Reba Marie Biggs - October 08, 1937 - November 27, 2023

Departed: 11/27/2023 (Alvarado)
Obituary Preview: Reba Marie Toomer Biggs passed away peacefully in her sleep on the morning of November 27, 2023, and in that moment, Heaven’s angels prepared for a feast knowing what kind of treats were about to grace the table. Many knew Reba for her cooking—whether it be at her home or at Lillian Elementary where she cooked breakfast and lunch for over one hundred children each day by herself—Reba’s love language was food, and it’s a part of her that she gave freely. Her husband, John’s, knack for growing an abundance of foods was matched only by Reba’s ability to tend the garden—be it canning, freezing, or whatever it took to preserve the precious produce. There was a one-time foray into making sauerkraut that was blessedly short-lived. At Thanksgiving there were three versions of gravy made: one fully loaded with giblets, one with giblets but no celery, and one plain. That is how important her family was to her. (Amanda didn’t eat any of the gravy so this time it can’t be blamed on her.) We cannot credibly pay homage to such a wonderful woman without recognizing her greatest love of all: her family. Unconditionally absolute and unmatched in depth, her love and dedication to her family was evident at every game, every school event, every performance, and every after-school meal prepared. There were very few events Reba missed if her children or grandchildren were involved, and there was nothing she wouldn’t do to ensure their success or happiness. In later years, she looked forward to Rocky’s weekend updates on her great-grandchildren’s activities complete with pictures and war stories. She was fiercely protective and never one to mince words in defense of her kids, grandkids, or great-grandkids. All of us knew who to call if we needed a little help…or a big shovel. A lifelong member of the Church of Christ, Reba could be found in the same spot on the same pew every Sunday for as long as she was physically able to go. She adored her church family and loved seeing the “kids” grow up, have families of their own, and continue to serve as adults. Reba was preceded in death by her parents, Raymond, and Julia Toomer; brother, JL Toomer; sister, Helen Sypert; husband, John Biggs; and son, Danny Biggs. She is survived by her son, Rocky Biggs, and wife, KayLynn; daughter, Tina Woodlee and husband, Keith; grandchildren, Clint Biggs (Brooke), Amanda Singer (Jay), Lacy Barnett (Clint), Jennifer Woodlee; great-grandchildren, Ashlynn, Brayden, Josh, and Alex; sister, Martha Harvey and countless cousins, nieces, and nephews. Those left behind to miss her will continue carrying the torch of love, good food, and fellowship in honor of a woman whose exponential impact is impossible to replace.

Rhonda Faye Upchurch - October 16, 1968 - November 25, 2023

Departed: 11/25/2023 (Alvarado)
Obituary Preview: Rhonda Upchurch, 55, passed away peacefully in her home on November 25, 2023.  She was born October 16, 1968, to James Henry II and Debra Hilton (Baxter).
Rhonda was preceded in death by her father, James Henry II; stepfather, Dene Baxter; sisters Rachel Brewer, Michelle Billberry, and Rebecca Brown.  She is survived by her mother, Debra Baxter; siblings, Regina Holland, James Henry III, and Tana Henry; husband, David Upchurch; children, Heather Upchurch, David and Bonnie Upchurch, Jesse and Ashlie Upchurch, and Nicholas and Abby Upchurch; 9 grandchildren, and numerous adopted children that claimed her as their own.
Rhonda moved from Woodville to north Texas as a teen, where she met her husband, David.  They raised their children together in Alvarado, Texas. Rhonda was always willing to open her home to those in need.  Over the course of her life, she allowed over a dozen people, including full families, to stay in her home in times of difficulty.
Rhonda’s work ethic was unparalleled.  She was dedicated to her business, spending weeks at a time out of state ensuring that her customers were taken care of.  She was relentless in all her endeavors, working just as hard at finding diamonds in Arkansas or making sure that her grandbabies had too many presents under the Christmas tree as she did at running her business. Rhonda loved to gamble and to garden.  She felt most at home outdoors, camping and fishing or visiting the coast with her family. She enjoyed crafting, cooking, and finding good deals. She sacrificed so much to give her children a better life and was incredibly proud of each of them.
After being diagnosed with breast cancer in 2015, Rhonda continued to live life to the fullest, trying to chase as many of her dreams as she could.  Doctors predicted that she would live two to five years, but she lived eight and a half.  She never gave up her hope for a cure, and never let the sickness slow her down. She was a fighter to her last breath.
Rhonda’s family invites you to celebrate her life at the Full Gospel Tabernacle at 1010 S Parkway Dr., Alvarado, Texas for visitation on Friday, 12/1/2023 at 6:00 pm.  Memorial services will take place at the Full Gospel Tabernacle on Saturday, 12/2/2023 at 2:00 pm.
