Obituary Preview: Marcia Ann (LaPrad) Dyer passed away peacefully at her home in Falmouth at the age of 81 after a brief hospitalization. She died on Sunday, February 4, which was her mother, Mary’s, birthday. She was surrounded by her family who were honored to reciprocate the nurturing and loving care she tirelessly provided to them for decades; they shared stories, laughter, and music while gently shepherding her toward her forever spiritual home where she is now reunited with her parents and her beloved sister, Gail.
Born on September 28, 1942, in Worcester, to Peter and Mary (Peltier) LaPrad, Marcia was raised in Auburn, Mass., and became a nurse after she graduated high school. Some of her signature offerings such as her famous grilled cheese sandwiches, potato salad, blueberry muffins and banana bread left lasting impressions on all who savored them. She was a second mother to many, selfless, kind-hearted, nurturing, an extreme rule follower, a do-gooder, overly polite, always early, and never one to overstay a welcome. Her anecdotes always brought side splitting laughter.
Marcia is survived by her husband, Wilbur (Bill) Dyer of Falmouth, her three daughters Kimberly LeBoeuf, Erin Antonellis, both of Falmouth, and Elizabeth Maguire of Boston, sons–in-law, Christopher Antonellis and Gregory Maguire, and her 5 beautiful grandchildren, Chloe, Isabelle, Joseph, Beatrix, and Paul, as well as her brother, Martin LaPrad of Warren, her step-mother, Jeannette LaPrad of Auburn, and many cherished nieces and nephews, and cousins. While Marcia loved flowers and deserves an entire field of lilacs, the family kindly requests instead to make any donations in her name to American Heart Association. This is a fitting tribute to a woman whose heart was immeasurably large and compassionate.

Obituary Preview: Peter Hall Partridge of West Falmouth, MA passed away peacefully, with family by his side on January 5, 2024. He was pre-deceased by his wife, Gretchen VH Partridge (1936-2022).
Peter was raised in Brookline, MA and spent his summers in Cataumet, MA. He attended The Park School, Dexter School, and then graduated from Noble & Greenough School. He earned his undergraduate degree at Harvard College where he was a member of the Owl Club, ROTC, played hockey, and found theatre and photography to be new interests.
After his graduation from Harvard, Mr. Partridge and Ms. vanHouten were wed on June 18, 1958, just days before they left for the US Territory of Guam, where Peter would be stationed with the United States Navy. They welcomed their first child while living on Guam. On the historic day, January 23, 1960, Peter was the Officer-on-the-Bridge aboard the USS Lewis (DE-535), a Naval escort vessel, for the historic research dive made by the submersible Trieste to the ocean’s deepest depth, Mariana Trench. It was an experience he was most proud of.
Following an honorable discharge from the Navy, Peter and his wife raised three children in Wellesley, and then Sherborn. Peter performed on stage with The Sherborn Players community theatre group, was a deacon at Pilgrim Church, and contributed to many other fundraising and community efforts. He and his wife also had a home in Jackson, NH where they were avid members of The Wildcat Ski Club. They enjoyed being in the White Mountains. Skiing Tuckerman Ravine was an annual family tradition.
Peter was an investment broker in Boston where he managed several firms throughout his career in the city. After moving to Falmouth in 1998, Peter eventually settled into retirement. He went on to enjoying more time on the water, avidly photographing his natural surroundings, and was an active member of the Upper Cape Camera Club. He continued to support community theatre and eventually found a new vocation that complimented his great love for recreational boating. Until his passing, Peter enjoyed his role at Points East Magazine selling advertising and maintaining his lifelong connection to the boatyards and marine businesses he was always thrilled to visit.
Peter gave generously of his time volunteering in Woods Hole at the WHOI visitor center and to community efforts such as Recovery Without Walls. He was actively involved with the Cape Cod Curling Club, the West Falmouth Boat Club, and the First Congregational Church where he was a former deacon and a frequent reader, continuing to do so as recently as this past Christmas Eve.
Peter’s two great passions were his award winning photography and teaching his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren about boats, navigation, and the ways of the ocean. His sailing experience ranged from childhood Beetle Cat and Herreschoff adventures on Buzzards Bay, to offshore racing to Bermuda, Block Island, Monhegan, and Halifax. He and his wife also enjoyed sailing in Newfoundland, Alaska, Maine, and throughout the Caribbean Islands. During the 1970’s Peter served as a Commodore at Buzzards Yacht Club and later was an active member of Chapoquoit Yacht Club, where he generously offered his time and his boat to help run countless sailboat races.

Heald, his children Ellen H (Glen) Pulsford, Lisa P Ramsbottom, and Andrew B (Haley) Partridge, grandchildren Spencer, Taylor, Nathaniel, Melissa, Siena, Jasper, Hazel, and great-grandchildren Samuel and Wyatt. Clifton Nathaniel Sawyer - September 12, 1938 - November 21, 2023

Departed: 11/21/2023 (West Falmouth)
Obituary Preview: Clifton Nathaniel Sawyer, age 85, of Pocasset, MA. passed on to his eternal resting place on Tuesday, November 21, 2023 after a few months of extended health issues. He was born in Canton, MA., but resided most of his adult life in Stoughton, MA. where he enjoyed and took great pride in his Simpson Street home and community. He left this earth with a deep love for his wife of 62 years, Vivian Bruce Sawyer, as well as his 4 daughters and their husbands and families, dear friends, and caretakers. As his life changed and evolved, he always continued to find joy, gratefulness, and comfort in every day of his life and was able to spend his golden years in his favorite spot in his home, enjoying views of the outdoors he so loved.
As Clify, Dad, or Bumpa, this man could not have held more pride, care and concern for his family and friends. He embodied an incredible work ethic that was like very few. As a young man, he attended and graduated from Boston Trade School, and then served his country in the Army with great pride from March of 1956-June 1959 where he was a heavy equipment operator and enjoyed acting as company clerk in posts in New Orleans and France. He began work after the service following in the footsteps of his father, Nathaniel Sawyer, and continued a lifelong career as a design Machinist at Gill Machine Company in Stoughton for 46 years.
He was a talented, creative, and artistic man, who could make, build, design or repair absolutely anything anyone could conceive of or need. He could always be found in his yard landscaping, working in his huge fruit and vegetable gardens, or in his extensive home workshop, building, organizing, and creating. He was intelligent, and very giving of his time to help any neighbor, friend, or family member in need.
While raising his family, he also hosted and ran rocket clubs, train clubs and built an annual ice-skating rink to bring all of the neighboring youths together. He was a great teacher and enjoyed mentoring and sharing his talents. He was known for his incredible model train layouts and was an avid collector of all things: trains, coins, stamps and marbles.
However, Clif’s very best achievement was that of a family man. There was nothing he loved more in his final years than visits from his growing family. He is survived by his four daughters, Pamela, and her husband Tom DeNapoli of Bourne, Penny and her husband Dan Lessa of Bourne, Holly and her husband Bob Gorham of Carver, and his youngest daughter Jenniefer of Norton. He was a wonderful “Bumpa”to his 4 grandchildren, Johanna and her husband Richard Eicher of Norwell, Jacquelyn and her husband Antonio Spinelli of Franklin, Alexi Navarro of Falmouth, and Michael Sawyer of Norton. He was a loving great-grandfather to his 5 great grandchildren, Everly, Isabelle and Richard III Eicher, as well as Antonio and Carmela Spinelli.
He was a very caring and loving son to his deceased mother Audrey Foster, and his short 13 years with his deceased father Nathaniel Sawyer who he loved so dearly. He is also survived by his wonderful older sister Audrey Olsen and her husband Paul Olsen and family of Brockton.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, November 29 from 11AM-12:30PM at Chapman Funerals & Cremations, 584 West Falmouth Hwy. (Rt. 28A) West Falmouth, MA. Funeral Service will be held at 12:30PM. An obituary is a written notice that announces the death of a person, typically including their name, age, date of birth and death, and a brief biography. Why are obituaries important?

Obituaries serve as a way to honor and remember the deceased, while also providing important information to those who knew them. They can help notify people of the passing, share details about the funeral or memorial service, and offer a sense of closure for those grieving.

Who writes an obituary?

Typically, the family of the deceased or a close friend writes the obituary. Funeral homes or obituary writers may also assist with writing and publishing the obituary.

What information should be included in an obituary?

A typical obituary includes the person's full name, age, date of birth and death, place of residence, occupation, education, hobbies, achievements, and surviving family members. It may also include information about the funeral or memorial service, charitable donations in lieu of flowers, and other relevant details.

How long should an obituary be?

The length of an obituary can vary, but it's generally recommended to keep it concise and focused on the most important information. Aim for 1-2 paragraphs at most.

Can I include photos in an obituary?

Yes, many online obituary platforms and newspapers allow you to include one or more photos with the obituary. This can be a nice way to personalize the tribute and make it more engaging.

How do I submit an obituary to a newspaper?
