Hazel Marie Agardi - December 11, 1925 - January 09, 2024

Departed: 01/09/2024 (Pierpont)
Obituary Preview: Hazel Marie Agardi is now worshiping the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ in his house instead of her own.Marie was born December 11, 1925 in Gilmer County, West Virginia to Glenn and Myrtle Seckman. She was the firstborn of the family along with her twin sister who died at birth. Her brothers Ernie (Helen) and Dayton (Evalee) preceded her in death.Marie married her husband George on a Tuesday at the Lake County Courthouse in Painesville. Her mom was there. George and Marie made a life and home in Dorset Township. They were married for 67 years. George ran the Red and White grocery store and Marie baked pies filled with hand-picked locally grown fruits which drew customers from several counties. It was common during the holiday season to have seventy pies cooling everywhere in the Agardi home along with Hungarian nut rolls and baelish treats. Marie could not only bake, she could grow her own vegetables, can them, and put on hearty spreads for dinner. She had a special way with plants, which was evident in her bountiful gardens. Marie had healing in her hands beyond the green thumb. Burdock tea gave her energy after cancer treatments, stinging nettle, feverfew, and lemon balm were her backyard living medicine cabinet. Marie was full of knowledge about plants. Having grown up on hard times, she knew how to make a delectable salad with nutritious plants like watercress from the creek and taught others to recognize and cook purslane, lambs’ quarters, poke, and dandelion. If you could eat it, she knew how to cook it. Marie was industrious and a good steward of all that was entrusted to her. She recently said “ I've done the best I could do with what I had.” She taught herself to make a wooden tabletop, a concrete and stone hearth, and an archway. She could drywall, wallpaper with perfectly matched seams, and repair a zipper in jeans or jackets. She was not afraid to work hard to provide for her family of six children. Always awake with breakfast on the stove before we came into the kitchen.Surviving children include her daughter Carol of Warren; her son Bob (Diane) of Biloxi, Mississippi, her son Dan (Cari) of Dorset, and her daughter Deb (Vince) of Burr Oak, Michigan. Marie had 15 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren. Marie was preceded in death by her young son Billy (age 8), her great-grandson Zachary, her husband George and her daughter Ann.Marie lived her life as a Proverbs 31 woman. She worked with willing hands, provided food for her household, with the fruit of her hands she planted a vineyard. She dressed herself with strength and made her arms strong. Marie looked well to the ways of her household and did not eat the bread of idleness. Marie’s children rise up and call her blessed! Marie’s spirit is now in Heaven. Her body, an empty vessel, will be directly buried in the Dorset Cemetery as a private family moment.January 9, 2024, 11:15 PM Mother has breathed her last now… on to Emmanuel’s land… He has been faithful to keep her on her bed of languishing while her prayers have risen like incense around his throne. Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints. He said he would prepare a place for her… a mansion prepared especially for her… where they could be together eternally in a land where they never grow old and life can go forth in its intended fullness without this life’s current detrimental effects. Frequently Asked Questions

What is an obituary?

An obituary is a written notice that announces the death of a person, typically including their name, age, date of birth and death, and a brief biography. It's usually published in a newspaper, online obituary platform, or funeral home website to inform friends, family, and community members of the passing.

Why are obituaries important?

Obituaries serve as a way to honor and celebrate the life of the deceased, while also providing essential information to those who need to know about the passing. They help to notify friends, family, and acquaintances of the funeral or memorial service details, allowing them to pay their respects.

Who writes an obituary?

Typically, the family members or close friends of the deceased write the obituary. In some cases, a funeral home or obituary writer may assist with writing the obituary. The writer should be someone who knew the deceased well and can provide an accurate and personal account of their life.

What information should be included in an obituary?

A typical obituary includes the deceased's full name, age, date of birth and death, place of residence, occupation, education, military service (if applicable), hobbies, achievements, and surviving family members. You may also include funeral or memorial service details, charity information, and any other relevant information.

How long should an obituary be?

The length of an obituary can vary depending on the publication or platform. Generally, it's recommended to keep it concise, between 100-200 words. However, some online platforms may allow for longer tributes.

Can I include photos in an obituary?

Yes, many publications and online platforms allow you to include one or more photos with the obituary. This can be a great way to personalize the tribute and help readers connect with the deceased.

How do I submit an obituary to a newspaper?

Contact the newspaper's obituary department directly to inquire about their submission process and guidelines. Some newspapers may have online submission forms or email addresses where you can send the obituary. Be sure to follow their specific requirements for content, length, and formatting.

Can I publish an obituary online?

Yes, there are many online platforms that allow you to publish an obituary, such as Legacy.com, Tributes.com, or FuneralHomes.com. These websites often provide templates and guidelines to help you create a digital obituary.

How much does it cost to publish an obituary?

The cost of publishing an obituary varies depending on the publication or platform. Newspapers typically charge by the word or line, while online platforms may offer free or paid options with varying features. Expect to pay anywhere from $50 to $500 or more for a traditional newspaper obituary.

Can I edit or correct an obituary after it's been published?

It's possible to make corrections or edits to an obituary after it's been published, but it may depend on the publication or platform's policies. Contact them directly to inquire about their process for making changes.

How long will an online obituary remain available?

The duration that an online obituary remains available varies depending on the platform. Some websites may keep the obituary active for a few weeks or months, while others may maintain it indefinitely.

Can I include charitable donations in an obituary?

Yes, you can include information about charitable donations in lieu of flowers in an obituary. This is a thoughtful way to honor the deceased and support a cause they cared about.

What is the difference between an obituary and a death notice?

A death notice is a brief announcement of a person's passing, usually including only basic information like name, age, and date of death. An obituary is a more detailed tribute that provides a biographical sketch of the deceased.

Can I write my own obituary?

Yes, some people choose to write their own obituaries before they pass away. This can be a therapeutic exercise and ensure that your story is told accurately. However, it's essential to share your wishes with your loved ones so they know what you want.

How do I find an old obituary?

You can search for old obituaries through online archives like Newspapers.com or GenealogyBank.com. Local libraries or genealogical societies may also have access to historical newspapers and records.

Can I republish an old obituary?

If you find an old obituary that you'd like to republish, check with the original publication or copyright holder for permission. You may need to obtain permission or pay a fee to reuse the content.

What is the purpose of an obituary archive?

An obituary archive is a collection of past obituaries that can be searched and accessed by researchers, genealogists, and family historians. These archives provide valuable information for those tracing their ancestry or studying local history.

Can I use social media to share an obituary?

Yes, social media platforms like Facebook and Twitter can be used to share an obituary with friends and family. You can also create a memorial page or group to share memories and condolences.

How do I handle condolences on social media?

What if I'm struggling to write an obituary?

If you're having trouble writing an obituary, consider seeking help from a friend or family member who knew the deceased well. You can also consult with a funeral home or professional writer for guidance.

Can I update an online obituary with new information?

Yes, most online platforms allow you to update an existing obituary with new information, such as additional photos or updated funeral service details.

How do I ensure accuracy in an obituary?

To ensure accuracy in an obituary, verify facts like dates, names, and places with reliable sources. Double-check spelling and grammar before submitting the final version.
