Nancyann Scardino - September 10, 1966 - February 25, 2024

Departed: 02/25/2024 (Milwaukee)
Obituary Preview: Nancyann Scardino, (nee Debattista)
Nancy went home to be with her Lord and Savior on February 25th at home surrounded by family. Nancy was born in Milwaukee on Sept 10th,1966.
Her parents Tom and Louise Debattista raised her off of 20th and college with her 2 sisters Tina and Dawn. Nancy graduated from Pulaski high school. She started working at USBank in 1984. She had 35 years at the bank. In early 1985 Nancy's friend Sue introduced her to her future husband. Our first date was a movie and McDonald's. We bought our 1st house 6 months before we were married on 8th and Manitoba. We were married on October 6th, 1990. Then we welcomed our daughter Alexandria in 1992. 5 years later we moved to Oak Creek, we then welcomed our son Salvatore born in 1997.
We had many good years camping and fishing together. In 2002 Nancy realized something was missing in her life and started reading the Bible and came to the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior. Nancy helped for years with me teaching Sunday school, Nancy was a gifted artist and did many things for church, she was also good as cross-stitch and crocheting.
As the kids grew up, we camped did church activities and spent time with friends and family. We moved to Waterford for the next 20 years and loved being in the country.
In 2017 Nancy's cancer journey started and for the next 7 years she battled that dreaded disease. Nancy went through so much having treatment after treatment through the years. Nancy was a fighter, she fought to the very end. It's not the end for Nancy she is in heaven right now with our Lord, she was 100% sure when took her last breath that she would be in glory. One of her verses she loved was Romans 5:8-9 KJV.
But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. [9] Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him.
In 2018 we bought a little piece of land in Adams County and had a camper there for a while and decided to build a house and move there in 2021. I was able to retire early and take care of my bride, she got to sit on that front porch that she loved sitting on.
Nancy and I always said we would praise God in the good times and in the bad, With the cancer there were some pretty bad times she went through. She never ever blamed God but praised Him. Nancy always said to me when I would say I love you she would say love you more even the last few days of her life she was my bride she would say that, but honey I have to say I love you more. I will see her again and I hope all of you will also.

Scott R. Ringhand - March 14, 1961 - February 19, 2024

Departed: 02/19/2024 (Milwaukee)
Obituary Preview: Scott passed away suddenly at home, on Monday, February 19, 2024, at the age of 62. After many years of stoically coping with a chronic illness, Scott is now at rest.
Scott grew up in Grafton. As a child, he enjoyed playing with hot wheels in the fields by his house. A favorite school story involved the Nuns calling his mom to discuss what he did to spiders. He enjoyed drawing and writing humorous verse. He would tell stories about burning up the streets with his high school friends. Growing up with animals, Scott was doggie dad to Bodean and Tucker, Blooe and Skylar and, most recently, Chilly and Pepper.
Scott worked various roles at Schwarz Pharma, ultimately as Distribution Supervisor. His career ended early due to the challenges of living with rheumatoid arthritis.
Known for his generous spirit, love of cheese and a legendary raspberry vodka recipe, Scott was a quiet man with a contagious laugh and quirky sense of humor. Scott often sent friends a joke or photo to make them smile. An easy-going man, Scott was fun to be around. If you were lucky, Scott would cook one of his creations for you.
For Scott, cheese was a “whey” of life. Scott not only enjoyed eating cheese but collecting all things cheese. This was one of many collections. Scott protected each room in the house with “little men.
'Scott loved riding cycles, snowmobiles – anything fast. When riding became challenging, he made the most of what he could do. He was always ready for a conversation about cars and would spend hours reading or looking at various models. He could easily recommend a car to a friend, though it could take Scott the better part of a year to decide what he would buy.
He liked watching and attending racing events. Scott listened to an array of music. He told stories of concerts attended at Alpine Valley and County Stadium during his youth and rarely missed the chance to see key bands perform. Making and drinking concoctions was par for the course.
He loved spending time with friends and enjoyed discussions with his nieces and nephews. One of Scott’s greatest joys was reacquainting with niece Millie and attending her wedding to Derek last fall. This also enabled meeting his nephew, Ryan.
He will be deeply missed by his wife, Kate and his beloved beagle ‘‘girls” Chilly and Pepper. Scott is survived by his niblings Millie (Derek) Shrout; Ryan Clark and his great nephews (Simon, Stanley
and Fisher); sibling Beverly Henrichs, also by step-siblings.
Scott’s extended family including his mother-in law (Claudia Ciurlik); brother- and sister-in laws (Beth (Mark) Wilson, Jim Ciurlik (Jill (Mary) Borsos), Joe (Bridget) Ciurlik; Jerry (Paula) Paulson; niece/nephews Martin, Jamie, Jenna Wilson and Declan Ciurlik mourn his loss.
His lifelong friend Jay Verish, along with aunts, uncles, cousins and an array of friends will feel his absence.
Scott was preceded in death by his parents (Carrie (Ray) Yankunas); (Roger (Evelyn) Ringhand); brother Robb and sister, Barb Schuster. Also, by his father-in-law (Terry Ciurlik).
To honor Scott’s memory, a celebration of life will be held on Thursday, March 14 at Ope! Brewing Company (6751 W. National Ave., West Allis WI) from 3:00pm to 6:00pm.
In remembrance of Scott, the family asks that donations be made to the Wisconsin Humane Society. Church & Chapel Funeral Service Serving the Family Milwaukee 262-827-0659 Waukesha 262-549-0659 Online Obit, Condolences, Directions www.churchandchapel.com

Joseph Francis Louvar - September 27, 1935 - December 11, 2023

Departed: 12/11/2023 (Milwaukee)
Obituary Preview: Joseph F. Louvar,
A truly kind, patient, and charitable soul with a deep Catholic faith who used his education and intellect to teach. Joseph F. Louvar, better known as Joe, passed away peacefully at the age of 88 on December 11th, 2023, at his home in Milwaukee. Born in Chicago Illinois in 1935, Joe was independent and adventurous. On his 1st day of kindergarten, he didn’t want to be there, so he walked 6 blocks home. At 6, he saw elephants. walking in a parade and followed them on his own. After 4th grade, he was told St. Tribius Grade School “was a good Catholic school” so he transferred. He chose his high school and
took the city bus system to get him there. While an average student, Joe was more interested in activities than books. He played the clarinet in band and orchestra. And loved to play football and swim. Every summer, on the south side of Chicago, he swam at the beach and dove off rocks at the quarries.
After graduating from De La Salle Institute High School in Chicago, Joe went to the Missouri School of Mines and Metallurgy. He studied Chemical Engineering and joined ROTC. At graduation, he received a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering and became a 2nd Lieutenant in the Army. The next year, Joe was elected to Sigma Pi Sigma National Physics Honor Society and accepted into the Chapter at Missouri School of Mines. After he completed the Engineer Officer Basic Course in Fort Belvoir Virginia, he spent 4 months at Fort Campbell. Joe went on to receive a Master of Chemistry in Chemical Engineering from the then Carnegie Institute of Technology.
Joe met his future wife Diane at Carnegie Tech. After 2 ½ years of marriage, they had a deep drive to serve others and were hired by the Catholic Extension Society in 1962 to manage St. Joseph’s Orphanage in Bethany, Oklahoma. Though the position was challenging, they cherished those years. Over the 2 ½ years, they created a warm and supportive environment for 45 to 70 children between the ages of 4 and 16.
Joe and Diane went on to have four children whom he loved: Joyce, Edmund, George and Claire. When the kids were younger, they swam at the YMCA weekly and participated in other activities. Every summer, the family went on a 2-week camping trip where they learned to build fires, put up tents, look at stars, fish and enjoy nature. These trips were filled with exploring and learning about history. Fishing, especially fly-fishing, became Joe’s passion over the years that he loved and enjoyed doing with his children and grandchildren. Joe and Diane cherished the time with their grandchildren and loved seeing and talking to them.
Joe’s 35-year career was spent at BASF as a Chemical Engineer with a significant interest in chemical process safety and the design of experiments (DOE). Sophie Evelyn Erickson - June 06, 1923 - November 29, 2023

Departed: 11/29/2023 (Milwaukee)
Obituary Preview: Sophie Evelyn Erickson, (nee Woyak)
On November 29, 2023, Sophie was met at heaven’s gates with open arms by her husband, Lester Harlan, and their daughter, Sonja Ann. She passed after a busy week with her family for Thanksgiving and her great grandson’s first birthday party. She was still on her game and sharing her opinions right up until the end. She let go as she had always said she wanted, peaceful and surrounded by those close to her, slipping away as she slept with their voices serenading her.
She was born on June 6, 1923, to Elizabeth (Rozumialski) and Matthew Woyak in Galloway, Wisc. One of fourteen, she’s preceded in death by her parents, half-siblings and siblings (Laura, Mary, Regina, Damon, Harry, Stanley, Clara, Leo, Agnes, Leona, Bernice, Florance and James).
Sophie married Lester on November 20, 1948, and together they leave a legacy built around family, faith, humor and music. Their love for their family and pride in each and every member had no bounds. She is loved and missed by five children: Paulette Ralston, Peter (Janet) Erickson, John (Grace) Erickson, Jeffrey (Denise) Erickson and Lisa (David) Chandre; nine grandchildren: Kristina Ralston, Paul-Michael (Debbie Hart) Ralston, Thomas Erickson, Zachary (Sabrina) Chandre, Veronica (Jake Neustedter) Chandre, Sonja (Zachary Dec) Chandre, Tahlia Erickson, Evangeline Chandre and Adam Erickson; four great-grandchildren: Harrison, Genevieve, David and Cade; and many beloved nieces, nephews, greats and friends. She considered it a wonderful blessing to have seen everyone at her 100th birthday party this past June.
Sophie lived her life always looking forward, using what she learned from the past and sharing her stories of her youthful shenanigans and travel with her children and grandchildren. She was stubborn, funny, strong and faithful. She could have sewn, crocheted and knitted her way to China and back with all the wonderful gifts she made. Her smile, stories, guidance, love and, yes, stubbornness will truly be missed.
Special thank you to Wilson Commons and St. Croix Hospice for their care and guidance.

Nicholas Edward Meyer - October 28, 1970 - November 16, 2023

Departed: 11/16/2023 (Milwaukee)
Obituary Preview: Nicholas E. Meyer,
Nicholas E. Meyer, age 53, was born to eternal life on Thursday, November 16, 2023. He was born in Green Bay, Wisconsin on October 28, 1970, the son of Edward L. Meyer, Jr. and Joni (Gardipee) Meyer. He is preceded in death by both parents.
Nick moved from his home in Green Bay to St. Coletta’s in Jefferson, Wisconsin when he was a young teenager. He graduated from St. Coletta’s School in 1992. One of his goals after graduating was to move to Milwaukee and to live in an apartment, as he wanted to live close to his aunt and Uncle. He met this goal and moved to Milwaukee 8/13/04. Nick immediately became a resident with a group home through an organization called Options for Community Growth. Options offers a variety of services, including residential living and day programming for adults with disabilities. Nick loved everything there was about his new home and programming. He became a star - everyone fell in love with Nick. Some of Nick’s favorite things to do at the day program were playing Yahtzee, coloring, and singing karaoke. Johnny Cash’s, “I fell into a burning ring of fire” could be heard throughout the building. At home, he loved watching Deal or No Deal and the Price is Right. He always thought he was the boss of the house and that it was his right to sit in the front of the van - and he could really hustle to get that front seat. A highlight for Nick was going on trips with Going Beyond Travel with Pam and her team. He went to many polka festivals, the Dells, flights all over the place. If he felt it was too long between trips, we’d get a “so, no more trips, huh?” Sundays were special for Nick - he loved to go shopping at the Dollar Store with his Uncle Brian, watch the Packer game while munching on favorite snacks, topped off with a good meal. It was a great day for him!
He will be deeply missed by his family and friends. He is survived by his sisters, Kristin Meyer and Michelle (Jeff) Conte. He is close with Jeff, his brother-in-law and Michelle & Jeff’s children - Kaitlyn, Emma, Ashley and Nicholas, Nick’s nieces and nephew. He bonded with his Uncle Brian Moore at age 12 and they quickly became great friends. He has several beloved aunts, uncles and cousins. Aunts and uncles include Richard Gardipee, George Gardipee, and Suzanne (Brian) Moore, Malcolm McLouh. Sue (Alan) Hubbard, John (Mary Ann) Meyer, Ursula (Bill) Thomasma, Mary Coover, Catherine (Tom)Tracy, and Theresa (Dante) Kobek. Nick also developed a special bond with his father’s second wife, Mary Ellen Troup, and her three children, Wilson (Diana Rigas) Troup, Kathryn (Mike) Limoni, Michael (Sarah)Troup and Mary Ellen’s five grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, as well as his Aunt Judy (Gardipee) McLouth, Aunt Gay Ann Gardipee and Uncle Don Coover.
In addition to family, he will be especially missed by his many friends at Options for Community Growth.
Nick was the spicy guy - filled with love, joy & shenanigans. He lived life fully and well. May his love of life remain in our hearts.
Family and friends are invited to gather for a Celebration of Life on Saturday, December 9, 2023, at CHURCH AND CHAPEL FUNERAL HOME,15250 W. National Ave. New Berlin from 2:00PM until 4:00PM with the sharing of memories and stories at 3:00 pm. A private burial will be at the Allouez Cemetary, Green Bay, Wisconsin.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is an obituary?

An obituary is a written notice that announces the death of a person, typically including their name, age, date of birth and death, and a brief biography. It's usually published in a newspaper, online obituary platform, or funeral home website to inform friends, family, and community members of the person's passing.

Why are obituaries important?

Obituaries serve as a way to honor and celebrate the life of the deceased, while also providing important information about the funeral or memorial service, burial details, and any charitable donations or tributes in lieu of flowers. They also help to notify people who may not have been aware of the person's passing.

Who writes an obituary?

Typically, the obituary is written by a family member or close friend of the deceased, often with the assistance of a funeral home or obituary writer. In some cases, the deceased may have written their own obituary in advance.

What information should be included in an obituary?

A typical obituary includes the person's name, age, date of birth and death, place of residence, occupation, education, military service, hobbies, interests, and surviving family members. It may also include information about the funeral or memorial service, burial details, and any charitable donations or tributes in lieu of flowers.

How long should an obituary be?

The length of an obituary can vary depending on the publication or platform it will be published on. Generally, it should be concise and to the point, ranging from a few sentences to a few paragraphs at most.

Can I include photos in an obituary?

Yes, many online obituary platforms and funeral home websites allow you to upload one or more photos of the deceased to accompany the obituary. This can be a meaningful way to personalize the tribute and help people remember the person.

What is the difference between an obituary and a death notice?

A death notice is a brief announcement of someone's passing, usually including only the basic facts such as name, age, date of birth and death. An obituary is a longer, more detailed tribute that provides more information about the person's life and legacy.

How do I submit an obituary to a newspaper?

Contact the newspaper's obituary department directly to find out their submission guidelines and deadlines. You may need to provide the written obituary text, along with any photos or other supporting materials.

Can I write my own obituary in advance?

Yes! Many people choose to write their own obituary in advance as a way to take control of how they want to be remembered. This can also help reduce the burden on loved ones during a difficult time.

How much does it cost to publish an obituary?

The cost of publishing an obituary varies depending on the publication or platform. Some newspapers charge by the word or line, while others offer package deals that include additional services like online hosting. Online obituary platforms may offer free or low-cost options.

Can I make changes to an obituary after it's been published?

In some cases, yes. If you notice errors or omissions in the published obituary, contact the publication or platform directly to request corrections. However, this may not always be possible, especially if the publication has already gone to print.

How long will an online obituary remain available?

This varies depending on the platform or website. Some online obituaries may remain available indefinitely, while others may be archived or removed after a certain period of time.

Can I share an obituary on social media?

Yes! Many online obituary platforms provide easy sharing options for social media sites like Facebook and Twitter. This can help spread the word quickly and reach a wider audience.

What is a guest book or condolence message?

A guest book or condolence message is a place where friends and family can leave messages of sympathy and support for the grieving family. These messages can be especially comforting during a difficult time.

How do I respond to condolences expressed through an online guest book?

You can respond individually to each message if you wish, but it's also common to post a general thank-you message acknowledging all the condolences received.

Can I include quotes or lyrics in an obituary?

Absolutely! Quotes, lyrics, or poems that were meaningful to the deceased can add a personal touch to the obituary and help capture their spirit.

What if I'm not sure what to say in an obituary?
