Departed: 04/27/2024 (Frankfort)
Obituary Preview: Tereza Guzik, 85, passed away on April 27, after battling several health issues. Her final hours were spent peacefully at home surrounded by family that loved and cared for her.
Tereza was born on July 30, 1938, to the late Hipolito and Ana Moskalewicz who emigrated war torn Poland following WWII. Having lost everything, they purchased passage to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in the hopes of a new beginning.
Life was definitely challenging, but Tereza was determined to create a life she loved. After graduating school, she secured a job at The Bank of London / South America in Curitiba. She eventually met and married her sweetheart, Tadeu Guzik. Soon after, they decided to embark on an adventure and relocated to the USA to begin a new life. They settled in New Jersey and worked hard for many years, built a family and pursued their dreams. Possessing family ties in two distinct countries had its predicaments so they lived between the US and Brazil for several years. Ultimately, they chose to live out their final years in Georgetown, KY.
Tereza loved her family, gathering with friends, helping others, caring for all animals and traveling.
Tereza is survived by her daughter, Tammy (Sam) Battaglia; her son, Tim Martins; her brother, Mike (Luci) Moskalewicz; her grandchildren, Caitlin Battaglia, Gabrielle Battaglia, Timothy Martins, Nicholas Martins, Sarah Martins; her great grandchildren, Carter Martins and Dominic Martins; her bonus granddaughter, Samantha (Dustin) Reed and bonus great granddaughters, Aspen Reed, Ember Reed, Oakley Reed, and River Reed. Tereza was preceded in death by her husband, Tadeu Guzik and her two sisters, Anastacia Polega and Margo Moskalewicz.
The family would like to express their gratitude to Bluegrass Care Navigators hospice team for all the care and comfort provided during the past year. We would also like to thank her caregivers and all the friends and family that took the time to call and check on her.

Departed: 04/13/2024 (Frankfort)
Obituary Preview: Agnes Marie Howell died at the beautiful age of 90 on Saturday, April 13, 2024, in Frankfort, Kentucky.
Agnes was born on March 23, 1934, in Boulder, Colorado, where she fell in love with the mountain vista. Her family moved to Memphis, Missouri in the ‘40s, the setting of Agnes’ childhood with her four beloved siblings. She was close with each sibling throughout their lives - from moving to Davenport, Iowa with her three sisters to work at The Times Cafeteria (where they were known as “The Jansen Quartette” and where she met her husband) to taking turns visiting one another as adults.
Agnes married her husband, Jerry Leroy Howell, on August 24, 1956, and together they raised two children, Debora and Douglas. Drawn by horses and white fences, they moved to Kentucky and opened a chiropractic office in Frankfort, which Dr. Doug Howell continues today.
Agnes loved riding and showing horses, especially her prized mare Miss Pride, with whom she won state High Point Racking Horse. She loved observing nature’s beauty, especially spring flowers and hummingbirds, which she fed every summer. She worshiped at Graefenburg Christian Church and Church of the Ascension. She enjoyed dancing, playing Bingo and exercising at the Capital City Activity Center, where she served on the Advisory Council, and socializing with the “Good Timers” group, where she met her special friend of over 10 years, Edward Coleman. She adored life up to her final days with dear friends, Caroline Collins, Jane Sprung, Bettye Gaither, Jeannetta Sacre, Becky Tennill and many more.
Most of all, Agnes loved being with family. For over 20 years, she lived next door to her son’s family, cherishing impromptu visits from grandkids bearing wildflower bouquets and summer’s weekly “Sunday Fundays” by the pool. She attended countless grandchildren’s sports games, concerts, gymnastic competitions, and recitals with pride. She enjoyed regular trips to visit her daughter’s family in Indiana and many family vacations. She loved hosting family from out of state traveling through for a visit.
Agnes grew old with several siblings, witnessed the success of her children, helped raise five grandchildren, spoiled five great-grandchildren, and nurtured many friendships that were like family. In an interview with her granddaughter a week before she passed Agnes shared, “I love my family. I have the best family in the world… [I’m] very, very blessed.” She lived a long, healthy life surrounded by people who loved her and whom she loved. May we all be as blessed as Agnes.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is an obituary?

An obituary is a written notice that announces the death of a person, typically including their name, age, date of birth and death, and a brief biography. It's usually published in a newspaper, online obituary platform, or funeral home website to inform friends, family, and community members of the passing.

Why are obituaries important?

Obituaries serve as a way to honor and celebrate the life of the deceased, while also providing essential information to those who want to pay their respects. They help to notify people of the passing, share details about the funeral or memorial service, and offer a chance for loved ones to share stories and memories.

Who writes an obituary?

Typically, the family of the deceased or a close friend writes the obituary. In some cases, a funeral home or cremation service may assist with writing the obituary or provide a template to help guide the process.

What information should be included in an obituary?

A standard obituary usually includes the person's full name, age, date of birth and death, place of residence, occupation, education, military service (if applicable), and surviving family members. It may also include details about the funeral or memorial service, charitable donations in lieu of flowers, and any other relevant information.

How long should an obituary be?

The length of an obituary can vary depending on the publication or platform. Generally, it's recommended to keep it concise and focused on the most important details. Aim for around 100-200 words, but some publications may allow longer or shorter submissions.

Can I include photos in an obituary?

Yes, many online obituary platforms and funeral home websites allow you to upload photos or even create a photo gallery to accompany the obituary. Some newspapers may also accept photos for print publication.

How do I submit an obituary to a newspaper?

Contact the newspaper's obituary department directly to inquire about their submission process and guidelines. They may have specific requirements for format, length, and content. Be prepared to provide detailed information about the deceased and payment for publication (if required).

What is the cost of publishing an obituary?

The cost varies depending on the publication or platform. Newspapers often charge by the line or word count, while online platforms may offer free or paid options with varying levels of features and services.

Can I edit an obituary after it's been published?

It's generally difficult to make changes to a printed obituary once it's been published. However, online obituaries can often be edited or updated by the author or administrator. Check with the publication or platform for their specific policies.

How long does it take for an obituary to be published?

The timeframe for publication varies depending on the publication or platform. Online obituaries can be published immediately, while print newspapers may take several days to a week or more.

Can I write my own obituary in advance?

Yes! Many people choose to write their own obituary as part of their estate planning or as a way to reflect on their life accomplishments. This can be a therapeutic exercise and ensure that your story is told in your own words.

What if I'm struggling to write an obituary?

If you're having trouble writing an obituary, consider seeking help from a friend, family member, or professional writer. You can also use online resources and templates as guides.

Can I include humor in an obituary?

Absolutely! Obituaries don't have to be somber and serious. Including humorous anecdotes or personality traits can help celebrate the person's life and make the reading experience more enjoyable.

How do I handle sensitive information in an obituary?

If there's sensitive information about the deceased that you're unsure about sharing publicly, consider consulting with family members or close friends before including it in the obituary.

Can I include quotes or lyrics in an obituary?

What if I need to correct errors in an already-published obituary?

Contact the publication or platform where the obituary was published and explain the error. They may be able to issue a correction or update the online version.

How do I find old obituaries?

You can search online archives of newspapers, genealogy websites, or local libraries for old obituaries. Some funeral homes also maintain archives of past services and obituaries.

Can I republish an old obituary online?

If you have permission from the original author or publisher, you may be able to republish an old obituary online. Be sure to credit the original source and respect any copyright laws.

What's the difference between an obituary and a death notice?

A death notice is typically a brief announcement of someone's passing, often without additional biographical information. An obituary provides more details about the person's life and legacy.

Can I include charitable donations information in an obituary?

Yes! Many families choose to include information about charitable donations in lieu of flowers in the obituary. This can help honor the deceased's memory and support a meaningful cause.

How do I share an online obituary on social media?

Most online obituary platforms provide social media sharing buttons or links that allow you to easily share the tribute with your network.

Can I create a memorial website instead of an obituary?

Yes! Memorial websites offer a dedicated space for sharing memories, photos, and stories about the deceased. They can be especially helpful for those who want to create a lasting tribute beyond a traditional obituary.

What if I'm not comfortable writing an obituary myself?

If you're overwhelmed or struggling with writing an obituary, consider enlisting the help of a trusted friend or family member. Funeral homes and cremation services may also offer assistance with writing and publishing the obituary.
