him, 77. Goldie is survived by his children, Adam, Nicole, David (Teresa), and Alicia. He also deeply loved his grandchildren, Ashton, Connor, Peyton, Aiden, Michael, and Matthew.
Services for Goldie will be on Friday, March 11th, 2022, from 4-8pm at Coffey Funeral Home. Department services for Goldie will be at 7pm. Final farewell to Goldie will be on March 12th at 10am prior to a procession by Engine 77's quarters and then to the Sleepy Hollow Cemetery.
If you knew Goldie, you loved him. He was truly one of a kind and will be sorely missed.

He is also survived by his sister Bobbie Sue Kane and his nephew Danny Kane. David’s wife Marlene and his daughter Jennifer Santana predeceased him.

She attended Tarrytown Schools and graduated from Sleepy Hollow High School in 1964. She had worked for Pepsico in Purchase for many years and later went to work for River Communications in Irvington where she had been an Administrative Assistant until she retired.
Diane is survived by her nephews Kenneth Dorio and Keith Dorio as well as many cousins. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her sister Joanne Dorio.
A Graveside Service will take place on Friday March 4 at 11:00 at Sleepy Hollow Cemetery.

Obituary Preview: Helen A. Lennon, of Tarrytown died peacefully on February 11, 2022 at the age of 88. The daughter of Thomas and Delia Curley O’Grady, she was born in Yonkers on June 30, 1933. Helen had lived in Dobbs Ferry for many years while raising her family. In 1993, she moved to Tarrytown and had recently been living in Darien, CT with her daughter.
Helen had been an Executive Secretary for many years at the New York Power Authority in White Plains. When she moved to Tarrytown, she became very involved in her new parish, Transfiguration Church, which she loved very much. She was a Eucharistic Minister, taught CCD, worked in the office part-time and belonged to the Transfiguration Seniors. She had also been a member of the Tarrytown Seniors. Helen was an avid reader and loved crossword puzzles and word games. She was affectionately known as the Scrabble “Queen”. She was able to enjoy many family vacations to Long Beach Island as well as several family trips to Ireland.
Helen will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother and aunt who more than anything enjoyed spending time with her family. She is survived by her loving daughters Elizabeth (Frank) Bombace of Thornwood and Laura DiMauro of Darien, CT as well as her beloved grandchildren Michael Bombace, Laura Bombace, Thomas DiMauro and Deirdre DiMauro and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband John Lennon and her sisters Catherine Murray and Mary Reif.
Visitation will be at Coffey Funeral Home on Wednesday February 16, 2022 from 4PM to 8PM. Her Funeral Mass will be at Transfiguration Church on Thursday February 17, 2022 at 10:30 AM followed by interment in Mount Calvary Cemetery.

Retreat House, and Marymount Convent. Served at the Academy of the Sacred Heart of Mary, Sag Harbor, NY; St. Thomas Aquinas, Bronx, NY; and St. Francis Xavier, Manhattan. Ministered in Cartagena, Colombia.
Was a member of the Marymount Convent Community, Tarrytown, at the time of her death.
Survived by her cousin, Sister Maria del Carmen, RSHM, nieces and nephews in Colombia, and by the members of her RSHM religious community.

She came to the United States in 1978 and settled in the Tarrytowns. She worked as a seamstress in Tarrytown where she took great pride in her work which she enjoyed very much. Later she worked for Mallory Battery which was in North Tarrytown.
Helena and her husband Paulo raised two daughters: Marcia and Regina. She was a parishioner of St. Teresa of Avila Church and a member of the Portuguese American Cultural Center in Tarrytown.  She will always be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother and sister who loved nothing more than being with her family.
Helena is survived by her daughter Marcia (Wilson) Sousa and her granddaughter Tatiana Sousa as well as her sister Marina Vida. She was predeceased by her husband Paulo, her daughter Regina and her brother Jose Guedes.
Visitation will be at Coffey Funeral Home on Wednesday from 4PM to 8PM. Her Funeral Mass will be at St. Teresa of Avila Church on Thursday at 10:00 with the mass celebrated by Reverend Osvaldo Franklin. Interment will follow in Sleepy Hollow Cemetery.

Obituary Preview: GAVALLER, LASZLO – Laszlo Gavaller of Sleepy Hollow, NY, formerly of New York, NY, passed away peacefully on February 4, 2022 at the age of 81.
Born in Debrecen, Hungary on October 26, 1940, Laszlo arrived in New York City in 1968 where he worked as a craftsman his entire career. He met Katalin Gajdos, his wife of almost 50 years at a church dinner to celebrate Valentine’s Day on the Upper East Side in 1971. They married in Yonkers, NY on May 27, 1972.
Laszlo was a wonderful husband and father, a hard-working and quiet man who could repair anything or drive anywhere with just a look at a map. He was fearless in his pursuit to come to America and make a life for himself with only a few dollars in his pocket and the promise of finding a Hungarian community in NYC. He was so proud of the house he built with Katalin, every inch of it the crafted masterpiece that he created for others in his career. His family will always cherish the trips to visit their extended family in Hungary as well the many nights sitting around the table hearing stories about his life.
He is survived by wife and two daughters, Andrea Gavaller Madden and Jessica Gavaller.
A visitation for family and friends will be held at Coffey Funeral Home in Tarrytown on Friday, February 11, from 5-7 p.m. with services to be held at 6:30 p.m.

Deirdre had been the Office Manager for Schott North America for many years until her retirement.
Surviving are Roger, her loving husband of 32 years and her beloved daughters Claire and Kelly.  Also surviving are her brothers Mark and Michael (Martha) Witkowski.

Obituary Preview: Anthony J. Battista a lifelong resident of the Tarrytowns died January 28, 2022 at the age of 88. Born in North Tarrytown on November 17, 1933, he was the son of Anthony and Mary DiVico Battista. Sonny as he was known to his family and friends was a graduate of Archbishop Stepinac High School in 1952. After high school, he served in the United States Army from 1953-1956 where he was stationed in Korea. After his time in the service, he attended the McAllister School of Embalming and embarked on a long career as a funeral director.
He started his career in New York City and later worked for the former Edwin L. Bennett Funeral Home when it was in Tarrytown. He had also worked for the former Dwyer Funeral Home in Tarrytown and most recently he had been working at Coffey Funeral Home in Tarrytown. He had also been a hearse driver for Midway Auto for many years.
Active in his community, he was a lifelong parishioner of Immaculate Conception Church where he served as an Altar Boy and later as an usher and a volunteer at the annual bazaar. He was a life-active member of Phenix Hose of the Tarrytown Fire Department, a member of the Knights of Columbus St. Elmo Council and a member of the Men’s Sokol Lodge. He had also served as a Village Trustee from 1971-1973.
On August 5, 1967, he married Janis Ann Galba in Immaculate Conception Church. She predeceased him in 2020.
Tony is survived by his children James (Linda) and Janis Ann (James) Orzan as well as six grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by his sisters Virginia Seminara, Jessie Badagliacca, Maire Badagliacca and Mafalda Chebetar.
Visitation will be at Coffey Funeral Home on Thursday from 3PM to 7PM. Fire Department Services will be at 6:00 PM. His Funeral Mass will be Friday at 10:00 at Immaculate Conception Church with interment and Military Honors to follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
