Elizabeth A. Jenkins - July 25, 1934 - December 26, 2020

Departed: 12/26/2020 (Grain Valley)
Obituary Preview: Elizabeth (Betty) Ann Jenkins, age 86, passed from this world into the next on Saturday evening, December 26, 2020. Her passing followed her husband Oscar’s death four weeks earlier.
Betty was born on July 25, 1934 in Austin, Minnesota, the third child of Rudy and Lilly Ruechel. She grew up in Kansas City, Missouri with her brother Rudy Jr. and her sister LaVonne. She graduated from Center High School in 1952 where she was a majorette, twirling a baton with the marching band.
Betty met the love of her life, Oscar Jenkins, and they wed on April 24, 1954. Their 66-year marriage was a picture of commitment and devotion. Their worlds revolved around each other. Their life together produced three children: David Smith Jenkins, Susan Kaye Roldan, and Jeanne Marie Miller. After Jeanne’s death, Betty and Oscar raised her two teenaged sons.
Betty’s career with the Grandview School District Central Office grew from her initial commitment to volunteer at the school library where her children attended.
Her real commitment, however, was her family. She devoted herself with whole-hearted abandon to her husband and children, then her grandchildren, and then her great-grandchildren. Years ago, she converted a spare bedroom into “the toy room” to the delight of her grandchildren. Even in her last few days, Betty obsessed over each child, grandchild and great-grandchild getting the Christmas gifts she had lovingly selected over the past few months.
A far second to her family, Betty loved a few other things – shopping and bargains, Bingo, and the Chiefs. She will be remembered for her constant smile, optimism, and giggle.
Though it is difficult to lose someone so loved, it is fitting that she and her husband Oscar are together again.
Betty is preceded in death by her parents, siblings, and daughter Jeanne.
She is survived by her son, Dave (Mary) Jenkins, her daughter, Susan (Marco) Roldan, her seven grandchildren: Mike (Michelle) Miller, Patrick Jenkins, Dante (Courtney) Roldan, Natalia (Kyle) York, Steve (Jan) Miller, Sarah (Chris) Henson, Wyatt (Holly) Roldan; and her ten great grandchildren: Levi Miller, Brynn Miller, Noah Miller, Hattie Miller, Violet Miller, Oscar York, Olive York, Jack Henson, Benton Roldan, and Isla Roldan.
A celebration of both Betty and Oscar’s lives is planned for Springtime, 2021.
