Obituary Preview: We, the staff and management of Charles Edwards Funeral Home mourn with The Bright Family in the loss of their loved one, Mr. Bobby Bright, 69, of Ayden NC who passed on Saturday June 27, 2020 at Vidant Inpatient Hospice.
Mr. Bright was born in Pitt County on October 12, 1950 to the late Levester Bright and Vallie Carmon. He was a resident of Pitt County and attended the local schools. He was a automotive detailer.
In addition to his parents; he is preceded in death by his daughter Trevoya Wallace. He is survived by; his wife: Mrs. Barbara Wallace Bright of the home. Four sons: Bobby Wallace of Ayden NC, Bobby Bright Jr. (Amy) of Vineland NJ. Jonathan Bright and Angelo (Lisa) Williams both of Raleigh NC. Five daughters; Alisha Wallace and Donisha Wallace both of Greenville NC. Latonya Wallace Edwards (Branson) of Ayden NC. Darcey Dawsey (Raheem) of Plainfield NJ, and Alice Daniels of Winterville. Two sisters; Alice Richardson of Farmville NC and Hattie Burney (Bobby) of Elizabeth NJ. Twenty-five grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends Graveside Services will be Friday July 3, 2020 at 2:00pm in Evergreen Memorial Estates in Grifton NC
Public Viewing will be Thursday July 2, 2020 from 4-6pm in the Chapel of Charles Edwards Funeral Home.

Obituary Preview: We, the staff and management of Charles Edwards Funeral Home mourn with The Blount Family in the loss of their loved one, Mr. Carlton Lyle Blount, 66, of Farmville NC who passed on Friday June 26, 2020 at his residence.
Carlton was born on August 3, 1953 to the late George Carver and Queen Esther Beamon Blount in Farmville NC. He quietly passed on Friday June 26, 2020 in the presence of his family. He graduated from HB Sugg High School in in 1971 and attended Norfolk State University. In his younger years he worked at A.C. Monk and Collins and Aikman. Later on he moved to New York. While in New York, Carlton was known as "Bow Dean", "Bow", or "Cot La Rock". Carlton was an entrepreneur and he knew how to make money. He enjoyed life, loved his family and we loved him.
Carlton was preceded in death by; his parents, brothers; James M. Blount and Calvin J. Blount. Sisters; Faye L. Blount and Stephanie L. Blount Fields.
Carlton is survived by: Special daughter; Shannon Joyner of Greenville NC. Extra Special niece; Valerie Faye Fields Rodgers (John) of Farmville NC. One sister; Valerie Blount- Joyner of Farmville NC. Three Brothers; George C. Blount, Jr. (Keren) of Bronx NY, Maurice A. Blount (Karla) of Brooklyn NY, and Phillip G. Blount of Farmville NC. Brother in law; William C. Fields of Raleigh NC, Sister in laws; Josephine Blount and Doris Lane both of Greenville NC. One aunt; Rosa Beamon of Washington NC, and a special friend; Jacqueline Vicks of Bronx NY, along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. Graveside services will be on Wednesday July 1, 2020 at 11:00am in Crestlawn Memorial Gardens in Farmville NC. Clarence Earl Baker Jr. better known as Chubby, was born on August 19, 1970 and departed this life on May 11, 2020. He leaves a cherished memory to, his mother, Betty Dupree (Howard), his father, Clarence Baker Sr., wife Danielle Brown-Baker, 3 daughters: Chanqua Daniels, Shaniqua Moore, Markia Brown a son: Kamari Brown and grandson Javion Burnett. He also leaves a lifetime of shared memories to his brothers Rodney Baker (LaTange) and Joel Baker (Tuwanna) and Terrance Cherry as well as a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and friends. At the time of our loss, he was employed by Ceneplex a division of Hyster Yale and was a 1988 graduate of Junius H Rose High School. He also enjoyed watching football, his favorite team was the "Denver Broncos".
Graveside service will convene on Saturday May 16, 2020 at 11am at Homestead Memorial Gardens. A walk through viewing will be on Friday May 15, 2020 from 2:00pm until 7:00pm in the Chapel of Charles Edwards Funeral Home.

Obituary Preview: We, the staff and management of Charles Edwards Funeral Home mourn with the Sutton Family in the loss of their loved one, Mr. Joshua Hicks Sutton, 89, of Greensboro, NC (formerly of the Ayden Community) who transitioned on Friday May 8, 2020.
Mr. Joshua Hicks Sutton was born August 12, 1930 in Edgecombe County, NC to the late Joseph D. and Eva Bell Baker Sutton. He was educated in the Craven County School System and joined Zion Chapel Free Will Baptist Church under the leadership of Bishop C.R. Parker. “HICKS” as he was affectionately known, spent most of his adult life in Newark, NJ where he worked in the steel industry and was a gifted singer in various quartets.
He met and married Minnie Bell Cannon. To this union seven children were born. After her death he met and married the former Mrs. Roberta Whitaker. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sons; Curtis Cannon, Thurman Sutton and Clarence Sutton. One daughter; Barbara Sutton. Two brothers, four sisters and one stepson; Bernard Whitaker.
“HICKS” leaves to cherish his memory: His wife; Mrs. Roberta W. Sutton of the home. One son; Joshua Sutton, Jr. of Ayden NC. Two daughters; Brenda Sutton and Valerie Sutton of Newark, NJ. One stepdaughter; Jamallah Mohammed of Greensboro NC. Two stepsons; Curtis Price of Newark, NJ and Orlando Price of Columbus, OH. Theee brothers; George Sutton (Aletha) of East Orange, NJ. Joe Sutton of Ayden, NC and James Sutton of New Bern, NC. along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Graveside service will convene on Wednesday May 13, 2020 at 12noon in Live Oak Free Will Baptist Church Cemetery. A walk through viewing will be on Tuesday May 12, 2020 from 2:00pm until 6:00pm in the Chapel of Charles Edwards Funeral Home.

Obituary Preview: We, the staff and management of Charles Edwards Funeral Home mourn with the Carmon Family in the loss of their loved one, Mrs. Pennie Lee Bullock Carmon of Snow Hill NC who transitioned on Friday May 1, 2020 at her residence.
Pennie Lee Bullock Carmon was born on February 19, 1926 in Greene County to the late Connie and Clara Belcher Bullock.
Pennie departed this life on Friday morning, May 1, 2020. "God knew you were tired and had faced so many struggles."  For a decade and a half, she was missing the love of her heart, so God granted her, her heart's desire.  God saw that she was tired and was ready to enter into her eternal home, without a fight.  Pennie answered her Father's call and received her Heavenly Reward. Pennie attended Greene County Public Schools.  She was a member of Patrick Chapel Free Will Baptist Church, where she served on the Usher Board for many years.  Later on, she was ordained as a Mother, of the church, until her health began to fail. In her early years, she was a member of The Household of Ruth Organization and Albritton Community Club. Pennie was united in Holy Matrimony to Joseph Clarence Carmon, for sixty years and to this union, ten children were born.  She worked many years as a housekeeper and worked on the farm. She was later employed at  a vegetable processing plant in Wilson, NC and, AC Monk Tobacco processing plant in Farmville, NC, for many years, until her she retired due to health reasons.  She was a quiet person with a big smile, but when she had something to say she would definitely speak up.  She was one who would help you in any way that she could.  She was a good wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, cousin, and friend.  To her children and grandchildren she was known as "Suk" and "Pensie."
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Clarence Carmon (Joe Cool) in 2004; three sons: Clarence Carmon, Jr.(Bay) in 1992, William Earl Carmon(Oral) in 1976, and Orange Ray Carmon in 2018; and granddaughter, Tammy LaShone Carmon in 2001.
Pennie leaves a legacy of love to three sons: Ben Franklin Carmon (Beverly) of Snow Hill, NC, Zeebedee Carmon (Yvette) of Avon , Indiana, and Robert Lee Carmon (LaVern) of Washington, DC; Four daughters: Clara Carmon Mumford (Clifton), Terry Hall (Eddie), Peggy Carmon Edwards, and Alice Carmon Barfield all of Snow Hill, NC; A special grandson, Sylvester Carmon , who waited patiently on his grandmother; One daughter in law, Irene Carmon of Walstonburg, NC; 28 grandchildren, 55 great grandchildren, 12 great, great grandchildren, and other relatives and friends.

Locust of 2294 Slate Lane, Greenville NC who transitioned on Tuesday April 21, 2020.  He was born on January 28,1956 in Pitt Co, N.C. to the late Eugene Locust and Louise Moore Locust.
He attented Pitt County Schools and was a Self Employed Tax Preparer.
He was the Pastor of Church of God of Israel Church and a member of Gospel Unlimited Ministry Inc. of Fountain, N.C.
Pastor Locust is survived by his wife Shirley Powell Locust of the home.  Two sisters, Barbara Godley of Grifton, N.C. and Mary Harris of Ayden, N.C. and other relatives and friends.
Homegoing Celebration with Graveside Services will be held Wednesday April 29, 2020 at 2:00 pm at Homestead Memorial Gardens, Greenville, N.C. with Bishop Gracie Tyson Officiating. A walk through Viewing will be held on Tuesday April 28, 2020  from 2-7pm at Charles Edwards Funeral Home, Ayden.

Mike Best, Jr. and The Best Family in the passing of his great uncle and their loved one, Mr. Farro Best, Jr. of 2347 Brock Ave, Winterville NC who transitioned on Saturday March 28, 2020.
Mr. Best was born on January 22, 1945 to the late Farro, Sr. and Gladys Oliver Best in Pitt County NC, He attended Henry Abbott Technical School. In 1962, Mr. Best joined the Army were he served two years. He was employed by J.H. Hudson for 20 years and later employed by Apac Construction until his health begin to decline. Mr. Best retired from Apac Constructuion as a cement finisher.
Mr. Best Joined Free Spirit Holiness Church under the leadership of Pastor Frank Connor where he served as a steward.
In addition to his parents Mr. Best is preceded in death by one sister, Shirley Best Hawkins; Two brothers, Johnnie Lee "Bob" Best and Jimmie Lee Best.
Mr. Best Is survived by his loving and devoted wife; Mrs. Mancy Jackson Best of the home; One Step-Son; Octavius Barfield of Winterville NC, Two Step-Daughters, Rev. Kimley Harris (Bobby), and Tammy Barfield both of Greenville, NC. 12 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; One sister, Vergie Marie Best of Winterville, NC; Five brothers-in-law and Eight sisters-in-law; A Devoted Niece, Katie Best Taylor affectionally known as "Nugie" of Greenville NC and a devoted grandson; Damarion Clemons along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Sheila Powell - February 08, 1956 - January 27, 2020

Obituary Preview: We, the staff and management of Charles Edwards Funeral Home mourn with the Powell Family in the loss of their loved one, Ms. Sheila Watkins Powell.
Sheila Kay Watkins Powell was born in Carbondale, Illinois, on February 8, 1956, to the late Henry Watkins. Sr. and Betty Boyd.  She departed this earthly life on Monday, January 27, 2020, at Franklin Hospital, in Benton, IL.   In addition to her parents, Sheila was predeceased by two brothers, Henry Watkins, Jr. and Malcolm “Moo” Watkins.
Sheila was married to Benjamin Franklin Powell.  Together, they are the parents of three children.
Sheila attended Carbondale High School, and upon graduating, she enlisted in the United States Army where she reached the rank of Sergeant.  She was honorably discharged after 10 years of faithful service to our Country.   Upon completion of her military career, she began work at Moen Inc. in Kinston, NC where she worked for over 15 years.  While working full time at Moen, and rearing three children, Sheila went back to school at Lenoir Community College and obtained an Associate Degree in Accounting.
Sheila’s hobbies were crossword puzzles, cooking, and spending quality time with her family and friends.  She especially adored her children and grandchildren.  Sheila was loved by many, and will be remembered for her kind, compassionate heart.   Sheila had a zeal for life, and a witty, jovial spirit, that will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
She leaves to cherish her memories, her husband, Benjamin Franklin Powell of Selma, NC; her children, Jamie Christine Watkins Brown (Antwan) of  California, MD,  Anthony Tyrone Powell (Kim) of Greenville, NC, and Shalisa Denise Powell of Pink Hill, NC; brothers, Bruce Watkins (Kathy) of Benton, IL, and Bryan Watkins (Cassie) of Jacksonville, FL; sisters, Kathy Worley (James) of Bakersfield, CA, and Karen Upchurch (Ralph) of Benton, IL; fourteen grandchildren, Khari, Jamecia “Jam”, Kendrick, Layla, Ariana, Seth, Elias, Iya, Madison, Xavier “Tank”, Kalil “Daddy”, Kaliya “Juicy”, Caitlin, and Calin; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and special friends.
Funeral services will be Monday February 3, 2020 at 3:00pm in Hull Road FWB Church, 2660 Hwy 258 North, Kinston NC with Pastor Wandra Williams, Officiating. There will be no burial.

Verlinda Jones - November 10, 1953 - January 11, 2020

Obituary Preview: We, the staff and management of Charles Edwards Funeral Home mourn with the Jones Family in the loss of their loved one, Ms. Verlinda Jones of Greenville NC who died Saturday January 11, 2020 at Vidant Inpatient Hospice.
Verlinda Jones was born on November 10, 1953, in Brooklyn, New York to Randolph Jones Sr. (deceased) and Rosa Mae Jones (deceased). She was raised in Brooklyn, New York however, moved to Roosevelt, Long Island where she lived for eleven years before retiring. After retiring in 2009, she moved to Greenville, North Carolina. Verlinda passed peacefully from this world into the hands of God on January 11, 2020.
Verlinda married Harvey Lee Davis in May of 1983. To this union was born her pride and joy, Christopher Davis.
Verlinda graduated with honors from Oneonta State University in 1976 with a Bachelor in Elementary Education. She was awarded a Fellowship to attend Boston University where she pursued and earned a Master of Science in Special Education in January of 1978. Verlinda also completed an advanced degree in Administration and Supervision from Long Island University in New York. For thirty-one years she worked for the Department of Education in New York City as a devoted Special Education teacher for twenty-two years, and a dedicated Assistant Principal for nine years.
Verlinda accepted Jesus as her personal savior at an early age. She was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church of Brownsville under the leadership of Pastors R.D. Dixon, T. Franklin Strange, and Bishop A.D. Lyons, of whom all are deceased. As a member of First Baptist, she sang in the choir, taught Sunday school and was Sunday school superintendent. After moving to Long Island, New York Verlinda joined Second Baptist church under the leadership of Pastor Preston H. Drinks. As a member of Second Baptist, Verlinda was the Assistant Sunday School Superintendent and served as a prayer leader for the Pastor’s Aide Ministry. In 2009, Verlinda joined Koinonia Christian Center Church in Greenville, North Carolina under the leadership of Bishop Rosie S. O’neal. After joining Koinonia, Verlinda volunteered at the Hospice Inpatient Center, mentored a middle school student, and participated in various activities in the church, such as Feed the Hungry.
Verlinda was proceeded in death by her father, Randolph Jones, Sr., brother, Randolph Jones Jr, and mother, Rosa Mae Jones.
Verlinda leaves to celebrate her life and cherish her memories her son, Christopher Davis; two sisters, Yolanda Jones and Susan Gray; two nephews, Lamar Tyson Jones and Marquise Jarran Jones (spouse, Sabrina); niece, Nyrobi Jones; sister-in-law, Janice Ware-Jones; brother-in-law, Jessie Gray; three aunts, Geneva Delaine, Alfreda Fonville and Sarah Brown; and two uncles, Charlie Brown and James Fonville; a host of cousins, extended family members and friends.
Family is not always blood. A special thanks to her neighbors, especially Darlynn Sakowski and family; special thanks to her sister/brother-friends, Milanie Spearman, Sharon Hall and Jesse Brooks.
The Celebration of Life service will be Thursday January 16, 2020 at 12:00 noon from The Koinonia Christian Center Church, 1405 SW Greenville Blvd with Bishop Rosie S. O'Neal officiating. The viewing will be held from 11:00am until the hour of the service. *This will be the LAST viewing prior to the service. Entombment will take place on Saturday January 18, 2020 at Pinelawn Memorial Park in Farmingdale NY

Ms. Harris was born January 2, 1980 in Pitt County NC to Donell Harris and the late Shelly Foreman. She attended the Greene County Schools. She was also employed as a pharmacy technician.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband; Deacon James Burney and her sister; Phyllis Dixon.

Obituary Preview: Mr. Isaiah Moore known to many as “Stump” was born December 2, 1947 in Craven County, to the late Isaiah Moore and Vera Smith Moore. He departed this earthly life peacefully at home on August 8, 2019
Isaiah was raised in Craven County where he attended the area schools. He later moved to Pitt County and had a great love for driving trucks. He drove trucks for Worthington Farms and Pitt County Transportation in Farmville, NC for many years. Through faith and determination, he started his own trucking business, Moore Boys Trucking.
Isaiah was introduced to the Lord at an early age. He had a great love for music and singing. Early in life, he traveled and sung occasionally with his brother’s gospel group, The Golden Doves. In 2006, he became a member of the ministry at Cherry lane FWB Church. He was later ordained as a deacon at Cherry Lane FWB Church on May 22, 2011.
Isaiah was preceded in death by his parents, Isaiah and Vera Moore, his son, Donnell Moore and two brothers, Howard Lee Moore and Hubert Lee Moore.

Deacon Cobb was born on May 14, 1934 in Edgecombe County to the late Turner and Haley Vines Cobb. He attended and graduated from GW Carver Elementary School. In 1958 he married the love of his life, Mamie Ruth Bullock and to this union 5 children were born. He worked as a welder with Long Manufacture in Tarboro for a number of years. He retired from Collins and Aikman in Farmville. Being a committed and caring person he was a bus driver, Boy Scout leader, farmer who attended his own crop, bail bondsman, and also a former member of Banner Cry Masonic Lodge 625 where he was a Past Master.
Deacon Cobb’s journey with Crisp Chapel United American Free Will Baptist Church began May 5, 1955. His positions included Sunday School Superintendent, Chairman of Deacon Board, Male Chorus, Church Treasurer, Union Treasurer, and Conference Treasurer.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Mother Mamie Ruth Cobb of the Home. Three sons, Milton Cobb of Raleigh NC, Hilton Norris Cobb (Jacqueline) of Upper Marlboro, MD and Kevin Cobb of Newark, NJ. Two daughters, Wyvonnie Pauling (Christopher) of Charlotte NC and Lorie Cobb Leonard of Charlotte NC. Three sisters, Lillian Grace Williams of Tarboro NC, Dorothy Dickens of Fountain MC and Addie Pugh of Pinetops NC. Three aunts, Mary Jane Suggs and Shirley Nesmith both of Richmond VA and Mary Lee Vines of Greenville NC. Twelve Grandchildren, Tiffany Pauling, Christopher Pauling, Christian Pauling, Corbin Pauling, Erica Dupree, To’Brent Cobb- Leonard, Ty’Breon Cobb-Leonard, Shikithia Jenkins, Brittany Cobb, Adrienne Cobb, Bridget Dancy and Tiffany Artis. We, the staff and management of Charles Edwards Funeral Home mourn with the Blow Family in the lost of their loved one, Mr. David A. Blow affectionately known as “Bud” of Greenville NC. “Bud” was born October 4, 1940 to the late Grover Blow and Martha Langley Staton in Pitt County NC. He attended the local schools and was a agriculture farmer. He was also a former employee of Singer Furniture Company in Chocowinity NC. In his spiritual journey he was a member of Olive Branch Primitive Baptist Church under the leadership of Elder Taylor. He was fondly known for one of his favorite sayings: “I GOT ONE MORE THING TO SAY”
In 1960, “Bud” married Gloria Jean Warren and from this union came six daughters and one son.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Mary Pittman, one brother, Isaiah Blow. Two grandchildren, Derrick Blow and Rodney Warren and one great grandchild, Jalen Blow.
Loved ones left to cherish “Bud” are: His wife, Gloria Warren-Blow of Greenville NC. One son, Adaryll Blow of Stockbridge, GA.
