Obituary Preview: Our dear brother, Gerard Anthony Laffman, was born on July 22, 1959, the youngest of eight children of Louis and Mary Laffman of Kings Park, New York. Gerard was the grandson of Thomas and Alice Hart who were longtime parishioners of St. Joseph’s Church.
He attended St. Joseph’s School and was a graduate of Kings Park High School. Gerard also attended ITT in Massachusetts and the Academy of Aeronautics in Queens, New York. Gerard was a retired employee of the Town of Smithtown.
As a lifelong resident of Long Island, Gerard enjoyed boating, fishing and sunsets at the beach with family. He had a passion for music and loved attending concerts. In his younger years, he enjoyed playing baseball, attending games, and cheering on his favorite team, the New York Mets. He enjoyed trips cross country and traveling abroad, especially to Ireland, the native land of his ancestors. Spending time with family was Gerard’s greatest treasure. Obituary Preview: Kings Park, NY - Richard “Rick” Verruso, age 74, passed away on Monday, April 22nd, 2024. Rick was born in Brooklyn, NY on November 12, 1949, to Laura and Frank Verruso. He grew up in Brooklyn with many of his cousins. He was very proud of his Italian American roots and enjoyed a large extended family life.
Rick leaves behind his wife of 53 years, Zoe, his sister Marybelle, and his children Michael and his wife Erin, and Erica and her husband Tod, and his five grandchildren Dylan, Brandon, Emma, Katie, and Lucy.
Rick will always be remembered as hard working, sometimes working two or three jobs at once. Weekends were for working on his cars or watching his children’s and grandchildren’s sporting events.
Rick enjoyed the beach and walks on the boardwalk with Zoe. He also loved good food and traveling with his wife and cousins, especially to all-inclusive resorts in the Caribbean and cruises.
He will be remembered for his loyalty and dedication to his family and friends, his sense of humor, his proud military service in the U.S. Air Force, his love of cars (especially Mustangs), and his love of the NY Mets and Dallas Cowboys.
He will be sorely missed.

Marie C. Manginelli - June 22, 1928 - April 18, 2024

Obituary Preview: Marie Castelli Manginelli passed away peacefully in her home on April 18, 2024, at the age of 95. She was born in the Bronx NY on June 22, 1928, to Filomena (Rizzi) Castelli and Ippolisto (Joe) Castelli. Marie went to school in the Bronx and graduated from Aquinas High School in1945, where she made many lifelong friends.
Marie met her husband, Albert Manginelli, in 1947, and they were married on April 29, 1950. They bought a home in Queens Village and later in Elmont on Long Island, and then in 1964 they moved to Smithtown. Marie was widowed in 1970, and later was married to Louis Calabria Jr. (1975 to 1980). She worked for the Smithtown Central School District as a secretary for 25 years, retiring in 1993. She moved to Fairfield at St. James in 1999 and was an active member of that community, including serving as the Secretary of the Board of her condominium section and as Secretary for her local chapter of The League of Women Voters. She also volunteered at the Smithtown Township Arts Council in St. James and was a member of many clubs.
Marie made many good friends throughout her life and was always on the go. She loved traveling, the theater and the arts, the beach, good food, and especially living on Long Island. In 2021, she left her much-loved Long Island and moved to Heritage at the Plains at Parish Homestead in Oneonta, NY, to be closer to family. Her family wants to thank all those at The Plains who cared for Marie over these last three years and who showed her so much love and support.
Marie was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Al, her brother Joseph Castelli, and many beloved relatives. She is survived by her children Lisa Manginelli Heimbauer (Gary) and William Manginelli (Regina) — and Donna Calabria Blaskopf and Christoper Calabria (Lisa), who came into her life in 1975. She is also survived by 8 grandchildren (Randy Von Bernewitz (Tara); Albert, Gianni, and Linda Manginelli; Brian (Dena) and Kevin (Teresa) Blaskopf; and Rachel and Juliane Calabria); 5 great-grandchildren (Holly and Samantha Von Bernewitz; and Dominic, Dessa, and Savanna Blaskopf); and other extended family members (including Stephanie Heimbauer Pelcher, Melanie Heimbauer Pelcher, Gary Heimbauer, and their families), all of whom she loved so much and who added great joy to her life.

Michael was born in New York City, NY on May 18th, 1936, to Rose and Vincent ‘Jimmy’ Italiano. He grew up on New York City’s Lower East Side with his siblings, Lois and Richard. He was very proud of his Italian American roots and enjoyed a large extended family life for most of his years.
Michael leaves behind his wife of 67 years, Corinne, and his children Debra and her partner Rachelle, Donna and her partner Eddie, Michael and his wife Jen, his granddaughter Amanda and her husband James, his grandson Christian, his sister Lois and her son Edward, and his adoring dog Pepper.
He will be remembered for his fierce loyalty to his family and friends, his terrific sense of humor, his storytelling, big heart, courage, and can-do spirit, along with his love of good food. He would be the first to say that he lived a long and happy life with no regrets, for which he was very grateful.
He will be sorely missed.

She was born on July 16, 1935 to Sophie and Charles Clancy of Hempstead, LI, NY; and graduated from Hempstead High School. She married (late) husband Edward Hagenson in 1967 and lived in Melville NY with her daughters Susan and Lisa Boiko (from her previous marriage) and Jennifer and Kristen Hagenson.
Dot worked in secretarial positions for a variety of places - a public school, a private pre-school, a medical office, and a townhome community. She enjoyed helping people, and was a beloved smile of welcome at all these places. She and her family were actively involved at Northport Baptist church in East Northport for over 30 years. Faith in God and serving Him was central to her life. She dearly loved her last church family at Dix Hills Evangelical Church.
For her her final 7 years of her life, Dotty lived at Paumanack Village in Greenlawn, NY and was a familiar smiling face as she walked the grounds every day, hoping to chat with everyone as they met.
Dorothy is survived by her daughters. Susan, Jennifer and Kristen; and her elder sister Jean. She will be remembered lovingly by her 7 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
We are all blessed to know that she is at peace with her Lord and Saviour.

In 1949 the family moved to Kings Park and built a home where she grew up alongside her younger brother Tommy. The family had a great love for boating and gardening. Bobbie-Jo graduated from Ralph J. Osgood High School in 1965. She soon met the love of her life, Joe Howard. They Married and moved to Miller Place where they lived their lives to the fullest. Joe and Bobbie-Jo never had children but treated their beloved dogs Sammy, Cleo and especially Buddy as their Babies. Joe was a crane operator and Bobbie-Jo worked at the Kings Park Psychiatric Center as a nurses clerk in central supply for 30 years. After retirement Bobbie-Jo continued her love for gardening and boating and traveled across the country in hers and joes RV. She loved cooking and has been known to deliver soups, meals and cookies to all of her neighbors. But it’s the 4 legged pups who she really enjoyed cooking for! She made homemade dog treats and always had them on hand for the pups walking past her home.
Bobbie-Jo is predeceased by her husband Joe Howard, Mother Joan Shepherd, Father Robert Shepherd and Brother Thomas Shepherd. She is survived by her beloved Niece Jillian Zimmermann(Timmothy), great niece Harper, sister-in-law Barbara Shepherd. Cousins, Liz Flynn (Dennis), Douglas Wainwright, Debbie Flynn, Elle, Dennis Flynn(Susan), Cole and Emma. Friends, coworkers and Neighbors. You will be deeply missed Bobbie-Jo!

Funeral service will be held at St. Joseph Church Kings Park on April 5, 2024, at 10:30am. Burial to follow at Calverton Cemetery where she will be laid to rest with her husband John.
Rita was born in Brooklyn NY, to Joseph & Helen Zickmund on January 27, 1934. She graduated in 1952 from Bay Ridge High School. She met her husband John Bakewell and was married on June 16, 1956. Rita was a loving wife and homemaker for her family. Both Rita and her husband were in the restaurant business for over twenty years and then went on to work for Estee Lauder of Long Island. She enjoyed cooking, baking, hosting holidays and spending time with her family. Rita was filled with life and her vibrant personality bought love and laughter to all those who knew her.
Rita is preceded by her children Helen, John, Mark, Glenn, & Rene, and their spouses Rich, Andrea, Lili, and Branko. Rita also leaves behind five grandchildren: Rich, Nick, Jackie, Alex, and Gianna plus her two great grandchildren Chiara and Rocco.
Rita will be missed.

Her parents Rafael Velez Santiago and Santos Perez Velez had 8 children, Carmen being the youngest daughter. The Velez Family consisted of Rosa, Antonia, Rafeal, Inez, Gloria, Celida, Carmen and Luis. The Velez children
filled the home in Puerto Rico with love and laughter. Carmen made her way from Puerto Rico to New York City in 1951. She lived with her sister, Inez, they worked together in a sewing factory. On their nights off they would enjoy dancing. It was at a coffee shop where she met Albert Guevara, her husband
of 54 years. Albert and Carmen were married May 24, 1952. Together Carmen and Albert would welcome 5 children in the world, Sandra Baccillieri, Nancy Foley, Frances Nagy, Albert Guevara, and John Guevara. Carmen and Albert made the decision to move their family from Manhattan to Kings Park. It was in 1969 when the couple purchased the family home at 3 Sagebrush Lane Kings Park. Kings Park became the Guevara
family home for many years. With God’s faith and love the Guevara family would grow through marriage. Carmen & Albert were blessed with the gift of 9 Grandchildren. David Domenech, Janelle Baccillieri, Bonnie Foley, Cyrena Barbarite, Nicholas Guevara, Holly Gier, Jacklyn Heise, Alisa Finnerty and Nicole Souza. The grandchildren are all
blessed to have Grandma Carmen as a role model. Carmen was able to meet her 9 Great Grandchildren, Maliyah Rose Barbarite, Patrick Thomas Barbarite, Raelyn Rose Cassar, Giovanna Guevara, Max Joseph Gier, Grace Lilly Gier, Isabella Marie Heise, Antonia Marie Heise, Amaya Frances Finnerty. Obituary Preview: Sally A. Pruslow, only child of John and Alice (Johnson) Williams; a beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away peacefully on March 17, 2024, at the age of 78. Born on May 30th, 1945, Sally lived a life full of love, laughter, and kindness. She touched the hearts of all who knew her with her infectious smile, her strong voice, and her ability to help others.
Sally was born and raised in Huntington, but adopted Kings Park as her family’s home. She was very committed to her family and friends. Her door was always open and those lucky enough to walk through knew her hospitality. She loved to cook and enjoyed celebrating the holidays. She loved the opportunity to bring her family together. She loved the Christmas season, but had a special place for St. Patrick’s Day (even before her granddaughter made the day even more special).
Sally lived a life dedicated to service. She started and ended her career as a nurse (RN). Even back as a nurse starting off at Huntington Hospital, she always spoke her mind to whomever she thought needed to hear it. That spirit for advocacy lasted her whole life. When she took time off from employment to raise her children, she put that advocacy to work in her community and that culminated with 9 years on the Kings Park Board of Education (though many years of involvement before and after that service).
All who were fortunate enough to know Sally will miss her greatly. She will be deeply missed by her husband of fifty years, John, her three children, Darren, Alyson, and Michael, and her grandchildren, Alyssa, Alexander, Fern, and Rowan.

Friends became part of her family. She worked for Francesco's bakery for many years. It was there that she developed life long friendships. Marie was generous and kind. She was funny and welcoming. She will be greatly missed by everyone.

Bob lived a life of service to his family, his country, and his community. Bob honorably served his nation in the United Sates Airforce for four years before embarking on an outstanding career as a locomotive engineer for the Long Island Railroad.
He was happily married for 60 years to his late wife, Barbara. Bob is survived by his sister, Ann Tekverk, along with his loving children, Robert Jr., Nancy, Sean (Frankie), and Beth Ann. He was a proud grandfather of Kaitlyn, Justin, Patrick, and Tom.
Robert was an active member of the Knights of Columbus and the American Legion, serving as Grand Knight from 1999-2001. He was an influential member of his church (Christ the King), serving as an usher for many years. Bob always enjoyed playing golf and would volunteer at many golf outing fundraisers. His happiest times were spent at Fort Wilderness Campground in Disney World. Nothing made Bob happier than taking his family, whether it be his children or his grandchildren, on a trip to Disney in his RV.
May the memories of Robert J. Alley bring comfort to those who knew and loved him.

Andy cherished his nieces and nephews, he would light up and was so happy in their presence. Andy’s favorite hobby was playing the NY scratch off games. He loved playing them and won off and on. He also enjoyed going to the casinos once in a while.
Beloved son of June and the late Andy Sr. Cherished brother of Linda (John), Darlene, the late Jeff (Anna). Loving uncle of Karen (Peter), John (Denise), Vanessa (Som) and David (Alya). Adored great uncle of Madison, Eleanor, Caitlyn, Samantha, Jamison, Michael, Charlie and Silas.

Obituary Preview: Joan (Fehlker) Sauer Mertz, 84, went to be with the Lord, on Friday, February 9th, 2024 in Woodbury, New York.
Born in Queens, New York, she was the daughter of George and Margaret Fehlker. She was a graduate of John Adams High School. She worked as a secretary for the Federal Aviation Agency and Kollsman Instrument Corporation. After raising her children, she worked as a secretary at The State University of New York at Stony Brook until her retirement in 2000. She especially loved her position at Stony Brook in the aquatics program where she worked with the handicapped. Following retirement, she moved to The Villages, Florida, where she loved doing volunteer work of any kind, including volunteering at the local Hospice for 10 years.
As a child, she attended Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Queens, New York. Once married, she attended St. Joseph’s Church after moving to Kings Park, New York. While living in The Villages, Florida, she belonged to The Garden Worship Center and St. Timothy's Church. She will be remembered for her amazing ability to make friends wherever she went; she never knew a stranger. She would always invite people into her life and found great joy in being able to share the love of Jesus with those around her. One of these ways was through facilitating a prayer group in her home. It brought her much happiness to spend time with all of her family members. She was a devoted daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and aunt. Joan was very artistic and loved doing crafts of all kinds, especially if it was Christmas-themed as Christmas was her favorite holiday. She had a beautiful love of animals and would do anything to help an animal in need.
She is survived by her sister Ann Pierce, brother George Fehlker (Patricia), daughter Lorena Ledbetter, grandchildren, Matthew Ledbetter and Mariah Holaday (Michael), and great-granddaughter, Ruth Holaday. She was preceded in death by her first husband Eugene P. Sauer, second husband Jack Mertz, and son Eugene G. Sauer.
