Thomas J. Semanchin, a dedicated husband, loving father, cherished grandfather, and esteemed accountant, passed away on April 15th, 2024, at the age of 81. He succumbed to a year-long fight with bladder cancer, but was fortunate to have had a peaceful passing with his loved ones nearby. Born to John and Helen (Kuc) on October 17th, 1942, Tom lived a life marked by devotion to his family, passion for sports, and unwavering commitment to his profession. He was the first in his family to attend college and graduated from the University of Buffalo, after attending Baker Victory High School.
After college his first accounting job was working for the railroad, traveling throughout the East Coast and Midwest. During this time he also proudly served as an Army Reservist, and picked up his excellent culinary skills doing duty in the mess halls.
He went on to have a very successful accounting career spanning half a century. Tom’s biggest achievement was as the managing partner of the firm Semanchin & Wetter. His intelligence, expertise and integrity earned him the respect of colleagues and clients alike.
In addition to his professional achievements, Tom was a shining star in the realm of athletics in his youth and beyond. He found delight on the baseball diamond, basketball court, and softball field. His prowess as an athlete served as a testament to his dedication, discipline, and passion for excellence.
Tom also found joy in the simple pleasures of life. He cherished his fishing trips with friends in Canada, where he forged lifelong memories and countless fishing stories amid the serene waters. He lightened up any crowd with his great smile and always enjoyed a good joke.
Tom's greatest source of pride and joy was his family. He shared 54 beautiful years of marriage with his beloved wife, Nancy (née Felmet), who stood by his side through every triumph and challenge. Together, they raised two children, Annette (Chris) Semanchin Jones and TJ (Denise) Semanchin, instilling in them values of love, fun times, hard work, and perseverance.
As a grandfather to Samuel, Maggie, Cedar, and Amara, Tom's quiet wisdom enriched their lives in countless ways. He cherished every moment spent with his grandchildren, imparting lessons of kindness, generosity, and the importance of family bonds. Tom and Nancy hosted Annette, TJ and all the grandkids every summer at lake houses in Wisconsin, Michigan or New York, offering lifelong memories to the entire family. Tom was also survived by his sister Betty (late Armond) DiCillo and was beloved by his nieces, nephews and extended family.
Despite his accomplishments and accolades, Tom remained humble and grounded, embodying the virtues of humility and generosity. While prudent with his personal finances, he spared no expense in showering his loved ones with love and support.
A true friend to many, Tom's fun and subdued personality and genuine kindness endeared him to all who had the privilege of knowing him. His legacy will forever endure in the hearts of those he touched.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, May 25th at 10:30 AM in Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church, 10950 Main St., Clarence, NY.
