Lawson Tackett Murdock, 21, took his light from our lives on February 20, 2024. Born in Lexington, KY on December 3, 2002, he was the son of Shawn Lawrence Murdock and Shawn Rae Tackett Murdock. Lawson’s gentle and jovial nature endeared him to all he met. His bright, ever-present smile and infectious laugh filled every room and the hearts of his friends and family.

Lawson loved life and pursued many interests during his short time on this earth. Every day was an opportunity to learn more on a wide range of topics. When he took an interest in a sport, hobby, or philosophy, he would go deep, analyzing every aspect and learning every detail. While he was vastly intellectual, he never willfully made others feel ignorant. Instead, he found joy in sharing the depth of his knowledge with those he cared about.

A Ryle High School/Ignite Institute graduate, Lawson was currently studying finance at Northern Kentucky University. Lawson possessed an amazing mind for mathematics, statistics, and analysis. But while Lawson was always thinking, he was also always creating. He loved music and had a particular fondness for the country genre. True to his nature, this interest wasn’t passive. He was a gifted songwriter, a talent that he fostered by analyzing the song structure and writing techniques of his favorite artists. He used songwriting to express his deepest feelings and emotions. He wrote his last song, entitled “When I Go,” the day before his passing.

Lawson was an overcomer. He lived with cerebral palsy, but he refused to be defined or deterred by his disability. On the contrary, he was adamant and exceedingly brave when faced with any anxiety, obstacle or challenge. He was active and athletic from a very young age. His participation in recreational gymnastics initially began as therapy, but over time, Lawson transformed into an ad hoc instructor for younger children in his classes. Lawson began snow skiing at an early age, and it became a lifelong passion. He traveled often with his family to his “second home” in Colorado where he would ski even the most difficult slopes with ease and perfect his jumps on the terrain parks. Whether hiking, biking or hunting “out west,” playing disc golf, or simply taking long, solitary walks around his neighborhood, Lawson felt most at home outdoors. Though he loved exploring new adventures away from home, nothing could compare to the paradise in his own backyard. In addition to home and Colorado, Lawson’s favorite places to be were in Princeton, KY at his paternal grandparents’ home and in Warsaw, KY at his maternal grandparents’ farm.

Lawson enjoyed sports and shared his family’s passion for University of Kentucky basketball and football. He grew up attending home games in Lexington. During his younger years, Lawson looked forward each day to the car ride home from school with his mom. Together, they would listen to Kentucky Sports Radio.

Lawson was a kind soul who loved deeply. He understood that meaningful relationships with friends, family and others required work. He strove to guard and nurture each of those special bonds. He coveted his time with friends and family playing games around the table or online. He was particularly fond of children who were drawn to him by his playful, gentle spirit.

Lawson was a cherished and beloved son to Shawn Lawrence Murdock and Shawn Rae Tackett Murdock; an unconditionally loving brother to Megan (Brandon) Murdock Loschiavo and Maclain Murdock; a treasured cousin to Chelsey (Jeff) Gardner, Andrew Harrington, Janece Harrington, Jackson Murdock, Chandler Murdock, Aiden Tackett, and Hanna Tackett; a dear nephew to Tonya (Greg) Harrington, Shea (Jenny) Murdock, and Owen (Kandice) Tackett; as well as a dear grandson to Barbara and Lloyd Murdock and Brenda Porter Tackett. In addition to these, Lawson’s distinctive laugh and his unforgettable smile will be remembered by his Bedinger’s Landing neighborhood friends and their parents, New Haven Elementary and Gray Middle School family who encouraged and empowered him, his friend group “The Boys” who affectionately called him Law, his Oklahoma family, as well as countless others. Lawson is preceded in death by his grandfather Ronald Ray Tackett; his Aunt Jan Cloyde; Uncle Larry Bradshaw; Aunt Linville Murdock; close family friend and childhood caregiver Ginny Hamilton; and his precious cat, Sly.

Friends and family will gather to share memories, find solace in one another's company, and honor the legacy Lawson leaves behind. A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, April 7, 2024 beginning at 2:00 PM at The Prickel Barn, 14112 Walton-Verona Rd, Verona, KY 41092, with a reception to follow directly after the service of remembrance.

Obituary Preview: Arva Mae Leming passed away peacefully on Monday, October 21, 2019 at St. Elizabeth Hospice in Edgewood, KY. She was born in Pendleton County, KY on October 11, 1948 to the late Paul and Dorothy Ireland. Arva spent most of her life as a homemaker and enjoyed working in her garden. She was a big fan of Simon Kenton football, cheerleading, and band. In her spare time, she liked attending auctions, craft fairs, and festivals, but most of all she loved to spend time with her family, especially her beloved grandchildren.

Arva is preceded in death by her husband, Marcus Samuel Leming, Jr. Survived to mourn her loss and cherish her memory are her sons, Paul (Terry) Leming and Mike (Rachel Taylor) Leming; brother, Paul Hendricks (Barbara) Ireland; grandchildren, Benjamin Robert Leming, Cassandra Marie Leming, Samantha Faith Leming, and Nicholas Allen Leming, as well as many other friends and relatives.

Ruth was preceded in death by her husbands, Wallace Roland “Buster” Glenn and Maynard Meadows; brothers, Dennis Glacken, Garnal Glacken, and Howard Glacken; son, Pat Glenn, and Stepson Mark Meadows. A wonderful and loving grandpa to Julie and Nicole Vetter, AJ Wodraska (Racheal), Austin Wodraska (Kalen), Carl “CJ” Day (Tiffany Webster), Tori Day, Elizabeth Baker, Makenzie Eberhart, and Gracie Ryan.

Bill was born in Enochsburg, IN on Halloween, October 31st, 1940 to Norbert and Frances (Kappes) Gauck. He is survived by two brothers, Norbert Gauck and Robert Gauck, both of Kentucky and one sister, Shirley Gauck of Indiana. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Jerome “Jiggs” Gauck and John Gauck.

Bill was an invaluable employee of Barkleys, Pleasant Electric, Cincinnati Electric, and finally Conrail. He was an excellent electrician whose talent was amazing in that he could fix most anything in that field.

He enjoyed time with his family and especially his many grandkids. He enjoyed rabbit hunting with various family members, tending to his farm and animals, and tinkering with various projects that people would come to him for help.

Bill never knew a stranger and was always willing to help anyone in need. There was never a question that he couldn’t answer or a problem he couldn’t solve.

We will be celebrating the life of Bill with a visitation, mass and Christian burial at St. Cecilia Church, located at 5313 Madison Pike, Independence, KY 41051, on Tuesday, October 22, 2019 from 10 a.m. to 12 noon with the mass beginning at noon.

He had a great love for animals and his greatest passion came from being a hobby farmer where he enjoyed raising cattle.

Earl was preceded in death by his parents and his first wife, Barbara A. Eastwood. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 24 years, Barbara J. Eastwood; caring children, David (fiancé Kimberly Burns) Eastwood, Christy Eastwood and Julie (Bryan) Ketron; siblings, John Eastwood and Robert Eastwood; grandson, Zachary Eastwood; as well as many other relatives and friends who will mourn his passing and continue to carry on his memory.

Obituary Preview: Miley Sue “Ma Sue” Bird Van Horn was born on her fourth-generation family farm in Atwood, Kentucky on January 20, 1930. She entered Heaven’s gates on October 7, 2019, with her family by her side.

Ma Sue was a devoted mother and grandmother, who never missed a gathering. An avid lover of Scrabble, peanut butter/chocolate ice cream, and Navy reunions, she would regularly invite her loved ones to enjoy all three with her. Over the years, she collected tea cups, books, and a menagerie of animals. She had a tremendous softness for her beloved farmland and the animals who inhabited it. She loved to watch QVC for the next big deal and rooted on her alma mater, the University of Kentucky Wildcats with passion. We were blessed to learn several valuable lessons from her over the years: Never throw away milk jugs, canning jars, or bread bags. Love your children and grandchildren unconditionally with a sprinkle of frankness. One can never have too many cats.

Ma Sue had an unwavering faith in God, and was a member of Oak Island Baptist Church. Her commitment to the church, and community, spanned decades through her involvement in Vacation Bible School and as the Church Secretary.

Sue was predeceased by her loving husband, Warren L. Van Horn, her grandson, Mark “Allen” Van Horn, and daughter-in-law and best friend, Myrna Joy Van Horn. She is survived by her sons Robert (Debbie) Van Horn and Mark (Edie) Van Horn, grandchildren, Amy (Chris Schwab) Van Horn, Susan Armstrong, Mark (Jodi) Vargas, Sami McCarthy, Michael Breeze, Jason Gibson, and 14 great grandchildren.

Obituary Preview: Stephen Dell Clark, age 73, of Independence, KY, passed away on Saturday, October 5, 2019 at Bridge Point Nursing Facility. Stephen was born the son of the late Mack Leroy and Elouise (Thomas) on February 18, 1946 in Glen Ferris, WV.

Stephen was a West Virginia Institute of Technology graduate who owned his own business as a self-employed whole sale meat and produce salesmen. He was known for loving people, always making them laugh and always had a joke to tell or a memory to share. He also enjoyed vacations to Myrtle Beach every year with his family and grandchildren whom he adored. Stephen was also a coach, having coached his son in baseball and loved attending his grandkid’s sporting events.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his step-sons, Tony and Tim Whittamore; and sisters, Kathleen Cook and Dorothy Pring.

Stephen is survived by his wife of 43 years, Sue (Eickhoff) Clark; son, Stephen Shane Clark (Katie); grandchildren, Madelyn and Mason Clark, Johnny, Julie, and Zachary Whittamore; brother, Dan Clark (Esther); and many family friends.

A graduate (1969) of Simon Kenton High School, Jerry also enjoyed sports, especially playing golf and he formerly coached in the Boone County Pee Wee Football League and Boone County Knothole Baseball League and refereed for Upward basketball & football at Hickory Grove. Another passion of Jerry’s was riding on his Harleys. Over the years, he had ridden in all 48 lower states in the U.S. Jerry treasured his family, especially his loving wife (of 51 years), Cynthia Lou Adams Harris. Other survivors include his beloved children, Diane Wilson (Charlie) and Steve Harris (Missy); mother, Dorothy Lee Plunkett Harris; siblings, Larry Harris (Gwen), Patricia Bach (Ken), and Judy Dominic (Dave); grandchildren, Samantha Patterson (Brice), Andrew Harris (Megan), Chase Wilson, Jantzen Harris, Aidan Harris, and Grayson Harris; and one great grandchild, Charlie Reece Patterson. She was a very talented seamstress which aided her in making many things from beautiful prom dresses to fabulous Halloween costumes for her grandchildren. She also had great organizational and party planning skills. Other than sewing, she enjoyed making crafts, reading, and spending time with her family.

Janet was preceded in death by her parents, Edward & Loretta Foltz, and siblings Donald Foltz, Virginia Hall, and Edward “Eddie” Foltz. She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Robert Blackburn, and children Robert (Donna) Blackburn, Stuart Blackburn, Paula Blackburn, Sheila (Tim) Webb, and Jennifer (Tom) Anderson.
