Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 P.M. Wednesday April 27, 2022 at Thompsonville Baptist Church with Rev. Mike Campbell officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The family will see friends 6:00 till 8:00 P.M. Tuesday April 26, 2022 at Thompsonville Baptist Church and at other times will be at the residence.
A native of Caswell County, she was a daughter of the late Joseph Willard and Alma Hall Dove and had lived in Rockingham County her entire life.  She was a retired employee of Lorillard Tobacco Company and was a member of Thompsonville Baptist Church. She enjoyed cooking, and working in her yard and flowers. Virginia was preceded in death by her husband: Ellis Tuttle , her sister: Helen D. Apple and a brother: Willard Junior Dove.

Obituary Preview: Stoney Y. Smithey, 59, passed away on Thursday, April 14, 2022, at Annie Penn Hospital.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00PM Monday, April 18, 2022, in Citty Funeral Home Chapel and burial will follow in Greenview Cemetery.  The family will see friends 1 hour prior to the service at the funeral home and at other times they will be at the residence; 2751 NC Hwy 150 Reidsville, NC 27320.
A lifelong resident of the Williamsburg Community, he was a son of the late Elwood and Omie Johnson Smithey.  Stoney loved music, especially playing the harmonica, and watching wrestling and Duke basketball.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Larry and Ted Smithey.
Surviving are brothers; Charles Irvin “Sambo” Smithey (Irene), Jerry Thomas Smithey (Wanda), Randy G. Smithey (Rita), and Timmy K. Smithey (Debbie), sister; Carolyn Virginia Gammon and friend Mark, and many loving nieces and nephews.  His close friends; Kerry Hurley, Tim Thornton, Mark Truitt, and Mike Lewellyn.
The family would like to express their appreciation for the care and concern to the nurses in ICU at Annie Penn Hospital.  Citty Funeral Home is assisting the Smithey family.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband: Samuel Wayne Childrey, her father: Philmon Underwood and Mother Frances Moore Underwood, her brothers: Walter Wesley Underwood, and Philmon Underwood Jr, and a sister Catherine Underwood. She is survived by a brother: Christopher Robbie Underwood (TN) and a sister: Michelle Sundeen (of the home), and her nieces and nephews . She retired as a supervisor of Creighton Mills. She enjoyed spending time with and taking care of her family and did as much  as possible. She was treasured by all that knew he. She went home to be with the lord peacefully. Now she is dancing with the love of her life Wayne on that golden dance floor.  The family will conduct a graveside memorial service at Evergreen Memory Gardens on Thursday 4/14/22 at 3:00pm. A native of East Moline, IL, she was a daughter of the late James Edward and Jane Lorraine Jackson Davis and she had lived in Reidsville most of her life.  Diane was a member of Fairview Baptist Church and a homemaker.  She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband; William Harvey “Billy” Draper, Jr., a daughter; Jamie Draper, and a sister; Deborah Underwood.
Surviving is her son; William Harvey Draper III of the home, daughter; April D. Shepherd (Randy) of the home, brother; James Edward “Jimmy” Davis, Jr. (Sandy) of Madison, grandchildren; Matthew Tracey Draper and Peyton Shane Brown.

Graveside services will be conducted at 11:00 AM Monday, April 11, 2022, in Evergreen Memory Gardens.
A native of Scott Co., Virginia and he had lived in Reidsville most of his life.  Mr. Taylor was a retired pipefitter and attended Grace Fellowship at South Park.  He enjoyed helping with the church stew, attending the men’s fellowship, working puzzles, playing the lottery, and he loved children.  Mr. Taylor was a US Army veteran of the Korean Conflict and was preceded in death by his wife; Julia Kernes Taylor.
Surviving are his sons; Richard Taylor and wife; Tammy of Reidsville and Michael Taylor of Wilkes Co., grandchildren; Amelia York (Zack), Emily Taylor, Jackson Taylor, Patrick Taylor, and Reece Taylor, great grandchildren; Oakley Miller, Opal Miller, and Elijah York.
The family would like to thank Sherry Frye, Tina King, Brenda Anderson, Aubrey Simpson, John Isley, Glenn Isley, Ashley Miller, and Reba Wyatt for their kindness and care during Mr. Taylor’s illness.

Funeral services will be conducted Noon Thursday April 7, 2022 at Vance Street Baptist Church with Wayne Powell officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Memory Gardens. The family will see friends at the church 11:00 till Noon before the service at Vance Street Baptist Church and at other times will be at the residence.
A native of Reidsville, he was a son of the late Vance and Mozelle Stone Loftis and had lived his entire life in Rockingham County. A contractor and carpenter, he enjoyed riding his motorcycle, golfing, camping, bowling and scuba diving. Mark was preceded in death by his daughter: Lindsey Hudson.
The family would like to thank the congregations of Vance Street Baptist Church and Lawsonville Road Baptist Church and The Community Home Care and Hospice staff for their help and concern throughout Mark’s illness.

James was a native of Tampa, FL, a child of Carole Milton O’Neil and the late William Thomas “Tom” O’Neil, Sr. and had lived in Idaho, Greensboro, and the last few years in Reidsville. A former EMT in Boone, NC and a former Aquatics Director of the YMCA in Idaho Falls, ID, and Burlington, NC., James received an undergraduate degree from Appalachian State University and a Master’s Degree from U.N.C.G. An avid fly fishing enthusiast and an active participant in Project Healing Waters Fly Fishing, Inc. and The Guilford Green Foundation, James was preceded in death by father William Thomas “Tom” O’Neil, Sr.
Survivors include mother: Carole Milton O’Neil of Reidsville, and a brother: William T. O’Neil, Jr. and wife Mara of Reidsville, nieces and nephew: Avery O’Neil, Ella O’Neil, and Thomas O’Neil and many loving friends from Idaho, Winston Salem and Greensboro.

Ricky had lived in Rockingham County most of his life, and was a former employee of Macfield, Inc. He later worked at Electric Systems, Inc. and enjoyed fishing, hunting and gardening. Ricky was preceded in death by a brother: David Rose.

Graveside services will be conducted at 2:00PM Tuesday, March 22, 2022, in Reidlawn Cemetery with Military Rites by the Rockingham County Veterans Honor Guard.  People wishing to sign a register and pay their respects may come by Citty Funeral Home on Saturday, March 19, 2022, Sunday, March 20, 2022, and Monday, March 21, 2022, between the hours of 8:00 AM and 6:00 PM and on Tuesday, March 22, 2022, between the hours of 8:00 AM and 12:30 PM.
A native of Rockingham Co., he was a son of the late J. Gordon and Vera Cox Roberts and had lived in Reidsville all of his life.  Raeford was a member of Baptist Temple Church, where he had served as the Volunteer Music Director for many years, a Deacon, a member of the Brotherhood and went on many mission trips.  He worked for many years, with his father, at Freeway Builder Supply and was a NC National Guard Veteran.  Raeford was preceded in death by his parents, his son: David Douglas Roberts, and his brother:  Archie Taylor Roberts.
Surviving is his wife;  Carolyn Rand Roberts of Reidsville, his daughter; Anne Webster (Fred) of Pelham, his brother; Rev. Jeff Roberts (Beanie) of Angier, numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren, and many loving nieces and nephews.

Robert Eugene Portteus - December 21, 1929 - March 13, 2022

Obituary Preview: Robert Eugene “Big Bob” Portteus, 92, went to be with Lord on Sunday, March 13, 2022, at his home in North Myrtle Beach, SC surrounded by his loving family.
A private committal service was held at Midway United Methodist Church Cemetery in Reidsville and a Celebration of Life at Barefoot Church in North Myrtle Beach, SC.
Bob was born on December 21, 1929, in Toledo, OH to the late James Gold Portteus and Nettie Patty Portteus and had lived in North Myrtle Beach for many years.  At the age of 16, Bob lied about his age and enlisted in the Army to fight in WWII as a combat engineer.  From an early age, he was an evangelist and had a radio program called “The Awakening Hour”, retired from Polaroid Corporation, was a pilot, entrepreneur, watchmaker, jeweler, inventor, and worked at Jud Kuhn Chevrolet.  He was married to Jo Ann Turner on November 22, 1962, in Reidsville, NC, and lived in Charlotte, NC, San Antonio, TX, Toledo, OH, and North Myrtle Beach, SC to name a few.  Bob enjoyed fishing, camping, riding motorcycles, and flying airplanes.  Bob always lived life to the fullest.  He was a health enthusiast, and he adored his family.  He was a founding member of Barefoot Church in N Myrtle Beach, SC.  Bob was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Phillip Arthur Portteus, and a sister Patty Ann Portteus.
He is survived by his wife, Jo Ann Portteus, his daughters: Cindy Portteus Cumbo (Adam Brooks Cumbo), Kathy Portteus Kuhn (Judson Scott Kuhn), and Penny Jo-Ella Boos (Derek James Boos); his grandchildren: Lauren Cumbo Massey, Addison Buchanan Cumbo, Colton James Cumbo, Emma Kate Cumbo, Gavin Elijah Kuhn, Izabella Marie Boos, Turner James Boos, and Ellie Grace Boos; his great grandchildren: Kaylyn Brooke Labar and Brady James Labar.  He is also survived by his sister Joyce Louise Halstead.

A native of Rockingham County, she was a daughter of the late William I. and Mattie Allen Walker and had lived her entire life in Rockingham County. She was a former employee of Glen Raven Mills in Altamahaw, NC , Chase Bag Co. in Reidsville and was a retired employee of Burlington Mills Drapery Plant in Reidsville. Maggie was of the Primitive Baptist faith and enjoyed attending Eastside Baptist Church with her niece. She enjoyed cooking, quilting, cross stitching, gardening, and working in her yard and flowers. She was preceded in death by her sisters: Lucille Walker, and Maureen Walker, and her brothers: Allen Walker, Alvis Walker, Mike Walker, Mabon Walker, Marion Walker, and Lee Walker, and her special nephews: Phil Walker, Donnie Walker, and Lonnie Walker.
She is survived by a special niece: Linda Gammon and husband Kenny of the home, other nieces and nephews: Arnold Walker and wife Sharon, Brenda Walker, Ann Millsap and husband Mike, and Todd Walker, and her special friends Lula Smith,and Guynell Walker.

A native of Rockingham Co., she was the daughter of the late George Adam and Sadie Delapp Smith and had lived in Reidsville most of her life.  Tamesia was a member of Baptist Temple Church and was a retired Dental Assistant.  She began working with Dr. Robert Daniels, and then Dr. Walter Moore and with Dr. Bob Wheless.  Tamesia loved her family and animals, especially her dogs and cats.  She loved people and had a kind heart.
She is survived by her husband of 69 years; Marshall Bondurant of the home, son; Matt Bondurant (Mary) of Reidsville, daughter; Beth B. Booker (Danny) of Reidsville, grandchildren; Brooke Bondurant, Nicholas Booker, Hunter Bondurant, Austin Booker, Will Booker, Rachel Jones (Tyler) and Becca Kidd (John), great grandchildren; Reagan and Reece Jones, Maggie and Benjamin Kidd.

Obituary Preview: Philip Gordon Brooks, 80, of Reidsville, NC, passed away on Thursday, March 10, 2022.
Graveside services will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, March 15, 2022, in Greenview Cemetery with Rev. Mark Tolodzeicki officiating.  The family will see friends immediately following the service, at the cemetery, and at other times at the residence.  Those wishing to pay their respects can come by Citty Funeral Home on Sunday, March 13, 2022, or Monday, March 14, 2022, between the hours of 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. or on Tuesday, March 15, 2022, between 8 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. to sign a register.  Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, those attending the service are asked to wear a mask or face covering and to practice social distancing.
A son of the late Herbert Gordon and Thelma Pike Brooks, Philip was born on November 28, 1941, and lived in Reidsville all of his life.  He was preceded in death by his parents and by his sister, Virginia (Ginger) Brooks Grogan.
Phil was a member of Grace Fellowship at South Park (formerly First Congregational Christian Church) and was president and co-owner of Chaseline for approximately 20 years.  When his boys, Kris and Jay, were young, he helped them pursue their interests by coaching football, becoming a Boy Scout leader, attending and assisting with swim meets, and participating in the Guilford Militia for historical re-enactments of the Revolutionary War.
He was a member of the Reidsville Jaycees where he was honored with a lifetime membership. As he got older, he became passionate about restoring Model T Fords and joined a club of like-minded people, the Tarheel T’s. This club was more like a family as they shared tech sessions to work on their cars and went on tours, including overnight camping!
The joys of his life were his children, grandchildren, and especially, his two great grandchildren, Lily and Judah.
Survivors include his beloved wife of almost 60 years, Virginia (Ginny) Solomon Brooks, sons Christopher (Kris) Brooks (Regina) and Jason (Jay) Brooks (Denise), grandsons Austin Brooks, Tanner Brooks, Andrew Underwood (Chantel) and Adam Underwood (Esther), granddaughter Savannah Amey (Max), great-grandchildren Lily Brooks (daughter of Austin) and Judah Underwood (son of Andrew and Chantel), sisters Marjorie Tuttle and Patricia Powell, and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews. Obituary Preview: John Edward Evans, 74, passed away Tuesday, March 8, 2022.
The family will conduct a private memorial service at a later date.
A native of Middletown, OH, he was the son of the late Edward and Naomi Evans and had lived in Wentworth since 1990.  John was a graduate of Miami of Ohio University and he retired from Air Products.  Throughout his career with Air Products, he held various positions across several states, with the most recent being Plant Manager in Greensboro.  John was a dedicated GED instructor at Rockingham Community College for many years and had been a licensed Auctioneer for the past 20 years. John joined his good friend, Harry Mullis, as a partner and co-owner of Manitou Auctions, until Harry passed away.  John was an avid animal lover and he especially loved his horses, donkeys, cats, and dogs.   Above all, John had an unmatched affection and love for his family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and by his sister: Norma Deaton.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife;  Mary Ann Evans of the home, sons;  Bart Evans of Dublin, Ireland and Ben Evans and wife;  Sarah of Ruffin, grandchildren;  Silas Evans and Briar Evans, special nephew;  Brian Tracy of Xenia, OH, his special friend since birth;  Sheila Coomer of Sarasota, FL and numerous extended family and close friends.

A native of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, she grew up in Deland, FL and was a daughter of the late Samuel and Rhoda Linquist Clifton. She graduated from Florida State University with a degree in Bacteriology and   had lived in Reidsville for most of her life. A retired employee of Annie Penn Hospital, Marie was an active member and Elder of First Presbyterian Church, where she had served on numerous committees. She volunteered with Meals on Wheels, the Reidsville Y.M.C.A., and the Reidsville Public Library and many other organizations.
Marie was preceded in death by her husband: Charles Franklin Hedges, her son: David Franklin Hedges, sisters: Joyce Nathoom and Gladys Woods, and a brother: Howard Clifton.

Gary attended Canaanland Baptist Church and enjoyed playing golf and bowling.
