Robert L. Ringuette - March 03, 1940 - April 15, 2024

Departed: 04/15/2024 (Bridgewater)
Obituary Preview: Robert Leo Ringuette (March 3, 1940 – April 15, 2024) – Bob Ringuette of East Bridgewater passed away on Patriot’s Day after a brief illness, surrounded by loved ones. He was 84.
The loving husband of (and always “Robert” to) Sally Ann Smith Ringuette, Bob was the son of the late Emilia Ouellette (Ringuette) Dwyer and stepson to Irvin Dwyer.
Born and raised in Fall River, Bob joined the U.S. Navy in 1959 and became part of the flight crew on a VP-7 (Patrol Squadron SEVEN), where he formed friendships that lasted a lifetime. After receiving a Navy Good Conduct Medal and an Honorable discharge, Bob graduated from Fitchburg College and later the Harvard University Graduate School of Education. He spent more than 35 years working as a Guidance Counselor at Canton High School (1966-2001).
Mr. Ringuette (Ringo to his team and some bolder students) approached his tenure at Canton High School with his signature mix of wit, candor and a refusal to take the easy road. Not one for encouraging pipe dreams nor sugarcoating the truth, Bob preferred to challenge his students, athletes and offspring to push their limits. This might explain his 14 years coaching the Lady Bulldogs, the girls’ varsity soccer team not known for its natural talents. It also helps one understand the earring he sported for years after losing a bet against the team.
When he retired, the Canton High School yearbook honored Ringo, noting that while the Lady Bulldogs might have lacked natural talent, they consistently demonstrated leadership, character, sportsmanship, and unrelenting will power. “It's been said before that a team's record does not necessarily reflect their success; it's not whether you win or lose, but how you play the game.” Bob's legacy at Canton High was marked not just by a pierced ear, but by the countless students who found their way – and the way they found it - thanks to his relentless honesty and coaching.
In his retirement, Bob most enjoyed traveling and spending time with Sally. He could often be found playing golf, reading books, completing the New York Times crossword puzzle, or goofing around with his grandchildren.
Throughout it all, Bob loved the game of soccer. A player and team captain in college, he brought his passion to his community, his school and his family, serving as coach, referee, scheduler, the Secretary/Treasurer and later President of the Eastern Massachusetts Soccer Officials Association (EMSOA) for many years. He could also be very vocal on the sidelines, attending hundreds of games where his four children played (some more impressively than others.) Later in life, he became a board member of the Council on Aging in East Bridgewater.
He is survived by his wife Sally and his four children; Scott J. Ringuette and his wife Yvette of East Bridgewater, Michelle A. Ringuette and her husband David Price of Washington DC, Erik M. Ringuette and his wife Robin of Bridgewater, and Robert D.A. Ringuette and his wife Amy of Attleboro. Proud “Grampa” of Scott M. Ringuette and his wife Sarah, John S. Ringuette, Justin M. Ringuette, Allie L.A. Ringuette, Eamon D. Price, Owen W. R. Ringuette, and Madelyn E. Ringuette. Loving cousin of Mary Jane Golden of Dartmouth and Anne Ouellette of Mansfield. He was predeceased by his first wife, Bernardine Brennan Ringuette.
Bob devoted his life to taking care of his family, his students, and anyone on his team. He will be dearly missed.
All are cordially invited to a wake on Sunday April 21, at the Chapman Funerals and Cremations, 35 Spring St. EAST BRIDGEWATER from 1-4. A Funeral Program will begin at 3pm. Burial will be private.

Ann M. Coates - August 27, 1975 - April 08, 2024

Departed: 04/08/2024 (Bridgewater)
Obituary Preview: Ann Margaret Fischer Coates passed away peacefully on April 8, 2024, at the age of 48. She was the devoted wife of Scott Coates, Mom to Andrew and Sophie, devoted daughter to Steven and Nancy (Cappadona) Fischer and loving sister to Ken Fischer and Amanda Connolly.
She grew up in Canton where she graduated from Canton High School and played varsity field hockey. She was a prolific reader who continued her education at Stonehill College, later earning herself a master’s degree at Cambridge College. After graduating from Stonehill, she was excited to have been hired by Hanover School District where she became a teacher on the high school staff. She remained there for 27 years becoming a well-respected AP Psychology instructor and yearbook advisor.
Her reliability, fairness, and reputation for her organizational skills earned her an appointment as History Department Chair. Perhaps she was most proud to have been a co-founder of the Mentor Program where she was able to pass on her skills to new teachers coming into the education field. Additionally, her colleagues voted her Union President to the Hanover Teachers Association for three years running. In this role she earned a reputation as a tough, no-nonsense negotiator, tirelessly working to secure the best possible contract terms for her colleagues.
More importantly, the hallmark of Ann’s life was her devotion to family. Despite facing unimaginable medical challenges, Ann never put herself before her children, husband, her Hanover High School District Family, or her East Bridgewater Viking Family. She always found the time to help and support them all.
In the early 2000’s Ann met the love of her life, Scott Coates. They would marry on July 8, 2006, settling in East Bridgewater. Ann reveled in being a wife and mother. She embraced each of her children’s activities.
With daughter Sophie, she was a proud music parent and constant supporter and volunteer at her concerts and theater productions. Ann was always so proud of Sophie’s achievements and her future dreams. With Andrew, she found great rewards in being on the sidelines cheering him on at his football, baseball, and basketball games. She encouraged him to work hard, and if that hard work did not produce the results Andrew wanted, she told him to pick himself up and “keep at it”. She always encouraged him to put in that extra time at the gym or batting cages.
The theme of “family” would be lost if it was not mentioned about Ann’s commitment to East Bridgewater Football. A family of its own, she was known for her enthusiasm, organizational skills, loud cheering, and knack for making the best balloon displays. She loved her Viking family and watching Andrew and his friends compete.
Ann was also very much part of her Poor Meadow Neighborhood Family and was a proud member of the “Poor Meadow Ladies Book Club”.
Ann and Scott enjoyed traveling and brought the children to Disney World and New Hampshire many times. They also traveled north to visit family in New Brunswick and just last month, March of 2024, she and Scott amazingly traveled to London to sightsee and reconnect. Upon their return, Ann was overheard saying, “how wonderful the trip was and that she fell in love with Scott all over again”.
Ann’s beloved Sophie loved playing “event planner” and getting “Gigi and the girls” together for a show and dinner. Some of their favorite adventures were to Boston, Providence, and New York City to see plays.
Finally, to say Ann was gentle and strong, serious in her craft, and playful in spirit would be an understatement; she will be missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her.
Ann was the devoted wife of Scott R. Coates of East Bridgewater and loving mother of Sophie A. Coates and Andrew S. Coates both of East Bridgewater. Loving daughter of Steven C. Fischer and Nancy (Cappadona) Fischer of N. Attleboro. Sister of Ken B. Fischer and his wife Erin of Marshfield and Amanda L. Connolly and her husband Luke of North Attleboro. “Best Auntie” of William, Alexander, Brody, and Ainsley. Daughter in law of Isabell Coates of Westwood and the late Ronald Coates. Sister in law of Lisa Burrows and her husband Bill of Pembroke, Heather Montalto and her husband Paul of Scituate, and Krista Provenzano of Middleboro. Also survived by many loving relatives and devoted friends.
All are cordially invited to the Chapman Funerals and Cremations, 98 Bedford St. BRIDGEWATER for a wake on Sunday April 14th from 2-6pm. Please note due to the expected large crowd, please consider parking behind Harrington Hall, Grove St. (Bridgewater State University) and walk path to funeral home. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at St. John’s Church, 210 Central St. East Bridgewater on Monday April 15th at 10am. Burial to follow at Central Cemetery.
